Welcome to the official "Friday the 13th" topic for those of you who don't know this horror movie series, it's the one with Jason Voorhees (The guy who wears the hockey mask) as the killer, however in the first movie the killer was
Spoiler: click to toggle
and in the fifth one the killer was
Spoiler: click to toggle

Anyway, here's the series in order:

Friday the 13th (1980)

Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981)

Friday the 13th Part 3 (1982)

Friday the 13th Part 4: The Final Chapter (1984)

Friday the 13th Part 5: A New Beginning (1985)

Friday the 13th Part 6: Jason Lives (1986)

Friday the 13th Part 7: The New Blood (1988)

Friday the 13th Part 8: Jason Takes Manhattan (1989)

Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday (1993)

Jason X (2001)

Freddy vs Jason (2003, crossover movie with the A Nightmare On Elm Street series)

Friday The 13th remake (2009)

I found out about the Friday The 13th series when I watched Freddy vs Jason and while I like Freddy Krueger more, I think Jason is still a great horror character. JasonV

I'll say that I am and have been a huge Friday fan since I was a kid.
Yes, they get a little (forgive the unintended pun) campy now and again, but it is a great series.

I'm really not a fan of all the remake craze going on, so I'm not all that happy about this one especially.
I would have preferred another sequel, especially given how well Freddy Vs Jason did in the bof office.. I thought for sure that it would have launched a return of both series... (maybe the long awaited prequel to Nightmare).
but that too has been scrapped in favor of a remake.

Since it was mentioned earlier.. my favorite of the Fridays-
1. Part 2- the burlap sack was creepy.. and a good still scary story
2. Friday the 13th - a good twist that it was the cook.. aka Pamela.
3. Psrt 4- The Final Chapter- Savini.. gotta love him
4. Part 6- Jason Lives - a good begining the hulking unstoppable Jason.
5. Jason Goes to Hell- this might could be moved up.. I really like this one a lot.
6. Freddy vs Jason- I was unsure about the "sympathetic" Jason.. but the movie rocked!
7. Part 5- A New Beginning- another good twist- the best way to plan for part 6
8. Jason X- the perfect way to overblow a sequel. Biggest body count in history
9. Part 3- 3-D- better in the theatre than dvd
10. Part 7- The New Blood- Kane did make a really good Jason
11. Part 8- Jason Takes Manhattan - I try and I try.. it just made no sense.

and this list changes day to day with the exception of Part 8. I went more than a decade before I scraped enough interest to watch it again. And then I remembered why.
Out for kicks and in for Trouble..

Fridays Pts 1-4 are the only ones I really care about. Anything after that is dead to me. The first 4 to me blend more together and are easily, the scareist, suspenseful, and best ones in the series.

I've seen the first four "Friday The 13th" films in their entirety. I have the others on DVD but I haven't watched them yet. I've seen bits of the latter films in this franchise and it looks like the directors of these films were trying to satisfy their own curiosity over how many different ways Jason Voorhees could jack up and butcher his victims...and not on producing a suspenseful and entertaining film. winky

I just found out about the new movie, is this a reboot of the series? Or just a remake of the first film?

Here's my ranking from favorite to least favorite Friday The 13th movies including Freddy vs Jason and I haven't watched the remake in a long time, so it isn't going to appear until I have re-watched it:

Friday the 13th Part 4 - The Final Chapter

Friday the 13th Part 2

Friday the 13th

Friday the 13th Part 5 - A New Beginning

Friday the 13th Part 7 - The New Blood

Jason X

Jason Goes To Hell - The Final Friday

Friday the 13th Part 3

Friday the 13th Part 8 - Jason Takes Manhattan

Why do you have Jason X ranked ahead of Freddy Vs Jason, if you don't mind my asking?

Jason X had more creativity IMO, I do find the idea of sending Jason into space weird and some of the CGI/special effect weak especially for a 2001 movie.

However it did have one excellent creative kill, good musical score, I liked the designs of Jason/Uber Jason as well as the characters and the ending. jasonv

I enjoy these films myself, they're real guilty pleasures. i would rank them:

1. Friday the 13th Part 4:The Final Chapter
2/ Friday the 13th Part 2
3/ Friday the 13th Part 7:The New Blood [I honestly think this may have been the best if they hadn't cut out all the gore!]
4/ Friday the 13th
5/ Friday the 13th Part 8:Jason Takes Manhattan
6/ Friday the 13th Part 5:A New Beginning
7/ Friday the 13th Part 6:Jason Lives
8/ Freddy Vs Jason
9/ Jason x
10/Friday the 13th Part 3
11/Jason Goes to Hell

What did people think of the recent Jason film? I thought it was just about watchable but quite poor really,it didn't feel like a Friday film and during the kills [which were fairly uninventive anyway] you could hardly see what the hell was going on!

I liked it okay. I didn't find it nearly as entertaining as the classic "Friday" films, especially the first three in this movie franchise. As a die hard slasher horror film fan I would recommend any fellow slasher horror movie fan check out the updated "Friday The 13th" film. That said I would also predict that the majority of those watching it would still like the older "Friday" films more.

Here's a Music Video which I made one or two years ago for Zombie Jason Voorhees (Part 6 to Freddy vs Jason), here's the link to it:

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xd3twb_jason-voorhees-music-video_shortfilms

Dailymotion's video player loads slowly, and if you really enjoyed the video I would recommend finding a way to download it onto your computer, since the video might get deleted because of the music I'm using. winky

Anyway, I hope you enjoy it. JasonV

I came across this great article which chronicles the many renderings of Jason Voorhees over the years in the various "Friday The 13th" films. Lots of photos of Jason including one of actor Derek Mears in full "Jason" makeup from the 2008, Marcus Nispel directed remake film called Friday The 13th: http://www.dreadcentral.com/news/49866/happy-friday-13th-many-guises-jason-voorhees

I actually like Jason's look in the 2008 film best although some of the other renderings are quite good as well. thumbz up

While the gentleman quoted in the report seems happy of a blu-ray box set with fan commentaries, you have to think that the other special features Paramount did not pass on are not going to be bought by WB as well. Sorry, I could give less about fan commentaries unless they are among the quality of what we have seen with kaiju films and the Universal Wolf Man dvd.

I guess I should have bought this when I had the chance:
