Indeed. There may not be too many NHL fans at this message board. I follow the Atlanta Thrashers and Dallas Stars. Favorite players: Mike Modano-Dallas Stars Joe Sakic-Colorado Avalanche Looks like the Detroit Red Wings are going to win the Stanley Cup: they're a machine right now. ;) |

I mainly wait until the Stanley Cup playoffs get underway for my interest in hockey to really pick up. Especially if and when the Bruins and Flyers are involved. (and it's not looking too good for the Flyers right now being down 0-2 to the Penguins w/o their best defenseman) |

There are rumblings here in Atlanta that long time Atlanta Thrashers GM Don Waddell will be asked to step down as GM and accept another front office position in the organization by various members of the Thrashers ownership group. I hope so. In nine years Waddell's Thrashers have made the playoffs once, last year, and that was an unmitigated disaster as the Thrashers were swept in four straight games by the NY Rangers. Marian Hossa saw the handwriting on the wall, so to speak, in that he believed this franchise was headed nowhere fast, the reason it's widely believed this talented two way player would not sign an extension to play for the Thrashers, his refusal forcing Waddell to trade Hossa to the Pittsburgh Penguins for two younger, developing players in order to get something back for Hossa now...rather than risk getting nothing back later for Hossa after the winger became an unrestricted free agent. The Atlanta Thrashers started this past season 0-6, which led to coach Bob Hartley's ouster. IMO Don Waddell should also have been shown the door. This guy has been a miserable cheapskate his entire tenure here in Atlanta as the Thrashers GM, a graduate, it would appear, of the Billy Knight School For Ineptitude And Inaction In Personnel Management. <_< |

Yep...the DETROIT RED WINGS pretty much won the Stanley Cup tonight. They beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 4 games to 2. Detroit is still Hockeytown, baby! |

I love hockey.....of course, the two teams I really cheer for, let me down, again! I cheer for the Avalanche first and then the Penguins. In spite of not being the best loser, I will offer my congrats, Dan, because there is no doubt, those Red Wings are awesome.

I'm keenly interested in who will be selected as the next Atlanta Thrashers head coach: candidates include Brad McCrimmon(a former player and a current Thrashers assistant coach), John Anderson, the coach of the Chicago Wolves(The Thrashers affiliate team in the AHL), or Paul Maurice, the former coach in Toronto(and who was fired by the Maple Leafs after the team missed the playoffs for a second consecutive year). |

Monsters AND hockey?? I do believe I have found Heaven. Anyone else following the season? I'm a big Thrashers, Calgary (The Flames.. still pulling for my original team), New Jersey, and Pens fan... among a few others. |

I am. I follow the Atlanta Thrashers(my hometown team) and I'm also a fan of the Dallas Stars and Minnesota Wild. The Thrashers have won three straight but I don't expect this team to make the playoffs this year. In fact, there have been rumors circulating that should the Thrashers miss the playoffs this year this team might be relocated. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman has not denied rumors that another Canadian hockey team is on the horizon(in western Canada). As for predictions it's obviously early but in the Western Conference I like teams like the Detroit Red Wings, San Jose Sharks, Dallas Stars, Minnesota Wild and Anaheim Ducks to be playoff teams and potential Stanley Cup finalists. In the eastern Conference I like the Montreal Canadiens, Carolina Hurricanes, Pittsburgh Penguins, Buffalo Sabres and Boston Bruins to potentially represent this conference in the finals. |

Don't even mention the relocation word.. Its not (I'm using sheer will) gonna happen. I'm hoping that they go with expansion instead of relocating. Las Vegas and Seattle are top contenders, and places in Canada. If we lose the Thrashers.. we'll never get another team. The Flames did really well here.. hopefully the Thrashers will as well. I think Waddell needs relocating. I'm hoping the Thrashers and Anderson are starting to gel.. and will start playing like they have some sense to them. Anderson is a good coach.. (from what I saw of the Wolves).. and if given a real chance.. I think he can turn the Thrashers around. I have been following the Kovy trade rumors lately. Not sure how I feel about that. I tend to watch every game I can, though its difficult when there is 15 games on at once. I'm hoping someone can unseat the Red Wings. I respect the team.. no one plays hockey quite like they do.. but besides the Sabres and the Rangers, Detriot is my least favorite team. I'm with you on the Sharks and the Red Wings in the playoffs.. though I hope Calgary does makes it. I'd like to see the Preds there as well. I like the Stars.. though with Avery being there it makes in really hard to pull for them. If the Pens can hold on until Gonchar and Whitney get back, I think they could take it. Though, I miss Malone being on the team. I'd love to see them make the finals if NJ or the Thrashers can't make it. |

Agreed. I also concur with you about Don Waddell. The Thrashers have been in Atlanta for nine years and have one playoff appearance(and an opening round 0-4 sweep at the hands of the NY Rangers) to show for it. This isn't good enough. ![]() I'd feel lousy if Ilya Kovalchuk was traded, that's for sure. Granted, his defense is sometimes a liability but he's a great offensive player. The Thrashers are going to have a hard time keeping Kovalchul unless, IMO, they have a better year this season in the won-loss column. Marian Hossa was offered a lot of $ and still left Atlanta behind because he could clearly see how the Thrashers were floundering. Kovalchuk may feel similarly if this team plays poorly this year. |

Hopefully they can keep up the streak they are on now.. MOOOOOSE!! What a game to be blacked out.. but the radio feed was a little fix.. I wonder what they are doing today about the goalie situation.. one has to go as of today.. I like Pavs.. but he's not ready.. IMHO. Hopefully Kari is ready to go. I believe they are now 4 or so points from 1st in the SE divivion.. I'm looking forward to the next one. |

I think Kari Lehtonen and Johan Hedberg are both capable, as a number one and two goalie tandem, of providing enough quality goaltending to get the Thrashers into the playoffs. Both goalies are, at times, a little streaky. Personally, I would like to see the Atlanta Thrashers built around defense, much like the New Jersey Devils and Minnesota Wild. People may call it boring hockey but I like it.
