This game was released for the Famicom Disk System in 1988. Being a big fan of Kamen Rider(Black in particular), I decided to give it a go. And boy, did I regret it. This game is simply a blasphemy to Shotaro Ishinomori, the creator of the series.

Story: NA/10

All I can tell you about the game is not from the game itself, but from the show. From what I can gather, this game is an adaptation of the first story arc of the show, in which Kotaro Minami is transformed into the masked warrior by the same organization he's fighting against- Gorgom.

Graphics: 4.5/10

Only place I give the game major props is in this department. The opening shows Kotaro Minami(strangely dressed in a blue raincoat and sweatpant, with a bad haircut.) assuming the henshin pose, causing him to transform into Black with lotsa bright lights. Very bright and flashy. The backgrounds to the levels aren't bad, and I think the enemies are nicely designed. The kaijin(strange person, translated from Japanese) that are bosses in each level look somewhat but barely like their show counterparts. The graphics are the only decent part about the game.

Music/Sound: 2/10

The music and sound are terrible. Same tracks play over and over again, the annoying beboping basstrack when you are in levels, and the frantically irritating beeping of the bosses. The sound doesn't fare much better- generic, ordinary NES sounds.

Controls/ Gameplay: 1/10

This is where the game fails the most. First of all, you have to press the Up button to kick. Whoever heard of doing this? Really confuses me and slows down gameplay majorly. The jumping dynamics are terrible, you cannot control where you jump unless your timing is precisely accurate. You only have two attacks to work with, a basic punch & Kick, none of the elaborate and dazzling Rider Finishers that Black uses in the series. Proof of the developers' lack of spirit. The hit detection annoys me very much. It especially gets clunky around the kaijn, in which most hits aren't even registered, yet your hits are fully(sometimes excessively) registered, making it a huge inconvenience to go full-on fighting.

Rider Verdict!!!

All this contributes to my low score of the game. Avoid it like the plague, even if you are a Kamen Rider fan like I. Go play the newer PS2 games instead, they're much more explosive. I dislike this game a lot, good think I don't own it anymore. Really, save yourself the torture.

heyo Is this a "zero" rating or are you indicating it isn't worth a rating at all? Or other?
