Couldn't find a thread anywhere with the topic of Indiana Jones so I thought i'd start one on the heels of the upcoming release of the fourth Indiana Jones movie. Anyone have anything to say about Dr. Jones? I always look forward to watching these when on television. For the past couple of weekends, they've been airing on USAHD and SciFiHD.

I enjoy the "Indiana Jones" films a great deal. They are, IMO, good old fashioned action adventures. I just bought Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade(1989) on DVD. I had the first two but didn't have this one. The Blockbuster Video across the street from my employer's business had a large display of Indiana Jones merchandise on display-all three films on DVD, tumblers, hats and other stuff.

Among the three films released so far I would rate Raiders Of The Lost Ark(1981) my favorite.

With no disrespect to Harrison Ford, who for years has said he wanted to do a fourth "Indy" film, he is, IMO, too old to believably portray the character on the big screen, and do the kind of things that he did back in the first three films. I have seen the trailer for the fourth Indy movie and it looks alright. I'm sure the movie will do fine at the box office. Just my opinion.

Hard to believe that I don't own these movies on DVD. I'm waiting to get them on DVD until I find out if they'll be released to Blu-Ray. They look good on HDTV btw.

I've seen many references at DVD release sites, Russ, speculating that a Blu-Ray DVD set of all four films will probably be released around Christmas, 2008. This was posted at DVDActive.com:

There has been no announcement of a Blu-ray edition of any of the Indiana Jones movies. The most popular speculation is that they'll come out in Blu-ray for Christmas 2008, but no one really knows. Standard DVDs were being sold in large numbers for six long years before the first DVD edition of the Indy movies came out in 2003, so even though this Christmas would make sense, especially with the new movie due out on DVD by then, we just can't be very confident of a quick Blu-ray release

Paramount is still adjusting after the loss of HD-DVD. They're gonna be a little slow converting their titles (including Indy) to the Blu-Ray format. To cash in on the movie Paramount had to quickly strike while the hype was at its peak. Thus, the standard-def release.

Yeah, that makes sense. I forgot about that. I'll probably just wind up getting the DVD's until it's released to BR. I really can't say which 3 Indy movies I like best. They're all good. But I must admit. Temple of Doom I like alot. To me, that movie had some pretty cool scenes and some of the best lines from those movies. ("WE ARE GOING TO DIE!")
And you're not going to believe this either. It wasn't until sometime earlier this year that I realized that this movie was a prequel. I must have turned a blind eye to it or something or just never paid attention to that small detail. I'm actually going into Indy 4 thinking that it probably won't be as good as the first three, but should still be decent.

That seems to be the consensus among most film critics at the Canned, er Cannes Film Festival: http://movies.yahoo.com/mv/news/ap/2008051...1114128000.html

Indiana Jones... a great series.

I was very surprised that they were making a fourth about four years ago. I wanted to think it was just hearsay, but with each subsequent year the rumors became more concrete.

I haven't seen the movie yet but I'm told it's much better than they expected it to be.

Apparently a lot of people wanted to see it because this film has done, thus far, extremely well at the box office: http://movies.msn.com/movies/article.aspx?...315900&GT1=7701

My favorite Indy movie (not counting CRYSTAL SKULL, because I haven't seen it yet) is THE LAST CRUSADE. I loved Sean Connery in that movie.

I've seen Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull......it is astoundingly bad....I mean it is worse then you ever could imagine...it's literally one of the worst sequels of ALL TIME!

I loved the first 3 films...they are all classics but this film is a rancid pile of garbage.....if you want me to elaborate why...I'll have to use the spoiler thing....but truly a dreadful film....in fact so bad it's put me in a bad mood

... but this film is a rancid pile of garbage

very funny

Was your disdain about this movie because of the acting, the sets, the score, or the fact Harrison Ford is now old enough to subscribe to AARP benefits and is trying to do most of his own stunts?

Spoil away. If people are afraid of spoilers they really shouldn't be visiting these kinds of sites to begin with. But, you probably should use some spoiler tags. B)

Harrison Ford's age 64 I believe isn't the problem with the film as he manages to still hold his own...and I have nothing against aging action heroes...hell I even liked A View to a Kill, and John Williams score was fine but seemed uninspired compared to his usual...still a bad John Williams score is pretty much better then nearly anyone else can do.

The problems are in pretty much every other area. Shia LaBeouf is absolutely dreadful as indy's son....as all he seemed to do is try and do a James Dean impersonation...and not a very good one at that. Also other then Indy the characters just don't hold any interest including the incredibly flat villains and even Marion Ravenwood just wasn't as interesting a second time round (more due to writing).

The special effects are over loaded with CGI and not only does that ruin any chance of nostalgic charm....the CGI here is just particularly Bad and the action scenes are just way too ludicrous....I mean they always were but here it's so much to the point it takes you out of it and aren't at all gripped by it....very much the opposite as it also feels like Spielberg himself didn't much like the script and went through the motions only due to his friendship with Lucas.

But the part that this film really fails in it's awful script....I'll be giving you some spoilers and if you read them remember I'm NOT lying!!!:

1. [spoil]Indy survives a Nuclear test by climbing into a fridge which gets blown miles away. Not only that but he gets out and watches the mushroom cloud![/spoil]

2. [spoil]Jones's son catches upto a car and escapes killer CGI Monkeys by swinging from vines like Tarzan[/spoil]

3. [spoil]The Crystal Skull is really an interdimentional alien skull....yes really![/spoil]

There is plenty more stuff like that through out the whole film which make you wanna rip off your own leg and beat your own head it with it...that are 3 of the main ones though...also there is some reallt bad dialog in it too but that's harder to remember.
