The sentai series began as a creation of Shotaro Ishinomori's, the first series was called Goranger, the second was the bizarre JAKQ, the third was Battle Fever J, essentially a Japanese version of Captain America and the Avengers. 1984's Dynaman was irreverantly dubbed and broadcast on a late-night comedy show, USA's Night Flight. The dub ridiculed much of the well-produced show, which was actually ahead of it's time in terms of pyrotechnics. (BTW, I have this whole series uncut) Toei fortunately found out, and took legal action ,canceling the BS. The later series from Zyuranger onward found their way to the US in the form of Power Rangers. However, much of the original sentai's seriousness was taken out due to it being unfortunately targeted at kids. That's my short essay on the series. |
