This film, two seconds long, is the oldest surviving film. I think we should all see and enjoy this piece of history.

It's a masterpiece, too. Lovely plot, terrific acting... dialogue's a bit off, but the movie is free to interpret.

... but the movie is free to interpret

very funny

Question: how can you interpret anything from a moving image only two seconds long?

"Where is he going?"

"Why is she moving backwards?"

"What the heck is that silly dance for?"

Legitimate question.

"Why is she moving backwards?"

"What the heck is that silly dance for?"
These could attributed to the fact this film is, well, 120 years old. ;)

People walked backwards and danced silly in the 1880s?

That's just... confusing. heyo

Indeed they did, Kex. They're doing it, in fact, right now: it's called hip hop. tongue-2

I see, so hip hop is a 120 years old silly dance.

Doesn't explain the walking backwards, though. Speaking of that, the actress who did that, Sarah Robinson Whitley, died 10 days later.. but she left a big mark before going, being in the world's to-be oldest film!

No, it's not 120 years old...but I do think it's silly. tongue-2

Maybe or maybe not. Perhaps, Kex, walking backwards was a fad of some kind back in the late 1800's.

Looking at that movie clip, of something made from 120 years ago...make me wonder what movies will look like 120 years from now. I saw an internet article recently that films, in as little as 30-40 years, will employ CGI so advanced that most people will think it's real people and not computer images.

That sounds perfectly reasonable. I'm very interested in how a person from the 1880s would react to a movie of our age. :)

With utter amazement, I would think...unless they were watching low budget schlock like Kentucky Fried Movie or Where The Buffalo Roam. ;)
