Chapter 15: The General As Godzilla crushed a mini mart underfoot, phone call after phone call soared through the Japanese government, alerting the most important people to the situation. One of such people was a general, a man who, in 1944, had been a soldier who had experienced something that would have made him sound insane to retell. Called the “Lagos Incident”, surviving this event was what had gotten this man as high as he was in the Japanese Self Defense Force. His name was General Shindo. General Shindo received the call at exactly 2 minutes after Godzilla was spotted by a paranoid, American journalist. “Um…” he said into the mouthpiece, not sure if he had heard correctly, “now, when you say dinosaur, what exactly do you mean?” “Well…” his colonel responded, “a big…ah, scaly…lizard. A dinosaur. Big one, too”. The General was silent for a moment, trying to get it strait. Slow reactions were not usually in his repertoire, but this was tough to swallow. “Uh, alright…can I get some visuals?” “Visuals coming to you now, sir”. The monitor in the small, JSDF control room flared to life, displaying Godzilla rampantly tearing his way through skyscrapers. “Dear lord…” General Shindo said, shocked at the sight. Then, the General took action. “Alright, let’s test this thing’s mettle. Get some chaffees down there, pronto!”. At over 8 feet tall and 15 feet long, the somewhat small, but still deathly effective, M24 Chaffee tank was the top of the line in the JSDF’s armored units. Armed with a single 75 mm cannon, and dual 12.7 and 7.62 mm machine guns, the Chafee was a force to be reckoned with. And at the moment, 50 of these mobile boxes of armor and guns were being shipped to Tokyo, Japan. Meanwhile, Godzilla was unaware of the incoming military resistance and simply continued to destroy the city, annihilating any structure that stood in his way. Mike sprinted through the streets as fast as he could, Godzilla only six blocks behind him. He didn’t know what this creature was, or why it was here, but one thing greatly disturbed him: he had known this would happen. Somehow, inexplicably, he knew this would happen. What he didn’t know about was the pretty, young Japanese woman trekking through the sewer below him. Emiko sighed as she moved on. “Stupid sewer, stupid rats, stupid slime…” she pressed on, trying to find Dr. Serizawa’s lab again, to see if he had finally fine-tuned his moral compass. Up ahead, she saw the familiar steel door, just now opening from the other side. Dr. Serizawa came out, looking very distraught and distracted; at first, he didn’t even notice Emiko as he looked at the floor, thinking hard. When he looked up and saw her, he gave a startled cry and jumped in surprise. “Emiko! My dear…what’s going on? Is it coming? I only just saw the news, I was about to go find you, you can hide in my lab, the ceiling’s reinforced”, he was talking very quickly, “and, I did more research, and I’m sorry, dear, so, so sorry, you were right, the weapon, I miscalculated, it its too strong, it must be destroyed, I can’t allow-” he was cut off as a massive rumbling shook the tunnel, causing dust to come down in showers. Emiko, not yet aware of Godzilla’s presence, was confused, but she accepted gladly when Daisuke motioned her into his lab. Once inside, she started: “Damn earthquakes. Now, Daisuke, I’m glad you’ve finally seen the light on your little toy, but…the rest of that, what were you talking about?”. Dr. Serizawa looked at her in surprise, then said, “Well, the monster, of course!” “What monster?” Now the good doctor looked truly perplexed that she didn’t know what was going on. As the ceiling shook again, he hurried over to a small, dusty TV set, and turned on the news. “Oh my god…” was all that Emiko could say as she saw the gray form of Godzilla stomping through the street. |

Chapter 16: Assault “Fire!” And so they fired. Tank shells soared through the air briefly before smashing into Godzilla’s back. Huge explosions were sent up as the shells of the camo-colored Chafee tanks smashed into his dorsal spines. Godzilla paused for a moment. He could have sworn he had felt something on his back… Godzilla turned, to see the tanks resetting for another assault. Once again, they fired, and this time, small chunks of scaly skin were blown away from the monster king’s chest, and a small trickle of blood came down. As new skin was pushed out by Organizer G-1, Godzilla looked at the tanks, his upper lip curling. Puny humans… Godzilla roared viciously, then began to advance, his feet tearing into the concrete as he stomped down the street. Yet, even as he came, he was sluggish enough for the tanks to simply backpedal away, and continue firing. Their attacks did not seriously harm Godzilla, but they hurt slightly, and were annoying. “Sir!” the tank commander radioed in to his superior officer, “our cannons are not hurting the creature!”. When this information reached General Shindo, he gave the order to continue firing. He was looking at the screen very intently; something in this creature’s facial features looked familiar…not unlike the strange encounter he had 10 years ago… Now Godzilla was definitely angry with the tanks. He was getting very frustrated at his continuous failure to attack them. But then, there was some way he could hit them. Godzilla’s dorsal plates flashed neon blue. “Sir, the creature is doing something unusual!”. This was the tank’s final radio transmission. A surge of blue light launched forward, and struck the tanks hard. Asphalt was thrown into the sky, and the armor was melting right off the tanks. “Dear Lord!” one of the surviving tank operators said as he saw his fellows go down in flames. Godzilla stopped firing, and surveyed the carnage. The remaining half of the tank squadron was quickly given the order to fall back. As the Chafees rolled away, Godzilla turned, and began stalking around the block. The tanks were shocked as they came around a corner to find Godzilla right before them. With a stomp of his foot, one of the Chafees was immediately crushed flat. The last three tried desperately to backpedal, Godzilla leaned down and picked up two of them, crushing them in his hands, before whipping around and smashing his tail down on the last remaining Chafee. Godzilla reared back, roaring viciously. Down below, Mike was fleeing as fast as possible from the monster. With his great observational skill, he noticed something: the monster’s feet had not penetrated the sewer. So, to the sewer he would go. Pulling up a nearby manhole, Mike disappeared underground. Godzilla stood still in the middle of the street. He knew the attack wasn’t over. General Shindo had come to a conclusion: this was the same creature he had seen in the Lagos Incident. Something had happened to it, but it was still the creature that had saved his life on Lagos Island. But, be that as it may, it was now a threat. And it had to be dealt with. Which was why the general had ordered an attack from a group of F86F Saber Jets. The four aircraft sailed through the sky, sighting Godzilla in the street below. “Fire!” rang through the radios before a shower of missiles fell on Godzilla. The monster was consumed in plumes of smoke and fire, but as it dissipated, Godzilla still stood, not harmed at all. As the jets flew above, Godzilla’s tail quickly lashed upward, destroying one of the planes. Not wanting to lose anymore men, the general quickly ordered that the jets fall back. “Great!” he exclaimed in the control room. “Fantastic! Now what!?” Meanwhile, Godzilla had come to an open park, in the middle of which stood a large, red structure. As Godzilla advanced, the general said “Oh god no… not Tokyo Tower…” But just then, Godzilla heard a loud, ringing, echoing roar come from the coast. “What was that?” Anguirus had arrived in Tokyo. |

Chapter 17: Godzilla vs. Anguirus Anguirus howled again, and sniffed the air looking for Godzilla’s scent. “Does somebody want to tell me what the hell is going on here?” the general shouted out into the room to nobody in particular. Down in the sewer chamber, Dr. Serizawa and Emiko sat, protected, watching the TV as the news choppers brought in info of another creature emerging from the bay. Anguirus stood as tall as it’s natural quadrupedal would allow, water gushing off his form. Nearby, Godzilla had left the park, and was now ripping his way through the city, searching for the source of the roar. Anguirus was doing the same. In the control room, one of the technicians asked general Shindo, “Sir! What are your orders?” the general sat, stalling for a moment while he processed the situation before responding “Wait and see their reactions towards each other before we make an action”. Finally, Godzilla smashed through a wall of buildings, to see Anguirus at the end of the street. Without hesitation, the two creatures roared viciously, then lowered their heads and charged full speed at each other. It was like a sonic boom when the two titanic skulls smashed right into each other, the sound alone causing windows to shudder. Anguirus staggered back, dazed, as Godzilla’s skull had been the thicker. Now, Godzilla charged the organ in his spine with radiation. Raw, nuclear power ripped out of Godzilla’s mouth and hit Anguirus right in the chest, blasting the spiky monster right onto his back. Seeing Anguirus’s chest charred and bleeding, Godzilla proceeded to continue his attack, reaching down and sinking his claws into the burn. The pain was enough to cause Anguirus to snap out of it, and he converted the pain into pure rage, leaping to his feet and quickly swiping his claws against Godzilla’s chest, digging deep, scarlet chasms of gore and causing blood to flow onto the street. Anguirus continued this assault, repeatedly slashing Godzilla’s chest, only to watch as Organizer G-1 instantly repaired the injuries. Quickly, Godzilla leaned forward, sinking his sharp teeth into Anguirus’ shoulder, drawing blood and cracking the bone of the shoulder blade. Enraged, Anguirus pulled away, ripping off some of his own flesh in the process. Godzilla’s fins flashed with light again, and the meat in his mouth was incinerated as a stream of atomic fire pulsed out. Quickly, Anguirus spun around, causing the blast to strike the spiky carapace covering his back. When Godzilla ceased fire, he saw that the beam had left a burn mark and blasted away several spikes, but there was little other damage to the creature. Now, Anguirus stood upright and pumped as much strength as possible through his legs. Quickly, Anguirus launched back, slamming the shell into Godzilla, and penetrating his body with a number of spikes. As Godzilla fell to his back, bleeding badly, Anguirus leapt off him, turning to continue his attack, only to be met with a face-full of tail. Godzilla advanced as Anguirus backpedaled, ripping through another skyscraper in the process. Godzilla quickly came forward, tearing across the wreckage as Anguirus backed away. When Godzilla finally came close enough, he closed his hand into a fist and slammed it into Anguirus’ face. As Godzilla aimed to strike again, Anguirus this time opened his mouth and snapped it shut on Godzilla’s hand. Godzilla screeched in pain as blood dribbled from his bleeding fist. Quickly, Godzilla flared up his spines with bluish light, and launched a ray of atomic plasma right into Anguirus’ face. Now, the mutant Angilasaur was thrown back, smashing through another building and crashing down into the same park that held the Tokyo Tower. Anguirus howled, panic in his voice; he was blind in one eye. Godzilla stomped forward and noted the horrific scene he had created: half of Anguirus’ face was almost completely burned away, the eye gone, the muscle burnt, the skull visible in some places. Anguirus stood, howling in pain, as Godzilla continued to march into the park. It was time to finish the fight. Godzilla struck out with two hands, one wrapping it’s grip around his enemy’s throat, the other driving it’s claws into the burn on the spiky dinosaur’s chest. With a mighty heave, Godzilla raised Anguirus above his head, then chucked him into Tokyo Tower. Anguirus slammed hard into the red bars, causing the entire tower to cave in on him. Godzilla now charged himself with nuclear power, then unleashed another beam on the fallen structure, melting away bars, sending others flying into the air, creating a huge plume of fire from the wreckage. Godzilla waited several seconds before the metal bars began shifting, and the terribly injured Anguirus crawled weakly out. The creature was on it’s last limbs, too weak to fight, yet still, the brave little creature stood to continue on the attack. Godzilla was amazed by his foes bravery. A strange thought crossed his mind: What if he didn’t have to kill Anguirus? The brave beast didn’t deserve a cruel, finishing blow. So when Anguirus lurched forward to sink his teeth into Godzilla once again, Godzilla could have fired his beam once more, ended his little problem once and for all, but instead, he grabbed onto Anguirus’ throat and chest again, and hoisted the other monster into the air. Being so weak, Anguirus struggled very little as he was carried through the wrecked city, towards the ocean. Upon reaching Tokyo Bay, Godzilla threw Anguirus, as hard as he could, into the cool, soothing water. Godzilla wasn’t sure what had inspired such an act of charity. All he remembered before doing it was an image of some human, a young, Japanese female with oddly-colored hair. But now, Godzilla needed rest. Trekking across the partially demolished city, he came to the vast forests of Mt. Fuji. Here, he found a lake, so similar to the lake he had loved on Lagos Island. He gazed into the reflection, his mind going over how much had changed in his life. He dove into the cool lake, and fell asleep on the thought of how his life would never be the same again. |

Chapter 18: A Fateful Meeting As Mike staggered through the sewer, he saw, up ahead, a blank, metal door. There had been a few of these, so he simply pushed it open. Mike was surprised at the rather dry corridor here, leading into a dry, clean, well-lit room, at the end of which was a reinforced steel door. This immediately gave Mike the feeling that he shouldn’t be here, and as he turned to leave, he suddenly stopped, horrified. Standing in the doorway he had just stepped through was none other than the same odd-haired young woman whom had been haunting him ever since he had gotten off the plane to Japan. “Who are you? What do you want?” he immediately started saying. All she said was “The JSDF is looking to hide this situation. They will not let the world know about what happened here. But the world must know, or all will be lost. That’s why I need you, Mr. Lendriks. You are the only surviving foreign journalist who witnessed the attack of Godzilla, and his fight with Anguirus. Only you can spread the story to the outside world. This you must do”. Then, she pointed at the reinforced door ahead. Mike looked, and saw it was opening. When he looked back, she was gone. How odd…so the Japanese government wanted to stop the news from spreading, and Mike had to spread the story. She had been very mysterious, and mysterious people do have a tendency to be right…then there were the names she used for the monster, Godzilla, and the other word, Anguirus…this was very odd indeed. “Um…excuse me…” Mike jumped and shrieked in terror, he had forgotten all about the door opening. As he spun around, terrified, he came face-to face with non other than Emiko and Dr. Serizawa. Emiko continued: “oh, sorry if we scared you. Are you a refugee? If so, you can hide in here, the ceiling’s pretty strong.” she paused, gazing at him, before saying “are you all right? You look like you’ve seen a ghost”. “Maybe I have…” Mike muttered to himself. “Anyway, what’s going on? What happened to the monster?” “Another one came. Sort of a spiky quadruped. They fought, and the first one killed it” said Dr. Serizawa. Mike whispered to himself “Godzilla fights Anguirus. Now it makes sense”. As soon as he was inside, Mike looked around. On the TV was a helicopter’s eye view of some lake around Mt. Fuji. Odd machinery was all around the room, with the most eye-catching piece being the large, white hourglass-like object with a silver sphere in the center. Against the wall, there was a fish tank filled with skeletal fish. Mike shivered; it was a very creepy room. “Alright.” said Emiko. “This is my fiancé, doctor Daisuke Serizawa. I am Emiko”. “Michael Lendriks” Mike responded as hands were shaken. “all right, you guys have a TV, you must know what’s going on”. Dr. Serizawa stood. “Another creature came. It attacked the first one. The big gray one won the fight, then went to Mt. Fuji and into the lake”. “Yeah, the first one’s called Godzilla, the other is Anguirus”. Now, Daisuke looked rather confused. “But…how…” then, his face went blank, and the image of the young woman with blond highlights appeared in his eyes. Then, snapping into reality, he sat down, saying “it’s not important”. He continued, saying “Well, I think the JSDF has this well in hand. I think we can all go back topside again”. ‘Wait a second!” Mike said, leaping to his feet. “You honestly think that they have it under control? Were you even paying attention when they shot it? They can’t hurt Godzilla. We need something stronger!” “Well, what would you suggest, Mr. L…” Then, he stopped, his eyes widening as he looked at the Oxygen Destroyer. Emiko seemed to read his mind and stood. “Daisuke, no, I thought we’d agreed it was too powerful!” “Emiko, I think you’ll agree, the circumstances have changed somewhat!” Mike piped up again “What are you talking about? What’s too powerful?” Emiko quickly explained “my dear Daisuke is a scientist. He created a weapon, calls it the Oxygen Destroyer. But it’s too dangerous, and now, thanks to you, he wants to use it on Godzilla!” “Emiko! There is no other option!” said Dr. Serizawa. “We can go to the lake, fire the Destroyer into the water, and kill that monster once and for all! And then, Emiko, I swear I will obliterate the weapon!” “And I want to help!” said Mike. “Please, if we don’t do this, they’ll just attack again, and wake him up, and he’ll just go back to devastating Tokyo”. After thinking a moment, Emiko said “Fine, Daisuke. Do what you will.” |

Chapter 19: Slaying the Dragon, Part 1 General Shindo had a plan. The remaining 42 Chaffee tanks were positioned around the lake, guns at the ready. A single barrage would be fired in to awaken the beast, and, once it surfaced, it would basically be blasted into submission. But the general just didn’t understand. Conventional weaponry, no matter how much of it was used, simply couldn’t kill Godzilla. This was why three people had left the city under the cover of the nighttime, and snuck into the forests of Mt. Fuji. The odd trio slunk silently through the woods: Dr. Serizawa, one-eyed, aging, slightly out of touch with reality, Emiko, younger, more morale, and Mike, the immediate-action-orientated American. “Look out!” Emiko shrieked as she noticed the lights of a vehicle coming on the road. The trio quickly leapt behind a rock, hiding as 7 massive, armored tanks rolled by, accompanied by a large group of soldiers, clad in camouflage and carrying assault rifles. Several were actually equipped with impressive RPGs, making them a somewhat humbling sight, striding along with the deadly, black tubes on their shoulders. One of the soldier’s gazed right into the forest for a moment, thankfully not noticing Emiko’s shoe, which protruded slightly from their hiding place. The other two, who had noticed this, held their breath in suspense the entire time the soldiers were passing. After the men had gone a safe distance, the trio sighed in relief and stood up. “Damn woman’s footwear” Mike said as they started off again. Soon, the heroic trio had the lake in sight. The night’s crushing blackness was permeated by shining white spotlights on the surface of the lake. Camo-colored tents lined all the shores, guarded by tanks and legions of men. A perimeter of soldiers formed a ring around the area, preventing anyone from coming in. Slowly, the trio crept up, until they could proceed no further, for risk of being seen. “Great” said Dr. Serizawa. How do we get in?” They sat for a moment, thinking. Finally, Dr. Serizawa said “Well, Mike, you wanted to help, here’s your chance. I don’t care how, just distract them so we can get in!” “Don’t worry about it” the American said confidently. And with that, he stood up and walked right into the open, towards the guards. “Howdy-doo, morons!” He yelled at them. Shouldn’t you be killing that thing?” One of the men stepped forward, saying “this is a restricted area, sir, you’ll have to come with me.” “Oh, I’m not going anywhere!” Mike responded as the soldier stepped forward. “In fact, you want to see what I think of your whole operation here!” And so, to the amazement of his newfound friends, Mike turned around, undid his belt, leaned over, and mooned the soldiers. Dr. Serizawa leaned his head down, and shook it as if disappointed, while Emiko had tears streaming from her eyes, and was biting her fist so as to keep herself from laughing out loud. As Mike quickly hoisted his pants up and fled from the astonished soldiers, Dr. Serizawa took Emiko’s arm and led her away, while saying, “Americans…” finally, they came down to the shore, and removed the backpacks they had been carrying. Dr. Serizawa opened his, revealing the Oxygen Destroyer, Whilst in Emiko’s, a length of hose. While Dr. Serizawa was setting up the machine, another man, about 10 years older, and much more sane, sat in a military control room, surveying the lake on the monitor. “How long till we’re ready?” asked General Shindo. “About two minutes now, General.” “Good” the General said. He was looking forward to feeding that overgrown lizard some old-fashioned, vengeful justice. “Now let’s show this thing how we do things in Japan. Commence operation ‘blow it to bits’ ”. Back on the lake shore, Dr. Serizawa and Emiko were all but ready. But on the other side of the body of water, ten soldiers were lining up, RPGs at the ready. “Fire all!” their commanding officer yelled. And, with a flare of light, ten Rocket-Propelled Grenade Missiles were launching into the lake. After a second, several bubbles came to the surface. Then, after almost twenty seconds, the water exploded in a frenzy. Godzilla thrashed to the surface, snarling in rage. “Fire the cannons!” |

Chapter 20: Slaying the Dragon, Part 2 It was as if all hell had broken loose. RPGs and Chaffee tanks fired together, the outbreak of gunfire sounding like a single, massive explosion. Huge balls of fire covered Godzilla’s form, engulfing him in a massive inferno. Finally, the gunfire stopped. Emiko and Dr. Serizawa watched tensely. Mike, hidden in tree in the woods, with a bird’s eye view of the lake, watched on as well. General Shindo was leaning forward in his chair. Then, from within the cloud of smoke, there was a brilliant starburst of neon blue light. A fearsome column of atomic heat shot from the cloud, striking some of the tanks and tents, and demolishing them in a massive explosion. As the beam continued to move along the coast, annihilating more of the military settlement, Dr. Serizawa sat on the beach, saying aloud “Great! Now what!”. Emiko had no answers. Mike had come down from his tree, and was now heading through the forest to where Dr. Serizawa and Emiko were. Meanwhile, Dr. Serizawa’s mind was racing, trying desperately to think of something. Finally, as Godzilla ceased beam fire and began slowly advancing towards the shore, Dr. Serizawa’s mind clicked on an answer. “Emiko! Here!” and, from his backpack, he pulled a box of what seemed to be marking flares. “Marking flares? How will those help?” “These are no ordinary flares! I designed them myself, they shine brighter than anything else yet invented! Go and find a flare gun, load it with one of these bad boys, and fire it into the lake. Maybe it will lure Godzilla back down. Hurry!”. And so, Emiko hurried into the forest, to find a soldier and take his flare gun. Now that she had left, Dr. Serizawa’s look of excitement turned to one of sadness. He knew what had to be done… As Godzilla rose to only ankle-deep in water, Emiko came across two soldiers in a clearing. They were standing around a stack of boxes with a radio on top, clearly waiting for orders. Emiko knew she had little time before Godzilla would simply stride back to Tokyo, so she acted fast. Leaping out from behind one tree, she yelled “hey” at the men to get their attention, then leapt back into the bushes. As one of the soldiers ran after her, she surprised him from behind a tree, and smacked him hard in the face with a heavy branch. Quickly, she snatched his flare gun and sprinted away. Soon, Emiko came to the beach, and saw that Godzilla had risen up onto land on the far side. Without wasting a second, Emiko loaded a flare into the pistol and fired into the lake. The shine was so bright, Emiko had to turn away. Godzilla turned, seeing something shining more brilliantly than anything he had ever seen, with the exception of the sun itself. He had to explore this oddity… so, quickly, he dived back in. Beneath the water, Godzilla saw the flare was already going out. What a waste of time. As he turned to head back, he felt something funny…Emiko watched the water’s surface like a hawk. The tension in the next few seconds made it feel like a year. Finally, Godzilla burst above the surface, and Emiko’s heart dropped, thinking failure. Then, she noticed what was happening… The good doctor had activated the Oxygen Destroyer successfully. Godzilla thrashed on the lake surface, howling in pain. Smoke was coming off his scales in massive quantities. Said scales seemed to be boiling, writhing on his body and shrinking away. Godzilla dove beneath the surface, trying to wash away the pain. Bubbles flowed off his form, and when it all cleared away, only a massive, bleach-white skeleton remained, perfectly clean and sterile of flesh. Emiko could see, just barely, the marble-white bone of the creature below the surface. It took her a moment to register victory. When it finally clicked in her mind, her face split into a wide grin, and she leapt into the air, proclaiming “Yes! We did it! We really killed that monster! Yes!” Quickly, she took off into the forest, searching for her fiancé. “Daisuke! We did it! We…” At first, she was quite confused. Where was he? The clearing on the coast was empty of Dr. Serizawa, and the Oxygen Destroyer, having served it’s purpose, was lying nearby, smashed against a tree. Emiko searched the ground, looking for some sign of Dr. Serizawa. Finally, she came to a large boulder, noticing a small note stuck to the side. She picked it up, recognizing Dr. Serizawa’s hand writing. She read the note, and it’s contents shocked her beyond reason, quickly, she read it again, and again, positive that she had read wrong. My dear Emiko, the note read, I want you to know that I have always loved you. But now, that must end. You said it: My weapon was too powerful, the world is not ready for it. To ensure it was destroyed, I burnt down my lab, and the Destroyer’s blueprints, as we left. Not only that, but, as you probably saw, the Oxygen Destroyer has been smashed. After I closed off these lose ends, I knew that there was one last avenue of information as to how one can construct the machine: me. So, Emiko, I do greatly regret the grief you will feel, but there is no other option. After I am finished with this note, I will walk into the Micro-Oxygen filled lake, and take my own life. Farewell, my love. Dr. Daisuke Serizawa, forever in your heart. As Emiko lowered the piece of paper, a single tear ran down her cheek. |

Story 1 Epilogue 2 weeks later. Michael Lendriks sat silently at his desk in America, working on a story. 10 days ago, he returned from Japan, went strait up to his boss, and quit. 9 days ago, he contacted a good friend and connection to get “the story of the century” in the papers. 8 days ago, the Japanese government was spooked by the leaking of the news, and admitted to the whole thing. The names Mike had given the creatures, Godzilla and Anguirus, stuck like glue. A week ago, Mike was given a job at a new paper , as a journalist for world events. His pay was double what it had been at his old job, and the stories much more interesting. Mike was seen as in-expendable by his employers, and his life had never been better. He was up late, writing about his experiences on his recent trip to Russia, when an image flashed into his mind, of a young Japanese woman with blond highlights. He lowered his head and closed his eyes, smiling. “Alright” he said into the darkness. “Show me”. His vision shifted to the bottom of a dark lakebed. Godzilla’s skeleton rested, collecting silt and sand from the lake floor. Deep within the reptilian cranium, a single brain cell, having survived the burning chemicals, was stuck fast to the inside of his skull. Slowly, another cell crawled along the edge. Purple in color, with three tendril-like appendages, the Organizer G-1 cell came to the brain cell, and seemingly out of thin air, produced an exact copy. As it repeated the process again and again, other scattered brain cells were also being found and worked upon by Organizer G-1. And slowly but surely, Godzilla would be rebuilt… ---------------- stay tuned for Story 2: The Beast of Destruction! Edited by Jack da King, Jul 7 2008, 10:15 PM.

Story 2: The Beast of Destruction Chapter 21: Ancient History 2,000,000 B.C. Bering Land Bridge. In the sky above the forests of the Bering land bridge, a vast isthmus that once connected Asia and North America, a bright light shone. A falling star. But this was no ordinary meteor. In the sparse forests below, a single Mastodon strode along. The majestic creature was as big as a modern day elephant, covered in reddish-brown fur. The prehistoric beast’s tusks were lined in a thin layer of frost, due to the bitter cold. Raising it’s trunk, the mammal trumpeted a cry to the empty forest, hoping to relocate it’s lost herd. But they were far away, and in the trees, several sets of eyes watched silently. The three cave lions neglected to make a sound, the snow at their feet eliminating all sound. Their beautiful, white fur rippled slightly in the wind, as their low, purring vocalizations went unheard to their unfortunate prey-to-be. Suddenly, they paused, their sensitive ears picking up and oddity in the usual noises in the forest. A loud whoosh. A bright white light went out across the silent forest, catching the attention of the Mastodon, it’s Cave Lion stalkers, and everything else in the forest. A startled pair of Megaloceras burst from a grove of trees, dashing off into the forest. A large Cave Bear rose from it’s stony den, investigating. In the sky, several bright, white spheres of light were launching across the sky, leaving long trails of white flames. There was a tremendous sound as one crashed into a hill, causing rocks to roll down the side, and leaving a trail of smoke in the sky. But when the smoke cleared, revealed was an object made of not stone, but metal. The side cracked open with a hiss, and a bright white light shone forth. Refugees from a distant world, the alien race known as the Eons colonized the Bering land bridge. They were, for five million years, very prosperous. Until the war. Two million years before the day of the rebirth, the Eons had a terrible schism in their society, splitting into two distinct factions, which waged bitter war. As the two sides clashed, one had a distinct advantage: genetic manipulation. With this tool, they created a trio of creatures: one of which became known as the Beast of Destruction. The three monsters nearly obliterated the other side, until one day, when a great flood came, and wiped out the Eons. The beast itself fled into the very Earth, hiding until it’s day came again. |

Chapter 22: Lendriks again One month after Godzilla’s attack. Three days before the day of rebirth. Mike Lendriks walked through the streets of New York, portfolio in hand, off to work. Then, he came to an interesting person in the crowd: A youthful, pretty Japanese woman, with blonde highlights in her hair. Having not seen this enigmatic figure in a month, Mike stopped, rather stunned. After regaining his composure, he said, rather rudely, “What now? Another behemoth? What’s going on now?” The woman paused before saying “Michael. Another creature is indeed coming. You must return to Russia, within three days”. “Three days? What happens then?” “That is the day of rebirth”. “Uh…Okay…rebirth of what?” Now, she truly seemed mortified. “the Beast of Destruction. Moscow, three days. It is one of three: The Beasts of Destruction, Death, and Fear. You need not worry about stopping the beast, I will take care of that. But you must be there and ready, to record the event. The world must see…” “Whoa, whoa, whoa, how will you stop it?” She looked down, eyes closed. “Leave that to me” she repeated. “Now, I must go, there is work to be done…” When Mike blinked, she was gone. “Odd…” he said. “And bad…To the airport!”. Moscow In the city of Moscow, all was calm. The city’s short buildings formed the skyline as the sun set. In the heart of the city, Saint Basil’s Cathedral stood majestically, the setting sun glinting off of it’s many windows. People strode in the street outside the Cathedral, only a few stopping and wondering what was happening as the ground shook slightly. As the shaking increased, most of the crowd stopped in their tracks, before the asphalt of the street began to bulge upward. Oddly for such a sunny day, an unusual treat for Russia, clouds began to gather in the sky, at an unusually fast rate. Soon, the entire sky was it’s usual, depressing overcast. But the action in the street had not stopped. With a sharp tearing sound, a massive crack tore along the street, before a shower of dirt and rock came forth. Before long, the entire city block was cracking and churning, people screaming out in patriotic sadness as the cathedral itself was destroyed. As the dust cleared, a massive figure was visible: towering, as large as Godzilla, and coated completely in rock. The Beast of Destruction was preparing for it’s rebirth… |

Chapter 23: The Mission The tower of rock stood, a silent sentinel in the center of Moscow. Occasionally, a small bit would crumble away, making little noise as it descended. Huge crowds gathered around the towering structure, none daring to go too close in case of further seismic activity. It was a few hours after the rising of the statue-like figure, the sky overcast, though it was difficult to tell in the depth of night. Many had already left the city, fearing danger, and soon, as a general evacuation order was given out, everybody was packing up and leaving Moscow. In two important locations, planes were being boarded to Moscow. In New York, Mike Lendriks packed lightly before boarding his craft. Meanwhile, in a military base in Japan, a private transport plane was being boarded by none other than General Shindo. He did not know why, but one of his fellow generals, General Alaxandrov Gagarin of the Russian military, had called upon him specifically for the situation in Moscow. However, he figured he couldn’t really ask questions until he got there, so he boarded the first plane to Moscow. The next morning in Moscow, General Shindo came down the steps from the plane, desperate for some answers. Then up ahead, he saw a large, bearded, burly Russian man, flanked by a V-formation of soldiers, who could be none other than General Alaxandrov Gagarin. “General Gagarin!” General Shindo yelled across to his peer. “General Shindo.” Was his rather coldly spoken response. As the two men reached each other, the Japanese and Russian men exchanged a brief “hello” before shaking hands. “General Shindo” Gagarin began. “We have an area for you to stay during your time here. We hope you enjoy your stay in Moscow”. “Is that it?” Shindo asked, looking towards the distant, towering figure in the center of the city. Alaxandrov simply nodded silently. “Alright, now one thing I’m curious about” Asked General Shindo. “Why exactly did you call for me specifically?” Alaxandrov simply shrugged before saying “Your defeat of the creature Godzilla impressed me”. Shindo could tell, however, that this was Gagarin’s way of dodging the question, as it was knowledge that Shindo’s forces did not kill Godzilla. What did kill him was still being investigated, with no results. Shindo did not push the issue. On a New York to Moscow bound flight, Mike Lendriks sat silently in his seat. He was too nervous to sleep. Until he had boarded the plane, he had not even really considered the danger he was putting himself into. How did he know that this Beast of Destruction wouldn’t kill him? He had no reason to think that he would get lucky like last time. As he dwelled on these frightening thoughts, a voice came over the speaker. The pilot said: “Ladies and Gentlemen, due to an evacuation notice in Moscow, we have been rerouted to land in Novgarad instead. We apologize for any inconveniences”. As the crowd, yet unaware of the towering death in Moscow, groaned in unhappiness, Mike, who did know of the beast, started thinking hard. As he thought, a stewardess came up. “Can I get you anything, sir?” “No thank you”. “How about a reroute back to Moscow, Mr. Lendriks?” Now he looked up, recognizing the voice. As he saw the blond haired Japanese woman, he smiled and said, “That would be lovely, Mrs.…didn’t get the name, actually”. She smiled back, saying “Just call me E.F. I’ll have the pilot head for Moscow at once”. |

Chapter 24: Assembling Events Mike didn’t find it difficult to locate a place to stay, as the city was full of abandoned homes that were not to difficult to break into. After locating a flat that had everything he needed (Television to keep up with the news, plenty of food and water), he settled down and started waiting. He could not help but notice that the military was clearly setting up a small, temporary base around the rock figure, taking scans, drilling in, etcetera. He knew that the Day of Rebirth was still two days off, so he felt comfortable in relaxing for now. But his nerves were about to be set off again… Mount Fuji Forests, outside Tokyo. A large lake glistened in the noon sun, a very peaceful sight. But beneath the water, something was stirring. The last thing he could remember was pain…such terrible pain…then it was like going to sleep, and now he had woken up. There was a throbbing feeling in his head, pointing like a compass where he needed to go. The world needed him… “Godzilla!” The voice echoed in his ear, and his eyes shimmered with a strange image…a human female…he had seen her before… “Godzilla!” she repeated. The sound stirred something deep within his subconscious. It was like he knew this was his name. The lake began rippling, before suddenly, the water was thrown upward in a massive, white explosion. One of the two watch choppers circling the lake turned to get a better look. “Oh my god…” said the pilot inside. Godzilla roared loudly as he rose above the surface, Organizer G-1 finishing up the last few “finishing touches”, as small patches of missing flesh on his body were filled in. Without wasting another second, Godzilla came up on the lakeshore, and started heading off, Northwest… The Next Day, Moscow Mike sat alone in the dark flat as the sun rose. As he clicked on the TV for the news, and opened a nice, cold Russian beer, he started to watch the daily headline: “…other news, Godzilla woke up and left Japan today…” Mike sat up strait as he sprayed a large amount of his amber beverage from his mouth. Once he was done coughing and sputtering, he got up angrily, and headed outside into the hallway. “Hey!” he yelled to no one in particular. “Hey! I know you can hear me, E.F.! Come here, I have to speak to you!” “No need to shout” came her soft voice from behind him. Spinning around quickly, he snapped, “You said the Day of Rebirth wasn’t until tomorrow!” “And it isn’t. Godzilla’s rebirth was yesterday, Destruction’s rebirth is tomorrow. I woke Godzilla up”. “You did WHAT!? Are you insane!?” “Who else do you expect to kill the Beast of Destruction?” “What about-” “Dr. Serizawa is dead, his creation with him”. “Oh…well, how will Godzilla know to come here?” “I gave him a little nudge in the right direction. Now, if you will excuse me, I have other matters to attend to.” And she vanished in the blink of an eye. |

Chapter 25: The Day of Rebirth One day later. In his apartment, Mike got his camera ready for some amazing photos. This was the day. Down in the streets, Alaxandrov watched in boredom as his scientists drilled into the stone structure. He looked very intimidating, standing on a high, flat piece of rubble, already a tall man, his cruel eyes staring down like the eyes of Satan himself. “Uh…General Gagarin?” One of the scientists muttered weakly, coming up to the imposing man. “What do you want, maggot?” was his response. “Well, you asked me to report in, so…” “Alright, then, what did you find out?” “Well, so far, we’ve drilled about eight feet into the rock, and we hit metal. The men have taken samples, and are analyzing them now.” “Fine then. Now, I’m done wasting my time here. I’m going back up to the base”. one hour later. Alaxandrov and Shindo watched over the city from the main control room. The two men had a slight tension between them, as they had quickly discovered that they were not fond of each other. Shindo disliked Alaxandrov’s cold, heartless nature, and the way he treated his underlings like slaves. Alaxandrov found Shindo’s tendency to complicate things very annoying. “So…” said Shindo in the light of the control room, midday. “What did the scientists say about the rock? Did they find anything interesting?” Giving him a cruel look, Alaxandrov stated “I would not waste my breath relaying the useless information from those scumbags”. “I see. You know, while you were out, I got a transmission. Godzilla’s awake”. Alaxandrov’s eyes flew wide open, and he snapped his head aside, looking at Shindo. “The…the Dragon is awake? I thought it was dead!” “So did I. By the sound of it, he’s headed this way.” After several moments of Alaxandrov’s shocked stuttering, a strange thought hit Shindo. “You don’t suppose it has to do with the rock, do you?” Now, Alaxandrov suddenly looked furious. “That’s ridiculous! Keep such idiotic thoughts to yourself!” “Now, hold on one second!” Said Shindo, turning towards Alaxandrov, suddenly angry. “I say nothing about you treating your men like useless peons, but this is too far! Before Alaxandrov could snap back, the building suddenly shook roughly. The entire city was shaking. In the sky, electricity was brewing. In an instant, a bolt of lightning struck the top of the towering figure, sending currents of electricity down the stone. Rocks began falling away, as Mike snapped photo after photo after glorious photo. The scientists surrounding the structure fled as huge boulders rained down around them. With a loud, low, rumbling roar, the Beast of Destruction was reawakened. Edited by Jack da King, Aug 19 2008, 05:10 AM.

Chapter 26: The Beast of Destruction It was bigger than Godzilla, but not by much. Unnatural yellow lightning flickering around the creature as it shrieked in aggression. In place of skin, the monstrosity possessed an insect-like exoskeleton, brown with an odd, ridged effect. Covering the monster’s back were two large, hard, beetle-like carapaces, brown with a dappling of yellow. The monster was humanoid in general shape, with two-towed, metallic looking feet, and arms that ended in, rather than hands, a pair of large, metal drills, with one side rounded, and the other flat. Though they appeared attached, a very close observation would reveal that these appendages were actually floating mere feet away from the severed stumps that really ended his arms. The monster’s head was very insect-like, with metallic mandibles, short antennae, and bulbous, massive, yellow, pupil-less eyes, that swiveled as they searched around in malice. Atop the evil’s head was a long, metal horn, which ended in a star-like shape. from the heavens above, a bolt of lightning, yellow in color, flew down and hit the horn, spreading yellow light all over the brown body. The short, spiny tail twitched, and the brown knees crouched slightly, the entire body flexing downward. It was Megalon. Megalon threw back his head, and screeched, insect like, to the sky, before his crouched body leapt into the air, wings open to take flight. Megalon hovered in the sky for a few second, then crashed down about a thousand meters forward from where he had jumped. Upon landing, Megalon screeched again and leapt once more, this time crashing down on top of a large apartment. Mike was in his flat, snapping photo after photo of the abomination as it hopped repeatedly across the city. General Shindo shouted orders to Gagarin’s men, as Gagarin himself was too busy watching in shock as Megalon continued to jump, trashing building after building. The Beast of Destruction knew no boundaries. |

Chapter 27: Furious wrath of Megalon Megalon crashed down in a large park, distinctly hearing a strange, rapid thumping sound nearby. Mike Lendriks, from his flat, continued to shoot picture after picture as a squadron of attack helicopters flew in, their rocket weapons firing at the insectoid abomination. All of the explosive projectiles crashed into Megalon’s chest, cracking the exoskeleton and causing a tiny trickle of yellow blood to flow from the wounds created. As Megalon screeched in pain, his single large horn was struck by lightning, which was, oddly enough, yellow. “Ha!” yelled Alaxandrov from the base, his animosity with Shindo gone as the two watched Megalon’s assault. “You see! Even the weather is on our side!” Shindo, however, looked rather uncomfortable at this new development. Indeed, rather than having any ill affect on Megalon, the electricity ran through the horn, before being fired back out from the front. The yellow beam crashed into one of the helicopters, sending it down in a crash of flames. The beam thrashed violently across the sky, taking down the rest of the vehicles in turn. Ceasing the beam fire, Megalon leapt out of the park, before turning back to it, his mandibles opening, before a large, red sphere of organic matter shot out and landed in the park. Mere seconds later, there was a massive orange light as a huge torrent of burning liquids shot out from the sphere, and the park became a floodplain of burning napalm. Megalon screeched loudly, his echoing voice ringing out across Moscow, as another group of support helicopters moved in, rockets unloading at the Beast of Destruction. But Megalon’s horn surged with electricity again, and he unleashed another stream of violent electricity at his foes, the beam striking one of the rockets, the resulting explosion taking out all of them. Suddenly, Megalon himself came leaping through the smoke, destroying all of the helicopters with his body. Just before Megalon crashed into the ground, he suddenly slammed his hands (the flat sides) together, and the seemed to fuse into one ridged, conical shape. Megalon repositioned himself so that the cone was facing forward, with the rest of his body behind it in a very aerodynamic shape. As Megalon struck down, the newly-formed drill on his hands started to spin in place, being capable of this only via the fact that it was not fully attached to his arms. The drill plunged hard into the ground, and Megalon instantly dove into the earth, beginning to tunnel around the city. “Where the hell did it go?” Inquired Alaxandrov angrily. There was a rumbling in the Earth as Megalon moved as if swimming beneath the surface of the city. As he moved, the city behind him shook and crumbled, before simply collapsing into a massive chasm. Megalon reappeared, bursting out from the soil only a few hundred meters from Mike’s position, screeching like an insect. It then occurred to Mike what a good idea it would be to leave at once. But he couldn’t leave now. Not now that he spotted Megalon looking towards the forest, through which tromped Godzilla. |

Chapter 28: Godzilla vs. Megalon As soon as Godzilla saw Megalon, he knew that this was what he had come for; he had to kill this creature. Godzilla’s upper lip curled into a snarl, his claws flexing in preparation for combat. Megalon did not need to think hard to understand these signs, and with a loud screech, he charged into battle. Godzilla brought up both fists as Megalon charged, it’s wings unfolding. Quickly, Megalon leapt into the air, wings keeping him adrift, and smashed his foot into Godzilla’s face. Godzilla staggered back as Megalon landed, but kept his footing, once again raising both hands in a combat position. But as Godzilla came forward, Megalon’s horn once again flashed with electric power, and a thin strand of yellow electricity shot from the metallic tip, hitting Godzilla hard in the chest, and causing his hide to shoot sparks as chunks of skin fell away, and a little blood dribbled down his torso. Godzilla snarled in pain; this insect was pissing him off. Charging forward, Godzilla brought his fist up in a hard uppercut, sending Megalon flying backward. But Megalon’s wings unfolded, and he caught himself in midair…only for a massive blue light to envelop the area, as Godzilla’s Atomic Heat Ray slammed into Megalon’s armored carapace. As Megalon smashed into the ground, flames enveloping his chest, Godzilla roared in fury and advanced. But, as he did, Megalon rose to his feet, a strand of yellow lightning lashing off his horn and striking Godzilla in the throat. As Godzilla staggered back, gasping for breath, his throat burnt open in a gruesome display, Megalon chattered in a laughter-like manner. But Megalon’s laughter stopped as he saw Godzilla’s throat just regenerate, the result of the Organizer G-1. Enraged, Megalon opened his mouth, firing a sphere of red matter at Godzilla’s feet, which sat for a moment before bursting into a shower of flaming napalm that bathe Godzilla in a sea of fire. Screaming in pain, Godzilla began to charge radiation across his spines, before unleashing a gushing hot blast of nuclear power on Megalon, sending the Beast of Destruction launching into a cluster of buildings. Godzilla roared in victory, but it just trailed off into a pained scream as the flames continued to wash across his body. Even as they died down, they had already taken their toll; Godzilla’s wounds were cauterized, slowing Organizer G-1. Godzilla collapsed onto the ground, fully aware that he had met a tie in the fight, and that his regeneration would be a long, agonizing process. |
