Chapter 29: Personality Clash Godzilla and Megalon lied in the devastated Moscow, both unconscious. Helicopters buzzed around them, draping massive, metallic wires, around 9 inches thick, over the beasts in a futile attempt to restrain them. Nearby, in the base overlooking the city, Alaxandrov strode up and down the control room, thinking hard. “Well, good” he said, “we have them contained. Now we…what? Dump them in the Sahara Desert and let them kill each other?” It was a statement, not a question. Shindo, still looking over the two monsters, shook his head. “I don’t think you understand these creatures, Gagarin. I highly doubt those cables can hold them”. “Oh? So you think you’re an expert?” Said Gagarin angrily. “Well, I did kill…” “Oh, please we all know it wasn’t you who killed God-” “AHA!” Alaxandrov clapped his hands over his mouth comically, stunned at what he had just let slip. “Alright, Gagarin. Now it’s time for some answers. Why did you really bring me here?” Gagarin stood tall, dignified. “I have no doubt”, he said, “that I did the right thing for my people and country”. “Yes” said Shindo, annoyed, “but why did you bring me here?” Gagarin stood silently, thinking. Shindo tapped his foot irritably. “Fine” said Gagarin. “I knew what was in the rock. I knew you had experience with this kind of situation, so I had you called in.” He paused, before adding, “It’s name is Megalon. It was put here by some sort of ancient race, we don’t know the details yet. All we know is-” There was a loud crack! and Gagarin fell from his feet, nose bleeding, Shindo standing over him, reeling after delivering the punch. You son of a- why didn’t you destroy it before it…hatched, or whatever…why did you have to lure Godzilla here, cost the lives of all these innocent men?” Getting to his feet and mopping up the blood from his face, in front of all his stunned ensigns, Gagarin continued, surprisingly calm. “ancient texts show that the people who created it used it as a weapon. We thought, if we could locate the control mechanism…” he trailed off, shrugging. Shindo walked up, obnoxiously close, glaring right into Gagarin’s eyes, which was returned in a scowl. “You think they had such a wonderful, perfectly controlled weapon?” he asked. “Then what happened to them?” As he walked away, leaving Gagarin speechless, he muttered, “I can only think of one creature who could make this worse…” As if to confirm his words, hundreds of miles away on the coast of Russia, the white foam broke apart, and Anguirus busted from the foam, roaring in vengeful fury. |

Chapter 30: Battle Of Moscow, Part 1 2 days later. Gagarin strode down the stairs of the military base, carrying his suitcases alongside. After a stirring report by General Shindo to the Prime Minister of Russia, the Prime Minister himself had come to Moscow by helicopter, to fire Alaxandrov Gagarin in person. All that was left for Gagarin now was a court marshal. He stopped momentarily, to look up three stories at Shindo, who was looking down from the window, and give him one last, cold glare before turning to leave. As Shindo watched the beautiful sunset fading below the horizon, the Prime Minister came up behind him. A somewhat old, by healthy looking man with a vast, bushy beard, the Prime Minister had been disgusted with Gagarin’s acts of treason, and fired him swiftly, and without remorse. “Now”, he said regally, “General…ah, Shindo, was it? Anyway, we have, of course, other Generals in our military, but they can’t reach Moscow for days, and I would be rather pleased if you could take over this military operation for the time being?” he said, adding an inquisitive tone at the end of sentence. General Shindo thought for a moment, then bowed to the Prime Minister and said, “It would be my honor, sir”. As the two strode back into the control room, one of the ensigns came up to Shindo and told him, “Sir! We found this man, an American, who had not yet evacuated the city!” The two guards were holding none other than Mike Lendriks. “Young man”, Shindo began, “Why have you not evacuated the city?” “It’s more than that sir” One of the guards said. “It seemed he was trying to get caught. He came running up to us, attempting to scream ‘Come get me, pigs’ in terrible Russian. He wound up saying, ‘Come eat my pigs’”. While some of the soldiers chuckled, Mike simply stood, unfazed, looking around the room. Shindo observed Mike momentarily. There was something odd about this American man, some strange sort of knowing. “What is your name?” Shindo asked him. “Michael, sir. Michael Lendriks”. The name seemed oddly familiar to Shindo, but he couldn’t place where from. Mike continued, as if prompted to. “I was caught on purpose, do I could give you an important message from a friend of mine. Anguirus is coming.” The name Anguirus caught Shindo’s attention, and his memory was sparked. “Lendriks! You’re the one who wrote about the attack on Tokyo! You coined the names Godzilla and Anguirus!” “Yes sir!” Mike said with a stiff salute and a smug grin. Shindo stood momentarily, sizing Mike up, having absolutely no reason to believe his message. “Guards” he began. “Please remove-” Before he could finish, an ensign ran into the room, yelling “Wait! General, he’s right, Anguirus was just spotted outside of the city, coming fast!” |

Chapter 31: Battle Of Moscow, Part 2 There was a tremendous crash as Anguirus came down after soaring through the air, smashing into a large structure and bringing it crumbling down around him. Roaring viciously, and with a look of feral anger in his eyes. Hissing, he sniffed the air, searching for the creature he had com looking for. He caught the scent, and was stampeding single-mindedly towards the source. The workers in the control room were trying to project his course, but this was quite unnecessary; Shindo knew why he had come. “Sir, we think he might be heading for-” “Let me guess. Godzilla.” “Ah…yes, sir.” The Ensign said. Shindo closed his eyes, sighing. “Alright. Prime Minister, your local Russian military forces are good, but I also took the liberty of calling home for reinforcements. Currently, the fighting force of the Japanese Self-Defense Force is shipping several large battalions of M24 Chaffee tanks here, to Moscow. With Godzilla and the New Monster here, and seemingly ready to wake up any minute now, plus Anguirus, the Russian military forces on their way, and the JSDF shipping the tanks, this will be…” he paused, looking into the Prime Minister’s face, before solemnly finishing, “Epic.” Anguirus snarled in rabid ferocity as he approached the place were Godzilla lied helpless in the city, his burnt body fully healed, but his mind still resting. The noise woke the nearby, yet unnoticed form of Megalon, who looked up at Anguirus, wincing at the agony of raising his neck. Spotting Anguirus, he knew he hadn’t much time. He would need to get back into battle, and fast. Raising his head more, he positioned his horn in a position of pointing directly towards the clouds above. Thinking silently, Megalon focused his metal power skyward, calling upon the elemental forces of lightning to aid him in battle. A white bolt of electricity surged into existence in the heavens above, causing Anguirus to stop moving and look upward. The jagged white beam launched down into the metallic horn adorning Megalon’s head, quickly turning yellow as the insectoid Cyborg stole it’s energy away. Anguirus took a few steps backward, taken aback by the sudden sight of Megalon rising off the ground and shrieking in unearthly power. Any other monster would have stopped to reassess their battle strategy. Strategy? Anguirus didn’t know the meaning of the word. Roaring his familiar, echoing moan, Anguirus leapt forward with full momentum, his claws and teeth gleaming brightly. |

Chapter 32: Battle Of Moscow, Part 3 As Anguirus soared through the air, Megalon was caught completely off guard. The reptilian beast slammed into him with a mighty crash, sending both monsters slamming into the earth with tremendous force. Snarling like a rabid dog, Anguirus ripped and tore at Megalon’s chest with his claws, digging deep trenches into his flesh, which rapidly began bleeding yellow liquid. Megalon screeched in pain, but his torment wasn’t over yet. Anguirus raised his head above Megalon’s chest, higher, higher, higher…then sent his head, lower jaw first, flying downward to slam into Megalon’s thorax. And Anguirus’s long tusks, sticking downward in such a way, were plunged deep into Megalon’s body. Megalon prepared his retaliation, and Anguirus heard a loud, mechanical whirring sound as Megalon’s drill hands activated. Megalon stabbed his drill into Anguirus’s stomach. Anguirus’ eyes squinted as he fought the pain; his scarlet blood flying out of the still spinning wound. However, Anguirus only took more power from the pain. Ruthlessly, he dragged his head down Megalon’s chest, the already-embedded tusks digging long trenches of yellow gore. Megalon screeched in pain, as his horn surged with electrical might. Megalon’s wings opened, and he launched himself out from under Anguirus with the power of flight. Crashing down in a nearby plaza, he unleashed a beam of electricity from the tip of his horn, the winding yellow blast finding it’s mark in Anguirus’ shoulder. The dinosaur was sent flying backwards, a small burn mark inscribed into his shoulder blade. Megalon stood tall, as he heard a loud whoosh in the air. He turned around just in time to see twelve missiles firing strait down at him, striking him in the chest and causing him to fall backwards into a large building, which was crushed under his weight. As Megalon thrashed around in the wreckage, the planes that had attacked him flew over and circled around to strike again. Quick as a snake strike, Megalon lashed out with a strand of electricity from his horn, striking one of the jets and sending it down in a massive fireball. As the other jets scattered to the sides, Megalon began searching the ground for other signs of enemy movement. Nearby, he saw Anguirus coming fast, teeth and claws bared. But unlike his reptilian opponent, Megalon knew how to apply strategy to combat. As Anguirus gained too much momentum to slow down or change direction, Megalon ducked low, bringing his horn almost to the ground. Anguirus was about to strike when Megalon brought his horn up fast, smashing it hard into the bottom of Anguirus’ lower jaw, sending the stunned Ankylosaur flying into a massive back-flip, spinning through the air until he crashed into the rubble of an already-destroyed row of buildings. Completely dazed, Anguirus was helpless as Megalon approached, his horn surging with yellow electricity. But before he could strike, there was a brilliant, neon blue flash, and a silvery-blue beam of plasma came flying in and struck Megalon in the chest. As the insect was launched aside, Godzilla stood nearby, his mouth still releasing bluish gases. |
