The Duel of the Deadly Serpents is here!

Match 3: Bydrus vs. Manda

Bydrus, the Mighty Eel
Good Swimmer, Teeth, Constriction, Electrical Surges

Manda (Millennium)
Good Swimmer, Teeth, Constriction, Claws, Tail

Monster Island. A vast Isle covered in all manner of titanic creatures, Kaiju, who are kept there until their services are needed. In the bay, a large, emerald serpent, called Manda, dwelled. This, in particular was an important day. Manda could sense it, as could several other of the island’s residents. Earlier this morning, one of their own, King Caesar, who had escaped several weeks ago, had been attacked and killed by an unknown, non-Kaiju perpetrator in the Sahara Desert. Just now, two ancient tortoises were awakening and battling in an Argentinean geyser field. And now, Manda knew his services were needed.

Manda hissed viciously at the fence of pure electricity that held him in. Quickly, Manda drove his head into the sand, trying to wriggle his way under the fence. After over half an hour of effort, the serpent was finally free from Monster Island Bay, but he wouldn’t have to go long for a fight. Up ahead, Manda saw a trio of glittering lights permeating the water. Growling savagely, Manda accelerated towards the shining beacons, then was surprised to see the creature coming towards him. It was another serpent. What was this? Another Manda? A friend? A mate? A rival? No, it was something else.

Bydrus’ form was long and sleek, muscular despite being mostly made of stone. Along the top of his body, was a long streak of orange and green fur, adorned with three glowing orange spines, and a wide, flat tail. Bydrus’ head was reptilian, with two long, Chinese-dragon-like whiskers of fur on the sides. Bydrus snarled at Manda, his mind going through his one, prime objective: kill. Without a second thought, the colossus lunged forth though the water towards his organic foe. Opening it’s mouth, Bydrus quickly clamped down on Manda’s body, taking the dragon by surprise and drawing blood.

Manda struggled in the vice grip of the new opponent, but Bydrus seemed to have no intent of letting go. Manda’s tiny claws struggled wildly, then managed to sink into Bydrus’ head. Letting go, Bydrus grunted in pain as his black blood sprayed into the water. Now, the two sea dragons backed away from each other, and started circling, hissing. The spines on Bydrus’ back flickered ominously, and Manda’s claws twitched in anticipation for the next attack. Suddenly, the two snakes lunged, and collided. Manda, being thinner and sleeker, quickly constricted Bydrus.

The two snakes were locked in a battle for supremacy, and neither was backing down. Bydrus squirmed, trying to throw Manda away, but Manda sank his fangs into Bydrus’ throat, and his claws into Bydrus’ body. As thin, black blood vanished into the water around the dueling pair, Bydrus’ spines flashed once more, and Manda began to feel a sharp pain shoot through his spine. Manda then realized where he had felt that pain before: surging out of the Atragon just before it froze him. Manda’s brain screamed at him: ELECTRICITY! Manda hissed wildly, letting go, but with a final flash, Bydrus charged the water with over 2,000 times the lethal dose of electricity for humans.

As Bydrus swam towards Monster Island, Manda’s body sank into the depths, lifeless.

As promised, a little something for you to chew on: Part 1 of match 4.

Match 4: Barba vs. Rodan

Barba, the Goliath
Fists, Strength, Feet

Rodan (Hesei)
Flight, Beak, Talons, Wings

In the vast, cold Gobi Desert, a giant had risen. A beast known only from ancient, mythical tales, the very real Goliath, Barba, had risen forth, in a time when all of his kind, the mighty and ancient Colossi, were rising to destroy the planet. The massive beast, Barba, rose from the freezing sand, secure in the knowledge that his time had come. The beast stood like a human, his stature wreathed in both grey fur and stone. His arms wore heavy stone gauntlets, and his legs were made of stone. Beneath his two, glowing silver eyes, a great beard of fur stretched to his chest. Barba could sense more of his kind nearby, specifically, Kuromori, the Wall Shadow, could not be more than a mile away. Barba would seek him out, and form a deadly alliance.

In the clouds above, the fearsome figure of a pteranodon swooped low, searching. But what at first looked like the iconic pterosaur, was in fact slightly different. Rodan’s beak was shorter than should be expected for a pteranodon, and the pterosaur’s famous crest was replaced with several twisted horns. Rodan’s chest was covered in a sheet of armor, jagged with spikes. Rodan had a mission here. He braved the cold and hunger this land brought, because he knew he had to help the world. And now, some new force was arising. He had seen it slay Manda down below, as he left the island. And here, in this desolate wasteland, he could feel the same force growing in power. This desert’s tally, as far as Rodan could sense: two Colossi, one Kaiju, all unfamiliar.

Rodan knew the other Kaiju was close, very close. He scanned the sky, until his keen eyes picked it up: an enormous bat, long-tailed and pink-furred, soaring through the clouds. Normally, Rodan would attack this Kaiju, but he knew he needed an ally in the battle to come. Bagorah, the great bat, felt the same. He too had spotted Rodan, and with a single glance, the duo formed an unspoken alliance. Down in the desert below, a structure that had not been gazed upon by human eyes since it’s construction. A mighty pit, lined with coliseum-like walls, the sandy, circular floor about 150 feet in diameter. In the bottom of the pit, shrouded in darkness, Kuromori lurked. Another Colossus, the vicious Wall Shadow could smell the two flying Kaiju above. Electricity warped with toxic chemicals in the darkness, and three golden projectiles launched into the heavens. Kuromori had entered the fray…

Bagorah and Rodan sailed through the clouds, oblivious to the energies gathering against them. Suddenly, a bright flash of golden light heralded Kuromori’s deadly weapons as they smashed into Bagorah’s chest. The bat howled once before plummeting into the shadowy arena below. Rodan screeched and flew down to assist his ally, before he saw something that truly caught his attention: Barba, standing in the sand below. As Rodan shrieked a battle cry and began to dive, Barba looked up, clenching his fists for battle.

If you think the colossi you've seen so far are badass, wait till you see Kuromori in action.

Part 2 of the fight is here.

Rodan dove in for the attack, before slamming into Barba full speed. Though Rodan’s entire body smacked into Barba, the Goliath stood strong, causing Rodan to simply fall to the ground in front of him. Now, it was Barba’s turn. Raising one arm, Barba smashed his fist down on Rodan’s back, creating a loud boom that rang across the desolate landscape. Barba then reached down and tried to grab Rodan’s throat, only to have Rodan plunge his beak into the palm of Barba’s hand. As black, semi-gaseous blood washed across Rodan’s face, Barba pulled away, clutching his hand in agony.

Rodan leapt backward, examining the situation. Charging in headfirst had been a mistake, he knew that now. As Barba regained his ferocity, he stomped forward, advancing on Rodan. Rodan fell back more, staying out of arm’s reach, as he observed Barba’s unarmored areas. Finally, Rodan took Barba by surprise, exploding upward and flying over Barba’s head, his spikes rupturing the soft flesh of Barba’s skull and causing a fountain of gaseous blood to run forth. In a rage, Barba turned and groped after his flying foe, but Rodan had already flown out of reach.

Quickly, Barba charged ahead, but Rodan had already become invisible in the swirling sands. As the goliath advanced, Rodan remained hidden, flat against the ground behind a massive sand dune. After Barba passed, the witty pteranodon lunged from his hiding place, and stabbed his beak right into Barba’s back. Barba turned, howling in pain, but Rodan had already burst upward, leaving behind a sonic boom that toppled Barba off his feet. Up above, Rodan circled around and gazed at his toppled foe. Barba was nowhere to be seen. Rodan came low, searching for his enemy.

He can play hide and seek, can he? Were Barba’s thoughts. Well, so can I! As Rodan passed overhead, Barba exploded form beneath the sand, and grabbed onto Rodan’s wings. Rodan shrieked in terror, thrashing in a desperate attempt to get free before Barba massacred him. While still holding one of Rodan’s wings, Barba brought back the other hand in a fist, preparing to smash it into Rodan’s face. Rodan quickly swerved aside, dodging the fist, but moving into a position standing right next to Barba, and with Barba holding Rodan’s wing, it looked ridiculously like they were holding hands, going for a nice stroll together. But Rodan continued to move in this fashion, so that he and Barba were actually back-to-back, with Barba’s left hand holding Rodan’s right wing, and Rodan’s left wing claws sinking into Barba’s right elbow, and their backs pressed up against each other.

Ridiculous as this looked, Rodan had a plan. From this angle, all he had to do was lean back, and his cranial horns would be driven into Barba’s skull. And Rodan was not one to pass up and opportunity like this. Taking his time, Rodan charged up, leaning as far forward as possible, then, with a snap, he launched his head backward as hard as he could. Sure enough, the spiraling horns drove into the back of Barba’s head, with incredible force, their odd shape creating massive, deep wounds that let profuse amounts of black blood spill onto Rodan. Rodan turned as Barba fell to the ground, dead. With a final, victorious battle cry, Rodan took off, leaving his deceased opponent behind

Match 5: Bagorah vs. Kuromori

Kuromori, the Wall Shadow
Energy Bolts, Climbing Ability, Tail

Bagorah
Talons, Teeth, Sonic Blast, Sonic Screech, Flight

Bagorah rose up, shaking away the dust and sand, and looked around. He was sitting at the top of the coliseum pit. Bagorah knew he had to help Rodan with Barba, but he also knew he had to come down into the pit. For some unknown reason, he had to come down. And so, he gripped the sides of the coliseum with his claws and began to clamber down. The bottom of the pit, large enough for two Kaiju to fit comfortably, was shrouded in darkness. Suddenly, there was a flash of bright gold in the darkness below, and Bagorah was struck by a series of golden spheres of light, each one bursting into an electric pulse upon hitting Bagorah. Bagorah screeched in pain before screeching even louder, creating a solid burst of sonic energy into the pit.

It was quickly apparent that Bagorah had hit nothing, but something was very wrong. The places where the electric blasts hit were now fuming with yellow gas. Bagorah coughed and gagged as the fumes overtook him, before losing his grip and plunging into the darkness below. In the pitch blackness, the bat stood up. There was something else here, moving around, Bagorah felt it brush right past his foot. Panicking, Bagorah discharged his sonic scream into the darkness, again hitting nothing. Then, he felt something strike him hard in the chest, causing him to stagger back and smash against the wall. Quickly, Bagorah turned and grabbed onto the wall, then started to climb.

Down below, the blue eyes of Kuromori flashed with light and watched their prey escaping. This, the wall shadow could not allow. Bagorah heard a vicious hiss from the opposite wall, and turned to look. There, Kuromori was climbing up, finally visible in the sunlight. Kuromori was somewhat small; about three quarters of Bagorah’s size. He was a quadrupedal, Gila-Monster-like lizard, made seemingly entirely of stone, with a mouthless head that had two blue eyes, and a short, armor-plated tail. Each of his legs glowed white. Kuromori hissed at Bagorah, as if to say “it’s on”.

Bagorah did not waste time. He immediately fired his sonic blast at Kuromori, causing the lizard to flinch, but have no real effect. Quickly, Kuromori began to crawl along the wall, coming around the circular structure right towards Bagorah. Bagorah looked up; he could tell he would only win if he could escape this hellhole. So, Bagorah began to climb up. Soon, Kuromori came to be right beneath Bagorah, coming up after him. Bagorah had almost reached the top when he was suddenly struck in the back by one of Kuromori’s blasts, fired from where his mouth would be. As poison gas wreaked Bagorah’s body, he slid downward slightly, now close enough for the wall shadow to latch on. Kuromori rose up, wrapping his clawed hands around Bagorah’s tail, before pulling himself up further, sinking his claws into Bagorah’s back, drawing red blood.

With Kuromori riding piggyback, and Bagorah suffering from the affects of the gases, Bagorah though for sure this was the end. Kuromori would pull him into the pit, then mercilessly kill him. But somehow, Bagorah found his strength. Quickly, he fired a burst of sonic power into the sky, and kept it up, the surging sonic energies keeping the gas from entering his mouth. And as he kept this up, he slowly began to climb, rising to the occasion as he ascended. Up in the skies above, Rodan flew in, his horns, beak, and chest stained in Barba’s blood. As Rodan searched for Bagorah, he saw the pink bat as it climbed to the surface from a deep pit, Kuromori riding piggyback. Rodan considered going down to help, but he felt it would be wrong, interrupting his newfound friend’s fight.

Now, Bagorah had the upper hand. After screeching a greeting to Rodan, the bat lifted off, causing Kuromori to fall to the ground. Bagorah shot upward into the sky, before circling around and howling down a challenge at his reptilian foe. Kuromori accepted gladly, firing up a series of golden bolts at Bagorah. But Bagorah was in his element now, and dodged them with air maneuvers that made even the watching Rodan fell slightly threatened. Now, it was Bagorah’s turn. A loud sound split the air before a blast of sonic power was fired down, striking Kuromori right in the armor plating covering his back. Now that his enemy was stunned, Bagorah shot another blast into the sand next to Kuromori, throwing upward a huge fountain of sand, and flipping Kuromori onto his back.

Now, the lizard panicked, screeching wildly as he thrashed his legs in the air. Now, Bagorah saw: Kuromori’s chest was covered in leathery, black skin. Wasting no time, Bagorah swooped down low, and sank his talons into Kuromori, releasing a fountain of thin, dark blood. Bagorah took back to the sky then, ripping away a sheet of scaly skin, and revealing the black muscles below. As Kuromori screamed for mercy, Bagorah began to charge up his most powerful sonic blast yet, before bolting it right into Kuromori’s chest. Immediately, the lizard began to vibrate and bleed excessively, his organs being disrupted, his entire body being pumped full of sonic energy, until…

BANG! In an instant, Kuromori’s entire body, rock and all, exploded into a massive, black shower of chunks. Bagorah screamed viciously, celebrating the gibbing of his enemy. But the celebration was short lived, and Bagorah and Rodan soon set off again. The rest of the world was in need on their assistance.

In summary: Bagorah= shreek ly powerful Kuromori= deadzone ified
