I am absolutely sick and tired of people bashing Christianity. WHY CAN'T I JUST BELIEVE WHAT I WANT? Everywhere I go, whether AOL, a fan board for my favorite band, or youtube, there ALWAYS has to be some idiot bashing Christianity.

There are a lot of idiots in the world, Smythe. Both on the internet and in real life. Getting worked up about those on the internet who "bash"(your words) Christianity will do you no good. The only thing important here is this:

-stick to what you believe and show respect, always, for the religious beliefs of others. That includes those who do not believe in any religion, or any "God". Pay no heed to those who would criticize your faith.

Kind of reminds me of the whole "War on Christmas" thing that pops up every year. It kinda bums me out that I have to be careful who I say "Merry Christmas" to nowadays. I hate to sound like an old man but when I was a kid you could pretty much say "Merry Christmas" to anyone you passed by on the street without feeling like you're offending someone. Honestly, I blame a lot of this on P.C. bullshite.

It's similar to the controversy from this past Christmas, Dan. Recall that many malls across the United States began prohibiting the mall "Santas" from saying "ho,ho,ho!", presumably because women might be offended by such words. My question: why weren't they offended in previous decades? Why all of a sudden are these words full of potential disrespect?

Because it didn't have the same meaning in the past, perhaps.

General rule, Smythe: If something is known to everyone, around a third will inevitably spend an unnecessary amount of time intensely bashing it. For example Christianity, Islam, atheism, Christmas greetings, country leaders, Global Warming etc.

Good people just agree to disagree.

It's true that lately it has become "cool" to bash religion, as atheists are more enlightened or something. I have nothing against atheism. Sometimes I just wonder what happened to my freedom to believe what I want. As long as someone doesn't use their religion as an excuse to kill people, then people ought to be free to believe whatever they need to believe to get through the day.

I have often asked myself the same question. I have seen discussions of religion(and race and politics) frequently degrade into name calling and other exchanges of insults and profanity. Some of the worst ones I've seen are at various Yahoo forums and at CHUD. Regarding the latter I was referred to as a "faggot" because of what I do for a living(I'm a landscaper), and in the "Welcome" thread no less. Try figuring that one out. loco

It's one reason why I don't participate in discussions of religion, politics or race at any message board. I have considered prohibiting the discussion of them here.

It's very easy to criticize and "bash". Seems like a lot of people are doing it these days. Maybe the fact it's so easy is why many do it.

Good point. It is very easy for any discussion about those subjects to go the wrong way.

It certainly is and it's very regrettable. As I mentioned I considered, for a time, prohibiting the discussion of religion, politics and race at Monsterland Forums. I decided against it because the purpose of a message board is obviously to provide a forum by which people can exchange ideas and opinions, something I don't want to restrict here at all, or at least only when I believe it absolutely necessary.
