The side stories are here. Discuss them in the G: Chaos discussion thread. Chaos Side Stories Story 1: Man vs. Beast Part 1: Evil Uncovered Unknown Japanese Lake, 1954 “Incoming!” As Godzilla’s blue beam raced from the center of the lake, the soldiers on the beach ran aside, screaming, desperate to avoid the deadly blast. Among them was private Honda, one of the newer soldiers in the platoon, this being only his second year in the JSDF. As private Honda and his fellows ducked for cover, the beam plowed up a huge storm pf fire and smoke, and a shower of flaming chunks of rock fell, one of them crushing a pair of the unit’s finest men. The rest of the small unit, now down to six men, including private Honda, fled into the forest, desperate to escape the rapidly spreading flames. Behind the men, the now-charred rocks continued to crumble away, revealing a sheet of brown, shell-like substance. In the forest, the men stopped running, catching their breath. Several tried to make radio contact, but somehow, their radios were being scrambled. “Well, then, we’ll have to move until we find another unit” one of them said. Then, suddenly, one of the men keeled over, groaning as if by a severe stomach ache. Private Honda, who was standing next to him, asked “are you feeling okay?” just before he fell to the ground, unconscious. The eggshell cracked apart back at the lakeshore, a long, thin, insectoid leg extending outward. Slowly, the giant insect, resembling an 8-foot long, brown hybrid of a cockroach and an ant, ripped it’s way free of the now-exposed egg. The beast turned, hissing loudly at another, nearby egg. Quickly, this one too began to crack and split, before another such creature emerged forth. The process repeated again with a nearby egg, than another. The four insects hissed, probing the air with their antennae. They soon caught the scent of a pair of nearby food sources. Ripping away some of the rocky ground, the insects found a pair of crushed, burnt bodies. They wasted no time, ravenously devouring the corpses in no time flat. But they were still hungry. They caught another scent… What are we gonna do? None of us are medics!” One soldier said, gazing down at the man who was sick with what they had determined to be radiation poisoning. “The radios are sill haywire, one of our men is sick, we have no clue where we are”. They all stood, and walked over, away from the sick man lying on the makeshift bed of leaves, to the boulder, where the two radios sat. One spoke up: “All we can do is move out and hope we find someone. As for… Hey, where did he go?” All the men looked, but the sick man was nowhere to be found, vanished from his bed. Above, in a tree, a large insect fed ravenously on his body. |

Part 2: Meganulon assault The five remaining men stalked through the woods, guns raised, sensing the nearby hostility. The four insects, the so-called Meganulon, watched them from the dark, silently stalking them as the sun set. The frightened men finally decided to stop and rest, building a fire in the middle of a large clearing. One of them stood, walking over to the edge of the clearing an leaning against a tree. Just above him, resting on several thick branches, was a Meganulon. The creature released a low hissing sound, causing the soldier to look up, puzzled. Then, it struck. The hungry monster lunged down, but maintained it’s grip on the branches, then grabbed onto the man with it’s two front legs. The others noticed as the man was pulled up, but suddenly, the other three Meganulons lunged from the low bushes, from every direction, and charged towards the men in the center. Immediately, machine gun fire broke out. The men backed into the center, taking care not to step on the fire. The Meganulons came forth ravenously, ignoring rounds that penetrated their armor and drew their blood. Though one of the vicious animals fell to the onslaught, the others came forth and attacked two of the soldiers, quickly killing them with their dangerous, powerful mandibles. The other two, including private Honda, backed away, opening up a shower of gunfire on the creatures. Another Meganulon was quickly killed, and now, the last one advanced on the cornered men. Immediately, Private Honda pulled a fragmentation grenade off his vest, and threw it at the beast’s feet. The ignorant monster continued forward, just before exploding into a shower of bloody gore and carapace chunks. The two last men in the garrison sighed in relief, just before the last Meganulon, the one in the trees, quickly grabbed onto the man standing next to Honda from above, and began to pull him up. Panicking, Honda raised his weapon and discharged it at the creature, but heard only rapid clicks. Tossing the empty gun aside, he did the only thing he could do. He ran. |

Part 3: Redemption Private Honda sat beneath a tree in large clearing, ashamed of himself. He couldn’t believe he had just left that fellow soldier to die. Sure enough, looking back on it, there wasn’t much he could have done. But then again, what if he was wrong? The more he thought about it, the more he wished he had acted. Therefore, he could see only one true course of action: rather than fleeing the forest, he would confront the insect, and kill it. This would prevent the beast from reproducing, reaching Tokyo, and taking more lives. This would redeem him. Honda stood up, and drew his knife. It was time to go hunting. Nearby, in a tree, the Meganulon sat, digesting it’s meal. It could feel eggs brewing in it’s body, but it would need yet more food if it was to lay. So, the Meganulon began descending from the tree, ready to hunt down the last human, and feast on it’s flesh. Already, the pest’s large antennae were picking up the creature’s scent, not far away. With a hiss, the Meganulon began to crawl through the underbrush, following private Honda’s scent. Nearby, Honda walked, knife out, near a large rocky outcropping. From the thick foliage, the ravenous, carnivorous insect watched, mandibles clicking hungrily. And finally, it struck. The Meganulon lunged from the thick foliage, hissing fiercely and scuttling towards it’s prey. Surprised, Honda leapt backwards, tripping over a low rock and landing on his back. The insect saw it’s chance and went on the attack, it’s mandibles opening as it prepared to slam them shut on Honda’s foot. Quickly, Honda lashed out with his boot and kicked the creature in the face, allowing him the time he needed to get to his feet while it stumbled back. Now, Honda came forward, brandishing his knife, before plunging the blade into one of the insect’s compound eyes. The beast screeched in terror and pain as a fountain of thick, yellow blood flowed from the ruptured organ. Honda wasted no time backing away from the beast, and clambering up onto the rocks behind him. With a hiss, the now half-blind Meganulon lashed around, looking for the private. From above, Honda leapt, soaring through the air, knife ready, then crashed down on the beast’s armored back. The Meganulon hissed in surprise, thrashing to get the human off it’s back. Honda wrapped his arms around the creature’s midsection, praying that he was not flung away. When the thrashing insect finally came to a stop, Honda raised his weapon high, yelling “Die bug!” before driving the knife down right between the segments of armor. Very deep. The Meganulon’s body went rigid as Honda buried his arm up to the elbow, driving the sharp knife through several organs, causing a pressurized stream of yellow blood to shoot into the air, spraying Honda. Finally, Honda climbed away as the Meganulon collapsed in a heap of brown and yellow. Breathing heavily, Honda watched the body of the insect for a moment, then turned, heading towards the distant, now visible lights of the damaged Tokyo. |

Story 2: Anguirus’ Journey Chapter 1: Recovery Anguirus plunged, barely conscious, into the cold waters of Tokyo bay, the cool temperatures soothing his super-heated wounds. Drifting out of his conscious mindset, Anguirus fell to the bottom of the bay, and fell into a peaceful sleep. Over a day later, Anguirus reawakened, feeling stronger, better. He sat at the bottom of the bay for a moment, then suddenly: RAGE! He felt fury beyond comprehension. Godzilla had beaten him…again! Not even remembering Godzilla’s act of mercy, Anguirus wasted no time in beginning to swim off in the direction in which he smelled Godzilla…north. Soon, Anguirus had a good bead on Godzilla’s direction, and set off full speed. From the murky waters below, Anguirus was being watched. |
