I just came across this one in one of my searches. Apparently, from what I can make out, it's a new German radio play that takes place in 1966 in Japan. It's obviously a loving tribute to Toho's classics, with characters like 'Dr. Tamblyn' and even a 'Serizawa Institute'. Those and it's Tohoesque score point that out. It even has some CGI visuals that were made for it of the kaiju[great looking stuff!!]. Some of you may recognize it's creator's name; Ralph Lorenz as the guy behind the still unfinished German 'King Kong' knock-off; "Kongula": http://kongula.de/ Here's the official website[the trailer's coming soon!!]: http://www.gualagon.de/index.htm and a banner of the film: http://www.gualagon.de/banner/gualagon_bigbanner.jpg and this is pretty interesting; an original concept artwork seems to imply that the creature is a conglomerate design of "Hedorah" and "Guilala"?? : http://www.monstercon.de/projekte/gualagon/gualagon_preview.jpg Also; here's a thread for it[in German as is most of the info-so you'll have to use BabelFish] from 'Kongula's Pranke[Kongula's Paw Magazine]: http://www.affengigant.de/kongulaspranke/viewtopic.php?t=3009 They're even saying that if it's successful enough then there may be a kit or comic or even a film. A little more: http://roberthood.net/blog/index.php/2008/07/26/gualagon/ Pretty cool huh??

Thanks!! He hasn't been successful in getting "Kongula" finished for lack of funds and creativity, but this one seems to be coming along much better. It's probably a much wiser decision to start the project out as a radio play first and then see where that takes him. I wish him a lot of luck. It really looks great so far!!

I can definitely see the similarity to Hedorah.

Now's our chance guys!!!! They're giving us a chance to let them know if we want 'GUALAGON' and they've given' us a better explanation of the project; on the official website there is now[at the left hand bottom corner] an option for English: "A hearty Hello to all of you international Kaiju Fans out there! We've noticed, that our Gualagon project has created a lot of interest in the community, so we decided to include this text on the website as well. First of all, let us clear up some missunderstandings. Gualagon will be a radioplay (although the term radioplay is not quite appropriate, since this will not be played on the radio, therefore we prefer the term audioplay) and not a movie. Apparently there had been two facts that led people to believe, that Gualagon will be a movie. Although it is correct that the main creative person behind the project is indeed the same Ralf Lorenz who helmed the (in)famous Kongula Movie Project, this time he decided to create and produce an audioplay. This was not done due to budgetary reasons, as some people believe, but because this time he wanted to make sure that he would have a team behind him to ensure the completion of the project. The other reason for people to think we would be doing a movie, was the button marked 'trailer'. There will be a trailer on our homepage soon, alas it will be an audio trailer only. Also there were reports that there will be a comicbook etc. for Gualagon. Neither a comicbook nor other variations of the project are planned right now. There was also speculation on an english version of the audioplay. Sorry to disappoint you again, but so far we are not considering this as anything that will happen soon, if ever. Of course we would love to do all those things, but at the moment our tight budget will not permit us to do so. However, we are considering to release the soundtrack seperately, including an english booklet, if there is enough demand for it. So send us an E-Mail: : kontakt@gualagon.de and let us know what you think." Speak now or forever hold your peace. Maybe, they'll except donations as well, since their budget seems to be the issue?? Anything you can offer would be of help. All it takes is one e-mail!!!! Edited by AVERY GUERRA, Aug 30 2008, 12:58 PM.

Avery I was looking over that "Kongula" web page. The image in which the giant ape was trapped in the iceberg below the surface looked very cool! It also got me thinking about something...actually a movie I seemed to have lost track of. About two years ago, and at the Monster Zero forums, I saw a member posted link about a movie called(I believe) "The Abominable": it featured a 60 foot tall malevolent white furred Yeti like monster. The poster(or image) I saw had the monster with a helo above him. It was going to be a "straight to video" kind of film, and was going to be featured on The Sci-Fi Channel. Have you heard of this movie? ![]() |

Ah yes, the notorious "THE ABOMINABLE"[2007] from 'CineExcel Ent.': http://www.cineexcel.com/home.html?yes=I+AGREE and: http://www.tarstarkas.net/blog/2007/02/23/the-cine-excel-megapost-part-1/ and: http://www.dreadcentral.com/reviews/abominable-the-2007 That's the most hilarious thing: I was actually checking out that first website this morning and a thread for it on 'KaijuPhile Forums'. It still has yet to be released. |

What's the best website, Avery, to monitor for a DVD release of The Abominable?

Most definitely 'Dread Central' and/or 'Foywonder's Live Journal'. Of course, if I hear of it releasing then you guys will know about it on the 'Undead BackBrain' as well.

I watched the dialup(56kb) trailer for this film. Obviously it's not going to blow anyone away but I like these kinds of movies. ![]() What usually holds up a DVD release of a movie like this? Finding a distributor?

Yeah exactly. I think that it was actually made to coincide with the Peter Jackson "KING KONG", but that it wasn't finished in time and kind of just missed it's cue. The few reviews that it has received haven't been too kind. I think that it looks like a great blast of cheese. I've been anxiously awaiting it's release. Of course, I usually love the underdog films that nobody else likes. You know, you could always e-mail the distributor for a screener copy. Just offer to promote it on your forum and all the others you're on. I get lots of free screeners from director's hoping for a scoop or interview from me. |

That's a good idea! I'm going to do just that. ![]() Edit: If I email them(cineexcel@msn.com) should I tell them I would like to promote the film first, here and elsewhere first, then ask for a "screeners" copy? Just trying to get an idea here how to best go about asking. |

Either way should work. I usually will post it on a lot of forums then send it out to websites that I have connections at, then compile all the links in 1 e-mail and send it to them to impress them. It usually works. Then, with the screener, I can take screen grabs, etc... to show to the fans and hopefully build up more interest in a film. I find, way too often, that some director's and distributors just really don't know how to promote the films they've made. Take for instance; "Birth Of A Legend: The Story Of The WAWA". The creators had several trailers and a few pics online, that all looked fun, but none of it's incredibly strange looking kaiju. I got my screener then told them that I wanted to do an interview, but under one condition; that they supply me with some screen grabs. I told them exactly which ones that were the "money shots" of the film. I have an eye for these sorts of things I'm told. Now as you can see in my interview: http://www.roberthood.net/reviews/interview-wawa.html I've made the film look way more exciting than any of these trailers ever did: http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=birth+of+a+legend+the+story+of+the+wawa&search_type= not to knock on any of those trailers though. They're all a lot of fun and make the film look like a really funny/fun Southern comedy and it really is. However, it's also a movie about a giant monster and it should be sold to that audience as well. I would imagine that it would easily become more successful being sold as a kaiju flick. There's just way too much competition in comedies and way too many that look funnier. |

Hey, don't feel bad if they don't respond. It would definitely be their loss. It could really use the promotion since nothings happening with it. I've actually contacted several distributors and not gotten responses before, even after representing myself with the websites that I work for. Most companies are happy and eager to respond for some free P.R., while others...I just don't get em'. Take for instance this one with the new kaiju film "AMPHIBIOUS"[2008]: http://www.halcyonpix.com/view.php?id=18 I've sent several e-mails with no response. However, I believe their reason is that they're not ready to release anything just yet. Still, a reply saying just that would be courteous huh??
