Hey, any talk of Sony releasing Godzilla movies on blu-ray?
The only film I've seen docketed for a Blu-Ray release, thus far, is the 1998 American Godzilla film. As a collector I'll buy it though I'm not admittedly excited about it at all.

I have seen nothing posted anywhere on the web, so far, about other G films being released on Blu-Ray.

So they've all been restored in HD? They really really need to release a box set with all of them on Blu-Ray here in America.

If they went through the trouble to restore these films to HD quality for an HD TV channel, then you'd have to think that a Blu Ray release is on the horizon. At least in Japan. And *hopefully* the US in the future.

I would assume there is enough of a cult following to get these films produced and a profit made off of them, but maybe not. I know quite a few of us fans would buy the films but since I'm not on the inside track of how much it costs to produce a blu-ray disc, I'm not sure how much Sony or another studio would have to invest in the production process.

If I lived in Japan, I would be interested on how they remastered and restored Gojira, King Kong vs. Godzilla, and G2K for they have the worst prints in terms of their Japanese versions.

I was thinking about this as well, I wonder if they came across some better prints or maybe cleaned up the older ones even more than when the DVD's were released.

I wonder if the KK VS. G print may be beter than the one used on the Universal DVD from 2 years ago that saddly was lost in the universal studio fire. If it is, I will be surprised. I want to move to JP and buy myself an HDTV, Blue Ray DVD recorder/player, and a bunch of blank Blu Ray discs...

But why are they remastering GINO?

Why wouldn't they? Despite being heavily criticized by fans and non-fans alike and often slammed at kaiju message boards Godzilla(1998) still generated over $398 million dollars worldwide in total box office receipts. The budget and advertising for this movie was in the $140-150 million range so the movie still turned a solid profit. I'm not at all surprised to see the '98 American Godzilla film get a Blu-Ray DVD release. winky
