If anyone knows something about the Kung-Fu genre of China' film industry, it is officialy screwed up. More titles are in public domain thn anything and if you watch certaint films you get bad prints and no traces of special features or any backround on half of the movies. I am talking of films like Dragon Lee vs. The Five Brothers or Clash of the Iron Fists. But one film in the lte 90's came out of the kung fu hell hole and actualy gained a reputation that would be almost equal to films like "Enter the Dragon", "36 Chambers of Shaolin", "Drunken Master", or even the masterfull "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon" and that was the seuel to the already popular "One Armed Boxer", "Master of the Flying Guillotine", made by Jimmy Wang Yu.![]() Plot: During the last dynasty of China, the Manchu-Ching Dynasty, Ming Revolutionary boxers were a problem. But one of them, who was the infamous one armed boxer, killed two deciples of China's best user of a dreaded weapon, the flying Guillotine. So the revenge is on as China gets rocked, especialy when the master gets some help from martial arts masters from other countries... The reason this film is so respected is that this is counted as the best film done by Jimmy Wang Yu, who is a popular martial arts film maker. And since it's release, it was plaged by a normal curse from Kung Fu Cinema hell: public domain. This was because of legal issues with the films soundtrack, with all music actualy being used illegaly. But even under public domain the film was not seen that often since they though Megalon would be better to release. But in 2000, Pathfinder pictures found the film and released it onto DVD. But when the 20th annerversary DVD release came along, new 35mm prints were found of american and chinese versions of the film and something rare abong Jimmy Wang Yu - special features. Normaly, it would only have an audio commentary and a trailer. But this film was a special case. And this film gained quick cult success in America, including Quientin Tarantino using the film in his novel about true love in screenplay format and a tribute in Kill Bill Vol. 1. I personaly love this film. Though it has not come on TV for a long time. Kick Ass soundtrack, whic has been paid for by Pathfinder and a great cult fallowing, this film is famous and is a favorite, and is actualy criticaly good. What do you think of this film? |

I have never seen this film. I do like martial arts movies so I will try to find reviews and a trailer for this one. Could be a DVD purchase by the end of the year. |

Ok, but do not expect good pic quality. Like I said, this film was in Kung-Fu Cinema hell for awhile. We got lucky a 2.35:1 non-anamorphic print was made, but because it was made of 10+ diffrent prints edited togeather, it is not going to look the best. But I will say this: this film is in my top 5 kung Fu films - and I have seen alot. |

Hey! That's Bolo from Enter the Dragon. And I thought he was just a good paid extra. But that trailer is not impressive. To me, it screamed Chuck Noriss. Master of the Flying Guillotine is better looking: Here is the first part of the film. Watch this please, because on the soundtrack it has the collest kung fu music theme: Here is the international trailer: |
