Blu-Ray DVD player prices, now averaging about $200 in the U.S., appear primed to drop again in the near future. Why? Click to the link to find out: http://www.pcworld.com/article/163395/cheap_blu_ray_players_expected.html?tk=rss_news

Hopefully the quality isn't sacrificed too much in these Chinese players. Nice to see a chance for people on tighter budgets to go blu, but it will be for the worse if the players all break down withing 3 or 4 months.

The Blu-ray release of Star Trek: The Original Series season 1 looks awesome. I wish I had a player and an HD tv set.

It would appear that owners of Blu-Ray players with BD-live capability may one day be able to use their Blu-Ray machines for video-on-demand service, which will utilize a special software: http://www.blu-ray.com/news/?id=2630

Whoa. Well, i'll be picking this up. The bigger question now is will the other Godzilla movies that CM released be far behind in terms of seeing a Blu Ray release? And if Sony will release any of their Godzilla titles to Blu Ray?

I'm seriously thinking about buying a stand alone Blu Ray player, but I need one that will also play DVD-R's and Data DVD's/CD's like my PS3. Anyone have any suggestions?

I can't recommend a specific Blu-Ray player, Russ but I can recommend two models to avoid if you're going to use this machine to play DVD-R's: the Samsung model BD-P1400 and Samsung BD-P1500. I have a BD-P1400 that will NOT play DVD-R's. A friend of mine has a BD-P1500 that will not play any of his DVD-R's or DVD-R's from his camcorder.

Russ, you may want to check out the Blu-Ray.com website, even start a topic in the forums(after registering) about this. winky

Nice but I wonder how much of an improvement it will be over the regular DVD. Either way I'll pick it up just out of support.

Some major Toho kaiju films are coming to Blu-Ray DVD, including Mothra(1961), Rodan(1956), Godzilla Final Wars(2004) and Godzilla Vs Biollante(1989). These discs are all region free.

Links-

Godzilla Final Wars(2004): http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=TBR-19162D

Godzilla Vs Biollante(1989): http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=TBR-19161D

Mothra(1961): http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=TBR-19163D

Rodan(1956): http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/detailview.html?KEY=TBR-19164D

All of these titles are scheduled for release on 9/18/09 and will retail for about $58 plus shipping in U.S. currency. They are, as far as I can tell, in Japanese audio only with no English subtitles.
