Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. K, this year I got...

1. $75 in cash and checks.
2. Weather calendar.
3. http://www.amazon.com/Alfred-Hitchcock-Legend-Begins-Classics/dp/B000UVV25Q/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1230245308&sr=8-1
4. Everglades Alligator Mouse pad.
5. Stainless Steel Water Bottle

Stocking Stuffers: 2 Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Kit Kat Bar, Spicy Cheetos, 2 Multigrain Granola Bars.

A couple of other family gifts, like our first toaster oven. I think that covers it. Not bad really. In a way, I prefer it when I get cash. That way I can spend it the way I please. But it also sort of lessens the enjoyment of getting stuff when you just buy it yourself and it's no surprise.

Great to hear you got a Blu-Ray DVD player: you're going to be very pleased at how Blu-Ray looks! You might want to "bookmark" this site: http://www.blu-ray.com

Be sure to check for firmware updates for your Blu-Ray player. winky
Thanks for the bookmark, Lee. I see that my Blu-Ray player has the latest software. However, how exactly do you update the software from your computer to the DVD player? Is it done via a USB cable or something?

I see that my Blu-Ray player has the latest software. However, how exactly do you update the software from your computer to the DVD player? Is it done via a USB cable or something?
You can install firmware updates to your Blu-Ray player two ways, Dan: by downloading the firmware file(usually a zip file), extracting the zip file contents and then "burning" the file to a blank disc, a CD-R, which you would then load into the tray of your player. Your player would display message prompts telling you how to download the disc contents.
You can also connect your Blu-Ray DVD player directly to your internet connection via the LAN port which should be on the back of the player. If you have a broadband internet connection, Dan, you should also have some kind of modem(or "gateway", also sometimes referred to as a router)-you would connect the "ethernet" cable to the LAN(or ethernet) port on the back of your Blu-Ray player. This LAN port will resemble a phone jack and should be marked "LAN"(an acronym for Local Area Connection).

I just download the firmware update from Samsumg's website, a zip file, then extract the contents(which is then usually in ISO file format) and copy(burn) the file to a CD-R. Then I insert the CD-R containing the firmware update into my Samsung Blu-Ray player and wait for the prompts.

Refer to the instruction manual on your player as well. winky

Nearly all of the firmware updates for my Blu-Ray player are for improved playback compatibility.

Dan, you should look for the home website of the manufacturer of your player, then do a search of the model number of your machine, which should lead you to the appropriate page you can bookmark and monitor for future updates.

Oops, yeah Wii I meant. Although it would be funny if Nintendo sold the rights to DKC and it went multiplatform. It was pretty weird when that happened to Sonic, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, and to a lesser extent Banjo Kazooie.

Well not as much as I'd hoped. I did get three blu-rays earlier this month for a Secret Santa thing at the film forum I'm part of.

Late Post topper:

Are you going to put up a Christmas tree this year? Will it be a live or artificial tree?
I had one one up, I help my grandma with it and it is artificial.

Do you go caroling?
A do not

Do you have large family gatherings at Christmas?
We usually do but this year wasn't so large

What are you hoping to get from "Santa" this year?
My grandmother and my mom bought my the Complete Texas Walker series with a par of pants. Other relatives gave me money and my "birth" dad gave me a blanket.

Will you be giving out lots of presents to family and friends?
We had a small amount of people to give to but yes to some extent.

Will you be doing any travelling(out of state) this Christmas?
Nope, my entire family lives here in Kentucky

Do you have any Christmas traditions?
Just go over to my other grandparents house.

How do you decorate for Christmas in your residence?
A tree, some garland and all my nutcrackers ( :D !!). I have a entire box of nutcrackers that I saved/gathered through the years, I usually add one or two to my collection each year. My favorite one is a mouse with a sword topper

What's your favorite Christmas movie?
A Year Without Santa Claus (1974)
A Miser Brothers' Christmas (2008)
How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)

Do you prepare(cook) any special Christmas cuisine this time of year?
I do not cook too well nono

I'm still waiting to open the actual presents. But so far I've gotten a $20 check from my employer in a Christmas card and another $20 from my aunt and uncle.

STOCKING STUFFERS:
-- Some sort of vegan meat stick (yeah... not sure if I'm eating that or not)
-- A bag of milk chocolate truffles (definitely eating these... I love these things).
-- An unusual-looking new toothbrush with some features I've never seen in a toothbrush before.
-- A small packet of Candycane Cocoa hot chocolate mix (apparently it includes bits of real peppermint candycane, which might negatively affect my enjoyment of the hot chocolate).
-- A container of Ice Breaker mints (I like having gum and mints on hand at all times).

I managed to snag a janitorial job and started working at the beginning of November. It's very part-time (around 5 or 6 hours cleaning a government building every Monday), and fairly low-paying, and I hope to find something better soon. But having the experience to put on my resume is going to be helpful, and it's been nice to have a bit of cash to put aside for filmmaking, hobbies, and social occasions.

CHRISTMAS UPDATE:
-- A nice 2012 Moonscapes calendar with a collection of landscape shots featuring the moon.
-- A brand new, windproof Zippo lighter. I use to have one of these, but it stopped working for some reason and now I have no idea where it is. I'm not a smoker, but I love the old-fashioned style of a Zippo lighter. I'll be keeping the lighter close to my sealed pack of cigars (Stogies), which I'm saving for "when the fat lady sings".
-- $25 in cash from my grandparents and aunt.

A small haul this year, but my family and relatives are starting to realize that my brothers and I prefer cash over gifts anyway. And the gifts that I did get were smart choices by my parents who generally know me well enough to know what I like.
