I like movie trailers. Always have. Always will. As such I have incorporated them, via YouTube, into my domain, Monsterland, where they will appear on the main(home) page. Well, I have finally had a breakthrough, of sorts, in my quest to understand, and master, image manipulation. I purchased today a program that converts Photoshopped files(PSD) and converts them to gif, jpg, and other "Imageshack" upload-friendly formats(PSD files cannot be uploaded as is by Imageshack and/or Photobucket). I have also learned how to add simple text to these image manipulations, though I have not learned(yet) how to do brighter, bolder, and more colorful text installations on these images. That is forthcoming. I am also trying to get Invisionfree tech support to assist me in correcting some kind of mistake I'm making when I attempt to install a new "default" skin. For now the old "Black and neon" colored default skin has been removed, replaced by the simple, light colored Invisionfree default skin. When I have fixed my error regarding a new default skin I will load another one up-I tend to favor dark skins, mostly dark blues, black and with the occasional hues of purple and red. For now the "Skin Changer" feature near the top/center of the site main page will remain. I have installed my first official banner-basic but to the point, featuring Godzilla from Destroy All Monsters(1968). I am going to try and "tweak" the text of this banner in the next few days. These things I post about here may sound inconsequential, redundant, and somewhat banal to many of you but I spent the better part of this afternoon trying to pound out a successful image manipulation. Bear in mind that much of my ignorance comes from being, compared to many of you, a relative newcomer to the internet. One thing I am always doing is working at making myself more proficient with functions, programs, and features on the web. Lee "Packmule" Merritt |

As the end of the year 2007 approaches(it's only about 10 weeks away) I have decided to try and add another staffer to this site. Monsterland Forums will reach 13,000 posts by the end of this year, an increase of 1726 posts over last year's post total of 5637. The number of registrations has grown by 13 members this year, which seems like a low number but considering I have only been actively advertising this site for about the last six weeks it's, IMO, respectable. There are currently three(3) admins here: myself, Kimi D.("KaijuFanatic") and Dan B.("Ro-Dan"). Kimi and Dan are both people I trust with this site and it's continued existence in the event something were to happen to me, short or long term, that would prevent me from accessing the internet. I would like to add another staffer, with admin status, who can help promote this site on the internet, assist me with anything board related, as it arises, and generally help with posting until MF can get more posting activity from those who have registered. Before advertising for another staffer I would like to extend to anyone here who may be interested a chance to talk with me about the opening by PM or by replying in this topic thread. I'm not looking for experience. I am looking for someone who would be active here and committed to helping advertise and "drive" this site along with posts. At this point posting and helping out by advertising at other sites are the two criteria I need help most in. I have run this site on my own for the most part, with the exception of Dan and Kimi, who backstopped me in January of this year(a computer hard drive crash) and in July(when I changed residences). They should both know I am and always will be grateful for that. Working this site on my own is, unfortunately, wearing me down. As many of you know I work full time M-F. I am usually out the door at 6:45 AM every weekday AM and I don't get home until 4:15 PM. My day job, as a professional landscape foreman, tires me out, and at age 45 I can tell you I tire out more quickly nowadays. I put in time at this site nightly, in addition to trying to advertise it at other sites. I also put in considerable time on weekends here, though admittedly not as much lately. If I get no replies from anyone here about this staffer position I will advertise it on several other support/services boards that I post at, which affiliate/advertise this site. Gaining active members here at Monsterland Forums is going to be an uphill battle, given the number of quality and high profile general discussion boards on the internet, and given the number of quality sites that are horror/sci-fi themed with their own forums. I would like to see this site ultimately range from 100-125 members within the next two years with an average daily post activity in the 40-50 post range, or a little higher. Right now Monsterland Forums averages about 17-18 posts per day, half of them mine. This time last year it was about the same although the number of registered members was smaller, and the posting activity was basically confined to about three people, unlike the half dozen active members we have now. This site has made progress, just not enough, IMO, and much of that is due to my own failings in knowing how to advertise this site and also how to make this forum look more visually appealing. Sorry for the rambling. I'm going to advertise the staffer position in 2-3 weeks, assuming I don't here from anyone here. Those who are PM me or reply in this thread. Josh and Matthew, I'm going to make both of you moderators for this site. You have both been reasonably active at Monsterland Forums which I appreciate. I would rather "promote from within" our ranks, as opposed to trying to hire someone who is not a member here. I will make the appropriate changes to both of your profiles here. As moderators you will have topic moderation options at your disposal, such as moving/deleting/editing topics and you will also be able to issue warnings to members based on infractions touched on in the Board Rules thread of MF. Any suspension and/or banishment of anyone here would still be my responsibility. As moderators I only ask two things of you: 1) try to remain active, to some degree here and 2) if you are unsure about anything regarding your moderation options then ask me, or Dan B for help, by PM. As far as advertising you could, here and there, try and advertise this site through a simple sig advertisement at other boards you post in. I'm not going to get hung up on this. The truth is I think the overall growth of this site will mostly come through referral anyway. Thanks to both of you, Josh and Matthew. I'm glad both o you joined our community here. If you have any more questions/comments about my post here use this topic thread to reply, if you want. Many thanks for making this banner, which I think looks great! I want to ask you a favor, and this is only if you can make this adjustment within the graphic program you're using: can you make the banner read "Monsterland"(one word) instead of "Monster Land"? Not trying to be picky here. I'm going to use your banner anyway but I thought I'd ask. My policy as admin of this site is to use any and all banner submission made by members as a way of "showing off" that person's work. Thank you again. :) thumbs up |

Exactly! Fantastic! I have Photoshop 7.0 in my computer but beyond basic image manipulation I'm limited as to what I can do. I'm trying to learn but with my schedule it isn't easy to make the time. In the future if I come up with anything image wise I might want to try and use I'll send it to you for your inspection. Thanks again kitten! :) |
