I have installed a code that will enable members to access the emoticons, either by clicking them or by "dragging and dropping", when using the "Fast Reply" option. There are occasions when I'd like to use an emoticon with this option hence why I installed this code.

I have also installed a "Bot catch" link, at the bottom of the main index page, which should help in minimizing(or hopefully eliminating) spam bot registrations at this site.

Within the last few days I have been contacted, by PM, at other message boards, and by MF members Godzilla2000master and Jack da King, both members stating that they are having problems accessing this message board. Unfortunately I have no solution for either of these two members on my end, as the admin cp settings were examined by Zetaboards staff, and with no errors. I have been told by ZB support staff that ANYONE having an access problem with this message board should run a "trace route", using "s15.zetaboards.com" as the targeted URL(domain). Anyone who is unfamiliar with how to do a trace route(or ping test) can Google "trace route in Windows", which will show you links with instructions on how to run this test, which will measure your computer's ability to access the domain "s15.zetaboards.com". You can also contact your ISP(Internet Service Provider) or Windows's customer service phone number and ask for assistance in performing a "trace route" on the domain "s15.zetaboards.com".

Should "time outs" or other interruptions appear during and at the conclusion of a trace route, then that is an indication that something is blocking your computer from accessing this site. The problem could be:

-a damaged or partially malfunctioning web browser
Possible solution: re-install a new download of the browser you're using

-a firewall or security setting in your computer
Possible solution: carefully examine your computer's security settings and adjust them accordingly. If you're not sure how to do this consult your computer's operating system troubleshooting guide before making ANY changes to your security settings.

Other tips:

-perform a disk defrag of your computer's files
-turn off and restart your computer
-go to your computer's control panel and enter "Internet Connections": delete your browsing history, cookies(which are small text files in your computer) and other temp files

Miscellaneous: last year Monsterland Forums member KaijuFanatic had some access issues with this message board that were, I believe, related to her computer, specifically her browser.

Those members here using dialup for internet access may encounter an issue accessing various websites from time to time. Again, consult your ISP or your computer manufacturer as applicable.

It's obviously important to me that every member of Monsterland Forums be able to access this board at their leisure. Any member having an access issue should notify me at one of the following two email addresses, which I check daily:

merritt.84@hotmail.com
or
lm5906@bellsouth.net

Once I have been contacted I will begin a process to examine and attempt to discover any issue on my end that would need to be fixed, to include Zetaboards tech support staff accessing this site as needed to consult my admin cp and any subsequent recommendations.

In the event the access issue is NOT something on my end, but rather the member's computer, I will continue to assist in any way I know of to effect the member's return access to this board as quickly as possible.

Anyone with any question or comment regarding this post please contact me by PM. winky

A recent board access issue encountered by various members here has been linked to a "multi-quote" coded modification installed by ZB admins at their sites, including myself.
Zetaboards tech support site received complaints from members of other ZB message boards and determined that this modification conflicts with the security settings of various Windows OS and in turn has been conflicting with all Internet Explorer(IE) browsers. I learned of this today after getting off from work and logging in at ZB support to check my personal support ticket replies. I have immediately removed this modification from the admin control panel of this site so any member who has been experiencing an access issue should not have any problem logging in now.

My apologies for this inconvenience to any member affected and my sincere thanks to "Nicola", one of Zetaboards' tech support staffers who "diagnosed" this problem.

In my ongoing efforts to promote Monsterland Forums I have added this message board to a large listing of boards called the "Admin Zone Directory". Our listing can be found here: http://www.theadminzone.com/directory/Entertainment/Movies-and-Filmmaking/

I would encourage any members here to post a comment about MF at this listing(good or bad winky ) because it will help in our board "ranking" which is based on official "clicks"(visits).

Thanks. azz

In the overnight hours of early Sunday AM(12-14) both Invisionfree and Zetaboards hosted message boards experienced a DNS issue of some kind, which would prevent access to any IF or ZB message board. The problem appears to have ended but there may be lingering access issues with some trying to access these boards.

This was posted by Brandon(the creator of IF and ZB) this morning at the combined IF/ZB site:

Quote:

There was a short DNS outage in the past hour for both InvisionFree and ZetaBoards. The problem should be resolved now, but we will be keeping an eye on it.
Due to the nature of DNS, the outage may still affect you for some servers, depending on your ISP and computer settings, but it should resolve itself soon

Any member who has any problem accessing Monsterland Forums please email me at packmule84@yahoo.com.

Thanks.

A message board was recently shut down by the Zetaboards/Invisionfree staff for violating the "Prohibited content" of the site's TOS, or Terms Of Service. The violation included the posting of pornography despite repeated warnings to the site's founder not to.

The TOS is a set of guidelines that have been established by Zathyus Networks, parent entity of Zetaboards and Invisionfree hosting services, to ensure that a certain standard of behavior is maintained at all ZB and IF message boards.

As a reminder to every member here, this is a list of things that are included in the "Prohibited Content" part of the TOS for Monsterland Forums, which is a Zetaboards hosted site:

1. Content that infringes upon any rights (including, but not limited to, copyrights and trademarks)

2. Abusive, threatening, defamatory, racist, or obscene Content

3. Viruses or any other harmful computer software

4. False information or libel

5. Spam, chain letters, or pyramid schemes

6. Gambling or Illicit drugs

7. Terrorism

8. Hacking or cheating for internet/online games

9. Warez, Roms, CD-Keys, Cracks, Passwords, or Serial Numbers

10. Pornography, nudity, or sexual material of any kind

11. Excessive profanity

12. Content that is invasive of privacy or impersonation of any person/entity

13. Hacking materials or information.

I would encourage anyone who does not fully understand any of the above list to email or PM me and I'll be glad to try and clarify them further. As the site founder I am ultimately responsible for maintaining the TOS of Monsterland Forums but I need the continued support and cooperation of every member of MF to do that. Thanks in advance to all of you for that support! Mr. Smiles

Very few IF/ZB message boards have ever been shut down but it does happen. winky

In recent weeks I have seen some absolutely enormous sig images used here at this message board. I haven't, thus far, established any sig image size parameters...until now.

Any member wishing to use a large sig image may do so, provided the image is no larger than 600 x 200 pixels: 600 pixels in width and 200 pixels in height.

Any member who wants to use two(2) sig images may also do that, provided each image is no larger than 500 x 150 pixels, that is 500 pixels in width and 150 pixels in height.

These sig image size parameters may get "tweaked" by me in the future but not by much.

Larger images can result in the bulging out of board index pages, making it very difficult for other members to read the post content of that distorted page.

These size parameters are put in place by me in fairness to , and for the benefit of, every member here at Monsterland Forums.

Any member wanting to use an image that is larger than the above guidelines may send me the URL(link) to the image and I'll gladly re-size it for them using Photoshop 7.0(in my computer).

There will be no disciplinary action by me regarding any member who installs a sig image larger than what I have stipulated here. I will, however, delete the image if I see it. winky

Any member with any comment or question about these sig image size rules please PM me.

Many thanks!

The month of April, 2009 was the slowest month in terms of posting activity at this message board in over a year. We generated about 1900 posts for April, way down from our 2600 post per month average for the year 2008. I want to first thank those members who continue to post at Monsterland Forums. I appreciate that. thumbz up

Many of our members here work full time(myself included) and therefore cannot, and justifiably I might add, post here as often as they'd like. As long as this message board generates around 1500 posts per month I will continue to perform my obligation as its "caretaker", so to speak. MF may drop below this and that's alright. Were that to happen I would look at restarting more aggressive advertising of this board.

For now I would like to encourage every member here to simply "put the word out" about Monsterland Forums wherever and whenever you can while you're on the web, especially if you're logged in at other sites. Those of you with blogs, websites and memberships at other message boards would be doing me a real favor by posting of text link of our community in your sigs. winky

I will be adding a few emoticons and avatars to our custom avatar galleries during the summer, as well as a new board theme(or two). Aside from these things there will be no changes overall to the site through the summer months and probably the rest of this year.

Thanks again to everyone who participates in our online community. Mr. Smiles

I have installed another stellar forum banner, prominently featuring both King Ghidorah and Hedorah, with a "cameo" appearance by '95 Gamera in the background, this banner made by "Xstinct", the site founder of GFXFactor(his site URL: http://gfxfactor.com ). I would recommend that anyone needing a sig, banner or other related graphic solicit "Xstinct" or a member of his board called "Itachi69", both of whom make stellar graphics. Registering at GFXFactor.com would be required before making any graphic requests. This new forum banner is on display with several of our board themes(skins) in the skin selector feature at the bottom left of the board main index pages.

I have removed the "Affiliates" web page link from Monsterland Forums, for the time being. I never "affiliated" with many sites anyway and felt this feature was generally unnecessary. I have installed, as image links, three(3) 88x31 pixels advert buttons at the bottom of the main index page for boards that I continue to post at, and would recommend others would enjoy posting at as well: Kaiju Galaxy, Semiotic and GFXFactor.com.

heyo

While I'm pleased you like the new banner, Evan I'm also curious as to why you believe it to be an "improvement" over the previous banner for the "Byte" theme(and several others). It was, after all, made by the same person, "Xstinct" at GFXFactor.

Monsterland Forums moderator "josh TX" is now an administrator for this message board. Josh has been an exemplary member, and presence around here and I have come to welcome, and greatly appreciate his loyalty to me and my efforts at keeping this message board active with posting activity.

I would also like to thank every member here who has been active: your participation here is greatly valued!

Thanks to Evan, aka "G2KMaster" who has started up a Google blog, on behalf of Donny Winter's Kaiju Galaxy forums. This blog will feature articles about various movies. thumbz up

After logging this afternoon I noticed several gigantic spam images, black in color with white text and repeated references to "anti-sec". This problem is, to my understanding, a problem with "ImageShack" and IS NOT a Zetaboards technical issue.

I don't know specifically what ImageShack is doing about it but I have been told they're aware of this problem.

Here's a link to a topic made about this issue at the combined ZB/IF support/services board: http://if.invisionfree.com/topic/5057342/1/#new

This post is FYI for all of this community's members.

Last night(Wednesday evening) an individual "hacked" into a blog founded by a member of my staff. The blog, called "Journalism G2K", was created by our own community member G2KMaster.

G2K's blog was compromised and the hacker installed pornographic images of elderly men performing oral sex on each other. This individual has ruined other blogs/message boards in like manner and has, at a phBB board he started up recently, threatened to "mess up" Donny Winter's Kaiju Galaxy board as well.

There's no doubt that Monsterland Forums may become a target for this person's actions as well. Consequently, I have decided to make two changes to Monsterland Forums, regarding the security of our community:

1. guests, that is, those looking over MF who are not registered members, will NOT be able to see the main pages of our community.

2. I have suspended, indefinitely, ALL new member registrations. I realize this particular change obviously prevents any new member registrations and I make this change with great disdain. Still, the security of this board, which I have worked hard to build and continuously improve, is ultimately my responsibility.

I would like to ask ALL members of Monsterland Forums to re-check your passwords. The ONLY way this site can be compromised is if someone correctly guess a member's password. Passwords should have ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with any themes of this message board community. Examples of poor passwords might be "Godzilla" or "monster" or other simple words that are commonly used around our board.

Passwords should be something that ONLY the member using them can remember. A good password might be a person's old nickname from school, or something else completely unrelated to this board.

If any member of this community has ANY questions about the quality of their own passwords, please email me or PM me.

For security purposes there will be NO username changes granted to any members right now and into the foreseeable future.
