Welcome to MONSTERLAND FORUMS! We are a casual and friendly online community of movie fans who like to talk about giant monsters, horror and sci-fi in cinema, on television and on Blu Ray/DVD. There are forums for sports, casual chat and video games as well. For those of you who like making art, writing stories and creating videos, our community includes a forum for these submissions as well. Check out our main index page and other board forums! Anyone is welcome to join our community!

MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

More on the Krakatoa volcanic eruption: http://www.earlham.edu/~bubbmi/krakatoa.htm

The final blast from this eruption is one of the largest explosions to occur on Earth, it's energy equivalent to 21,000 Hiroshima A-bombs. The shock wave from this final blast, at just past 10:00 AM on August 27, 1883, circled the Earth seven times, and was recorded on sensors over four thousand miles away. The series of eruptions blasted twenty one cubic miles of rock, ash and other ejecta into Earth's atmosphere, all of which affected regional climates in the surrounding areas for many years. These eruptions also generated tidal waves, some of which reached 40 meters in height(132 feet), these enormous waves killing thousands of people.

On Sunday, March 29, 2009 at 8 PM EST, The History Channel is going to broadcast a documentary called "Predator X". The documentary chronicles the discovery, near the North Pole, of a new species of prehistoric predator(dinosaur) that was five times the weight of a Tyrannosaurus Rex. The fossilized remains of this super sized creature are dug up by a team of paleontologists from a university in Oslo(Norway). April 13, 2029: is this a day to mark on your calendar? Maybe or maybe not. Regardless, on this date an asteroid the size of a twenty five(25) story building will pass within 18,000 miles of Earth, which is closer than many of Earth's communications satellites that are currently in orbit: http://news.aol.com/article/asteroid-apophis/426922?icid=main|main|dl8|link6|http%3A%2F%2Fnews.aol.com%2Farticle%2Fasteroid-apophis%2F426922

Scientists say this asteroid, called "Apophis", will also pass close to Earth seven years later in 2036.

Oh yeah. I watched some of that. I sort of lost interest when I learned that it was just an aquatic creature, though. Lipleurodon still dwarfs this Predator X when it comes to aquatic predators.

Oh yeah. I've heard about this. I admire astronauts, and I wish I could be one someday. So initially I wanted to trust him. But after hearing a bit more about him, I'm not sure if I can.

The phenomena of "Bigfoot" is also, turns out, prevalent in the country of Australia as well. The alleged creature is called the "Yowie" in the land down under. Read more: http://robojapan.blogspot.com/2009/05/researcher-hopes-flooding-will-flush.html

Napster, why don't you try finding some interesting articles on the internet about science and posting them in this thread. That is what the topic of this thread is for. I don't mind you, or any other member, posting a reply to an article I post but I'd also like to see you provide some article links of your own in this topic. Thanks. winky

Wait, I thought that we hadn't achieved absolute zero in the laboratory yet. But in this article they say that this probe is only 0.1 degrees away from absolute zero, and yet they say that we can achieve much colder temperatures in the laboratory. I've always wondered what would happen to an object that reaches absolute zero. Would the atoms in its structure cease to vibrate? And what would happen then?

Interesting. So I guess I was somewhat right. It is impossible to reach absolute zero, or if it is, it's still impossible to achieve zero motion.

A recent episode of MonsterQuest all about Killer Jellyfish mentioned this disconcerting phenomenon. For me, it's just one more reason I will never swim in the ocean.

And by the way. They figured out what that big biomass was.

Scientists have long been perplexed by what caused a die off of early human life and other animal life about 12,000 years ago. Now scientists believe small comet impacts in eastern Canada may have caused this extinction event. Read more: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32015174/ns/technology_and_science-science/

Whether it be divine in nature, or something more similar to the human race, I'm inclined to agree. We can't be the only intelligent life in the universe.

Planets normally orbit their "host" stars in the same direction that the stars rotate...except for one planet that is, which was recently discovered by scientists. For more on this planet and it's "backwards" orbit click the link: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/32391095/ns/technology_and_science-space/&GT1=43001
