Anyone is welcome to join our community!

MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

And why do you believe it authentic? I looked at a documentary not too long ago that made a case that it was indeed authentic because of the way the "creature" walked. It was postulated, and established through a re-enactment with a guy in a suit, that a person in a suit couldn't have walked the same way the thing in the Patterson footage did. Is this one of the reasons why you believe it to be authentic? heyo
Yeah, that's one of the reasons. After seeing some documentaries on the subject, I've been convinced that it would have been impossible for a human being to replicate the creature by wearing a suit. The materials needed for such a suit did not exist at the time. The proportions do not fit a human being, and the gait is physically impossible for a human to pull off.

I'd never heard anything about either Roger Patterson or Bob Gimlin claiming that it was a hoax. But maybe I missed it.

After doing some research myself it appears neither Gimlin or Patterson EVER said it was a hoax...but another man came forward to say he was hired to wear a gorilla suit for Roger Patterson: http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=37507

It was this article I saw but my recollection was obviously shaky. Despite this man's claim he wore a gorilla suit others dispute what he says.

Reading all these "Bigfoot" articles and all the contradictory statements by those interviews makes me wish they'd just find a damn Sasquatch carcass already. loco2

Same here. They never seem to find anything truly substantial. And yet at the same time, there's enough evidence to make me wonder if there's something to it.

The term "UFO", an acronym for Unidentified Flying Object, is obviously one that paranormal investigators and those interested in unexplained phenomena(like myself) are well familiar with. After yesterday I became familiar with another, and related acronym: "USO", which refers to unidentified submerged object. I watched a documentary on the History Channel that delves into alleged sightings of disc shaped objects entering, and exiting, various bodies of water around the world, including our planet's major oceans. Some of the documentary, part of the "UFO Files" series, also included alleged eyewitness accounts, some of which were officially documented, by U.S. Navy personnel who were on warships and saw these things. Read more on USO's by clicking the link: http://www.crystalinks.com/usos206.html

Gregg, here's the documentary on USO's I watched: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5915586075736046554&ei=MwM2S6-3D4nKqgLSyNXyCw&q=USO%27s&hl=en&client=firefox-a#

Here's a video I found that includes some daylight footage of alleged UFOs. Gregg, pay particular attention to the first and thirdl bits of footage...the last one which shows the object hover over the river and then zoom away. Thoughts on this footage? Is it real or is it Memorex? tongue-2

The video: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5915586075736046554&ei=MwM2S6-3D4nKqgLSyNXyCw&q=USO%27s&hl=en&client=firefox-a#docid=1777256516361992199

I've also been re-visiting a lot of videos on tsunamis and mega tsunamis, giant waves generated by earthquakes and landslides. Ever wondered what a mega tsunami striking a major coastal city would look like? Check out this video, which depicts a 15 story tall wall of water inundating New York City and washing inland for two miles:

The USO documentary was interesting. I'd heard only a little bit about the subject before. So it was good to get a bit of familiarity with the subject. Probably the most interesting parts to me were the accounts of USOs from Columbus and Alexander the Great.

The daylight UFO footage is really hard to decipher. I couldn't even begin to decide whether it's real or not yet.

The Russian government is mulling an attempt to deflect an asteroid in space that the Russians believe may strike the Earth. NASA has said the chances of the 885 foot wide asteroid colliding with Earth are slim. Still, the Russians believe an effort to alter the course of the asteroid may be warranted. For more info on the asteroid, and what Russia may do to try and deflect the trajectory of the asteroid, click the link: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/eu_russia_asteroid_encounter

An 885 foot asteroid would weigh, I think about 40-50 million tons, especially if it's made of iron-nickel, a heavy substance. Imagine, Gregg the potential energy release of an 885 foot, 50 million ton piece of space rock impacting the surface of the Earth at anywhere from 5000-10,000 MPH? Such a collision on land would be the equivalent of perhaps five hundred Hiroshima A-bombs. Were this asteroid to slam into a major ocean(the Atlantic, Pacific or Indian Oceans) the resulting surface surge would be about 150 feet tall, these giant waves radiating outwards at speeds in excess of 500 MPH: as these surges approach land they begin slowing down and increasing in height. The run up heights of these tsunamis, depending on the topography of the waters off those coastlines, would range anywhere from 500-1000 feet., these gigantic walls of water surging inland for tens of miles.

The thought of something like that happening always used to freak me out when I was little. Especially after seeing that Deep Impact movie. I'm not on the coast, but I'm too close for comfort. At least if an asteroid did impact Earth, we'd probably have a fair amount of warning before it happened, giving everyone a chance to evacuate the endangered areas.

Just what is the "Michigan Dogman"? Check out this video and judge yourself:

I've seen some speculation that the thing in the above video is a wolverine, even a large, wild dog. I don't think it's a wolverine because it's too large. The creepy part is it's movements remind me of both an ape and a dog. shokked

Here's the entire "Gable film" footage of the alleged "Michigan Dogman":

Yeah I remember when the Gable footage came out a while back. I'm still not sure what to make of it. Looks like some kind of gorilla. It's hard for me to imagine that it could be faked. If it is a fake, it's a very impressive fake.

Awesome photo. But I'm torn on its legitimacy. Upon close inspection, I got the impression that it could be a fake. The wolfman creature feels a little out of place. Like the lighting and shading is wrong or something. Still, it looks awesome. I hope it's real.

The way it's filmed, it could easily be a guy in a suit. But heck, there's no way to know for sure unless the hoaxer outright admits to it.

Trent, I Googled "what will life be like in a thousand years" because I've been mulling buying an Arthur C. Clarke novel called 3001. winky

Giantism in the animal kingdom has always been a point of fascination with me. I came across this article today about "Ralph", recently designated the world's largest rabbit. This lepus weighs in at forty two pounds and is over two feet tall. The huge rabbit resides in Britain and is owned by Pauline Grant. Ralph is, unbelievably, still growing as he is only eighteen months old. Read more: http://www.reviewstl.com/ralph-the-rabbit-worlds-biggest-bunny-42-pounds-two-feet-0221/

I was reading that same article earlier today, it's kind of crazy and cool that an earthquake (and a tsunami for that matter) can have that much power that it alters time. It makes me wonder about the affects these natural occurrences had back before mankind and during early mankind

For decades it has been postulated by scientists all over the world that a mass "extinction" event on Earth, caused by a colossal asteroid impact, killed off the dinosaurs. Now it's official: a collection of the world's top scientists have studied both recent, empirical and archival data collected on the so called "KT" boundary, a common scientific reference to the sudden extinction of the dinosaurs around 65.5 million years ago. Their conclusion: only an asteroid impact and its catastrophic effects on our planet could have had such an effect on the demise of Earth's dinosaur species. Specifically, a nine mile asteroid slammed into the Earth in a region of what is now Mexico and which is partially under the Gulf Of Mexico, the 110 mile wide "Chicxulub" crater the evidence scientists use as proof of the impact. This huge asteroid's impact was over a billion times more powerful than the 100 kiloton Hiroshima atomic bomb. The effects of the asteroid impact made it literally hell on earth: fires, earthquakes much larger than anything in recorded history, mega tsunamis(tidal waves) upwards of 1000 feet in height that blasted across all the coastlines of every continent, washing inland for tens, even hundreds of miles. The ejecta from the enormous asteroid impact would have encircled the planet and eventually blotted out the sun, effectively killing all plant life, also food for the herbivore dino species.
