For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

A giant saltwater crocodile captured in a Philippine marsh during the fall of last year has finally been certified by the Guinness Book Of World Records as being the largest saltwater crocodile in captivity in the world. Nicknamed "Lolong" by villagers in Bunawan, the Philippine village where it now resides, this enormous croc measures 6.17 meters in length(20.24 feet) and weighs well over a ton(2370 lbs).

Villagers had been feeding "Lolong" two hundred pounds of meat daily in the form of raw chickens but a croc expert recently recommended less food be given to 'Lolong" in order to make it more active. This colossal crocodile is suspected of killing two villagers late last year hence the decision to keep it sequestered away from those living in and around Bunawan.

The idea of immortality has long fascinated scientists. For the vast majority of us the idea of being able to live forever is simply preposterous. Not so for a 31 year old Russian man who has developed a concept called The 2045 Initiative. This project has a projected cost of $50 billion. What is it exactly? Click the link to find out: http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/technology-blog/live-until-2045-may-never-fear-death-014658666.html

Seems far fetched to me...but then again I'm sure a lot of people would have considered the concept of a jet airplane or supersonic transport plane far fetched a hundred years ago. winky

Why would someone want to live for ever? Everyone you know is dead and then you'd have to make new friends and the world would keep moving on. Its just not worth it. I dont want to be 1000 years old and look like a dried raisin. If I would live for ever I'd want eternal youth in small print.

An eleven year old cheetah named "Sarah" and part of the Cincinnati Zoo recently broke her own land speed record and remains the fastest animal on Earth. During a National Geographic channel video shoot, this cheetah covered 100 meters in 5.95 seconds...nearly four full seconds faster than the world's number one ranked sprinter, Jamaica's Usain Bolt. The animal's speed for this latest 100 meter dash was approximately 61 MPH. Cheetahs routinely clock 60 MPH for short bursts while chasing down prey in the wilds. Cheetahs possess long, slender legs and an elastic spine which helps enable these animals to attain great speed. A single stride by a typical cheetah can cover in excess of twenty feet. A Scottish sailor named George Edwards claims to have taken the best picture of "Nessie" yet. "Nessie" is of course a reference to the mysterious, purported Loch Ness monster, a marine creature lurking in the dark waters of the exceptionally deep Loch Ness located in Scotland. Allegedly first seen by a sixth century Irish priest, there have been hundreds of sightings of the alleged creature since. Some scientists have theorized that the creature might be a plesiosaur, a prehistoric, aquatic dinosaur with an oblate shaped body, flippers and an elongated neck. The theory goes that because Loch Ness was once connected to what is now the Atlantic Ocean millions of years ago, that somehow a handful of plesiosaurs managed to survive in Loch Ness as volcanic and other geological activity cut off Loch Ness from the ocean.

Many who have claimed to have seen the creature have described it as possessing these same physical traits and a handful of alleged images of Nessie suggest a creature with a long neck.

Researchers at NC State University(in Raleigh, NC) say they have created cyborg, remote controllable cockroaches that can be sent into disaster zones to gather information and search for survivors. Tiny micro chips are embedded in these insects and electric signals are then sent by remote control devices, the roaches receiving these signals in their antennae, this action controlling their movements. Warp drive, a method of propulsion popularized in the various "Star Trek" movies and television series, may be more feasible than initially thought. This means of propulsion, which involves manipulating space-time around a spaceship, was thought to be unfeasible due to the colossal amount of energy that would be required. Scientists now believe such a device providing the means of traveling through space at speeds in excess of the speed of light(186,000 miles per second) could be built to a smaller scale and requiring a more manageable amount of energy to power it. Read more: http://news.yahoo.com/warp-drive-may-more-feasible-thought-scientists-161301109.html

I've read articles about this in the past couple of years in which many in the scientific community believe a working "warp drive" will be built and operational within the next 50-75 years. winky

The magazine Field And Stream recently announced winners of their "Trail Cam" contest and one of the prize winners was a guy named Tom Banks who submitted a black and white photo showing some kind of animal scurrying in front of the camera. The silhouette of the animal in the pic has immediately garnered reaction from those who've seen it, many suggesting the creature is a "Bigfoot" or sasquatch. Some think it's a bear. Judge for yourself by taking a look at the below image which is the photo taken by Tom Banks:

Did hikers in Utah's Provo Canyon capture a sasquatch on video? A group of hikers recently recorded footage of what they believed to be a bear. The "bear" stood up and, according to Beard Card who recorded the footage, looked at the group. That action created a panic in the group and they scattered. Judge for yourself by clicking the link to see both the footage at normal speed and a separate clip in which the footage is slowed down and enhanced: http://www.grindtv.com/outdoor/blog/39929/hikers+take+flight+when+what+they+thought+was+a+bear+resembles+bigfoot/

The footage at normal speed:

After watching this footage I think, and I also think anyone would agree, that it's either a person in a suit of some kind...or it's a sasquatch because there's no way it's a bear. The arm and hand are clearly visible in the enhanced footage and the figure stands upright like a person and not like any bear. winky

This past Friday morning, and in what scientists are calling a "once in a hundred year event", a meteor weighing an estimated seven(7) tons and the size of a bus entered Earth's atmosphere and, travelling at an estimated speed of over 17,000 MPH, exploded in the atmosphere over central Russia. The streaking meteor was caught on video and cameras by numerous Russian citizens on the ground in and around Moscow and Chelyabinsk. The meteor blast in the atmosphere released energy equivalent to a three hundred(300) kiloton atomic bomb. Over one thousand people were injured, mostly from flying glass as the explosion in the atmosphere created shock waves that blew out doors and glass in hundreds of buildings on the ground. Over 20,000 emergency workers were dispatched on orders from Russian president Vladimir Putin. Thus far no fatalities have been reported. Building damage and damage to other structures is being reported as "extensive" with an estimated three thousand(3000) structures suffering damage. Read more: http://www.cnn.com/2013/02/15/world/europe/russia-meteor-shower/index.html

A significant meteor explosion in our atmosphere has happened before, most recently in 1908 in Tunguska, a remote and rugged region of Siberia in northern Russia. A meteor thought to be 100 meters(330 feet) wide entered our planet's atmosphere and exploded about a mile above Tunguska with the energy output of a thousand Hiroshima A-bombs. The resulting fireball and downward, outwardly radiating shock waves from the air blast demolished an area over 800 square miles, flattening and scorching over 80 million trees. Were such an event to happen over a major metropolitan city today the city would be annihilated and the loss in human lives would be catastrophic. loco2

I think the true question is" "Will humans last 100,000 more years into the future?" We have already destroyed the environment that there is no turning back. Environment change will happen and it could potentially kill us all, but the real reasons the Earth would be no more is because humans would have killed themselves.

This past Tuesday beach go'ers in Cantabria, Spain were no doubt startled to discover a beached giant squid carcass measuring thirty feet(including the length of its tentacles). The carcass has been frozen for purposes of preservation while scientists and local city officials hash out the details over legal ownership of the squid remains.

This species of giant squid, Architeuthis Dux, is a reclusive and rarely seen marine creature that typically lurks in the deep depths of the world's oceans where it is active at depths ranging from 1000 feet to as deep as 3000 feet. There have been unconfirmed accounts by sailors from the 19th century who claim to have seen squid in excess of a hundred feet in length. Marine biologists say giant squid in reality can reach a maximum length of sixty feet.
