There are forums for sports, casual chat and video games as well. For those of you who like making art, writing stories and creating videos, our community includes a forum for these submissions as well. Check out our main index page and other board forums! Anyone is welcome to join our community!

MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

But it's interesting to read up on this subject because it's quite strange that an explosion like this is unexplained
One of the problems with that explanation was the remote area in which the event occurred, an area in northern Russia that borders on Siberia. This area is very difficult to traverse on foot, and back in the early 1900's the only way to transit to this area was on foot. There is also the country of Russia to consider-in 1908, at the time of this event, Russia was still largely an agriculturally-based country, with a large population of farmers and blue-collar factory workers, and was considered technologically backwards, with an overly bureaucratic government run by "Tsars", the title bestowed the leader of Russia, that is, before the Communist Revolution of 1917. The Russian scientific community began to plan for an expedition to the blast site, but that expedition was postponed by the First World War, Russia having to engage the German Army, it's principal enemy in this war. The Russian Army during WWI had lots of men, but was technologically lacking, far behind the German Army, and the Russian losses, in this war, were in the millions. The government expressed little interest in this event until the mid 1920's, and even then it took another two years before the first official expedition was made to the site of the explosion, in 1927, and a full nineteen years after the event itself happened.

Click the link, Trent, for a very good brief(5:00) video of this event:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EiXpp-i442s

Speaking of explosions, here's a short video on the "Tsar", a 58 megaton hydrogen bomb detonated by the Soviet Union on October 30, 1961, in the midst of the arms race and "Cold War" between the U.S. and U.S.S.R.(Union of Soviet Socialist Republics): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9AMtUeyDP0
The explosive power of this Soviet nuclear weapon was equivalent to all the bombs dropped by every participating country in the Second World War...times ten freak out

Here's a short video(grainy but watchable) of the Castle Bravo detonation, in February, 1954, by the U.S.-the bomb had a yield of 15 megatons, and is still the most powerful thermonuclear device ever detonated by the United States
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pLUUVqPiLyc

The Baker underwater A-bomb detonation, in 1946, the weapon used possessing a yield of 21 kilotons: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XudyhmS1YxA
Note the air burst and initial shock waves that rapidly radiate outwards. Though not shown on the video many of the (unmanned)ships placed closest to the epicenter of this underwater blast, old and decommissioned Navy ships no longer in use by the fleet, were swamped and either partially, or completely, sunk by surface surges(waves) from the blast that were anywhere from 60-80 feet high, and travelling at over two hundred miles per hour. shocked smiley

That's a very interesting mystery...I wonder if the public will ever find out the answers? They said the government since a team to investigate and I'm sure they found something...besides from what they described in the video clip no meteorite could have done that.

As for the bombs...well scary to know that mankind have these devastating weapons that could easily destroy the planet. Gives me a better understanding of why the Cold War was such a big deal.

Another mystery of the Earth that has always fascinated me is the biblical story of Noah's Ark. After the great flood that covered the earth for forty days and forty nights the waters receded, the ark, a 450 foot long wooden vessel built by Noah, coming to rest on Mt. Ararat, which is located in the region now known as Turkey. Many scientific expeditions have attempted to find Noah's Ark. Rumors have long circulated that the U.S. government has in it's possession satellite photographs showing the remnants of the ark in plain view. The government of Turkey has unfortunately, and often, prohibited any outsiders from exploring the area, which is, needless to say, mountainous, extremely rugged and difficult to traverse on foot. Who to believe? Does the remnants of the ark really rest on Mt. Ararat?

I happened to run across this story posted at another board, one that definitely fits within the scope of this thread. Earlier this month, on May 3rd, 11 year old Jamison Stone, while hunting with his dad Mike, in Montgomery, AL, shot and killed what may very will be the largest feral hog that ever roamed the Earth, even bigger than the one killed in South Georgia in 2004, and given the nickname "Hogzilla". According to Mike Stone, his 11 year old son shot and killed a feral swine weighing over 1000 lbs and measuring over nine feet long from snout to tail. There is actually a website that has been created to document this incident. As someone with an above average familiarity of handguns I can tell you that a .50 cal revolver is essentially a miniaturized howitzer, with maximum lethality and stopping power.
Click the link to visit the website set up to document, and, from the looks of it, aggrandize this hunting incident in Alabama: http://www.monsterpig.com/

Suppose the Ark really did exist and there are remains of the Ark, why would a country/govt. want to keep it a secret? Unless this Ark has super natural powers or is really an ufo...I'll never understand things like these...

Trent, check out this brief video, taken of an alleged UFO at the WTC circa 2001, obviously before the 9/11 attacks. It looks pretty real to me. I first saw this on the Sci-Fi Channel back in 2001. What do you think? heyo

I can only speculate that the revelation of Noah's Ark as fact might be deemed, perhaps by the U.S. and/or other countries, as risky politically. The impact such a revelation might have, on world religions, could adversely impact the world's political stage as well, Trent, and that might not necessarily be a good thing. confused

Though I absolutely hate watching any videos that have ANYTHING to do with the 9/11 attacks I thought this one might be worth at least one look. This video, about a minute long, show's the second jet plowing into the second WTC tower. The title of this video, Satan's face seen in second WTC explosion, is what got my attention. Watch this video carefully: at the .27 mark(at exactly the 27 second mark) you will see a fireball from the jet impact into the tower, and what appears to be, momentarily, a "face" in the smoke: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-kBIbz-jXrM ... freak out very angry

If that's a fake, that is a pretty good fake because it has me fooled eh?

Now that's just freaky, I didn't notice it until the 3rd viewing though but it does appears to be a face...not sure if I would call it "Satan's" face but it does look like a face...

Oh yea, I caught that Discovery documentary about the giant squids and sperm whales...very interesting. I'll have to watch it again though because my little cousin kept interrupting me throughout the special confused <_<

SETI, or Search For Extra Terrestrial Intelligence, will soon be online 24/7, with more parabolic arrays on the way that will enable this government funded research group to "look" into outer space non-stop, searching for audio signals and/or other audio/video anomalies that might indicate the presence of intelligent life. You know, I've been reading into this global warming thing and it seems a lot of people forget that the Earth does naturally change. Granted global warming is affecting things, some things were always meant to change (the earth was once hot as a fireball and cold as a snowball at one point). I see none of this referenced lately in any of these global warming studies. Some times I think these studies are over dramatic and exaggerated...

Absolutely possible. My old man used to say, Trent, that government bureaucrats and/or scientists can manipulate information and statistics to support whatever position or argument they make. I believe that global warming is having an adverse effect on this planet, but I am not convinced(yet anyway) that it is having currently, or will have in the future, the catastrophic effects on our climate that many allege. Global warming is a topic I will continue to try and remain informed about as I get older, that's for sure. nod

Though this is not really an oddity of nature I believe it still looks strange enough to post here. Click the link, Trent, to see an airborne military helicopter. That in of itself isn't strange, but this is: the rotors on the chopper do not appear to be turning at all while it's in the air: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=460eG-zkC5A

The concept of invisibility is one that has been the subject of many books and magazine articles, and has also been featured in countless science-fiction films and television series. How much longer will it remain science fiction? Apparently, according to this article, not too much longer: http://www.sciencenews.org/articles/20060715/bob9.asp

The subject of time travel is also one that has fascinated scientists for centuries. The question, of course: "Is time travel possible?" . There are still no definitive answers, and the scientific community is divided on the subject. To familiarize yourself with time travel concepts click this link: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/time/through.html

More "NessIe" mania- here's another "latest and best video footage yet" video of the alleged creature: http://www.cnn.com/2007/WORLD/europe/05/31...s.ap/index.html (click the link, scroll down and click the video link on the lower left side of the page). My own reaction to this footage: bleh

Recently(in 2005) a straight-to-video movie was made, and released to DVD, called The Beast Of Bray Road. It airs on the Sci-Fi Channel from time to time. It is based on an alleged creature that prowled, and may still very well be prowling, various parts of Wisconsin. Some of the sightings of this alleged beast are consistent with a bear, and some are not. The movie rendered the monster as a hulking, murderous, two legged lycanthrope, which is synonymous with the term "werewolf". Judge for yourself. Click the link for more info on the alleged Wisconsin beast: http://www.cnb-scene.com/brayupdate.html

I seen that movie 1.5 times, it was pretty lackluster but it had an interesting concept. I didn't know there was a "real" story behind it though, thought it was pure movie concept. I'm glad I don't live in these remote areas/states where all this nutty stuff happens (save for the Jersey Devil).

Topic: spontaneous human combustion is another mysterious phenomena that's worth checking out in books and magazines. It's happened as well, that is, incidents in which human beings have suddenly, and without warning, ignited into a flames. From Kidzworld.com:

Spontaneous Human Combustion
All that was left of Mary Reese after spontaneous human combustion.
Human Combustion
On the morning of July 2, 1951, Mary Reese was found dead in her apartment. Everything about her death was mysterious. To begin with, not much was left of her. There was only a pile of ashes, a shrunken skull and a completely undamaged left foot. It was obvious that Mary had burned to death. But the odd thing was the damage done to her apartment. Only the corner where Mary had been sitting in her chair was burnt to a crisp. Everything else looked normal. Mary's death was explained as spontaneous human combustion (SHC.) That's when the body suddenly ignites (usually from the inside) without any explanation.

Mary's not the only one to have died from spontaneous human combustion. Hundreds of other people have been victims of SHC. In 1998, Agnes Phillips was sitting in her daughter's parked car in Sydney, Australia, when she suddenly burst into flames. Her daughter and a man, who witnessed the incident, put out the flames but Agnes died a week later in the hospital. The car wasn't running at the time of the fire, there was no faulty wiring and police couldn't think of any explanation for the fire other than spontaneous human combustion

Some links about this phenomena:

You know I've always been interested about this topic after I heard a joke about it when I was young teen but I never took the time to research it for some reason. It's such a rare thing to happen (which I'm glad that it is) because I can't say I have ever recalled hearing a story about it on the news ever. I'll be searching through those links a great deal over the next few days

Human-animal hybrids have long been a source of contention, and debate, within the scientific community. Much of the debate centers on stem cell research, which many scientists argue would be monumentally beneficial in spinal cell regeneration research, as well as the re-creation of body organs, e.g. livers, kidneys, and other organs that might be, presumably, used in organ transplant surgery for those in need of these organs. Stem cell research is currently prohibited in the United States, though it does happen in other countries. There is a dark side to this blending of human and animal DNA, sometimes referred to as "recombinant DNA" research. It's been the topic of countless science-fiction books and films, most notably The Island Of Dr. Moreau, a sci-fi/horror film based on an H.G. Wells book that first aired theatrically in 1977 and again in theaters in 1996-the remake starred Marlon Brando and Val Kilmer. In both movies human-animal hybrids, sometimes referred to as chimeras, were featured roaming about the island, many of them not very pleasant to be around. There is also a very good book called Watchers, authored by Dean Koontz, which chronicles the plight of two escaped laboratory creatures, one a golden retriever with human-like intelligence, the other a hideous monster of primate genetic origin, the latter created to be used in war against enemy soldiers. This book has also spawned several films. Click the link to learn more about this topic: http://www.gnn.tv/headlines/headline.php?id=933

Many mysteries of our time are located right inside our heads, in our own minds. For instance, have you ever been somewhere, or done something, and right in the middle of your action or location felt like you had done that same action, or been in that very same location, before, even though you know you haven't? Have you ever felt as though a place you were at seemed familiar, even though you know you had never been there before? The term for this sensation is referred to as deja vu, a French phrase that translates to already seen. Many theories have been thrown around over the years as to why we feel this sensation. One recent study suggests it is a memory problem in the brain, and not really anything more. Click the link for more info on this study: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19098692/wid/11915773?GT1=10109

Well it's nice to know that as I get older, I will be experiencing deja vu more often :<!--emo&lol:-->Posted Image<!--endemo--> But that first link makes a lot of sense when you actually break it down. It's been a while since I've had a "deja vu" episode...

I'll tell you what they will find with this probe, "We were unable to find a bigfoot-like creature but there is no conclusive evidence to prove that it does not exist. In the mean time, we shall waste thousands of dollars on trying to locate this creature." lol2

This is an interesting article that delves into parallels between Saturn's largest moon, called Titan, and the Earth. One thing this article touches on is the inevitable, and unfortunate reality of our own planet: one day, far into the future, Earth will be nothing more than a desert planet, the result of our oceans literally boiling away as our sun expands, part of a process that our sun, categorized as a "yellow dwarf", goes through in its normal "life" cycle. As our sun expands temperatures here on our planet will rise dramatically. This will happen millions of years from now, so don't sweat it(pun intended tongue-1 ) too much.
