Welcome to MONSTERLAND FORUMS! We are a casual and friendly online community of movie fans who like to talk about giant monsters, horror and sci-fi in cinema, on television and on Blu Ray/DVD. There are forums for sports, casual chat and video games as well. For those of you who like making art, writing stories and creating videos, our community includes a forum for these submissions as well. Check out our main index page and other board forums! Anyone is welcome to join our community!

MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

As a computer geek (IT major)
Question: when I was in college there was a Bachelor Of Science major in Computer Science. That was over twenty years ago. Is there still a BS degree in "Computer Science" offered by colleges, or has it been changed to "IT"-or are they two separate degrees altogether?

Did you know they are working on the "Internet 2"?
I heard something on the news not too long ago about how the internet is going to undergo some kind of "reworking" or "overhaul". Is this what you're referring to?

The two are separate degrees, Computer Science is mostly programming but IT (or Computer Information Systems/IT/many other names) is some programming, some hardware configuration and intergrating the 2 into business.

That might be the same thing, from the readings I have come across they are creating a new internet that is faster and caters better to the high demands that are now being placed on the current internet.

Maybe...and maybe not. It's possible that this "upgraded" internet may positively influence dialup ISPs as well. :)

In the Canary Islands a new, and very large telescope, one of the world's largest, has come online. Click the link to read the article and see what this cool looking facility look like: http://home.bellsouth.net/s/editorial.dll?...&ac=0&ck=&ch=ne

Is the thing in this video a "chupacabra", the mystery mutant creature alleged to roam Mexico and parts of South America? Judge for yourself by clicking this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmHmnfgON4A

I love monsters, and stories about "I saw a monster in the forest" or similar isn't really to be found in Sweden, and has largely been unheard of for decades. We have had searches for Storsjöodjuret, though. Storsjöodjuret (Literally: The Storsjö Beast) is said to live in the lake Storsjön in north Sweden. It's been described as a (roughly) 6 meters long (Though of course some people have claimed it longer) snakelike thing in the lake. At one point, the monster was considered an endangered species, but not anymore. You can't call something endangered unless it's proven to actually exist, eh?

I'd post a link, but there isn't much facts to find on the monster in English. Wikipedia has a little article on it, but that's pretty much what I could find.

And yet a group of scientists recently attempted to do just that regarding
Sasquatch. very funny

What's interesting to me is that it seems every country in the world seems to have some kind of "legendary" and as yet unidentifiable "cryptids".

Ever wonder how the English Channel was formed? The English Channel is a body of water separating Britain from France. Apparently the formation of this body of water began hundreds of thousands of years ago, with two colossal megafloods. Well, we were first about that. We got it on a list, and then we removed it. We just didn't find the beast. ^_^

What strikes me is the cryptid monsters they always describe as only one. If there's only one, how does it... you know... do its... business...?

I mean, it seems unlikely for simply a giant serpentine aquatic being to live for oh-so-many hundred years, right?

The three most commonly recognized phenomena around the globe seem to be, IMO, Bigfoot/Yeti, the Lochness Monster, and UFO's. Of these three I believe UFO's have the greatest chance of being real, because of the vastness of space surrounding our planet and the overwhelming mathematical probablity that favors the existence of intelligent life, perhaps many much more so than our own, on other planets. Just my opinion. Of the three Kex which do you think has the best chance of being real? heyo

Well, the Loch Ness monster is scratched. A lake repeatedly searched with intense care can't hold something that big unseen.

Bigfoot/Yeti are actually remotely possible, given that we have a lot of mountains on Earth and they could be able to hide from us. Still, they're rather unlikely, even if it'd be pretty cool.

UFOs. They're the most likely, only if they were here, how come they only fly around a bit? Sightseeing? Are we a zoo planet to them? Mr. or Ms. Cool

If they made the effort of coming here, why do they not seek any long-lasting or at least noticeable contact with us?

Many who believe in alien visitations to our planet speculate that we are indeed being scrutinized by these extraterrestrial visitors. For what reason? Who knows? Maybe the aliens are simply explorers...or their study of mankind could be a precursor for an invasion of our planet, much like science fiction films like Independence Day(1996) and War Of The Worlds(2005). Obviously if we are being studied I hope it's just because the aliens are naturally curious about us, and not for anything else.

Again, some scientists speculate that aliens visiting our planet may simply wish to remain anonymous to us(or as close to anonymous as they possibly can, hence the proliferation of alleged UFO sightings in areas that are sparsely inhabited by humans, and not huge metropolitan cities). Another possibility: having observed the constant regional wars and conflicts that are going on around the world, the aliens may decide we are too violent a species to interact with. Mankind's history is rife, Kex, with violence and war, which would not portray humans in a favorable light with alien visitors.

Is this something you saw in your home? Or elsewhere?

Yes, it could be shadows or other lighting "anomalies". I have never seen anything that looks like a ghost-I have, however, heard things outdoors that sounded strange and like nothing I've heard before. See the above post I made about a camping trip I went on with friends and what happened.

I have also been on some other hikes, back in the late 80's/early 90's, where I heard noises that were not consistent with what I was accustomed to hearing from the normal array of critters that inhabited the surroundings I was in.

I don't ever patronize those who claim to see unusual things, or imply that they didn't see anything. I would resent someone if they did that to me so in turn I listen to what others say and try to keep an open mind. :)

Which is good. Bear in mind that sometimes(though not all the time) when you tell someone something that's strange or sounds unbelievable it could be that they believe you, they just act skeptical. I've known many people like this. :)

I've had a few dreams about Godzilla-thank God they were just dreams. tongue-1 I can say with absolute certainty that I have never seen anything even remotely resembling a ghost, that is, how ghosts are commonly depicted: as misty, floating apparations and/or wavering lights. I have heard some "creaks" and doors move a little a few times, things I just associated with their locale(an older house) having its own set of peculiar noises, which older houses usually have.

The concept of artificial life has been the subject of countless science fiction films. It may soon become science fact as scientists now believe the creation of artificial life will occur within the next 3-10 years. I'm not sure that I agree about leaving this development entirely alone, but I do agree with you that the potential for abuse regarding this development is huge. That alone may be reason enough not explore this "science" any further.

I mean this could be a really good thing but I have this feeling it's going to turn into a really bad thing. As Tommy Lee Jones said in Men In Black 1: "Humans are smart, People are stupid." And more than likely some stupid people are going to be the ones in control at some point...
