Welcome to MONSTERLAND FORUMS! We are a casual and friendly online community of movie fans who like to talk about giant monsters, horror and sci-fi in cinema, on television and on Blu Ray/DVD. There are forums for sports, casual chat and video games as well. For those of you who like making art, writing stories and creating videos, our community includes a forum for these submissions as well. Check out our main index page and other board forums! Anyone is welcome to join our community!

MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

Former NASA atstronaut Dr. Edgar Mitchell, now 77, recently raised more than a few eyebrows with his abrupt declaration that the U.S. government has made contact with extraterrestrial aliens, several times, and that the American government has covered all of these "contact" events up. The link: http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/story/0,,24069817-5001021,00.html

Dr. Mitchell provides no evidence to support his claim, which has resulted in his assertions being ridiculed.

In a related article, American astrophysicist Dr. Frank Drake believes humanity will make contact with intelligent alien life within the next twenty years. Click the link to read his argument in support of this belief: http://www.news.com.au/dailytelegraph/story/0,22049,23322738-5016574,00.html

You want a living monster? Two Words: Bombardier Beetle. It's one of few creatures who actually posesses what could be called a "Special Ability", as it has the power to project a jet a steaming-hot chemicals from it's abdoman. Other animals with such "Special Abilities" include the color-changing Octopus, Squid, Chameleon, and Anole, the echolocating Bats, even Dolphins, who use concentrated bursts of sound to stun and disorient prey.

The creatures listed here may not be particularly massive, but fir their, ah, unique powers, I think that they all deserve titles of modern-day monsters.

Ever wondered what caused the extinction of dinosaurs? I have followed this topic for many years. I began reading about it in college. It is generally accepted by most scientists now that a six mile wide asteroid slammed into an area in close proximity to Mexico's Yucatan peninsula(in the Gulf Of Mexico) millions of years ago-the mass of this space rock would have been 20-30 billion tons. Entering the Earth's atmosphere at several thousand miles per hour, this gigantic asteroid impacted the Gulf Of Mexico with the energy equivalent of perhaps 10,000 hydrogen bombs, waves several hundred feet high radiating outwards in all directions, eventually making landfall along the various land masses and reaching run up heights of over 1000 feet. The impact also resulted in climactic shifts on our planet, which ultimately spelled the end for dinosaurs. Many scientists speculate that had this impact event not happened many species of dinosaurs would still be in existence today. Read more: http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20070905/sc_nm/...id_dinosaurs_dc
I know what you're wondering. What if the rock had missed? Wonder no more:

"Living monsters" aren't always large. One such creature that comes to mind is the King Baboon spider, a member of the "Theraphosidae"(giant tarantula) order and the second largest Theraphosid spider on the African continent.

The King baboon spider is widely considered the most aggressive and hostile of giant tarantulas and can never be handled. This creature can actually make an audible hissing noise when it feels threatened. It can and will bite quickly anyone or anything that gets within range of it's fangs, which can be as long as 3/4 of an inch and easily capable of puncturing a person's skin.

The females are usually larger than the males, and this species of Theraphosid can reach leg spans in the 7-8" range.

Tarantula's aren't spiders, Pack.
Really? Then why do I see statements like "Giant tarantulas are the largest spiders in the world" at The Discovery Channel website and other related websites that are animal/science oriented?

Example: from Learning.com-

"Tarantulas are large, hairy spiders"

Tarantulas are spiders. Why don't you just ask a biology teacher at your school to confirm this?

Tarantula bites are not generally fatal to humans. People who have been bitten by these large spiders liken it to a bee or wasp sting, painful enough and with localized swelling.

In the handful of cases where fatalities have occurred from tarantula bites it usually occurred after the bite area of the victim became severely infected, or the victim had a severe allergic reaction to the bite.

My reply wasn't a snap, just...a reply. Admittedly I found your declaration that tarantulas aren't spiders surprising but it didn't upset me.

If you want to see what message board "snapping" by me looks like then go look up some archival posts between me and a certain fat, unemployed eighteen year old named Joshua Reynolds(aka "Monster Master") at Toho Kingdom's message board. You might find a few of these at Kaijuphile also, dated about this time two years ago. winky

Something of a jerk? He's a jerk, period. There are three people I have encountered on the internet who I have no problem openly talking about regarding my negative opinions of them and he's one of them. I hope he reads this post. winky

Probably because he sits on his fat ass all day at the computer, Jack. I don't have that luxury. I have to work full time. I've been in the work force since I was sixteen years old: that's thirty years for me, and counting.
"Monster Master" is the typical "internet tough guy", Jack. He can sit at his computer and go about saying whatever he wants to others believing that no one can do anything about it. Part of this, I think, is based on the belief that people, in general, cannot be tracked down from interactions on message boards. In his case this is true...with most people, but not all.
I used to work as a skip tracer, Jack: I looked for, and found, people that didn't want to be found. winky

In reality he's a portly teenager who needs to lose weight, get a job, get out on his own, get laid(which I doubt has happened yet judging by his appearance) and live in his own place. Once he does those things and does them for many years then I'll cut him a little slack.

The appearance of the dead creature has created something of a stir among the local populace of this seaside community. Is it real or somebody's idea of a joke? As I always am.

Carcass looks real enough to me, but I'm stumped as to what the hell it is. Sea Turtle without a shell? No, that's retarded, turtle's are fused directly into their shells, they can't lose them. Escapee from the nearby animal research facility? Not to sound paranoid, but I think that's completely possible. Undiscovered marine mammal? Mammals don't have beaks, with the exeption of the platypus. I do think it looks mammalian though, and a lot of creatures develop beaks underwater, take the parrot fish for example, so I guess it's possible.

The announcement of this discovery was by paleontologists, scientists who specialize in the field of paleontology. Respectfully, I consider the chances they are correct, and you aren't, much greater than the reverse.

I post these articles in this thread as a means by which those interested in this sort of thing can read about them. If a member here, any member, wants to challenge the authenticity of an article I post, then that member is welcome to do so, by posting information of their own, in the form of articles(links) and/or other media related to their challenge, such as videos.

Just stating that you think it's wrong...well, I think you can do better than that. You seem like a pretty smart guy. winky
