So, the moral is: Don't mix any kind of alcohol with apple cider.

Y'know, I rarely ever drink egg nog. It's just that my family never buys the stuff. Maybe I need to just bring the nog next time since no one else will. B) Getting into acohol for just a sec (sorry); I love brandy in the winter. Especially at Christmas parties. Warms both the soul and the body.

I have never been much of a liquor drinker. I do enjoy a few beers every week, usually consumed with food(like pizza). When it comes to liqour the only concoctions I ever liked: whiskey sours and screwdrivers.

I also like to drink milk on occasion.

I've tried it before and didn't like it that much.

Whiskey sours are darned good.

Assuming they are properly prepared by the bartender. I have been in bars where the whiskey sour I drank was the proper mix of whiskey and sour. In other establishments I have consumed whiskey sours that were way too heavy on the alcohol, or way too weak.

Topic: I can drink tap water but I much prefer bottled water, and of the flat variety, like Dasani or Aquafina. Though it has a slight aftertaste I also like Deer Park bottled water.

As Adam Sandler would say(from the film The Waterboy: "Now that be some quality H2O." laughing smiley

I remember for years, when I'd go to a New Year's Eve party at my cousin's, as a teen, they'd have egg nog, but the sound turned me off....they served her homemade mix, minus alcohol for everyone. Then, back several years ago, I was delivering mail part time and a week or two before Christmas, I was on for delivery one morning and the woman that cleaned the Post Office, brought homemade cookies and store bought egg nog. Not wanting to seem ungrateful, I accepted a small cup of the egg nog and was actually surprised at how tasty it was. I don't think I've had any since and would be willing to try it, again, actually.

I've never really acquired a taste for alcohol, I can probably count on one hand the times I've actually done any drinking and I've never been drunk in my life....horrible headaches and vomiting is not at the top of my, 'fun' list. ;) However, I can drink peach schnapps and I've had a few strawberry daiquiris in the past and they weren't too bad. I commend you Kimi for your approach to alcohol consumption. I would tell anyone who has never drank anything alcoholic: don't start, because you're not missing much. Though hardly a wild drunkard in college, as quite a few of my collegiate classmates were, no doubt I could have held back on the beer intake more than I did. I have always liked the overall taste of beer-I have since my father let me drink my first cup of beer when I was 14 years old. I was allowed, by both parents, to drink a little here and there, in the house only, until I reached 18 years of age. The hangovers I have had ran the gamut from mild to horrendous. I "burned out", if you will, on getting inebriated. Once I realized I was only doing it to relax, or to forget about, however briefly, common aggravations in life like bills, an ex-girlfriend, or work-related stress, I knew it was time to stop. I still have a beer here and there. I don't miss the hangovers, that's for sure. faster <!--emo&shifty eyes-->Posted Image<!--endemo-->

Thanks, Lee. I'm not sure it was ever a conscious effort on my part, but when I was 13, my Mom married a raging alcoholic...thinking her 'love' would be enough to change him. Unfortunately, he was very abusive and anything associated with drinking became very uncomfortable for me. Thankfully, my step-Dad has been sober for 22 years, now, but the memories of his abuse to Mom and the family are still fresh enough, I'm just not ready to throw any back, myself. Diet Pepsi and sugar-free Kool-Aid are good for me! ;)

Alcohol and getting drunk are very low on my list of fun things to do. I have friends that drink beer every day and I just don't know how they do it. I rarely get hangovers or get sick. However, I do have that tired, rundown feeling the following day. Just not worth it. Plus, I don't really get drunk like I used to. Back when it was a new experience it was a lot of fun. Now, it's just kinda lame.

I have friends that drink beer every day and I just don't know how they do it.

I knew a few guys in the U.S. Navy(about my age at the time) that drank beer like the McKenzie brothers from the film Strange Brew, their allegiance to this amber-colored beverage almost rabid-like in quality, much like the drunken buffoons in the upcoming movie Beerfest. I actually cringe a little when I see these movies released. They are supposed to be comedies, but a movie about massive beer consumption will no doubt fuel the continued glorification of collegiate(and other) parties that are little more than booze-fests. I believe a person can build up a tolerance to the alcohol in beer Dan-that in turn means that a person would have to consume more beer to have the desired effect, that is, being drunk. I can personally attest to this. In college I weighed about 175 lbs, and, based on my beer consumption, I would have to drink a six pack(minimum) to feel even somewhat tipsy. Now, despite being heavier, at about 195 lbs, I can drink three beers now and feel the same effect, if not even a little more now.

Maybe that's why these people you know drink beer nightly-it is usually a physical or pyschological addiction, or both.

Beer is a great way to pack on the pounds and eff up your liver. I rarely drink anymore. Maybe once every two weeks. I just can't do it every day like other people do.

You know, I never liked Coca Cola, but I can drink the diet Coca Cola from a fountain and while at my nephew's All-Star baseball game this Summer, I was dying of thirst and the only diet beverage they had was, Coke, so I actually drank 2 cans.....now, mind you, I'll still take diet Pepsi over Coke any day, but it's nice to know in a pinch, diet Coke will do. ;)

No I wasn't!
Then again, I suppose it's like the secret for making McDonald's burgers (probably rat meat Mr Green ) I don't really care though, I love Coke! And McDonald's!!!

...(probably rat meat

Hopefully not. I do think that McDonalds uses a lot of soy in their meat, and I also suspect that the fast food giant may use more meat by-products in their burgers than the public actually realizes.

Another closely guarded secret in the fast food industry: the secret recipe for the chicken at Kentucky Fried Chicken, a chain of restaurants started here in the United States in 1964 by Harland "Colonel" Sanders. eyebrow

When I was still able to work, I worked in a beef processing plant and I was in the 'Grinding' department. We took 2000 pound bins of cuts of meat and combined them in 6000 pound batches to make various ground beef selections...we controlled the fat content as well as the cuts of meat used for a particular grind. I was the 'blender' and loved that position. I'd get blender filled with 6000 pounds and occasionally more of meat and it was my job to get the product to the correct fat content...ie..95/05 (fat % of 5), 93/07, 90/10, 85/15, etc...etc..etc. I would have to base how much 'fat' meat or 'lean' meat was added the the pounds of meat before me and the product was closely monitored by quality control. Once I sent my batch out, quality control would test the meat at various stages of that batch, just to be sure I wasn't sending anything out too lean or too fat.

At one point, we used to add soy to the ground beef, but that was by special order, only and we never had much of a call for that product and we eventually didn't offer this product at all. I know working at the plant, I could purchase cuts of meat as well as burgers at employee discounted prices and one of my favorite products other than the cuts of meat I;d use for steaks or roasts was our sirloin burgers.....yummy!

I miss working there, it was extremely tough work and the hours and the weeks were long, but I enjoyed my job and the people I worked with and the regular paycheck sure was nice.

I commend you for being able to work such a difficult job, and doing it well. No doubt when you told people your job was a meatgrinder you were telling the truth...literally.

I still hope you can find some way to work from home... part-time or otherwise.

Thanks, Lee. :)

It's funny, when I used to tell some people online what I did for a living, they'd immediately think I wasn't the brightest bulb in the bunch and acted quite surprised AFTER they got to know me that while not the brightest bulb, I'm far from dim. ;)

I understand. Many customers I have conversed with over the years I have been in landscaping(eleven +) ask about my background, and seem surprised when I tell them I am a college graduate. I also had to pass examinations(written) in order to obtain a pesticide applicator license and certified landscape technician certificate. Still, many homeowners continue to treat me as though I still have only a basic minimum level of reading and writing skills, the latter funny, at least to me, considering that I was in charge of my high school newspaper and yearbook my senior year in high school, ran the creative-writing publication at my college for two years, and worked PT from 1987-88 for a small area "journal"-style newspaper covering local high school football games, each and EVERY one of these responsibilities requiring good writing skills. shifty eyes

I do find it amazing how some people come to conclusions based on minimal knowledge of another person. I don't think what someone does for a living can ever be used to look down upon a person, heck, if someone works at their job every day, does the best they can, how can anyone look down on them? I have an Uncle who is absolutely brilliant, he graduated from high school with high honors, graduated from college with honors and studied a year in the UK, as well, yet he's never worked in the field he received his diploma in! He knows squat about vehicles and actually works in the parts department for a car dealership, but he's happy and in the end, if you must work, it's nice if you can actually do something you enjoy.

OMG....I love this stuff! Sadly, I don't think they offer a sugar-free version of their drink, so I haven't had any in years, but it was always a fave of mine. Does anyone recall a soda from....well, I drank it as a kid in the 70s, Cherokee Red? It was a red-colored soft drink and not sure of the flavor, but all my cousins and I thought that was the end-all-be-all soda! dancing admin

I don't remember that one. The only red-colored non-alcoholic beverages I can remember drinking were:

red Kool-Aid
Hawaiian Punch(still a Packmule favorite)
