:<!--emo&lol:-->Posted Image<!--endemo--> Oh, that laxative trick is a nasty one! freak out

I tend to be or was a bit more accident prone, in my youth. I had several injuries at work and usually not my direct fault.

-Had 1300 pounds dropped on my foot. I was banding, dating and stacking cases of beef patties and the USDA inspector was going to mark them ebfore we went off for break and the Group Leader, reached over and put the pallet of cases down, directly on my foot. Thankfully, the 'drop' wasn't all that far and no broken bones in the foot, but it was sore for a while.

-I was blending a 6000 pound batch of ground beef and had just emptied the blender and was scraping out some remaining meat/fat and I took my stainless steel 'scraper' and went to hit some meat off and managed to slam my right hand into the metal post used to keep anyone from falling into the blender. I still think I broke the knuckle on my right middle finger, but x-rays were negative.

-I was working with another woman and we were hot gluing boxes together for meat to be packed in. She managed to take the glue gun and sprayed hot glue all over my arm...from the wrist to the shoulder. The thing with that glue was, it burned like hell, but if you tried to wipe the glue off, when hot, it simply smeared and burned a larger area. freak out I had to stand there and wait for the glu to harden, slightly and then attempted to peel off the glue....along with skin and hair!

freak out Man that sure would make a hell of a lot of hamburgers!

I have been fortunate to limit my injuries in the landscaping industry to one moderately sprained knee and patella tendon(under the knee cap) in 2003, and a mild ankle sprain in 2002, along with the assorted bumps, bruises, splinters in fingers, and blisters from handling a shovel or other tool all day long. I did have one other close call that I can remember: back in early 1997 me and two other guys were building a small series of fieldstone retaining walls. To remove any excess, and dried, mortar from the joints we used diluted muriatic acid(100 parts water to one part acid). One of the guys was dipping a small, hand-held brush in a bucket of the diluted(with water) muriatic acid-he began brushing the joints in an up-and-down stroke, a no-no, and the bristles managed to sprinkle some fine droplets of the diluted acid into my eyes. "Frank", the other co-worker, saw me close my eyes and yell and, immediately recognizing what had happened, turned on the home owner's nearby hose and helped me flush out my eyes. There was some burning, as if salt or pepper had gotten in my eyes, but it passed with the water flush. thumbs up

Ouch! freak out Thank god there wasn't any permanent damage to your eyes. That's one of my biggest fears in being diabetic....losing my sight and I must admit, I have noticed a big difference over the past year or two in how my vision has changed.

What is the long term prognosis from your doc regarding your eyesite, say, over the next 15-20 years?

Last May, when I went for my eye exam and got new glasses, I was already showing signs of diabetic retinosis (spelling?). I have been diagnosed as a diabetic for about 10-11 years and it's unusual for someone to show signs of this, at this stage of their diagnosis, but I have to wonder if having Lupus has sped up this problem? I was told to eat lots of veggies and fruit, never a problem and to maintain annual eye exams.

Well, best to do what the docs tell you. I have noticed my own eyesight beginning to change also, and not for the better. freak out

I guess this is to be expected as we age. :( Although, I had a great-great Aunt that lived to be almost 102 and she didn't need glasses, her mind was sharp as a tack...the only thing was a loss of hearing, but if you spoke up nice and loud and looked at her while speaking, she got it all.

Pretty remarkable for anyone to live to 102 and still be reasonably coherent. I hope to be so fortunate. I also have to do this with my landlord, Mrs. C, who is 86. Since I already have a loud, authoritative voice(so I've been told ad nauseam) Mrs. C has no problem hearing me-neither, by the way, does my landlord's young female assistant, who does not have a hearing problem. tongue-1

I was rather impressed by my Aunt, she was amazing and the things she saw in her lifetime was at times, even more amazing.

I don't think I speak very loud, UNTIL I become highly irritated and then, the entire area can hear me talking at the top of my lungs. freak out

Lee, anytime you hear a low rumble that you can't account for, it very well could be me....talking at the top of my lungs.

When it comes to yelling, my own cat, The Hammer, never hears me yell. The reason: he always hauls ass into another room before I get a complete sentence out. tongue-1

Reasons why I might yell at my cat:

-occasional meowing and howling at odd hours of the night
-answering the call of nature in any locale other than his litterbox
-using the couch, or any furniture, to stretch his claws
-climbing onto the dinette
-attempting to claw or chew on any of "those damn DVDs still on my livingroom coffee table" ( tongue-1 )

lol Sounds as if HB and Hammer could be releated, although, knock wood, HB has never done reason 2 on your list. HB has been howling a lot late at night, since our return from Florida, he always does this, but I'm hoping by week's end, he may be secure that we're home to stay and he'll stop. As for reason 3 on your list, HB has damn near ruined the sofa in a couple of spots and I've threatened to rip his claws out, myself. I told Carol, never again will I have a cat in my place, once HB is no longer with us.

In an effort to steer this thread back to it's original topic...I've been eating more than my usual intake of vegetables, which is good since my normal intake isn't very much ( tongue-1 ). I've also been eating less meat, and more noodles, of the Chinese and Ramen variety. Last night I cooked, for the first time in a few years, beef stroganoff. Tell me, Kimi, do you and your roommate cook together or do you prepare your meals separately? heyo

We grocery shop and prepare our meals, together. :) Carol is much more apt to cook a meal and try new recipes, than I am. When I lived on my own, I would often cook a meal on my day off, but if I was owrking 7 days/week, it was anything that was frozen or came out of a can, usually.

I just love veggies and fruit and Carol has actually gotten me to try a couple of new veggies over the years....eggplant, which I love as well as...asparagus! I have gotten her to eat and love, zuchinni and squash as well as spinach. thumbs up

as well as spinach
freak out I absolutely hate cooked spinach. I can eat spinach in it's leafy form, say a spinach salad.

Vegetables I really like:

green beans(string beans especially)(cooked)
black eyed peas(cooked)
steamed cabbage
iceburg lettuce(raw, eaten as part of a salad)
green and red tomatoes(usually in a salad but I like to eat tomato slices on occasion)
carrots(raw or cooked)
cucumbers(raw-as part of a salad)
onions(eat a Vidalia sweet onion as is or cooked onions, usually on green beans)
pickles(I especially like "sweet" pickles groink! )
sweet corn(I liked it on a cob groink! -I also like cream corn ans "white "corn)
celery(eaten raw or in a salad)

Vegetables I "tolerate":

zucchini
squash
lima beans
bell peppers
broccoli(cooked or raw)

Vegetables I dislike:

spinach(cooked)
turnip greens(cooked)
asparagus(cooked)
green peas
brussel sprouts
okra(cooked)

I prefer my spinach 'wilted' in salt and butter, it tastes great that way or as you said, in a salad or I choose spinach rather than lettuce, when I go to Subway.

I'm not a carrot fan at all, but will eat baby carrots, when cooked. I absolutely adore onions.....red onions are my faves, but will eat any. Corn has long been my favorite veggie, from my childhood. Carol fries or bakes eggplant with a breaded coating that is delicious. I won't touch, brussel sprouts or artichokes. cheeky sick smiley

Can you believe, I've never had either of those fried or in any other form, that I'm aware of. shocking

Last night, Carol and I ordered pizza from this little shop about 15 minutes away and we got a pizza I never thought I'd eat.....BLT. I'm not a huge fan of mayo, but this pizza is outstanding. groink! We also have them add onions for me. They make a very tasty hot-wing- pizza as well. Mr Green

A "BLT" pizza? ... freak out

I order pizza once a month(any more often and my doc would gripe at me) from Papa Johns. I usually order two(2) extra large pizzas, one the "chicken barbecue"(my favorite) and one the "garden variety". I can usually make these two pizzas last as leftovers out of my fridge for 2-3 days. groink!

Trust me, Lee, that was my initial reaction to such a pizza....until I tried it. Lordy, but that's yummy. They can't put too much mayo on it, though.

I had a slice of a broccoli/tomato pizza a couple of weeks ago, when we went to the mall and that was great, too.

I love bacon so much as well as onion, if I could eat a pizza with those two toppings, every day, I'd be as happy as a groink! in ****. Mr Green

That's about our normal pizza consumption for a month, too. I do love pizza, but Skeet could out-eat me on pizza any day of the week, that kids could eat it every single day and probably for two meals a day, too! tongue-1

Fortunately for me, my landlord, "Mrs. C", cooks lots of vegetables, mostly squash, green beans, black-eyed peas, and salads, along with cornbread. She also frequently makes pork chops and baked chicken. Needless to say I always accept any plates of food she leaves for me, which is about three times a week. groink!
