For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

She also frequently makes pork chops and baked chicken. Needless to say I always accept any plates of food she leaves for me, which is about three times a week.

That's a sweet deal and I'd accept a plate, too! Mr Green

Probably best I send it to you by FedEx Next day Air-any slower transit option, Kimi, and the contents of the plate might end up looking like the occasional leftovers I inadvertently leave in my girlfriend's refrigerator. tongue-1

Occasionally green and fuzzy?

Yeah...of course that's just the surrounding areas of the refrigerator, and not the food itself, which usually looks a lot worse. tongue-1
My girlfriend, Gloria, even threatened to throw one of these plates of forgotten leftovers at me once recently-needless to say I haven't been leaving any in her refrigerator since. shifty eyes

Don't think I;d risk a flying plate, myself! freak out

Last night, I made a very yummy meal, if I do say so, myself. tongue-1 Yesterday morning I put a roast in the crockpot and by 4:15PM, it was done, so I took it out, covered it with some foil and got busy making the gravy, mashed potatoes and steamed the sliced zuchinni and squash. Mr Green By the time Carol arrived home at 5:30PM, the table was set and the meal was ready to dig into. The roast was quite small, so not a lot of leftovers for 'sammiches', but plenty of gravy for bread and gravy, should we choose to eat that.

That wasn't, actually, the part I feared the most: it was the certain hard thump on the back of my head, delivered by her thumb and index finger, following the airborne plate. tongue-1

lol3 Peronsally, I have a fear of opening up a container that may have accidentally been shoved waaaaay back in the fridge and forgotten about. I have seen some pretty gross things in some people's fridges, in the past. cheeky sick smiley

My landlord, "Mrs. C", is a very good cook. One of my favorite dishes she makes: "jambalaya", a mix of spicy shrimp and white rice, with some kind of tangy sauce that she mixes in. Packmule's consumption of this = a groink! at the trough.

Here's link about jambalaya: http://www.gumbopages.com/food/jambalaya.html

Ever made this, Kimi?

Another recipe for food I like, one of many tongue-1 , is sometimes called "chicken bog" down here in the South, especially in South Carolina. It's fairly simple: get a large crock pot and cook lots of white rice, mixing in brown gravy and chunks of baked or grilled chicken. You can season as you like. It goes great with any kind of vegetables and bread. groink!

Sounds quite yummy, too.

I first ate "chicken bog" in 1982 while in college. IMO it's best with corn on the cob(with butter), and either steamed cabbage or green beans...and a large 32 oz. cup of iced tea. groink!

I love corn, one of my favorite veggies! I remember when I was a kid, local farms sold their corn on the cob in brown grocery bags and you could get 1 dozen for 50¢ to $1. groink!

Tonight, Carol and I are going to cheat a wee bit and have Stouffer's lasagna, for dinner. I think their lasagna is best, next to the homemade dish.

Ever gone out into a corn field and picked, then shucked corn? I have, when I was a kid, visiting a friend of my father's(he owned a large farm in South Georgia). It was lots of fun. thumbs up

Living in the country, you'd think I;d have done the actual picking on more than one occasion, but have only picked it, myself, once.

When I was about 7, I spent a week or so with my cousins and they lived next to a huge cornfielc and having recently watched, Planet of the Apes, we kids thought it would be great fun to play, POTA. We ran through the cornfield, much to the dismay of the owners. freak out

Yes, that thought did occur to me. tongue-1

I have never lived on a farm but I have spent a few weekends on farms, here and there, though not recently. I like the smells and sounds of a farm: a rooster cackling, chickens clucking, the smell of cow manure in a pasture, the sound of a tractor out in a field, cattle mooing, squealing pigs or the lower, throatier growls and snorts of hogs, and so forth. There are some downsides: you can't walk through a pasture very far before stepping in cow pies ( tongue-1 ), the rooster usually cackles very early, waking you up whether you want to be woken up or not, hogs are not always of benign disposition(as I found out once when one charged me) and the smell of accumulated horse manure in a barn can be overpowering if you're not used to it. freak out

The rooster you mention reminds me of my one supervisor at work. He was the funniest guy and always had me in stitches with his stories. He told how he worked on his Uncle's farm, every Summer vacation, as a kid and his Uncle had this one rooster that would do his thing bright and early every morning, which was OK< but would continue on for hours and hours after daybreak. Gary said his Uncle kept threatening to shoot the rooster and one morning, Gary was in the barn and the rooster was on a window that was a few feet above Gary's head, when the rooster suddenly began to cackle/crow and Gary said, suddenly there was this huge explosion and feathers came fluttering down.....his Uncle kept his promise and blew that rooseter away! freak out

Last night, Carol tried a different recipe, fried Ravioli. It was actually quite tasty. She took frozen ravioli and coated it with Italian bread crumbs and simply deep fried them and we dipped them in spaghetti sauce. Actually, it was quite good.

Actually, no! Some stuff Carol makes comes out really well, my Dad experiments a lot and I tell him he should make some of his stuff on a regular basis and he laughs and tells me, he never makes things the same way, twice. Mr Green

When I was still working at the plant, we used to be able to place a meat order, once a week and we could purchase almost or all cuts of meat done by the plant. Our department also made beef patties and one of my favorites was the sirloin patties, they were just too good to describe. groink! As for my burgers, I like...

Beef Patty
Onions
Bacon
Cheese
Relish (My Grandmother's homemade/canned relish)
Ketchup
Mustard
Pickles, on the side, please.

Yes, they offered a nice discount and then our meat orders were taken directly from our pay. On special holiday occasiona, mainly Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter, but perhaps 4th of July, they also offered 'deli' orders, where we could get anything from a case of bacon to NYC-style cheesecake.

When we head to Canada in September, I always have my ex-supervisor and one of my dearest friends, place an order for us, for a large ribeye and it makes for the greatest steaks and roast.....it's absolutely outstanding on the grill. Mr Green
