I got the impression that Barack Obama is seen as this "cool guy" that everyone is supposed to like and he seems to have a bigger pop culture following than the other candidates, and his demeanor gives me an impression similar to yours, Lee. I feel like people like him more based on his appearance than his political views, if you look around it seems alot of the Obama supporters are always holding posters and signs with images of his face and what not, it's kind of weird, you don't see that with the other candidates. One of the big problems I have with McCain is that he has said little about the situation in Iraq except say "we are going to continue there". Sorry pal, but that doesnt cut it, at least not for me. I'm pretty much on the fence with the whole democrat/republican thing but I'm sick of this republican good old boy shit with Bush, this war really deepened Cheney's pockets with the whole Halliburton thing and Bush's buddies Rumsfeld and L. Paul Bremer really screwed stuff up over there, while not listening to any of the Generals like they should have. I want some kind of plan for our agenda over there, and while Im not saying we should just pack and leave, the stance Mc Cain has taken seems lazy to me, I want more of an explanation from him, and the other candidates as well for that matter. My current evaluation of all three candidates on the Iraq war: cheeky sick smiley |

I haven't noticed that but I will be on the look out for that. It's certainly unusual. ![]() Agreed.
So am I. It all started, honestly, when Dubya's old man, himself a former President, helped his son get out of serving regular military service in Vietnam. Dubya has had that silver spoon in his mouth, and up his ass, ever since. Indeed. Too bad Dickie boy didn't invest some of his wealth in new glasses so he wouldn't blast birdshot into his hunting buddy's shoulder. I got the impression from listening to Donald Rumsfeld talk that this man honestly believes his sh*t doesn't stink. Agreed. I have to wonder if John McCain's political advisors have told him to take a "safe" stance on the Iraq War issue, simply wording his stance as a continuation of Dubya's actions. confused My current evaluation of the three candidates: McCain is shaky at best and the two Dem candidates are both undesirables, IMO, for the oval office. |

There ARE justifications for the war: Iraq has been violating human rights, killing innocent people for years, treating women like dirtclods, torturing citizens. Mr. Bush has reasons, despite what the left-wing media want's you to think. |

...Mr. Smythe you can expect a reply from either KexMex and/or Slainmonkey to your last post. Just a reminder, gentlemen(and that includes myself), to keep things civil. Thanks. :) |

All of the things you mention, Smythe, are bad and have been going on in Iraq. Are they justification for invading and occupying Iraq? I'm inclined to say no. Hell, if we use human rights violations as an excuse to invade a country, then we'd already have attacked China or North Korea, to name two countries who are, and have been, historically, countries with a poor track record for human rights. As for your other observations, like the mistreatment of women, the killing of innocent people and the torture of their own citizens, this kind of thing has gone on, again historically speaking, in many countries. I'm not, in any way, condoning these things. Invading a country as a reaction to them is not, IMO, the solution. ;) |

Believe me, media bias has been painting things black & white. If you look at what they did to citizens for years before the war, Bush has plenty of justification. I respect the man and think he recieves WAY too much criticisms. It's just like the Vietnam War. |

Plus, the economy problem is NOT Bush's fault, it's the businesses that decide to do those decision's fault. The oil companies are at fault for rising oil prices. They want too much, it's NOT bush's fault. What's next? Blaming the bad weather on Bush? |

There is always the so-called "media bias", be it the "left" media bias which Republicans whine about while their elected President is in office...or the "right wing" media bias which Democrats complain about when their elected President is in the oval office. Anyone with a working knowledge of Iraq's history, in modern times, knows about the general mistreatment of women and Saddam Hussein enriching himself and living like a king while much of his own people lived like paupers, many having to scrape by on a meager existence and barely able to feed themselves. Hussein was hanged for war crimes Smythe: he ordered the gassing of a group of people in the Kurdish region of Iraq, circa 1982. These were people of his own country. He was, by definition, a despot. My definition of him might have been something a lot worse. Personally, I was glad to see this sorry son of a bitch hung by the gallows. He got what he deserved. That said I still do not think the U.S. should have invaded Iraq. Every U.S. president receives criticism, and a lot of it. It comes with the job. KexMex would like the resurrection of this thread, I think. Where the hell is he?

Bush and Cheney both had alot of special interests that benefitted them personally by invading Iraq. Cheney had, to say the least, a big share in Halliburton, the company who won a no-bid contract to supply food, fuel, and transport in Iraq. This contract, needless to say, netted Cheney millions. And the most bitter part of it all was that they were paying civilians, many who simply pumped gas, 3 to 4 times the amount of a U.S. Army private who risked his neck daily on the streets of Baghdad. This war has cost us billions, Smythe, and the only ones making out like bandits are the big stockholders with shares in war interests. If you don't think this misled war has led to problems in our economy Smythe, you need to do some research. |

Check out this video of Barack Obama brushing aside a female reporter's question, even referring to her as "sweetie": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4STLISLdxi4 If this jackass is elected U.S. president you can expect more of this same kind of arrogant condescension towards American citizens...especially the kind who make up the blue collar ranks. |

I heard amazing news he's in Casual Chat, not caring. I won't bother too much with this thread because I doubt I'd be able to keep a civil discussion in a thread regarding Bush and, by not a long stretch, the Iraq war. Plus, given that the topic is pretty hot due to the coming American election, this is not my discussion. Any post solely responding to mine will be pretty pointless. I just clarified why I haven't minded this thread. |

Bleh. Why not? You've always struck me as a fairly level headed person and not given to emotional outbursts(like a certain admin around here at Toho Kingdom two years ago ) I can accept that statement as fair. Consider me sufficiently clarified.

This upcoming election might be the first time I vote for a vice president rather than a president. I'm equally disappointed in both candidates in all honesty. When Obama Started off I was really behind him and his message of change. His ideas behind change. His motivation of change. Then after a while of hearing change I realized he doesn't have a plan. Then McCain who has been my favorite republican because of him standing up for his own beliefs and reaching across party lines. Now he seems like Bush's other brother. So I'm going on Vice Pres. I've always liked what I've heard of on Biden. He is the only democrat who seems to have a plan for the Middle East other than "Get out" (yeah, let's invade them, crush any form of government and botch things up AND THEN leave. They'll love that). This Alaskan lady... haven't heard too much about. Seems like McCain picked her out of a quick decision to win a popularity contest. Either she's going to have to speak up and prove to me that she's worth my vote and not just a ploy or Biden will have to botch up royally by abandoning his ideals. I'm not interested in the young hip 20 something looking guy and the old gruff 80 something looking guy playing for my attention. I'd like a serious debate not a popularity contest. |

It still seems surreal that John McCain picked Sarah Palin as his veep running mate. I thought for sure it would be that guy Pawlenty or Mitt Romney. I've read about her career. So far I've seen nothing that would suggest to me she is qualified, or capable, of running the U.S. should something happen to McCain. |
