Well, it is that time of year again. Some like saying thank you all day and some want to spend 25 days celebrating a dietys' birthday, but nothing is quite like celebrating scary shit. And out of the month of Halloween comes the first of two "official" topics I am making. The first one is on the scream series:

Posted Image

Set to revive the slasher series into goodness in the 90's, a time where Freddy was dead and Jason was handed to Freddy's House, Wes Craven made a film where teenagers thought it was the ultimate horror film and older fans thought an over-hyped film that was not a masterpiece, let alone a classic. But the series has become a cult phenomenon. 3 films have been made, with an announced 2 more coming on the way in 2010 and 2012.

The story fallows a girl named Sindy, who mother was killed and has for almost half a decade has been haunted by many killers all wearing a "Ghost Face" mask.

The film did what it set out to do and reestablish dominance in the box office for the slasher genre and has since had classic spoofs like "Shriek if you know what I did Last friday the 13" (you thought GMK was tough!) and "Scary Movie" (Wazz Up!) including a cameo in Robot Chicken.

So, what do you have to say about this movie series that have become as recognizable as Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, and even the crap fest Friday the 13?

I've been hearing rumors that if Neve Campbell doesn't return, then they plan to kill Sydney Prescott off. I think that's pretty much the stupidest idea ever.

I was excited about this when I first heard about it. Especially after hearing that Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson would be back. But I'm starting to get a bad feeling about it. It seems all but confirmed that Sid's gonna get offed. That's just gonna leave a bad taste in my mouth and ruin the whole movie for me. It boggles my mind that they can't simply say that she lived happily ever after and leave the character alone. If they want to bring back Dewey and Gail, fine by me. Throw them together with some new characters and a new young heroine and we're good.

Well that's a relief. I was going to watch it anyway, but I'd be pretty pissed off if they had actually killed off Sid.

Very, very good. I just hope it will be able to top another documentry which I have seen recently - NEVER SLEEP AGAIN: THE NIGHTMARE LEGACY. Better than the Halloween: 25 Years Later and the horrendeous HIS NAME WAS JASON documentry. Also heard alittle bit on the HELLRAISER documentry. Heard that it will be concerning the different concepts and messages within the films instead of the making of the films. Interesting.

Well, Kevin Williamson wrote the screenplay for S4. And Wes is directing. Only thing to be wary of is that Ehren Kruger is doing re-write, something which if I was Craven I would just yell out "Get that mo**** f***** off my set!" and throw my chair in a space by Krueger. Do not need him ruining another film.

Some would argue that THE RING 2's failure was more or less his fault. Along with that, SCREAM 3 is not fondly looked at. And I understand why. While Kevin Williamson had other engaguements (which is also the reason why he himself isn't doing the rewrites for SCREAM 4) and leaving only notes, left the project to be hired on by Ehren Krueger. Lots of fans do not like Scream 3 as much as the first two. The third film stirred away alot from the formula of the previous films, mad up a bogous character which we haven't seen before and yet the characters act like they have seen her before (the sister of the cinefile dude from the first two films), and that originaly Stu from the first film was to come back (Ghostface.co.uk mentioned something about it and I wouldn't doubt the NEVER-SLEEP-AGAIN-esque documentry on the series that is comming out would be able to shed more light on that). But just a bunch of weird stuff. Just isn't someone who should be toying with the scream series or anything that isn't his own for that matter.

I hope this is good. I don't expect it to beat the first one, but I'd be happy if it was better than the 2nd and 3rd ones.

^Thank goodness I stoped looking at the pics after a while. Anything else I saw was either on TV (which just goes to show that the Weinsteins doctored the clips - for good reason) or in the pages of Entertainment Weekly (cleanly tore out the pages with coverage and blatantly took the issue with Ghostface on the cover - free memorabilia rocks. Just wait for the DVD poster).

That being said, thanks to saving up all cash and making a few moves at school, I was finaly able to see the film in theatres (my first rated R film also, yay). Let me say that it by far the best of the sequels. Only thing which would have made it perfect was if it was 15 minutes longer with more character drama not involving Ghostface and if Randy could come back (which won't happen... once you're dead and have a random sybling we never knew about and yet Sidney accted like they knew about eachother, you're dead).

If you have the $$$, you may want to go see it in theatres. Great entertainment from one of the best slasher films in years (because you know... the remakes) and help keep the Weinsteins and their slasher properties in some kind of light (Halloween 2 bombed...).
