The second post I talked about when I made the scream thread. This movie series is so legendary, so talked about, and somade fun of that this film actualy challenged Freddy for his popularity points, despite being older.

This all started when a producer wanted to make a movie, and hired John Carpenter to direct and Deborah Hill to help write and Moustapha Akkad to executive produce. The film was a slow earner at first, but then grew into the start of the slasher films, unlike the Phyco films and the Texas Chain Saw Massacre which while successful sadly did not have enough fule and fire to start the slasher genre explosion.

Since the classic, we have gotten more classics like H2, H4, and the remake. Sadly, H5, H20, and H:R were disappointing. But before I end, I want to also mention the standalone film:

My second favorite film in the series, tied with H4 and before H1

Still only seen the first. Is the Rob Zombie film worth watching? I know there's a lot of controversy over it, so I thought I'd get a couple of opinions here.

Obviously that's a matter of opinion, sir. Having seen both the original and the Rob Zombie remake(I have both on DVD) I would recommend you watch the remake, as a rental as opposed to buying the DVD of the film. I believe the remake could be hit or miss with fans of the 1978 original. I liked the remake but not as much as the classic "Halloween" film. winky

Thanks for the advice. I don't expect to like it as much as the original, but it does look like it's worth watching.

The trailer for the Zombie directed "Halloween" film:

Make no mistake, in the remake you'll see Michael Myers doing what he does: going slap off on people, slashing, stabbing, blasting and jacking up plenty of unfortunate victims. Zombie, IMO, can deliver over the top violence with the best of them. winky

When I first saw the remake I gave it an 1.5/10, however after seeing it a second time I give it now a 3/10, so watch it and see what you think of it.

Any chance you'd rate it a 4.5/10 after watching this movie a third time? tongue-1

I still haven't seen it. I love the original and I feel if/when I do see it I'll be constantly comparing it to Carpenter's masterpiece.

RZH, while not a masterpiece, acomplishes what it was ment to do: Be diffrent from the original. And I like the film. It is my third fave, tied with H2. The mask is kick ass, Danny Trejo was kick ass, and the new phycology stand points of Michael and his sister (more about the sister in the audio commentary) is interesting. In fact, the sequel may just be what the audio commentary hinted at: Laurie strode, being blood related to Michael, may take his place as the Haddonfield Slasher, due to being freaked out by the events of the first film and since blood related, might develop the same phycosis as Michael.

Here is how I rate the films:

H1
h4/h3
rzh/h2
h6/h20
h5

Blackdeath0001 gave it a 1.5/10, he usually likes the remakes of films, but he really disliked Rob Zombie's Version of Halloween.

I can say that I was able to watch Zombie's take on Michael Myers without comparing it to the 1978 original...well, almost. MikeyMyers

First time I got results as low as yours when I ask the question about not comparing the two films (remember, I do belong to the official Halloween message board under the name 1978 Collector)

One of the installments in the "Halloween" movie series gets generally criticized as being a poor film but, like other so called "poor" films, I like it a lot. I'm referring to Halloween III: Season Of The Witch(1982). I remember seeing this film in the theater while I was in college. I have this film on R1 DVD and enjoy watching it from time to time. Admittedly, no Michael Myers is a bummer and Tom Atkins is not the greatest actor in the world but the film has some really nasty scenes and a truly despicable bad guy in "Cochran". Here's one of my favorite scenes from this film:

I like H3 a lot. It was original, and it was the last Carpenter involved film. And with Tommy Lee Wallace at helm, no doubt Carpenter influenced the film a little more than the score.

It's sad you know, I heard there are some extended scenes of some of the deaths in H3. But no one knows where they are... Maybe on the UK or Spain disc...

Halloween 2 was good. In fact, it was verry close to beating the original. If only John and Howard did not go with a more synth-powered score and kept with the piano. Keep the Synths to Carp's 80's flicks...

I actualy use to like it alot. Mostly because it was unofficialy my first Halloween film I had seen (I only saw the shocking ending though). But once I saw more of the series and I had more brains on the subject of Myers, H20's inperfections stood out to me and well, I do not like it as much as I used to. Tied with number six as next to the last faveorite.

Well, I heard off of OHMB that Rob isn't coming back. But I like it that they kept the mask. I just hope Halloween 2 is going to be better than this new horror remake: My Bloody Valentine 3D

Not sure what to say about this series. It went downhill after Pt. 4 for me but, Pt. 5 while, sloppily directed and written is still entertaining. As for the remake i say it was much better than anything after Pt. 4 for sure!

Agreed. I like Rob Zombie's films like House Of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects but I didn't think I'd like his take on the "Halloween" franchise. I wouldn't call his remake of Halloween a masterpiece by any stretch of the imagination but I thought it was fairly solid.
