I'm wishing Kimbo luck as well. I think he became a victim of his own youtube videos as expectations got unrealistically high and EliteXC banked their whole company existence on his success. It wasn't a good place to be for a new fighter but he dealt with it well and maintained a level of professionalism and dignity throughout. He's in there with a few other familiar faces as well such as Wes Sims and Roy Nelson. I'd like to see Sims make a successful return to the UFC as well.

Josh Barnett has tested positive for the use of anabolic steroids and will not be given a licsense by the California state athletic commission. Affliction CEO Tom Atencio is scrambling to replace Barnett for the August 1st fight with Fedor Emelianenko:

It's still on for August 15th and will be televised on showtime as promoted by Strikeforce. The co-main event was supposed to be a heavyweight title matchup between Alistair Overeem and Fabricio Werdum but Overeem's nagging hand injury is going to keep him out of yet another title defense...Werdum's replacement opponent is supposed to be announced soon.

Wow...big news. Affliction has cancelled it's August 1st "Trilogy" event in Anaheim CA, and has also announced it is ending fight promotion and will now simply remain an event sponsor for other promotions:
http://www.sherdog.com/news/news/update-affliction-cancels-trilogy-18705

This is really bad for everyone involved: The fighters miss out on getting paid for their fights, the fans lose out on a much desired event, and the MMA world just got a little bit smaller, with Dana White and the Fertitta brothers UFC monopoly getting even stronger. This isn't something I wanted to see. Hopefully all of Affliction's fighters will be able to quickly find work with either the UFC or Strikeforce.

Did you agree with that list? I actually did for the most part...would've done some shuffling around, though. There were a couple people missing that should've made the list as well. As much of an impact Frank Shamrock has made, I'm not really sure he should be on that list over his brother. I also think Matt Hughes was ranked a liitle high.

I concur: I believe Ken Shamrock was more deserving of being on that list than his brother, who was obviously also a great fighter in his own right. I also agree with you that Matt Hughes is ranked a little high. I do agree with this lists' pick for number one: Randy Couture. thumbz up

Not technically MMA news but it's sad nevertheless: former professional boxer Vernon Forrest is dead at 37, shot to death in the Sunday overnight AM hours during an attempted carjacking-robbery. The link: http://www.ajc.com/news/atlanta/pro-boxer-vernon-forrest-100822.html?cxntlid=homepage_tab_newstab

I see this kind of stuff posted at AJC.com(the website for Atlanta's newspaper) every day: carjackings, shootings, bank and smash and grab robberies, muggings and other violence.

The police department in Atlanta is understaffed. That, coupled with an economy that is being blamed for the spike in property crimes and home invasion-robberies, as well as choking traffic, is one reason why I believe the city of Atlanta is going to hell in a hand basket.

Wow...just another sad case of violence in the sports world. It seems to be getting more and more common. I've heard alot of bad things about the crime rate in Atlanta...hopefully I won't experience it firsthand when I visit there next month. Although I should be spending most of the time in Peachtree.

Heavyweight brawler Jeff Monson was punished quite heavily for his act in defacing government property:
