This kind of thing might bother me sometimes, but I really agree with it in this case.

"As a trademark owner, one of the requirements is to police your mark to ensure that it does not become generic, that it does not become a common word for any fire-breathing monster," says Aaron Moss, a Toho attorney in Los Angeles. "If you don't, the trademark becomes devalued and hard to enforce."

Godzilla deserves more respect than he gets.

While I have often considered some of Toho's efforts, through lawsuits, to protect their Godzilla copyright over the top I have absolutely no problem with the fact this company is simply protecting their rights to a character, property in essence, that was created by Toho and owned by them legally. winky

By "over the top" I mean "overly aggressive" in that Toho, IMO and in certain situations, initiated lawsuits that were not warranted in order to address what this company perceived as copyright infringement of the Godzilla character. winky

^Packmule, Godzilla needs and requires that kind of stuff. GINO was bad, Megalon opened Hell's threash holds, and all made the idea of Godzilla a bad one in the US. If on a scale, Godzilla only has 20% of it's dignity left. They need to keep it that way, if not better.

As I mentioned in another post I have absolutely no problem with Toho protecting their copyright on the Godzilla character. I just think that in a few instances Toho exhibited some questionable judgment in taking legal action to protect their property from copyright infringement.

An example of what I consider a justified action by Toho: there was mention in the article I posted about Toho's lawyers that the Yankee Stadium concessions produced and distributed a "Godzilla" hand held doll to fans in NY. The doll closely resembled Godzilla(down to the back dorsals): this is clearly an infringement on Toho's property because they did not give permission to Yankee Stadium concessions to make and sell this doll, which coincided with the signing of a player to the Yankees roster from Japan, Hideki Matsui, who is nicknamed "Godzilla". The NY Yankees front office thought making and selling this doll would be appealing to fans and it was. It was also copyright infringement.

An example of what I consider an unnecessary legal action(lawsuit) by Toho: a Subway commercial promoting Subway sandwiches briefly(for a few seconds) shows a large dinosaur or reptilian like creature and a woman who, looking at the creature, shrieks. Toho sued the parent company of Subway for copyright infringement, obviously believing the creature in this commercial could be viewed as Godzilla. To me that's a stretch. winky

IMO Toho needs to cool down a little, while I respect that their only protecting their Icon, I think that they are been a bit too aggressive, I hope Toho doesnt sue me and Blackdeath0001 for making the Anguirus and Megalon Adventures.

That subway commercial needed to be taken care of. It contributes to the Godzilla stereotype, not the true Godzilla.

Thread drift: Ken Hulsey of Robo Japan has, based on the "Monster Island" website's internal search engine, determined the top ten monsters of 2008, based on the site's search engine "hits": http://robojapan.blogspot.com/2008/12/top-ten-hottest-monsters-of-2008.html

Are you referring to the movie scenario between these two monsters...or the figures of the two monsters?

If you're referring to the battle scenario, I would side with Godzilla coming out the winner. sickko

I'm with Gamera. Battling a kaiju just as powerfull as Legion at half the height (and shorter than Gamera), Gamera would use the mana blast. I am prety sure that Earth's energy is more powerful than nuclear energy.

:P

But now, back on topic...
