Two film genres that inspired quientin tarantino is Samurai films and Westerns. Well the two films meet in a way. Seven Samurai in, except for the original Gojira, the most popular Japanese movie internationaly. The film has been remade countless times. The first one was called the Magnificent Seven. I have since seen both films. And I want to ask you, which one is better?

G2K, these are both classic films, both made decades ago. My point: because of their age and because they are so genre specific there's a very good chance this topic thread isn't going to go very far. I myself cannot comment because I've only seen The Magnificent Seven(1960). winky

This message board has about 10-12 active members, most of who are working adults(including myself). That means that unless every one of the active members here is a movie buff chances are they haven't seen both of these films.

One of the reasons I no longer create topic threads about single films is because so many of the ones I made in the early days of this message board petered out after 10-15 posts(or less).

My suggestion is this: before you start a poll the next time, check with me on the topic of the poll. I'll probably recommend you simply post the poll question as a question within the appropriate forum.

If this topic doesn't go anywhere I'm going to delete it. Many message boards are littered with dozens of these poll topics that go nowhere. Mine isn't going to be one of them. winky

Check with me next time, pal. Mr. Smiles

Within in the next 2 months, be expecting more residents who are about my age group. I am going out on the street... AKA I am going to start inviting Goji friends from youtube (76 friends and still counting...)

I'm not upset at you for making this thread: I just feel some frustration because I've seen so many of these topic threads flame out quickly.

Nothing would please me more than having more active members around here. That said I also appreciate those that are already active here, and I want to make sure I continue to work to make them want to keep coming back. winky

I think highly of The Magnificent Seven(1960) and personally consider it one of the best westerns I've ever seen.

In fact, The Magnificent Seven made it to two of the top 100 lists of the AFI (American Film Institute). That is saying alot, and it is doing good, alot more than what the normal remake does.

The Seven Samurai is one of the finest films ever made. And excellent director (Kurosawa) and a fine cast. And let's not forget that The Seven Samurai inspired The Magnificent Seven.

Besides, everyone knows samurai are way cooler than cowboys. ;)

*Bows Deeply to Ro-Dan*

There would have never been The Magnificent Seven, had Seven Samurai not been made.

....for the record,Kurosawa made much better films than Shichinin no samurai, but Hollywood chose to make it's own simulacrum of this classic...
...in a "bigbudget" way...both are well done.

Owning both of these great films,I still find myself attracted more to Seven Samurai, than The Magnificent Seven.

But you guys knew I'd say that anyhow.

Any body seen Yojimbo/Last Man Standing???

I have seen Yojimbo and Rashamon. And so far, I like Rashamon the most. I really want to see Kagemusha and Ran, since they seem the most visualy appealing and not to mention said to be by Kurosawa fans his best films, better than Seven Samurai.
