Revenge of the Creature. Surprisingly good sequel to Creature From the Black Lagoon. I liked it almost as much as the first. When I get a chance I'll watch the third one, The Creature Walks Among Us.

I have Creature From The Black Lagoon(1954) on DVD-R and also the "Legacy Collection" DVD. It's a classic horror film that has stood the test of time. I have seen the two follow ups and actually like the third and final installment, The Creature Walks Among Us, better than the second movie. Sadly, Ben Chapman, who wore the creature suit(in the non-underwater scenes), passed away last year.

Note: Crow, I edited the by line of the topic title to include the discussion of all three of Universal's "Creature" films. I hope you don't mind. Mr. Smiles

A promo preview of the film:

Julia Adams was a real hottie! I can see why the creature would want to snatch her away for himself. tongue-1

No problem. Mr. Smiles

Another thing I should mention is that this is Clint Eastwood's first movie. I read some trivia that mentioned this before I watched the film, so I was able to notice him as a lab assistant.

Here's a promo preview of The Creature Walks Among Us(1956):

I liked the plot for this film. Scientists tried to "humanize" the monster and partially succeeded, the creature's appearance decidedly different. What wasn't different was the monster's overall disposition, as the creature's actions in the trailer clearly illustrate: the monster blasts his way through doors and walls as if they weren't even there. freak out

Holy crap. They should have just left the gill man alone. That looks pretty harsh what they did to him. I hope he grows his gills back and returns home in the end. Don't tell me though. I'm sure I'll find out soon enough when I watch it.

Just watched The Creature Walks Among Us. Recognized Rex Reason from This Island Earth. He's a cool actor.

EDIT: Didn't realize it until I looked him up on imdb, but Jeff Morrow was also in This Island Earth. He played Exeter.

I thought this one was a lot more ambitious than either the first movie or the first sequel. But I don't think it ever quite achieved what it set out to do. There's a lot of potential here, but room for improvement.

The gill man is a great creature. I haven't seen enough Universal monsters to know if it's my favorite, though. I still need to see The Woflman, Dracula, The Mummy, and I guess the Invisible Man counts.

Apparently so great, Crow that he's inspired a musical: http://robojapan.blogspot.com/2009/03/creature-from-black-lagoon-musical.html

Haha, that's awesome. I hope it is as well received as the Evil Dead music.

I love the "Creature from the Black Lagoon". However I do think that the sequel "Revenge of the Creature" is a little slow to get going. I usually watch it with MST3K. I would like to see "The Creature Walks Among Us". However, just looking at the premise, I can't help but wonder, why? This creature has proven himself to be quite homicidal, just leave him alone!! lol. Oh well, I still want to see it.

I can understand your disdain at the premise for The Creature Walks Among Us. Still, I found the third "Creature" installment more entertaining than the second film. Like you I fully expected, after watching the first two of these movies, the monster to remain hostile, even after he was surgically altered. winky
