All right, here's the deal. A little over a year ago I began writing an Ultraman fanfic about Ultraman Pole, an original creation. As time passed, this story grew in length until it reached its nineteenth chapter. However, due to business with school and other elements in my life, I put the project on the shelf until later. Now I figure I might as well post what I've got so far and let you see it anyway.

Please be reminded, however, that I have not edited the story. Numerous inconsistencies or just odd mistakes may pop up; this is a raw product. I don't really care. I am, however, hardly worried that the mistakes are in spelling.

A BRIEF TIMELINE-----------------------------
1933: First confirmed "giant monster", King Kong, rampages through New York.

1954: History's most devastating monster attack occurs when the nuclear dinosaur Godzilla attacks Tokyo. Following the incident, the first dedicated anti-Kaiju force, Terrestrial Defense Force, is formed. Subsidiaries of this included the Japanese "Science Patrol", and later Ultra Garrison, M.A.T and others.

1960: Monster attacks increase in frequency. As a response to this, an island in the vicinity of Japan was made into a "conservation" to allow the study of monsters. Monsters taking residence upon this large island would come to include Godzilla, Anguirus, Rodan, Gabara, Gamera, Red King, Chandlar, and many more.

1965: During the attacks of the alien invader Goa, the first giant "superhero", Ambassador Magma, appears to defend the Earth.

1966: The world's most famous giant superhero, Ultraman, first appears on Earth.

1960s and further: Due to Earth becoming an object of desire for many alien invaders and monsters, numerous Ultrans and other giants such as Zone Fighter, Jet Jaguar and Fireman, gather together to protect the blue planet.

2009: The modern Japanese anti Kaiju force, the All Monster Attack team, is formed alongside the American M-Force, the British Disaster Operation Group and the Swedish Catastrophe Action Team.

2044: Present.

EPISODE I: ULTRAMAN POLE EMERGES!

March 30th, 2044

A streak of light blazed through the emptiness of space. It traveled with blinding speed, way beyond any possible human construct. And it traveled towards Earth.
The glowing, speeding light was an Ultran, a member of the race of proud defenders from the Land of Light. His name was Ultraman Pole. He was silver and blue in color, unlike the silver/red color scheme typical for the Ultrans.
It’s my turn now, he thought. We’ve been defending Earth time and time again. Ultraseven wanted me to go, so they’ve got to trust me this time.
The young Ultran remembered when he followed Ultraman Jack on a brief mission to planet Axter III, and nearly foiled the entire mission by trying to take on the Baltan invader alone. But that was a long time ago, and Pole had trained hard since then to avoid such a mistake.
And, finally his mentor Ultraseven had admitted him ready to get out on his own to defend a terrestrial nation.
On his way to Earth, Pole noticed that far away, another energy signature was also racing towards the planet. Not knowing what it was, Pole decided to follow it. He increased his speed, blazing past Sol’s outer planets one by one. Close to Earth, he could finally see the other being. However, to his horror he found that it was a monster, a slimy big-handed creature curled up into a ball. Additionally, Pole’s speed was too high to evade it. Inevitably, they collided, and both tumbled down through Earth’s atmosphere, crashing down into a forest. Dizzy, Pole tried to spot the monster. The monster had crashed somewhere else. Now, he had to find it. He had a lot to prove.

C.A.T HQ, Stefansborg, Sweden

“ATTENTION!” boomed Captain Emelie Svärd angrily at the C.A.T team. “When I want you to listen, I want you to LISTEN!” She glared at them, but Casper Pedersen just smiled.
“Relax, Cap”, he said. “I think everyone understood the mission the first time.”
“That’s not the point”, hissed Emelie. “You’re not taking this seriously enough. It is highly possible that the two craters, since they’re empty, were caused by monsters from space, which would make this the first monster event in four years. WE are the ones responsible to find out, and if I’m right, we’re also to dispose of them or in any way make sure they remain harmless. So why are you so calm?”
“Because monsters just don’t appear here”, Tanja Oskarsson replied. “We’ve had one monster in Sweden, while Japan has encountered hundreds. Craters are not enough to convince me.”
“Well, go out and prove me wrong, then”, Emelie said. And there wasn’t much else to it. The four C.A.T pilots, Tanja, Casper, Johan Hallén and Peter Ström left the meeting room to go to the team’s specialized jet planes. Emelie remained in her chair, attempting to remain calm.
“Please let me be wrong”, she mumbled.

In the north outskirts of Stefansborg, Peter Ström of C.A.T was flying low. He didn’t at all worry about any monsters. Tanja was right, Sweden never had monsters. In his opinion, C.A.T wasn’t at all necessary. But it was still a decent job.
Suddenly, he heard a loud roaring sound coming from Oskarsberg Valley. Startled, he contacted the others.
“Attention C.A.T unit. Calling C.A.T unit, please respond!”
“I’m here”, Johan lazily responded.
“What’s up?” Casper asked.
“Found something?” Tanja asked.
“I heard a loud noise from Oskarsberg Valley. I’m going to investigate it.”
“Roger that”, Casper said.
Peter flew straight for the valley, and was there in no time. He was worried now, because the valley wasn’t far from one of the craters. Prepared for the worst, he made a sharp turn around the hills… and screamed in terror as a wave of flames engulfed his aircraft.

“Peter? Peter, please respond! Peter, are you all right? Please respond, Peter!”
Tanja nervously kept calling, but no response came.
“Let’s go see what happened”, Johan suggested. Casper and Tanja agreed, and they all turned, from their varying locations, to go to Oskarsberg Valley.

Peter was injured, but he thought he’d be dead soon. He could see the gigantic beast crouching down above him, but he was unable to move with his hurt leg. It was muscular and hunchbacked, and had two very large hands with long claws on each finger. It had a long, thin tail which was constantly whipping around violently. The eyes were barely visible, but its steaming mouth was like a gigantic toothed black hole, and it was closing in…
Suddenly, a blue light appeared and knocked the monster away. Peter tried to see what happened, but he couldn’t see very clearly. The light slammed against the monster twice, but before it could strike again, the monster burst into flames. But when Peter looked closely, he saw that the beast was actually TRANSFORMING into flames, and these flames scattered away into the air. He could not see the blue light.
Hello”, he suddenly heard. Looking up, he saw a human-sized being who looked much like a superhero in his costume. The being was blue with a silver pattern, and its head looked like a metallic helmet with a mask on it. On its chest, it had a V-shaped mark that glowed light blue, though it seemed somewhat faded.
“Er… who… what are you?” Peter stuttered.
I am Ultraman Pole. I’m an Ultran from the Land of Light somewhere in… er, I’m not good with astronomy. That direction, anyway”, he said, pointing in a seemingly random location in the sky.
“That monster…” Peter said. “Something chased it off… was it you?”
Yes”, Pole nodded. “I regret I was unable to finish him off, but that would probably not be possible even if he stayed here. The monster was called Fuegosaurus, in case you wondered. But, human, I have a favor to ask of you. A very big favor.
“A favor?” Peter frowned.
Yes. You see, this planet’s atmosphere is very straining on me, and I won’t be able to use my fullest ability unless I find a human host. If you would let me inhabit your body, I’m pretty sure it would benefit both of us. In return, I can settle the score with this monster for you."
Peter was stunned, but then he remembered the video recordings he was shown by the A.M.A members when he was visiting their HQ during a cooperative mission in Japan. Recordings showing the titanic heroes called Ultrans. None like them had ever appeared in Sweden, but Peter realized one was talking to one at this very moment.
“Will it… hurt?” Peter asked.
Not one bit. Quite the opposite, really”, Pole said cheerfully. “So you agree?"
“Yes”, Peter said. Not a second later, Pole seemed to turn transparent, and finally dissolve into several energy particles, which entered Peter’s chest. Peter felt his injuries heal rapidly, and heard Pole’s voice in his head.
Thank you, friend”, he said. “Take a look at your left arm.” Peter didn’t understand, but looked at his arm, where he to his surprise saw a silver/blue bracelet.
If you ever need me”, he heard Pole say, “Here’s what you do…"

Having seen nothing else than Peter’s crashed craft, Johan, Casper and Tanja landed nearby and ran as fast as they could to the crash site.
“Peter!” Casper shouted. “You there? You ok?”
“Better than ever”, they heard. Peter ran up to them, and he looked healthy for one who just crashed a jet plane.
“What happened?” Tanja said. “Was there a monster here?”
“Yes”, Peter said. “He shot my plane down, but he was chased off.”
“Chased off?” Johan frowned. “By whom?” Peter smiled.
“Ultraman”, he said.
“Ultraman?” Casper repeated.
“Yes, Ultraman. Or Ultraman Pole, specifically. He saved me from the Fuegosaurus.”
“Fuegosaurus?” Tanja said. “You’ve got a lot of explaining to do.” Peter nodded.
“Let’s head for HQ”, he said. “I’ll tell everything I know there.”

Back at C.A.T HQ, Peter explained the event, but he didn’t mention Pole merging with him. Captain Emelie was in a bad mood before, but she was really frustrated now.
“We have a monster. Splendid!” she said, angrily. “Where can it be?”
“I have no idea”, Peter said. “I suppose we can’t do much else than wait for it to appear.”
“That’s not good enough for me”, Emelie said. “We’ve got to find it, somehow.”
“Oh, we’ve found it, alright”, Casper said. “It’s in Törnholmen. The sensors all detect immense activity there.”
“What!?” Emelie said. “Get moving! Get the planes and bring that thing down!” This time, C.A.T reacted immediately, running to the HQ’s little airfield. All pilots entered their specialized C.A.T planes and flew away to the suburb known as Törnholmen. Peter, who wouldn’t have any plane for the time being, took a car to drive there instead.

Fuegosaurus bellowed, causing even more thundering noise than the screaming humans running from him. He opened his mouth and fired a heat beam at an office building nearby. The beam destroyed the side of the building, while his whipping tail slammed asunder a gas station. He shot another beam, destroying a small house, but before he could proceed with his destruction spree, three jet planes appeared to challenge him.
“C.A.T unit, scatter”, Casper said, being the combat leader. “Keep distance between each other and fire at will.”
Tanja flew up in front of Fuegosaurus, and with a triumphant howl she unleashed a barrage of laser beams at the monster. Fuegosaurus took a step back, but was largely unaffected by the assault and fired his heat beam, but Tanja flew out of the way. Instead, Johan appeared, firing beam after beam at Fuegosaurus’ left shoulder, while Casper did the same to his back. The monster circled around in confusion until it finally caught sight on Johan’s jet and fired its heat beam. The beam hit the rear of the airplane.
“Damn, I’m hit!” Johan shouted, and quickly ejected his seat, flying out of the crashing plane and landing safely with a parachute.

Peter arrived to the site a while later, and saw his comrades fighting against the merciless monster.
“Can you defeat that thing?” he mumbled.
Yes, I can”, Pole replied. “Transform and I’ll take care of it.
Peter nodded, and held his left forearm up in the air and put his right hand on the bracelet. The bracelet began to glow, and soon a big silver and blue light appeared around him. When it was gone, Peter was replaced by a giant Ultraman Pole, ready for battle against the Fuegosaurus.
Fuegosaurus noticed this new foe, and bellowed at him. Pole struck a battle pose, and the steaming beast charged him. Pole sidestepped Fuegosaurus and karate-chopped its back, sending it tumbling into a park. Fuegosaurus rose up quickly, though, and charged again. He grabbed Pole, and the two grappled for a while until Pole managed to toss Fuegosaurus to the ground yet again. He then lifted the monster up and threw it to the nearby forest, away from the civilized area. Jumping after, he was almost immediately tripped up by Fuegosaurus’ giant hand. While getting up, Pole was hit by the heat beam, but he managed to rise to his feet anyway. He charged at Fuegosaurus, and slammed the monster’s chest. While Fuegosaurus was momentarily stunned, Pole jumped up and delivered a sweeping kick to Fuegosaurus’ head, sending the monster rolling over the trees. Pole then held out his arms with his hands together, charging them with energy. He then crossed his arms as an X, and fired a blue beam at his opponent, the Polium Ray. Fuegosaurus received the blast head-on, and was completely disintegrated by it.
SHUWATCH”, Pole shouted, and flew up into the sky and disappeared.

C.A.T had landed near Johan to witness the titanic battle. They looked in amazement at the result of the giants’ battle.
“Was that… Ultraman Pole?” Tanja slowly asked.
“I… think so”, Casper said. “He must be the same person.”
“Amazing”, Johan said. “Really amazing. I’ve never seen anything like this before.”
“Hey, guys!” Peter shouted. He came running to them with a big smile. “Things went fine without me, it seems?”
“They did”, Tanja nodded. “Ultraman Pole helped us.”
“Ha ha ha, I don’t doubt that for second”, Peter laughed. “Well, the most important thing is that Fuegosaurus is gone. Let’s get home and report this thing.” The others nodded and went to the planes, with Johan riding with Casper and Peter riding with Tanja.
As they flew back to C.A.T HQ, Peter silently looked at the bracelet.

EPISODE II: OPERATION EXCAVATION

April 10th, 2044

Iron Mines outside Malmö, south Sweden

Foreman Olov entered the mine, confused. All his workers had abandoned the site under the past few days, and nobody had stayed long enough to even say why.
A bit into the mine, he suddenly saw something that made him scream in horror. It was a man. Or at least half of him. It was the remains of a human, but what had caused this was unknown. At least, until the foreman noticed the mass of saliva around the body. Olov was terrified, and ran for his life. He needed help, fast. Whatever was down there, he didn’t want to know, and didn’t want it to get him too.
As he ran, he heard a loud, laughing sound…

C.A.T HQ, Stefansborg

“A monster in the mine?” Johan said. “Are you sure, Mr Karlsson?”
“Yes, I’m sure”, Olov said. He had gone straightly to C.A.T with the case, not trusting the police to deal with such a situation. “It had eaten half of one of my men, and laughed as I ran off.”
“Hmm”, Emelie thought. “It could be… no, it’s not possible…”
“What is it, boss?” Tanja asked. “Do you know anything?”
“I… I think it could be a… giant.”
“A giant?” Casper repeated. “As in, Jotunheim and Midgård and all that crap?” Emelie nodded.
“When Sweden started its newfound mining operations, strange disappearances began occurring all over the country. People began to believe that we had awakened creatures of old times, but I didn’t believe it. But I just can’t find any other explanations…”
“We’ll look it up”, Peter smiled. “Don’t worry, boss. Mr Karlsson, please direct us to the mine…”

Iron Mines outside Malmö, south Sweden

About an hour later, C.A.T members Tanja, Peter and Johan arrived at the Malmö Iron Mine. Foreman Karlsson had been left behind at the C.A.T HQ.
“This place feels so dead”, Tanja said when they stepped out of their jets. “It’s like… I don’t know. It’s hard to tell how, but you simply know when a place is completely dead.”
“I guess”, Peter nodded. “Shall we enter the mine directly?”
“Are you crazy?” Casper said. “If there’s something down there that likes to hang around killing people, we can’t just walk right in! There’s got to be some better way…” He cut off directly, because somebody emerged from the mine. C.A.T reflexively drew their handguns, and the character held his hands up.
“Don’t shoot!” he shouted. “I’m one of the good guys!” When he walked forth, they saw that he was one of the workers.
“Who’re you?” Johan shouted back. “Why were you in the mine? Wasn’t the place abandoned by all the workers?”
“I’m Dennis”, the worker said. “That thing in there caused a cave-in and cut me off! I’ve spent the last day looking for a way out without him noticing me!”
“You saw it?” Tanja said. “You saw the monster? What was it?” Dennis came up to the C.A.T members, with a scared face.
“It’s… it’s a giant”, he said. “You’d think they only were myths, but it was a giant. We got into a sort of cave covered in ice, and there he was. He was large and hairy, and carried a hammer as big as three cars together! He killed and ate two of the workers, but the rest of us got away. Not that I got out with the others…”
“All right, relax”, Peter said. “You’ll be fine. We’ll take care of the giant. Er, Tanja, can you stay here with Dennis?”
“Why me?” Tanja said angrily. “It’s because I’m a girl, isn’t it?”
“Yep, that’s right. Come on guys, let’s go!” Johan and Casper laughed and went with Peter into the mine.
“They won’t find the giant”, Dennis suddenly said.
“Er, why not?” Tanja said. Dennis smiled menacingly.
“I am Skodd. Pleased to meet you…”

Inside Malmö Iron Mine

“Is this SALIVA…?” Johan said, shocked at the puddles of bubbly slime around the half body lying on the ground.
“I think”, Casper said. “This guy sure drools a LOT.”
“Not really, he’s just big enough to make it seem like it”, Peter said. “Let’s keep moving.”
“I still can’t believe I’m going with you right into the mine”, Casper complained. “This is suicide!”
“Turn back if you want”, Johan said. “We’re C.A.T. What could we possibly do wrong?”
“I don’t know”, Peter said. “Maybe we’re bad at dying?” Johan smiled and nodded. Casper just glared a bit.
As they proceeded through the wide, long mine, they soon came upon a gigantic hole in the rock wall. On the other side, they found an even larger cave. It was, like Dennis had said, covered in ice, and was very cold.
“Geez, what IS this place?” Casper gasped. “How does it stay this cold?”
“That other monster, Fuegosaurus, controlled flames”, Johan said. “Perhaps this giant controls ice?”
“It’s possible”, Peter nodded. “What I wonder is where he is…” Then he came to a realization. They hadn’t found any proof of the cave-in…
“We have to get out! NOW!” he suddenly shouted and began running to the mine entrance.
“What’s going on?” Johan asked, but Peter ignored him and kept running. His Ultran-enhanced physique allowed him to run extremely fast, and emerged from the mine entrance in no time, leaving his colleagues far behind.
Outside, he saw Dennis grinning at him. At his feet was Tanja, unconscious.
“You!” Peter screamed. “You’re the giant! I thought it was weird for you to be the only one there. There was no cave-in in the mine!”
“Found me out, eh?” Dennis kept grinning. “Yes, I am Skodd. I woke up from my slumber when these humans began digging here. And how I longed for human flesh… so sad that I only caught two. Now, it looks as if I got four more! It’s dinner time!” And he emitted an eerie glow, and slowly turned into a hairy being similar to a yeti. In his right hand, he held a hammer. With a howl, the being grew until he finally showed to truly be the giant he was. Peter decided to waste no time… it was time for Ultraman Pole to replace him. Holding his left arm up, and placing his right hand on the bracelet on it, he too glowed and turned into the giant hero, Ultraman Pole!
“What is this…?” Skodd boomed in surprise. “What are you?”
I am Ultraman Pole”, was the response. “And I have been summoned to destroy you.
“Just try me, runt!” Skodd laughed. Pole knew that a battle here would be a bad idea, because Tanja was still lying on the ground unconscious, and he needed to get Skodd away from the mine entrance. He yelled out a loud “Hyah!” and kicked Skodd in the chest. While Skodd was momentarily stunned, Pole grabbed him and tossed him further away in the nearby woods. He then jumped after and got ready for the fight.
Skodd was not one to give up easily, and swiped with his hammer. Pole dodged it, and then again when Skodd struck a second time. He rolled to the side, and placed himself in a battle stance to get ready to counter Skodd’s attack.

Johan and Casper finally got out of the mine. They witnessed the battle of the two giants.
“Take a look at that!” Casper said. “That must be the giant. And Ultraman Pole is fighting him!”
“There’s Tanja!” Johan pointed. They ran to her and tried to wake her up. Tanja began moving slightly.
“W-where am I…?” she moaned.
“It’s alright. You’re safe”, Johan said. “What happened?”
“It was… it was that man, Dennis or whatever he called himself. He’s really the giant in disguise! Where is he?” Johan pointed at the battle in… no, ON the forest.
“Ultraman Pole is here. We’ll entrust the battle to him.” Tanja nodded and smiled slightly.

Skodd smiled.
“You’re not so bad, warrior”, he laughed. “But I’m going to break you!”
Just try me, runt”, Pole imitated sarcastically. Skodd exhaled a blue mist at him, but Pole sidestepped it. He saw the forest get covered in ice when the mist fell down on it.
Skodd did it again, and this time he hit Pole. The side of Pole’s body became covered in super-strong ice, and his foot froze stuck to the ground. Taking his advantage, Skodd landed a blow with his hammer in Pole’s face. It was so powerful, that the ice broke and Pole tumbled backwards, dizzy from the blow. While he was getting up, Skodd blew the mist at him again, and Pole froze stuck. Skodd laughed as he pounded his foe repeatedly, with Pole unable to react.
Suddenly, the V-shaped mark on Pole’s chest began blinking red. This was the Ultran’s warning light. His energy was running out. If Skodd would continue his pounding for long, or if he was left frozen in this block of ice, Pole would lose all energy and never rise again. He realized that this was the only likely fate, for he had nothing to put against Skodd’s assault.

“That light…” Johan mumbled. “According to A.M.A’s files, an Ultran has a warning light that warns them if their energy is running out.”
“What should we do?” Casper said. “We have to help him!”
“What can we do against that?” Johan said.
“Oh well… you say with Tanja. I’ll take care of this.” With a brief nod to Johan and Tanja, Casper ran to his C.A.T jet, and flew vertically up and then off to the giants’ battle.

As Skodd prepared for a finishing blow, a barrage of beams hit his neck. When he turned around to see who dared strike him, a small metallic thing flew past him and shot similar beams at Pole’s icy prison. The ice broke loose his arm, and Pole wasted no time in smashing the rest of it. As he rose, he nodded to Casper in his jet, and gave him a thumb-up. He then turned to Skodd. It was time to finish the battle.
Hyaa!” he shouted as he delivered a punch to Skodd’s face. He followed up with a spinning kick, hitting Skodd’s ribs. Skodd reacted soon, trying to hit the Ultran with his hammer, but Pole did a back flip, avoiding the strike. After landing, Pole swiped his hand, sending a blade of energy through the air. The blade cut Skodd’s hammer in two, and likewise his hand. As Skodd screamed in pain, Pole uppercutted his jaw, sending the ancient giant toppling down onto the trees. Before Skodd could get up, Pole crossed his arms and unleashed his Polium Ray, hitting and disintegrating the old giant. Skodd was no more. Pleased, Pole nodded to C.A.T.
Shuwatch!” he shouted, and flew into the air and disappeared.
Soon, C.A.T began flying home, after Tanja had recovered.
“I wonder how many more ancient monsters have awakened…?” Casper asked through the communication radio.
“Who knows”, Johan answered. “Could be Skodd was the only one, could be he was one of a thousand.”
“I don’t care”, Tanja muttered. “But next time, Peter, you’re the one who stays outside.”
As they all shared a laugh, C.A.T went back home to Stefansborg, awaiting a pleasant rest.

EPISODE III: OIL RIG OPERATION

April 17th, 2044

C.A.T HQ, Stefansborg

At C.A.T HQ, Tanja, Emelie and Johan were enjoying a nice afternoon in front of the TV.
The nicest part about working for C.A.T would be that most of the time, the team did not do very much. Emelie had a lot of work, as the team’s Captain, but she comforted herself with being able to tease the others with the fact that she was able to skip going into the field. Otherwise, C.A.T just hung around unless something was suspicious and demanded their attention, but most of the time these occurrences were nothing special in particular.
“What time is it?” Emelie asked.
“Around six, I’d think”, Johan muttered.
“Oh, then it’s time for the news”, Emelie said and switched channel. A young suit-clad female came on screen.
“…But it is unknown if Malmö Iron Mine will resume operations in the near future. According to C.A.T, no direct harm to the mine was caused in the incident, but the forest in the mine’s immediate area suffered severe damage, especially from the freezing wind caused during the battle.”
“Oh, we just missed our news story”, Tanja smiled. “This time, it was bigger than the Fuegosaurus.”
“Shush-shush, I’m listening”, Emelie said.
“Another news”, the newswoman continued, “A second oil tanker has disappeared near the oil rig Statfjord A in Norwegian waters. The ship Tjatse was on its way to the oil rig, but vanished with no trace, and many link the incident to the earlier disappearance of the oil tanker Statfjordsstjernen. Coast guard is searching the area, but has as of this moment found no trace of the missing ship or its crew.”
“Whoa”, Johan said, stunned. “How can a ship just disappear like that?”
“Not one”, Emelie said, just as shocked. “Two. Two big oil tankers.” The newswoman continued.
“The next news story covers the same area, as a new breed of octopuses has been found in Statfjord. It is unknown how they appeared, but so far over 2 000 of the Statfjord Octopus have been spotted. Marine biologists are clueless as to how the octopuses showed up so suddenly in such an amount, and also clueless regarding their ability to stay hidden for so long. We go directly to Dr. J. Skurton Jr. for a comment…” At that moment, Emelie turned the TV off. She closed her eyes and leaned back. Johan and Tanja began to feel nervous, for this was what Emelie usually did when she suspected something special.
“Um, boss”, Johan began, “I don’t think that’s anything for us…”
“I agree”, Tanja nodded, “We don’t have anything to do with it. Besides, you don’t think those OCTOPUSES would’ve caused the ships’ disappearances, do you?”
“It’s exactly what I think”, Emelie mumbled. “I want you two, Casper and Peter to go to Statfjord and investigate this matter.
“But, boss-”
“I said go”, Emelie said swiftly, rose up and left the room. Johan and Tanja looked at each other, and sighed.

En route by C.A.T Jet to Oil Rig Statfjord A, off the coast of Norway

“She actually suspects a bunch of ink machines to abduct ships?” Peter complained on the radio. “This isn’t C.A.T business…”
“I guess”, Casper replied. “But at least we get something to do.”
“It takes HOURS to go there”, Johan backed up. “Besides, I’m pretty sure D.O.G will be there too.”
“Ah, won’t that be a show?” Tanja giggled. “Peter’s little buddy could be with them!”
“Shut up, Tanja”, Peter snapped. He had a long-running rivalry with Max Umbridge, a D.O.G member. The two didn’t exactly hate each other, but they would go out of their way to ruin each other’s day pretty often.

As they arrived at the large platform, their compact jets were able to fit all on one of its large landing platforms, made for multiple helicopters. A peek on the other platform confirmed that D.O.G was present on Statfjord A.
C.A.T disembarked from the jets and went to greet with the coast guard members also on the platform.
“Hello!” one of them said. “You must be C.A.T. I am Haakon Berger”, he said while shaking hands. “Your colleague organization D.O.G is also here assisting us.”
“I know”, Peter muttered. “So what have we got so far?”
“Honestly”, Haakon said, “We have not found anything specific out from this. D.O.G are preparing for a special submarine probe to search the spots where the ships were last seen. I must admit that I suspect those octopuses to have something to do with this.”
“Couldn’t someone have taken the ships for the oil?” Tanja asked.
“Impossible”, Haakon said. “The ships were en route here to collect oil. They were empty.”
“I see”, Casper said. “Well, guys, let’s go piss D.O.G off for a while!” he added, laughing, and went off. The rest of C.A.T split up in different directions to spend some time, since they felt like they couldn’t do much anyway.
An hour later, Peter was looking at the water from the edge of the lower part of the platform.
Peaceful, isn’t it? he heard in his head.
What!? Who’re you? Peter thought.
Er, it’s me. Ultraman Pole. The guy who’s renting a room in your body, remember?
You… I forgot you could talk to me like this. Peter said in surprise.
I just never had much to say, Pole sighed. But you know, half an Earth month has gone, and I was starting to feel lonely. Peter laughed a bit.
Oh well. How do you like Earth so far?
It’s a nice place, Pole said cheerily. I finally understand what the others said when they talked of their adventures on Earth.
That’s right, I forgot, Peter remembered. You’re not exactly the first, huh?
No, Pole agreed, we’ve been around for quite a while.
“Evenin’, landlubber”, a voice said. Peter turned around and saw a smiling Max Umbridge.
“Oh, it’s you”, Peter muttered. “Shouldn’t you be sipping tea or something?”
“Hey”, Max said, “That was uncalled for.” Peter was honestly surprised.
“Wow”, he uttered, “That’s unlike you.”
“Really?” Max said. “Well, I'll be mean then, if you like that better.” He smiled again, and left.
"I'll be mean”? Peter thought to himself. Is that really Max?

“Probe has reached target area”, D.O.G member Steve Digger said, while both D.O.G and C.A.T were with him. “I’ll go deeper now.”
“How does it look?” Max asked.
“Nothing so far”, Steve said. They were looking at a monitor showing both a radar and camera from the probe.
“Wait, what’s that?” asked Alexis Raven, pointing at something on the radar.
“No idea”, Steve said. “I’ll go a bit closer and see.” And he turned the probe and sent it speeding to the object.
“It’s moving!” Alexis exclaimed. “And man, it’s FAST!” Only seconds later, the connection to the probe was cut.
“What was that thing?” Tanja said.
“No idea”, Casper said. “But I think it’s safe to assume that it took the ships.”
“Obviously”, Steve nodded. Suddenly, one of the coast guard members ran into the room.
“Something’s coming!” he shouted. C.A.T and D.O.G ran up and outside, where they through binoculars saw a very fast object just below the water surface heading for Statfjord A. As it sped onward, they could spot long tentacles on it.
“Some kind of squid-type monster?” Max theorized. “Regardless… D.O.G! Let’s intercept it!” The D.O.G team nodded and headed for their jets.
“Shall we fly off too?” Johan asked.
“No”, Tanja said. “Let’s stay here. If they screw up, then sure, we’ll hop in.” Peter and Casper nodded.

“D.O.G unit”, Max said on the D.O.G radio. “We’ll use the Storm Missiles. Aim for the head, people.”
The D.O.G pilots did as told, and fired their Storm Missiles. The missiles, upon impact with the titanic octopus monster, the Kraken, created a powerful electric shock at his body. However, this didn’t even slow the beast down. As the Kraken sped past the D.O.G jets, his beak opened, and he vomited up a cascade of octopuses in the air. The jets avoided the attack, but now the Kraken jumped out of the water! A long leap made the monster land on the side of Statfjord A, with his long tentacles wrapping around its pillars and sides. D.O.G turned around and prepared to fire again.
“Wait”, Steven said, “There are people on the platform. We can’t risk harming them!”
“Damn”, Max swore, “You’re right. What should we do?”
“I don’t know”, Steven and Alexis said in chorus. They circled around the structure for a while, until more octopuses began flying at them. One hit Max’s wing. As he looked, he saw electric sparks come from the octopus.
“Oh shit”, he said.
“What?” Alexis asked.
“They absorb electricity. I think we might’ve charged them up.” But shortly after saying this, the Kraken whipped at his jet and slammed a wing off. Max spinned down onto the oil rig and crashed.

“How many of these things can he spit out?” Tanja said in anger as more octopuses flew from the Kraken. She shot two more out of her way with her beam-gun.
“Can’t be an endless supply of them”, Johan answered over the noise. “Why does he attack, anyway?”
“No idea”, Casper said. “Hey, where’d Peter go?”

The Kraken sent an electric wave through its tentacles, shorting out all electricity on Statfjord A.
As the monster was about to rip open the building, something came from the air and smashed him off with one blow. Kraken fell down into the water and tumbled around for a while until he straightened up and looked to see what attacked him. It was Ultraman Pole, standing on the empty platform D.O.G had used for their aircraft.
The Kraken shot a cascade of ink at his new foe, but Pole dodged it. He grabbed the monster’s whipping tentacles and, after swinging it, tossed the Kraken away into the water. He then crossed his arms over his chest, held them straight out to his sides, and fired a series of small beams from his chest at the Kraken. The monster screeched in pain, and dove underwater. Pole looked around in confusion, until the Kraken leapt at him. Pole was pushed down into the water, and then the Kraken began pulling him down. Pole struggled to get up, for he was not good in deep water. The merciless Kraken would not let go, until Pole sent an energy pulse through his body. The Kraken was blasted off, and Pole swam up. As he reached the surface, the Kraken latched on to him again.
However, it was quickly forced to let go by a series of beams to its side. Pole, confused, looked at the rig, where the beams came from. He saw the two remaining D.O.G jets, or at least something pretty similar, looking more like cannons. They had transformed their jets into cannons, powerful enough to blast away even the Kraken! Holding on to the oil rig, Pole prepared to finish the Kraken off…
Until another surprise came. A beam of red light struck the Kraken, blasting it to pieces. Pole looked in the beam’s direction, but saw nothing there. Although confused, he noticed that his warning light had begun to blink red. Yelling “Shuwatch!”, Ultraman Pole disappeared into the sky.
As Peter went into the oil rig again, he noticed that the octopuses had all died as well. Walking amongst the remains of the Kraken’s “army”, he finally met up with the others.
“There you are”, Casper said. “I was wondering where you went off.”
“I got to the other side”, Peter said hastily, “And then those octopuses cut me off.” Casper nodded in understanding.
“I didn’t know D.O.G could do that”, Johan said. “That cannon thing, I mean.”
“Well”, Tanja said, “We should be happy they can. It helped Ultraman. Speaking of which”, she added, “I wonder where he is now.”
“Who knows”, Peter said.

As C.A.T said their goodbyes, Peter went off to the D.O.G crew.
“Max”, he said, “I want a word with you.” Max nodded and followed Peter around the corner.
“What is it?” he asked.
“I was going to ask something like that”, Peter said coldly. “You’re acting strange. Normally, you’d insult me until fists flew. What’s happened to you?”
“Nothing”, Max smiled, “I’m fine, just fine. But thanks for worrying.” He went off without another word.’
I wonder… Peter heard Pole say. There’s something fishy about him.
I think so too. Oh well, let’s not worry for now.

As C.A.T returned to the HQ, Emelie stood there smiling widely.
“Was I right or what?”

EPISODE IV: ENEMY

April 29th, 2044

Orrholmen, Karlstad, west Sweden

A girl gazed silently at the calm water in the little lake. She did most certainly not do this for relaxation, because her eyes were widely, wildly open, and she stared directly at one specific spot in the water.
She was clothed entirely in white.
A boy came up to her, nervously.
“Er… hi, Miss”, he said. The girl made no sign to have noticed him.
“I was thinking”, the boy began, “I should ask you why you’re staring at the water like that.”
“I consider”, the girl said with a cold, emotionless voice, which sent a chill down the boy’s spine.
“Okay”, he nodded, “But I’ve seen you here every day for at least two weeks. Do you need so much time to consider… whatever you’re considering?”
“No”, the girl said.
“Then why do you stand here all the time?”
“I stand here because I planted a seed, and I watch it grow. And I consider.”
“What are you considering?” the boy, who was now mightily creeped out, squeezed out.
“I consider avenging the being that birthed me”, the girl said, never letting her eyes slip away from the water.
“Your mother?” the boy asked.
“I never had a father”, the girl said, “So I can not have a mother. I was formed by a being that ripped a piece of its flesh and transformed it into a child. I spent six years in incubation, and I hatched. Now I am considering.”
By this time, the boy had already gone.

C.A.T HQ, Stefansborg, Sweden

At C.A.T HQ, the morning was flowing by pretty normally. Casper and Peter were playing chess, Tanja manned the telephone to tell off all weirdos of the day, Emelie manned her own telephone to tell off anyone who interfered with anything that was remotely linked to C.A.T, and Johan was reading a book.
“What’re you reading, Johan?” Peter asked while moving a tower piece.
“Just a book on Norse mythology”, Johan said, “We’ve encountered two Scandinavian mythological beings so far… I figured I should be prepared.”
“I see”, Peter said. “By the way… did they ever figure out where that red light came from?”
“I don’t think so”, Casper said. “Some of the workers speculated it might’ve been another Ultran. Checkmate.”
“Hm, maybe”, Peter said. They were interrupted by an alarm.
“Monster!” Tanja shouted. “Karlstad! Let’s go!”

Orrholmen, Karlstad, west Sweden

Greenmons waded around in the, for a creature his size, little pond. Emitting an eerie, howling sound, the plant monster walked up from the water and immediately walked right through the nearby power plant. Proceeding to destroy an office building, the creature released a yellow gas in the air. Humans screamed, trying to get away from the monster, but as the gas entered their lungs, they could only emit choking sounds as they fell. Greenmons, having covered the entire area in a thick, yellow fog, proceeded towards a nearby high school.
Suddenly, however, something made the monster stop. In front of it stood the white-clothed girl, staring at Greenmons. Her eyes were filled with hunger.
“Food”, she said. Greenmons walked off without a sound, and the girl followed it.
“Food”, she repeated. “I am hungry.”

C.A.T flew around Orrholmen, finding no monster. All they saw was a yellow fog which got thinner and thinner.
“Scanned”, Tanja said. “It’s poisonous, all right.”
“Gotcha”, Peter said. “Let’s put on gas masks and take a look.” The others agreed, and the C.A.T pilots landed. Equipping gas masks, they went to the damaged area.
“It sure had a short rampage”, Casper said. “It just walked through two buildings and ran off.”
“Hey!” they heard. The team looked around and saw a man running to them.
“Careful, it’s poisonous…” Johan shouted. C.A.T ran up to the man.
“I’m the one who called”, the man said. “Axel Pettersson.”
“All right”, Casper said, “Can you tell me what happened here?” Axel nodded.
“Well, all of a sudden, this giant peastalk-looking thing emerged from that lake there”, he said, pointing to the water. “It turned into that plant monster in seconds, and it began to attack, but it suddenly stopped. I didn’t see why at first, but then I noticed a girl standing there. She seemed unaffected by the yellow fog, and seemed to scare the pants off that monster, since it walked off directly.”
“Weird”, Johan said. “Wait, quiet, everyone” he added and stiffened his ears. When the others silenced down to listen, they suddenly heard a distant, chomping sound.

C.A.T HQ, Stefansborg, Sweden

”Something ate the monster?” Emelie asked, astonished.
“That’s what I think, at least”, Peter said. “The others’ opinions are not my business, but I think something ate the plant up entirely.”
“I agree”, Johan, Casper and Tanja said in chorus.
“Do you have any proof for this?” Emelie said.
“Well, some photos here”, Casper said. “Here you see the area they reported the monster to go to. We saw the foot… er, rootprints of the plant there, along with these other footprints. And a few pieces of giant plant. I think that’s proof enough.”
“I see. What could this be…?” Emelie pondered.
“A very big vegetarian, perhaps”, Johan smiled.
“Or something that wanted salad with its hamburger”, Tanja giggled.
“Just go off and find stuff out”, Emelie shooed them.
“Wait”, Peter said. “There was a girl…”
“Oh yeah”, Tanja said. “Apparently she stared at the thing and caused it to walk off.”
“Really?” Emelie asked curiously. “Did you see her? Did anyone say what she looked like?”
“Er…” Tanja blushed. “We didn’t… ask them.” Emelie turned blood red.
“YOU INCOMPETENT HOBBY-DETECTIVES!” she chased them out of the meeting room.
“Find whatever you can find on the plant from the photos of it. I want anything that can relate it to the second monster”, Emelie yelled, “and don’t come back unless you’ve found something GOOD!”

April 30th, 2044

Statfjord A, Norwegian waters

A white-clothed girl stood at the edge of the platform, staring at the water. Although her face seemed to lack emotion, she suddenly seemed to fell a tear.
“No food”, she mumbled. She turned around, and began walking. After two steps, she simply vanished into thin air.

C.A.T HQ, Stefansborg, Sweden

”Greenmons”, Johan said, putting some files on Emelie’s desk.
“Sorry?” Emelie said.
“I said Greenmons. The plant. Its name is Greenmons. It’s almost identical to a mutated plant encountered by the Japanese Science Patrol ages ago, although this one had more vine-looking arms.”
“I see”, Emelie said, looking at the files. “But it wasn’t created in the same way, was it?”
“No”, Johan nodded. “But this whole thing is pretty mystical already, so I figured this could top the cake.”
“All right”, Emelie said. “We know WHAT it was. What good is this?”
“Nothing”, Johan admitted. “But I was supposed to find something about the plant.”
“Yes, I did say so. Okay, thank you.” Emelie nodded, and so did Johan before leaving her office.

Oskarsberg Valley, Stefansborg, Sweden

The white-clothed girl stood looking at the valley. She swept her eyes over the area twice before falling a tear from her otherwise unfeeling face.
“Who steals my food?” she mumbled, knowing nobody listened.
“Somebody steals the food I gather. I want to know who.” With no more words, she disappeared.

C.A.T HQ, Stefansborg, Sweden

”Monster!” Tanja screamed. ”It crashed in the city centre!”
“What?” Emelie exclaimed. “Get going! Destroy it!”
“Yeah, I’ll…” Casper said. “Where is Peter?”
“He's on recon duty”, Emelie said. “Don’t mind him, get going! Lives are in danger!”

Central Square, Stefansborg, Sweden

The white-clothed girl stood upon a tall building, observing the second Fuegosaurus she had summoned. It was time to find out who stole her food.
Fuegosaurus roared. It charged right into a building, destroying it. In delight, Fuegosaurus fired a heat beam at a nearby building, destroying its roof. Fuegosaurus walked to it to finish the job, when C.A.T appeared in their jets. The white-clothed girl watched with wide-open eyes as the jets battled the space monster, failing to do any real damage. As the jets fought, Ultraman Pole appeared. Grappling with the monster, he tossed it to the ground. Fuegosaurus got up, but Pole kicked it away. As he ran up to attack again, the monster’s thin, violent tail whipped him, then grabbed him and pulled him to the ground. Fuegosaurus hit Pole with its heat beam repeatedly, failing to do any real damage but keeping him down.
C.A.T concentrated fire on Fuegosaurus’ tail, severing it. Pole got up, tossed the remains of the tail aside and then kicked Fuegosaurus in the chest to get even. He then punched the side of its head, downing the monster. Taking the opportunity, Pole crossed his arms and fired the Polium Ray, destroying the new Fuegosaurus.
The white-clothed girl faded into nothing as she muttered one word.
“Enemy.”

EPISODE V: SAY IT WITH FLOWERS

May 1st, 2044

Sergel’s Square, Stockholm, west Sweden

In the black-and-white patterned square in the capital city Stockholm, a white-clothed girl stood motionlessly in the sunset. This time, she was plotting.
I will destroy him, she thought to herself. But how? I am too weak to get involved in a battle.
Then, she looked down and held up a palm. In it, three spheres of purple light formed before turning into seeds.
Like this, she thought.

May 5th, 2044

C.A.T HQ, Stefansborg, Sweden

”Does anyone think”, Johan asked, ”We might encounter more Fuegosauri in the future? We’ve had two so far.”
“Possibly”, Casper nodded. “There was something eerie about this one. It appeared so suddenly.”
“So did the former”, Tanja pointed out. “I think they’re connected somehow.”
“Me too”, Johan said. Peter sat silent.
Do you think they were connected? he asked Pole.
Quite possible, Pole said. They had a certain aura about them. I felt the same thing with the Kraken. Peter was honestly surprised.
The Kraken? They’re nothing alike! he said. Why would they have any connection?
I don’t know, they just felt so similar, said Pole.
Emelie entered the room.
“Greetings, team”, she said. “I’ve got a job for you.”
“What is it?” Tanja asked.
“No mysteries to solve”, Emelie smiled, “This is blatantly obvious. A gigantic plant began growing in Sergel’s Square.”
“Another Greenmons?” Johan asked. Emelie nodded.
“I assume so. I want you all to go check it out.” The team nodded in agreement and got ready for the mission.

The new Greenmons had fully formed, and went to work on attacking the nearby buildings. His two arm-like vines smashed the walls, but they were not very powerful so he had to smash multiple times to break the buildings. Realizing this weakness, he instead began stepping on smaller buildings, crushing them under his tremendous weight. As he widened his “face”, which was no more than a yellow spot on his front, to prepare his yellow gas, the four C.A.T fighters arrived at the site. They shot their lasers at Greenmons, who wailed in agony and waved his arm-vines around in the air trying to smash them down. C.A.T circled around, and Casper fired a missile at Greenmons. It impacted his side and set him on fire, but suddenly a chilling wind, seemingly from out of nowhere, killed the fire. Greenmons turned around and waved his vines again, this time smashing Peter out of the air. His jet circled down, managing to land calmly, and Peter decided to wrap things up.
Ultraman, let’s transform and kill this thing, Peter said to the Ultran. He held his left arm up and held his right hand at the bracelet, engulfing him in light and transforming him into the gigantic blue hero Ultraman Pole.
“Look, it’s Ultraman”, Johan said cheerily. “He’s right on time!”
Pole wasted no time. He charged the plant and smashed it to the ground. Greenmons wrapped one of its roots around Pole’s leg and pulled him down too, but he got up quickly. The monster rose as well and charged him, flailing its vines, but Pole just grabbed them and kicked Greenmons’ “stomach”. The monster backed away, and the yellow spot widened again. Greenmons unleashed the yellow gas, sending a cascade of it at Pole. Pole doubled over in agony, and Greenmons began pummelling him while he had the chance.
But Tanja and Johan shot a missile each, hitting Greenmons and setting the plant on fire, but like last time, the mysterious wind blew the flames right out. Pole got up, unsteady, and saw the creature circle around to try and hit the jets. Aiming carefully, Pole threw the same energy blade he had used against Skodd. The blade cut Greenmons in half, and it fell down with no sound.
“He did it!” Tanja said in triumph. “He won!”
“Yeah”, Johan smiled. “Now we can relax and—wait, what’s that?”
Pole didn’t see them coming. He was rammed in the back, and when he managed to look up and see what it was, he saw two additional Greenmons closing in on him! He got up and rushed them, kicking one, but the other wrapped its vines around his neck. The first repeatedly rammed Pole, and his warning light began to blink. He’d suffered too much damage in the battle, but he couldn’t just leave until they were dead. Slamming the one holding him with his elbow, he somersaulted over the other and kicked it from behind, sending it tumbling into the first. However, the plants rose again, and both their yellow marks began to widen…
Suddenly, a red light slammed one of the Greenmons, causing an explosion that blew it up. As the other turned to see what happened, the light sped away amongst the buildings.
“What was that!?” Tanja exclaimed in surprise.
“Some kind of… giant light ball”, Casper said. “Who cares what it was? Let’s take the opportunity! C.A.T unit, all-out attack!” The two others confirmed the order and flew directly towards the remaining Greenmons. Under triumphant shouts, the three jets unleashed a barrage of laser blasts that toppled the giant plant monster, and followed it up with a missile each, blasting off a large chunk of the beast. As the monster writhed in pain, Ultraman Pole joined the fray. He held his arms forward, hands together, then crossed his arms like an X over his chest, firing his signature attack Polium Ray. The beam impacted with the Greenmons, and it exploded violently.
SHUWATCH!” Pole shouted as he disappeared into the sky.
“We won!” Tanja said cheerily. “We won after all!”
“That red light…” Johan mumbled. “What was it?”
“Let’s think about that when we get home”, Casper replied. “Let’s pick Peter up and fly back to HQ.”

The white-clothed girl watched the remains of her three Greenmons. Looking at the last one, she noticed it was still burning. She exhaled a blue wind at it, killing the fire, and then looked to the direction C.A.T flew.
“Don’t steal my food”, she muttered. “I am hungry. I want living food.”
She turned around and walked off, but disappeared into thin air after a few steps.

EPISODE VI: MEETING AT THE GREAT LAKE, PART 1/2: ULTRAMAN IRON

May 8th, 2044

C.A.T HQ , Stefansborg, Sweden

Peter was lying on his back at the rooftop, looking at the stars. It was a nice night, warm and pretty and all that. Peter had a habit of looking at the stars from C.A.T’s headquarter roof. The only tricky part was that he passed Tanja’s room on his way, and she woke up very easily. When she did, she wasn’t very fun to deal with.
Do you like watching the sky like this? Ultraman Pole asked in his head.
Yeah, Peter said. It’s peaceful.
Oh, if you only knew, Pole laughed. Quite a lot goes on out there. That reminds me, Peter said. Why are you here, exactly? Does your kind swear to protect Earth or something?
No, Pole said, we swear to protect everything. It’s just that a lot happens to, well, happen on Earth. Still, my mentor thought I was ready to travel here.
Your mentor?
Yes, Pole said. My mentor’s name is Ultraseven. He’s the one who trained me, primarily. He’s promised to visit me and check up on me.
Wow, Peter said, astonished. Will I get to meet him?
I’d assume so. You’re my host. I’m with you all the time.
As they talked, something appeared in the sky. It appeared to be a row of symbols made out of light.
An Ultra Sign… Pole mumbled.
Ultra Sign? Peter said in confusion.
Ultrans use Ultra Signs to send messages to each other. We don’t use telephones or stuff like that if we travel light-years through the universe all the time.
Okay, so what does it say?
Somebody wants to meet me…

Great Lake, north Sweden

Great Lake had always been clothed in mystery. Like Loch Ness, people had long believed it to be the home of a monster, and many had claimed to see it. These claims were often proven to be lies and hoaxes, and the beliefs fell into myth. That is, until Sweden’s recent monster attacks. People avoided the lake these days, fearing that they might be attacked by the monster.

Emerging from the shadows amongst the trees next to the lake, the strange girl dressed in white looked upon the water.
Yes, she thought, this is my chance. I can use this creature to defeat my enemy.
“So I found you out”, she heard. Normally, she would not react very much, but this person felt… different. She turned around and saw a normal human male walking towards her.
“You are?” she asked coldly.
“Call me Max”, the man replied. “I heard that Ultraman Hikari suspected Bogar to have left a spawn. I didn’t realize you’d be on Earth.”
“You are Ultran…” the girl said slowly. The man nodded.
“Keep out of this”, she continued. “This is none of your business.”
“You’re a monster”, Max said. “And you summon monsters. I find that my business.”
“I wish you no specific harm”, the girl said. “I do not fight anybody. All I do is collect food. They steal my food from me, so I have to stop them. I, personally, feel too weak to fight an Ultran, but the one stealing my food will be punished.”
“Then, if you don’t want anybody harmed, pack up and leave Earth”, Max said coldly. “If you continue this, I will kill you, Bogar.”
“Bogar?” the girl said. “I do not wish to carry the name of my parent. It and I have little in common. Bogar was interested in killing and conquering. I am interested in growing and simply surviving.”
“Then what is your name?”
“Nothing”, the girl replied. “I have no name, and I don’t need one either.” She turned around and began to walk away.
“Wait”, Max said, holding out a hand. “Don’t you dare escape!” But, ignoring him, the girl vanished into thin air, leaving Max alone by the lake.
Come on, Ultraman Pole, he thought. Hurry up and get here.

May 9th, 2044

En route to Great Lake, Sweden

“Thanks for the ride, Tanja”, Peter said. Since his own jet was damaged again, Tanja flew him to the lake. Peter claimed that he wanted to go there because of a sudden need for some rest, and Emelie thought he might use one, because he’d looked pretty stressed out recently, so he was allowed a few days off by the Great Lake. After a lot of insistence, Tanja had gotten to go, too. Emelie wasn’t hard for her to convince, but Peter didn’t want her to go with him. After reminding him of how much faster it’d go with her jet and how she wouldn’t fly him if she didn’t get to come along, he had to agree. C.A.T members were able to use the jets for personal use by claiming to be investigating, and Emelie allowed this due to a silent “you break it, you bought it” agreement. While no other leader would allow such a reckless use of highly expensive equipment, Emelie recognized the usefulness of having highly ranked members available in areas where new incidents might require investigation. Since they were so fast, C.A.T members thus used their jets for longer trips around the country, but terrible consequences waited if they crashed. However, stolen jets were no issue. They were too well-protected for a smart person to try, and a fool soon reconsidered.
“It’s all good”, Tanja smiled. “I needed a break too, anyway.”
“So what do you intend to do at the lake, Tanja?” Peter asked. He hoped he could get her to keep away from him during the meeting with the mysterious Ultran.
“I don’t know, really. Just relax in the hotel and take a few walks or something. I’m no real vacation… er… vacationist, heh.”
“Okay”, Peter said. That’s good, he thought to himself, and to Pole.

Great Lake, north Sweden

“All right”, Tanja said after putting her stuff in her hotel room. “You gonna take it easy for the evening?”
“I guess”, Peter said, but what he really wanted to was to find the Ultran as soon as possible. “I might slip into the woods, too. I need some time to myself.”
“Okay”, Tanja said, sounding a bit disappointed. “But let’s eat dinner together.”
“Maybe”, Peter replied. “In that case, I’ll give you a call later.” Tanja nodded and went back into her room. Peter walked away out of the hotel.
I thought I wouldn’t get rid of her, he said to Pole in his head. Well, where do you think we can find our mystery friend?
How should I know? Pole said sharply. All we can do is walk off to search. There’s got to be something to point us in the right direction.
Ok, I’ll just walk around and see, then, Peter said, and began a stroll around the lake.

After about half an hour, he encountered somebody. It was a young, short, black-haired, pretty girl dressed entirely in white. She stared at him with a strange expression. It felt partly hateful, partly frightened. Peter got an immediate bad feeling from the girl.
“Who… are you?” he said nervously. A moment passed with the girl just staring at him.
“You are stealing my food”, she finally said.
“Uh… what?” Peter uttered in confusion.
“You are stealing my food”, the girl repeated. “I work hard to gather food, and you steal it only to ruin it for me. I want you to stop stealing my food. I grow so hungry.”
“I’m stealing your food?” Peter said. “I never stole anything from you. We haven’t even met before!”
“I have seen you, but you did not see me. You steal my food. I summoned a Fuegosaurus to eat, and you killed it. I summoned a Kraken, and you killed it.”
“YOU’RE behind those monsters?” Peter exclaimed. “Do you know how much problems you’ve caused?”
“I got mad”, the girl continued, uninterrupted, “and decided you needed to be removed so I could eat in peace. But somehow my Greenmons were defeated, all three. Only recently did I find out that a second Ultran saved you.”
“The other Ultran…” Peter mumbled. “But why do you do this?”
“I wish merely to survive”, the girl said. “I wish to survive, and to grow big and strong. If I get to be left in peace, you will be left in peace by me. But it is not your nature to do so. I intend to kill y--”
Interrupting her, an indescribably fast figure emerged from the shadows and hit the girl. She staggered back, and the figure, after circling some trees to not lose its speed, attacked again. The girl managed to evade the attack, and soon moved after in the same pace. The two exchanged blows for a while, leaving Peter to stand watching them astonished, until suddenly the other figure managed to slam the girl into a tree with such force that the tree’s lower part was slammed to pieces, and the upper part fell down next to the girl. The mysterious warrior stopped moving, and Peter could see who it was. It was Max, from D.O.G!
“Max!?” Peter exclaimed. Max didn’t react, instead focused entirely on the girl.
“I told you”, she said now in a hissing, snakelike voice while rising up, looking largely unharmed, “I am too weak to fight.” Max didn’t answer.
“I also told you that this is not your business”, the girl continued. “Stay out of my affairs, Ultran.”
Ultran…? Peter thought.
“This is very much my business, monster”, Max finally said. “I told you I’d kill you if you continued. I hoped you’d take the hint.”
“I see”, the girl said. “So you are my enemy too, then. Very well. We’ll meet again.” And she ran off, in the same blinding speed as before, until she disappeared.
“Damn!” Max swore. “She got away again!”
“Max!” Peter said. “What’s going on? How did you move like that? Who is she?” Another moment of silence occurred, until Max finally spoke.
“All right”, he said, “I’ll just be honest.”
“Please do”, Peter nodded.
“Max is dead”, Max suddenly said.
“Uh… what?” Peter said, standing confused.
“I said that Max is dead”, Max repeated. “During a mission to France some month ago, Max was hit by a monster’s claw. His jet crashed, and he perished in the explosion. That was where I came across him, and I took residence in his body. I have worked with D.O.G since. They know nothing about it.” And for some reason, Peter felt no doubt in what the man said.
“You… who are you?” Peter said. “Max” smiled.
“I know you’re in there, Ultraman Pole. Ultraseven told me you’d be here.”
You’re the Ultran?" Peter heard, but this time the man in front of him also heard Pole.
“Yes”, he nodded. “I am Ultraman Iron.”
Ultraman Iron…" Pole repeated. “I’ve met you before. You used to hang around with Ultraman Hikari all the time.” Iron nodded.
“I came here because Hikari strongly suspected a spawn of the monster Bogar.”
BOGAR!?" Pole exclaimed, and by the sound of it, Peter figured out he was frightened.
“Who’s Bogar?” Peter shyly asked.
“Bogar was a tremendously powerful monster fought by Ultraman Mebius and Ultraman Hikari back in 2006”, Iron said. “Bogar aided the ongoing invasion of monsters upon Earth, and it took the combined strength of Mebius, Hikari, G.U.Y.S of Japan, and the Capsule monster Mikulas to bring her down, and even then it was no easy task. I decided to take no risks, so I travelled here to find the monster, because Bogar had spent a large amount of time here. The spawn happens to be the girl in white you just spoke to.”
“I could’ve guessed”, Peter nodded. “And she wants me and Pole dead. Are we just gonna find and kill her or something?”
“I told her she’d get killed if she didn’t leave the planet”, Iron said, “but she does not listen. So yes, we’ll remove her with force, killing or not. And we have to rush, before this… Bogar II grows too strong.”
“Grows too strong?”
“She seems to evolve through eating. If I’d have found her earlier she’d be dead by now, but now she’s already eaten some monsters. If she gets too many, she’ll be nearly as powerful as her predecessor.”
“And that is…” Peter began.
Bad”, Pole finished. “Yes, it’s bad. Very much so.

EPISODE VII: MEETING AT THE GREAT LAKE, PART 2/2: MURDER A MYTH

May 10th, 2044

Great Lake, north Sweden

Tanja looked at Peter angrily during breakfast.
“How nice of you to keep me company at dinner”, she muttered.
“I got lost in the forest, ok?” Peter attempted, knowing it was a hopeless battle.
“Wow, good excuse”, Tanja snapped. “If you don’t want to hang out with me, then fine, I won’t bother you. I can have BUTTLOADS of fun without you. Toodles.” And she got up and walked away.
“Uh, Tanja”, Peter mumbled. “You forgot your food…”
I think she likes you, Pole laughed.
I’m beginning to NOT like you, Peter muttered. Tanja’s like that all the time. I don’t think she takes this as seriously as she tries to make me think. It’s just an attention thing.
Oh, I know someone like that, Pole said. Back in the Land of Light. She can snap at anything if it makes people turn to look. Real diva.
Oh well. When will we meet Ma… Ultraman Iron?
He wanted to meet us at midday, so we can start planning on how to fight Bogar II.
All right, Peter nodded, I’ll just try to amuse myself.
Maybe you could try and apologize to Miss Oskarsson? Pole suggested.
If she wants to be grumpy, I’ll let her be grumpy.

Taking a walk, Peter tried to think the whole thing through. Max was dead, okay. A bit of a loss, but not a tragedy to Peter. Nobody else knew, anyway. The recent monster trouble, save for Skodd in Malmö, was caused by that girl, and she was aiming to kill Peter so that Pole too would die. The whole thing was pretty weird, but Peter had accepted to help Pole defend Earth, so he probably had no real choice. He had to defeat the monster girl.
Walking on, lost in his thoughts, he bumped into somebody. Looking up, he saw Tanja.
“Ah, out by yourself again?” she asked. Peter nodded.
“Me too”, Tanja sighed. “It’s something with the nature here. Pretty nice place.”
“Yeah”, Peter nodded, “it is. Hey, Tanja…”
“Yes?”
“Sorry for skipping dinner with you yesterday. I guess it was pretty stupid.”
“It’s okay”, Tanja smiled. “I made too much of a deal with it, really. But thanks for apologizing.”
“So uhm… I guess we can do it tonight instead”, Peter said.
“Sure”, Tanja said, still smiling. However, when Peter glanced over her shoulder for a brief moment, he saw the girl in white! She stood next to the water, holding some kind of blue light-ball.
“Hey, YOU!” he shouted, running towards her.
“What the heck?” Tanja exclaimed, but Peter ignored her, ran up to the white-clothed girl and drew his gun at her. She didn’t even flinch.
“Like that”, the girl mumbled, “you don’t threaten me in any way, human. I have nothing to fear from you.”
“What’re you talking about, monster?” Peter hissed.
“Monster?” Tanja repeated. “Peter Ström, I DEMAND an explanation for this!”
“I might give you one later”, Peter snapped back, “but now I have a monster to take care of.”
“Correction, human”, the girl said. She released the blue ball, making it hover away over the water, and turned to him. Her eyes glowed purple, and a small bolt of energy whipped out at Peter, sending him falling backwards.
“You have two”, the girl finished.
“Not so fast”, Tanja suddenly said. She’d drawn her own gun and pointed it at the girl. “You’re gonna tell me what’s going on here… now!” The girl just stared at her for a moment, as Peter rose to his feet.
“That girl”, Peter yelled, “is the one who’s been pulling the monsters outta the hat!”
“What!?” Tanja exclaimed. “HER?”
“Yes”, the girl nodded. “I summon monsters. They are my food. You steal my food from me. I will get you out of my way.”
“Yeah right”, Tanja said, still aiming at the girl. “Don’t you know that you’re putting thousands of people in danger with all this?”
“It is my nature”, the girl responded. “As it is your nature to hinder me.”
“It’s my nature to take you in for interrogation”, Tanja smiled. The girl pointed to the water.
“I believe you will find something more constructive to do”, she said. Tanja and Peter looked at the water and saw a gigantic splash send water flying all over the sky. What caused the splash was something horrific. It reminded very much of a dinosaur, but humanoid in the degree that it stood upright and had muscular arms, and it had hands complete with opposable thumbs, though equipped with sharp claws. It had a long tail which, by the looks of it, was pretty powerful. It had a pointy horn on its snout. The beast’s mouth was a gaping hole lined with, by the looks of it, razor-sharp teeth, and it had several fins on its body, revealing its aquatic nature. It was the true Monster of the Great Lake!
“I believe that a suitable name would be Goruo”, the girl continued. “So that will be its name from now on. Not a creation of mine, believe me, I found him here. He is under my control at present, and I am ordering him to attack.”
“Attack what?” Peter said, astonished at the living proof of the legend’s truth.
“Things”, the girl replied, and vanished.
“Ah”, Tanja gasped. “She’s gone!”
“She can do that”, Peter muttered. “Nevermind that. Call C.A.T HQ. See if they can send anything fast enough to help us. Quickly!”
“What about you?” Tanja asked.
“I’m gonna give it a shot. Several, in fact.” And with a smile, Peter picked up his gun and ran to a small peninsula nearby to get a clear shot at the monster. Tanja stood as if she was paralyzed for a second, then she turned around and sped off to the C.A.T jet.
Goruo screeched, suddenly filled with such a lust for destruction. He looked at the small lakeside hotel, and delightfully approached it. He leaned down and smashed it with his fists, destroying the building completely. Screeching again, he slammed his tail on a nearby gas station and began marching onward to find more things to destroy.
But something drew the beast’s attention. A series of projectiles hit Goruo’s neck, and he turned around to find out who dared attack him. At first, he didn’t see anybody, but then he noticed the little human who was blasting him with something. However, it caused very little damage to Goruo, who opened his mouth and fired a heat beam at the human.
Peter managed to dodge the blast, due to his Ultra-enhanced physique, and avoided the explosion. The monster didn’t see that he survived, which probably was a good thing. He prepared to transform into Ultraman Pole…
But his bracelet wasn’t there! He’d left it with the rest of his things in the hotel! Realizing his mistake, Peter began to run to the hotel and find the bracelet.

“C.A.T, this is Tanja, can you hear me?” Tanja yelled in the communicator.
“Loud n’ clear”, she heard Casper respond. “What’s the problem?”
“Monster!” Tanja yelled back. “The Monster of the Great Lake stuff is true! The thing is walking around wrecking stuff RIGHT NOW, so we need help RIGHT NOW!”
“What?” Casper responded. “We can’t send stuff that fast!” Tanja didn’t reply, standing in terrified realization.
“Sorry, but you’re on your own”, Casper finished sadly. Tanja opened her mouth, likely to swear, but was interrupted when her jet was blasted by Goruo’s heat beam. Tanja was flung several meters away by the shockwave and knocked into the grass. As she looked over at the destroyed jet, she also noticed the hotel’s rubble. A terrible thought struck her.
“What about all my stuff…?”

Searching through the rubble of the hotel, Peter was beginning to panic.
Pole, can’t you use some kind of power to find the bracelet? he asked.
I don’t need to, Pole muttered.
Hey, I thought you were here to help!
Yes, Pole agreed, I am, but… he silenced. Peter was startled to see Pole appear before him in a transparent, human-sized form. He pointed straight behind Peter, and when Peter looked he saw the smashed remains of his hotel room. The image of Pole then vanished. Peter, not wasting time, immediately found his bag, took out the bracelet and put it on, then did the ritual to transform into Ultraman Pole.

Tanja, worried about Peter, decided to ignore looking at the hotel and instead go directly to Goruo’s vicinity to help him fight the monster. She was surprised to not see any laser beams come from the ground, and was worried about his safety. She drew her gun and aimed at Goruo.
“This is for my packing, sucker!” she shouted, and fired a barrage of beams at the monster’s shoulder. Goruo stopped and turned around, noticing Tanja. He opened his mouth to fire his heat beam. The beam fired, and struck…
…Ultraman Pole! The giant blue hero had appeared and stood on one knee in front of her, taking the blast. Now he rose to his feet ready to battle Goruo.
The giant amphibious lizard wasted no time in attacking. Charging the hero, roaring loudly, he was knocked back by a kick. Pole followed up with a punch to the jaw, sending the monster stepping aside, dizzy. As the blue giant rushed towards the monster again, Goruo took his chance. Charging his horn with energy, he fired a beam from it. The beam hit Pole’s stomach, and a gigantic explosion ensued. Pole was flung into the lake by the force, and debris from the explosion forced Tanja to seek cover.
Pole got up, and waded out of the water. Looking at his foe, Pole wondered where Ultraman Iron was. He now knew Goruo’s power, and he was… afraid.
Goruo charged him again, and Pole was too slow to evade him. Goruo knocked Pole back into the water, and jumped on him while he was lying down. In an attempt to help the hero, Tanja opened fire on Goruo’s head with her laser pistol. The action distracted Goruo long enough for Pole to push him off and get up, but now his warning light began to blink.
Pole waded out of the water again, and hurried to get distance between him and Goruo. The monster stood still for a while, taunting Pole with his roars, until Pole decided to attack. He charged himself with energy and held his arms out to his sides, firing his Polium Rain attack, with numerous smaller beams hailing upon Goruo. The monster was hardly impressed, and countered with his heat beam. Reacting quickly, Pole crossed his arms over his chest and used the Soul Shield technique he’d learned from his mentor, Ultraseven, which created a blue barrier in front of him. The barrier blocked the attack and Pole removed it. He fired the Polium Rain once more, and Goruo also continued fire. The two traded beams for a while, with neither being able to truly harm the other, for Goruo’s skin was so strong it absorbed the Polium Rain, while Pole was fast enough to dodge the heat beam. Realizing that the beam-war led nowhere, Pole jump-kicked Goruo and the monster was knocked back slightly, giving Pole time to slam its stomach and punch its chin, so Goruo was knocked down. However, when Pole was about to pick the monster up, Goruo rolled around and fired the beam from his horn again. Pole, though startled, dodged it, but Goruo got up and rammed him down into the water. The monster slammed Pole repeatedly, and this time the hero couldn’t get up. His energy was running so low that a few more hits would incapacitate him completely… forever.
As Goruo emitted a roaring laugh, the girl in white watched. She showed emotion, this time, for she was smiling. Finally, her number-one foe would be defeated, and she could move on to the other one. She gave Goruo a mental command.
Kill him.
The monster seemed to “nod”, and his horn began to glow again. But just as he prepared to fire his energy beam, something knocked him back, and he fell backwards into the lake. The white-clothed girl looked to see who interfered with her affairs, and saw… the other Ultran.
Ultraman Iron had appeared, in his true, Ultran form. He was red in the color, but his chest had an insect-like pattern in gold. He also had golden shoulder-pads, and his helmet-and-mask-like Ultran face was also in gold. He had a metallic Mohawk on his head, and in the middle of the insect-like pattern on his chest was his warning light. He looked at Pole, who was struggling to get up, just as Pole looked up and saw him.
Ultraman… Iron”, he said in relief. “What took you so long?
I was thinking that ‘it’s just a monster, Pole can handle himself’”, Iron said with humorous irony in his voice. “I suppose I’ll have to eat my words. I will help you with this lizard.” And Pole nodded, hopeful again.
Tanja watched in amazement at the two Ultrans. They spoke, in a language she could not understand. But there was something about this other Ultran that clearly signalled about the fact that he was definitely skilled. More skilled, in fact, than Ultraman Pole.
“Good luck”, she mumbled. “Good luck, whoever you are.”
Ultraman Iron turned to Goruo, who by now had risen to his feet and focused on this new foe, more dangerous than the one writhing around in the water. The two titans charged each other, and collided. Goruo and Iron grappled for a while, until Iron delivered a knee in Goruo’s stomach, sending the monster backing away. Iron took the opportunity, and tossed a red ball of light at the monster, which exploded, sending Goruo toppling into the water. He then grabbed Goruo’s tail, swung him a few times, then tossed him into the woods. Running after, he kicked the monster while it was getting up, then did a back flip as Goruo tried to counterattack. Goruo charged his horn with energy and fired his horn-beam, but Iron jumped aside. He then jump-kicked Goruo, downing the monster yet again. Iron then prepared to fire his own signature beam, the Hexanium Ray…
NO!” he heard suddenly. Iron looked around, and saw Ultraman Pole crawling towards him.
What is the meaning of this?” Iron said sharply. “What are you doing?
Iron”, Pole said. “Don’t kill Goruo. He’s innocent.” A moment of silence ensued.
Goruo is being controlled by that girl”, Pole continued. “It would be terrible to kill a monster when for once it isn’t responsible for the damage. I beg of you, don’t kill him. Please.” Iron stood for a while, staring at Pole. He then nodded.
“Very well”, he said. “I shall allow Goruo to live. There is little he can do now, anyway, with his injuries.” As they talked, they noticed that Goruo was silently crawling back into the lake. He got to the center of the lake when he suddenly dove into the water, disappearing completely.
He is a peaceful monster, after all”, Pole said happily.
Our enemy is most certainly gone from here”, Iron said. “I will get away to search for her. You should rest and recover. SHUWATCH!” Iron left into the sky, and so did Pole.

A few hours later, as Casper and Johan arrived to pick their fellow members up, Tanja glared at Peter.
“Peter, I have a question”, she said. Peter looked at her.
“Are you Ultraman?” she asked.
“What? Are you crazy?” Peter smiled. “Of course not!”
“But I think you are. You’re never here when Ultraman shows up, and you seem to know so much about him. And about our mysterious foe. Can you PROMISE that you’re not Ultraman?” After a moment of consideration, Peter nodded.
“Yeah”, he said, “I promise.” As Tanja accepted it and walked away, Peter mumbled “I’m just his host.”

EPISODE VIII: DOUBLE DRAGON

May 20th, 2044

Arlanda Airport, outside Stockholm

“Johan, Tanja”, Casper yelled in the communicator, while C.A.T was fighting the dragon Kradon on the Arlanda Airport runway. “Prepare another fly-by. Peter, you join me on the other side. We’ll try again to make it come to us.” The others acknowledged the order and flew around the green, winged, long-necked lizard. Kradon screeched loudly as two of the jets used their lasers to pummel it back, but they flew past it. Screeching at them, Kradon exhaled a cone of fire in their direction.
“Look out!” Tanja shouted, and she together with Johan made a sharp turn to the side to avoid the flames. Just as the flames were gone, Peter and Casper rushed right at Kradon and fired their super-powered missiles. The missiles impacted the dragon in the chest, and the sheer force knocked it down on its back. As the four jets took their advantage and ravaged it with lasers, the monster got up and roared in pain, its chest bleeding.
“All right”, Casper said in triumph. “Let’s finish it off! All jets, fire at will!” All the jets rushed at Kradon, but the monster suddenly vanished into thin air! C.A.T’s shots impacted the ground, creating a series of craters near the runway. As C.A.T circled the area, searching for their foe, Johan thought.
“Where was that thing from…?”

C.A.T HQ, Stefansborg, Sweden

”Vanished, you say?” Emelie asked when C.A.T relayed their report about the battle to her. Casper nodded.
“The dragon just popped away when we were beginning to beat it”, Casper said. “I have no idea what it’s about.”
“It could have something to do with that weird monster girl Peter and Tanja always go on about”, Johan said. “Right, Peter?”
“It could, yes”, Peter nodded. Silently, he communicated with Pole. Do you think so?
No, I don’t. There was some kind of aura surrounding Flamosaurus, Kraken, Greenmons and Goruo, but this dragon had nothing of it. I wonder where it came from.
Their conversation was halted when the C.A.T control room’s main screen flashed, indicating a message.
“What is it?” Emelie asked when a lower C.A.T operative came on screen.
“Hello, Captain Svärd”, he said. “We got a report from an excavation crew where they said they had found a strange ruin inside a cave. The ruin contains inscriptions that resemble the dragon the main force fought earlier today.”
“What!?” Emelie exclaimed. “Where are you?”
“Kiruna”, the operative replied. “I’ll mark it on the Catmap.” Emelie closed the screen and turned to the C.A.T team.
“C.A.T”, she said. “You’re going to Kiruna!”

May 21st, 2044

Kiruna, north Sweden

Casper yawned loudly.
“Ugh… why do we have to do this so early?” he muttered. “We spent the night getting here.”
“Oh come on”, Tanja snapped. “It didn’t take THAT long. I’m just happy the Catmap became useful for once.” The Catmap was a function of the C.A.T members’ special all-purpose communication devices, where a specific point would be pinpointed on the map screen for anybody authorized for that information. Facts could be written on these beacons, and the map could be zoomed in and out at will. More often than not, these beacons were used by the C.A.T team when off-duty, pinpointing a pizzeria, a party, or something else.
“Oh well”, Johan sighed. “Let’s find this ruin. You know, this is eerily similar to the Skodd scenario.”
“Yeah”, Peter nodded. “I think we ought to keep our precious little Casper outta there, him being so scared of the dark and all.”
“Shut up, Peter”, Casper muttered. “You can go first.” Peter smiled widely.
“You’re the boss”, he said.

Inside the cave, they met up with some excavation workers. They saw a tunnel leading deeper in.
“’Allo”, Casper said to one of the workers. “You wouldn’t happen to be ancient monster people, would you? I’ve had my fill already.”
“Uh”, one of the workers said, confused. “Not really, far as I know. You’re the C.A.T team then?”
“Yep”, Johan nodded. “We got a report about a kinda temple?”
“Yeah”, the worker nodded. “If you follow that tunnel there, you’ll come to a large cavern with a ruin in it. We found it shortly after that dragon had appeared. There’s got to be some connection.”
“Okay”, Casper said. “Let’s go!”
A while later, they came to the end of the tunnel. Astonished, they witnessed a gigantic cave in front of them. In the cave, they saw a big temple, at least a hundred meters high and almost as wide. Everywhere on the temple’s exterior, they saw carvings or statues resembling two different dragons. One resembled the one they fought earlier on Arlanda, but the other looked bigger and more menacing.
“What is this…?” Tanja mumbled. “It’s connected to the monster, but how?”
“We might find out inside”, Peter suggested. The others nodded in tandem, and so the C.A.T team entered the huge ruin.
Inside, they found what appeared to be two extremely wide pillars, but when they looked at one they saw that it was hollow and had a big hole in its side. The other was intact, though. On the walls of these two strange rooms, they saw runes. The team turned to Johan, who had some interest in runes. He examined them.
“Let’s see, it says…
Kradon the She, Keela the He, must trapped here forever be. Will Kradon flee, leave her free, or Keela shall extinguish thee.”

“Oh dear”, Casper said. “Which one did we meet?”
“We met Kradon”, Johan muttered.
“So what should we do?” Tanja asked.
“We need to trap her again”, Peter said. “We could use the experimental freeze cannons.”
“Great!” Casper said. “Good idea, Peter! We’ll freeze her and return her here!”
“It’s a plan, then”, Johan nodded. “Let’s find our scaly friend.”

Luleå, north Sweden

Kradon teleported back into human sight that night. Screeching loudly, it attacked Luleå in north Sweden. People fled before the creature as it stepped on houses and set entire city blocks on fire with its breath. Swedish army tanks were on their way, but it looked as if Luleå would be decimated soon.
“C.A.T! SCATTER!” Casper shouted in the comlink, and the C.A.T fighter jets spread out around the dragon. Kradon screeched again, confused, and breathed fire at her attackers. Tanja nimbly dodged the flames, and she and Johan attacked Kradon from the front with the laser guns. Kradon enclosed her front body in her large wings, and the durable wings easily absorbed the blows.
However, it was a trap. From behind, Peter and Casper released blue beams from their fighters upon Kradon. When they hit her, she began to turn blue, until she finally stopped moving.
“WE DID IT!” Casper shouted in triumph as the inanimate dragon stood, its body frozen. C.A.T prepared to fire the grappling hooks with which their jets would take Kradon back to her temple.
However, fate wished differently. The tanks had arrived, and they knew nothing of C.A.T’s plan. They opened fire on the frozen dragon, whose head gave in to the weapons. Kradon, unable to defend herself, fell to the ravaging fire of the tanks.
“Oh, that’s just ironic”, Johan said. “Stupid army.”
“Stupid US”, Tanja corrected him. “We should have notified them.”
“We have to go to Kiruna, fast”, Casper said. “Keela should be awakening soon. We have to stop him.”
“Let’s roll”, Peter said, and C.A.T turned around and began a high-speed flight to Kiruna.

Kiruna, north Sweden

Before long, the wall to Keela’s containment chamber collapsed, and the dragon stepped out.
Beloved, he thought. I can’t feel you anymore... where are you? Have the humans slain you? They must have... the curse does not allow me to awaken whilst you are alive.
I will kill them. I will kill them all. Kradon, beloved, I shall avenge you!
Keela looked up into the hole at the top of the cave. He then warmed his wings up before flying out. His mission was clear. He would kill everything.

Kiruna’s population was on the run, and Keela was after them. He didn’t care about sheer destruction, he wanted to kill. Landing on the road, in front of a mass of cars, he breathed a powerful cone of fire at them. The humans inside were completely incinerated, and all that was left was melted masses of metal. Turning around, he fired at more humans, also setting the forest on fire.
Soon, C.A.T arrived in their jets. Casper flew in the front, as usual.
“Shit”, he swore. “He’s already killed people!”
“We have to defeat him quickly”, Tanja said. “Otherwise, he’ll just move on doing this.”
“What about that fire?” Peter asked.
“Leave it to me”, Johan said. He flew to the fire and used the freeze ray, easily stopping the flames. The rest of C.A.T attacked Keela, using their missiles. The dragon turned around to see who dared to hurt him.
“SCATTER!” Casper shouted, but it was too late. Keela fired a jet of flames at the fighters, and although Casper and Tanja dodged it, Peter was caught in the flames and sent plummeting to the ground.
“Peter? PETER, RESPOND!” Tanja shouted in the communicator. “Are you okay? Hello?”
“I’m fine”, came the weak response. “You concentrate on Keela, I’ll get myself to safety.
“All right”, Casper said. “Be careful down there, he steps around an awful lot.”
But Peter hadn’t in his mind to run. Putting his left forearm up in the air, and the right hand on the bracelet on his left arm, he transformed into Ultraman Pole. Now the real battle began!
“Look, it’s Ultraman!” Johan said in delight. “Maybe we can win, after all!”
Ultraman Pole stood ready to attack. Keela looked at him, surprised at this new foe, but was prepared to fight him at full strength.
Finally, Pole attacked. He jumped high up in the air and delivered a flying kick to Keela’s head. The dragon was sent backing by the blow, and Pole got ready to attack again.
However, he underestimated Keela. The monster ran up and tackled Pole, who was so unprepared he tumbled back, flattening trees as he went. He got up soon, though, and blocked a series of strikes from the monster. He then grabbed Keela’s arm and did a judo-style toss, smashing the dragon down on the ground. Taking the advantage, he raised his right fist, charging it with energy. He then slammed Keela’s stomach, causing an explosion.
The dragon was not done yet. Keela fired a jet of flames at Pole, who got it in his face, and fell backwards. As the two fighters rose, they rushed at each other and grappled for a while, until Keela managed to toss Pole down again. The hero, unwilling to give up, jumped to his feet and crossed his arms over his chest. Then, he held his right palm forward, releasing a few, small, slow-moving energy balls in different directions.
Keela fell for the trap, as he could not see the small energy balls. He walked right into one of Pole’s Polium Mines, which exploded violently. The dragon was knocked back, right into a second mine, which sent him flying down. Deciding to finish the battle, Pole waited until his foe got up. He then held his arms forward, palms together, and crossed his arms like an X, firing his Polium Ray. Keela was hit by the beam head-on, and exploded. The dragon was no more.
As Peter rejoined C.A.T and they all flew home, somebody stepped out of the shadows. It was the white-clothed girl from earlier.
“Not bad, humans”, she muttered in a cold, snakelike voice lacking all emotion. “But I have a back-up plan. Though you defeated my champion, Goruo, and displayed great power against these ancient beings, you have no chance against me anymore.” And with those words, even if nobody heard her, she vanished.

EPISODE IX: BOGARA, THE MONSTER PRINCESS

June 1st, 2044

Mars, Fourth Planet from Sol

In a large crater, several monsters were peacefully walking about. That was all they could do, as they were mind-controlled to do so. These monsters were the property of a more powerful being.
Suddenly, a large monster swooped down and landed near them. It had wing-like openings from its back, whose edges seemed to be toothed. It had claws instead of hands, a long tail with a forked end and a gray body along which something that looked like exposed veins ran. Its head had horns on the sides and big, yellow, snakelike eyes, but no visible mouth. It looked around at the other monsters.
“Food”, it hissed. “It is time. I will now feast upon you, and your strength shall be mine. We shall become one, and many in one. And together, you shall help me avenge myself upon Ultraman Pole and Iron, both of whom have foiled me times enough.” As it talked, the controlled monsters gathered around her, and the “wings” grew farther out, merging with her arms, creating a gigantic, toothy mouth.
“It begins...”

C.A.T HQ, Stefansborg, Sweden

”You know”, Tanja said to Peter when they were hanging out at the headquarters. “I’ve been thinking.”
“Yes”, Peter nodded, “That’s very typical for you.”
“No, I mean, the monster girl. Boganne or whatever.”
“Bogar?” Peter asked. “SHE’S the one who’s been thinking?”
“I’VE been thinking about her”, Tanja said grumpily.
“Want to be her best friend?” Peter laughed. “But seriously, what about her?”
“She disappeared after Great Lake. We haven’t heard from her since then. I’m worried. She might be planning something.”
“I guess”, Peter nodded, “But we can’t predict her strikes. We’ll just have to wait until she shows herself.” He then yawned and looked out the window. He saw an Ultra Sign in the sky. Peter said “I think I’ll go out for a while.”
“Can I come with you?” Tanja asked. Peter shook his head.
“I want some time to myself, sorry.” Tanja’s face turned to an angry red.
“Well”, she exploded, “I don’t need to go with you anyway!” and she ran off, leaving a confused Peter.

Downtown Stefansborg, Sweden

Later, Peter was walking down Tor’s Street in the dark.
It’s easy to upset that girl, isn’t it? he heard Pole say in his head.
Yeah, he replied. She’s been like that as long as I’ve known her.
How long is that?
Four years. She joined C.A.T two years ago, like me. We’re old airforce buddies.
The airforce? Is that the name of the soldiers with airplanes?
Yes, Peter smiled. I always forget you don’t know so much about our planet.
But in return, you know nothing of mine. Hey, there he is. Peter looked and saw Max/Iron standing at the corner.
“Good day, Ultraman Pole. And, of course, Peter”, he said.
“What do you want, Iron?” Peter asked.
“I searched for any possible hint of the new Bogar’s presence. I discovered a group of monsters on Mars, near Colony-16, but they recently vanished.”
Oh no… Pole exclaimed. That’s bad.
“Very much so”, Iron nodded.
“Why?” Peter asked. “What do they have to do with her?”
Peter, Pole began, do you remember that she eats monsters?
“Oh yeah”, Peter nodded.
“She gains power by eating monsters”, Iron finished. “If all of those monsters, and they were at least five, just disappeared so suddenly…”
“…Then she must’ve gotten a real boost”, Peter nodded.
“Adding to that is my second discovery”, Iron continued, “These pictures are from European orbital satellites.” He gave a couple of pictures to Peter. One showed a distant, grey object in space, the other showed a gigantic, yellow, snakelike eye staring at the camera.
“I found out that all contact with the satellite was lost just after that second picture”, Iron said. “I am pretty sure that eye matches Bogar’s eyes from this picture, showing the Bogar Ultraman Mebius and Hikari fought so long ago.”
“So it’s her, too”, Peter nodded.
“And the satellite was over Stefansborg”, Iron finished. “She’s here.”

“Stupid Peter”, Tanja muttered as she walked down the street somewhere else in the city. “It really is impossible for you to play along, isn't it...”
“Interesting”, she heard a menacing voice behind her. When she looked, she saw the girl in white!
“YOU!” Tanja yelled. “You monster!”
“Yes”, the girl nodded. “Me monster. You human. I am happy we know our respective species. Now, I understand you are dear to him.”
“What…?” Tanja exclaimed. “What’re you talking about?”
“You are dear to him. To the host of Ultraman Pole.”
“Ultraman…? You know who he is?”
“Why, yes of course. His name is Peter Ström.”
“Peter…” Tanja repeated. “…I knew it.”
“As did I”, the girl said. “And I’m afraid I will have to use you to lure him out and kill him.”
“YOU MONSTER!” Tanja cried, drew her beam-gun and fired several shots at the girl. The girl barely flinched as the shots harmlessly impacted her chest, and held out a hand towards Tanja. From it, she emitted a shockwave that knocked Tanja down on the ground, and used telekinesis to draw Tanja’s gun to her hand.
“I thought we’d covered that topic”, the girl muttered as she looked at the gun in an almost curious manner. “Will you come with me now?”
“What… What ARE you…?” Tanja choked up between her horrified tears. And now, the always so emotionless girl smiled.
“I am the monster princess”, she said.

C.A.T HQ, Stefansborg, Sweden

The next day at C.A.T’s HQ, Johan ran around the building, room after room, with a pile of big letters. After a while, he bumped into Captain Emelie.
“Whoa, slow down!” she said on her brief journey towards the floor. “What’s the rush? We in a war?”
“No, sorry boss”, Johan apologized as he helped her up. “I was just trying to find Tanja to give her all of her comic book subscriptions before Mysterious and Strange Unexplained Enigmas with No Answers Yet starts on TV.”
“Yes, she’s late”, Emelie said as she brushed herself off. “She doesn’t oversleep that often, does she?”
“No”, Johan agreed. “And she left early yesterday, too.”
“Sleeping in is your job”, Emelie said. “I’m a bit worried.”
“Thanks boss, real nice”, Johan muttered. “All right, I’ll just place the stuff in her storage.”

“Peter”, Casper said.
“What?” the sleepy Peter muttered. He’d been up all night trying to help Pole learn a new special technique to beat Bogar.
“You’ll go wake Tanja up.”
“Wake her up?” Peter repeated.
“Yes”, Casper nodded. “She’s overslept.”
“Well ain’t that great”, Peter muttered. “All right, then. I’m going.”

Stenbruk District, Stefansborg

The Stenbruk district was often comically referred to as the Uh-Oh district by the inhabitants of Stefansborg. It had the city’s largest crime rate, and most of it was full of shabby buildings and drunkards. Rarely did anyone clean here. Rarely did anyone want to go here. By this description, dear reader, you can probably assume already that Tanja lived in the Stenbruk district. Given that she was not at the base, Peter assumed she had gone to her own home against regulations. Possibly, it was his fault.
“Tanja!” Peter yelled as he rang her doorbell. “I want you to get up and get to HQ, and I want you to do it YESTERDAY!”
Peter… Pole began.
NO, I’m not being too harsh, Peter snapped. She KNOWS our duty hours, and I am tired!
No, it’s not that. I’ve got a bad feeling.
Oh? What?
Break the door down.
Break it down? Why? And HOW?
My gut feelings are usually right. And you can with your bare hands, if you like. Remember I am sharing my abilities with you. And be prepared, I don’t know what’s inside.
All right… Peter said. He backed away, drew his beam gun, then kicked the door, which easily gave in to his superhuman strength. As he ran in, gun prepared, he was greeted by a scorpion-like humanoid creature, slightly taller than him.
“What are you!?” he exclaimed. “What have you done with Tanja?”
“I am merely a minion…” the creature said with a hissing voice. “I am sent by Bogara, the princess of monsters!”
“Princess of monsters? The spawn of Bogar?”
“That is correct”, the creature said. “The human called Tanja is safe for now. Not here.”
“Where is she?” Peter yelled, aiming at the creature. “What does Bogar want?”
“Bogara”, the creature corrected. “You are to find her and Tanja at an abandoned factory where humans have produced bubbly drinks.”
“I know what it is”, Peter said. “So what’re you going to do now? Kill me?” But he’d barely finished talking, when the creature seemingly dissolved into a grey-purple liquid that covered the floor.
It’s harmless, Pole mumbled. He just committed suicide.
Looks like his entire purpose was to deliver the message, Peter nodded. I’ll have to notify C.A.T.
I don’t think we should, Pole said. It might put Tanja in danger. Let us go to the factory this thing spoke of instead.
We can’t take her alone!
We won’t. I’m big. Iron will see us.

Former Yumsoda factory, “Uh-Oh” district, Stefansborg

Yumsoda was once the foremost Scandinavian soda company. When the original Gigantus incident destroyed their main office, however, they never recovered. Since nobody REALLY cared about Stenbruk, their factory there was left to age. Kids tended to play in the factory when it wasn’t occupied by crooks. When Peter entered it, however, it was eerily silent. Slowly stepping over the broken glass on the floor, he held his gun drawn.
“Hello…?” he said nervously. Pole might’ve had a chance against Bogara, but Peter was completely defenseless.
“Here, enemy”, he heard a hissing voice. When he looked around, he saw Bogara. Next to her was Tanja, completely unconscious.
“Tanja!” he exclaimed and ran up to her. She was breathing, her heart was beating… he sighed in relief.
“You monster!” he then shouted at Bogara, firing his gun at her to no effect other than burning small holes in her clothing.
“That phrase… is it some sort of battlecry?” she mumbled.
“Well, I’m here”, Peter said. “What have you done with Tanja?”
“She is perfectly fine”, Bogara said. “But she won’t be unless you meet my demands.”
“Demands?” Peter repeated. “You wanna blackmail me?”
“What I want”, Bogara said “involves no black letters. I want to fight Ultraman Pole. One-on-one.”
“Oh… crap”, Peter muttered.
“I want to fight without the intervention of C.A.T or Ultraman Iron. He will get his anyway. If you choose not to allow me the battle, I shall crush the girl’s chest with my powers.”
Not quite according to plan, was it? Peter muttered in his head.
I’ll try, Pole replied. We can’t allow her to hurt Tanja.
“All right, Bogara”, Peter nodded. “You’ll get your fight.”
“Good”, Bogara said. “Where will our battlefield be?”
“There’s a park big enough near here”, Peter said. “We can fight there.”
“No”, Bogara said. “That would put too many innocent people in danger. When I have previously summoned monsters, I gave people the chance to run. We shall fight outside of the city’s limits.” Peter was honestly surprised.
“I didn’t know you cared”, he said.
“They are not my enemies. Only you, C.A.T and Ultraman Iron are.”
“Good point”, Peter nodded. “Then we’ll fight in Oskarsberg Valley next to town. It’s where Pole met the first of your pets.”
“How fitting that I end him there, then”, Bogara nodded. She snapped her fingers, and both of them were transported to the valley. In the valley, Bogara jumped high up in the air and flew up in the clouds.
What’s she doing? Peter wondered.
She’s transforming… Pole said. Use the bracelet now.
Peter nodded and used the bracelet to transform into Ultraman Pole. As the blue and silver warrior stood ready in the valley, the monstrous Bogara soared down from the sky.
“Now, enemy”, the monster hissed, “You will die.”

EPISODE X: BATTLE AT TWO FRONTS

June 2nd, 2044

Oskarsberg Valley, Stefansborg, Sweden

A gentle wind blew through the valley as the two titanic opponents stared each other down in preparation for the greatest battle in modern day.
On one side was Ultraman Pole, the latest Ultraman to be Earth’s protector. On the other was Bogara, the monster that had been behind most monster attacks since Pole came to Earth. She considered only Pole, the monster fighting team C.A.T and Ultraman Iron, who helped Pole against her, as enemies. Not anyone else. However, if she succeeded, Earth would be unprotected against the monster attacks, a phenomenon that had been present since 1966.
What is it you have against me so badly…?" Pole said to his opponent.
“You have slowed my growth”, she hissed. “I feed upon mature monsters. By doing so, I myself can mature and grow. You and your friends have killed many of my meals, but I managed to collect a number of monsters on Mars. They are not as nutricious, but my powers have grown enough. I want to gain revenge on you for interrupting my life so much. In addition… I will eat you.”
EAT me?” Pole exclaimed. “Why?
“You are much more nutricious than them. With you, I will grow very powerful. After that, I will defeat and eat your friend Ultraman Iron… and then I am prepared.”
Prepared for what?
“I will be prepared for my purpose… the purpose of any living thing. To bring my race further.”
There are MANY of you?"
“No. We are always few in a generation… and past generations are often killed by Ultrans or their young. I might be eaten by my own children, but it would bring my race further.”
But how would you do this if there’s only one of you?
“We have a way”, Bogara explained. “We rip off a piece of ourselves and allow it to grow.” As Pole stood confused, Bogara raised her claw hands and added “But enough. We will fight.”

C.A.T HQ, Stefansborg, Sweden

Max of the British monster fighters D.O.G entered the building. No one there knew he was really Ultraman Iron, who had taken his place when Max was killed by a monster.
“Captain Umbridge”, Captain Emelie said. “Welcome to our arena. I admit I am clueless as to why you enter it.”
“Yes”, Max said, “I bet you are. I’ll get straight to the point…” he explained about Bogara and said that she had kidnapped both Tanja and Peter to lure the Ultramen out. He also admitted the truth about himself. To prove this, he transformed into a human-sized version of himself. He kept Pole’s identity secret, though.
“I can barely believe this…” Casper said. “But it seems true.”
“Crazy”, Johan said. “Why would she kidnap our team members to get to Ultraman…? This must mean…” and he and Casper pointed at each other, yelling “AHA!”
“No”, Max smiled, “it’s neither of you. Anyway, I came here to ask you to refrain from interfering with the fight.”
“Why?” Emelie said. “Our team is in danger here! So is the entire city! I want that monster stopped!”
“Me too”, Max said, “but you have no chance against that beast. I will aid Ultraman Pole. You will have to make sure we do not cause too much harm. And you’re my guarantee if she would get a back-up plan.” And saying this, he handed Johan a small box.
“What’s this?” Johan asked, and opened it. Inside were three small capsules.
“It is a special… weapon”, Max said. “If she summons aid, use one of them. And make sure nobody else is nearby… it might cause severe damage.”
“All right”, Emelie said, “we’ll play your game. But I’m holding you responsible to the safety of my team.”
“Don’t worry”, Max smiled. “I won’t let anyone die.”

Oskarsberg Valley, Stefansborg, Sweden

Bogara charged. Pole narrowly avoided her, but she turned around and slammed him with her claw. Pole stumbled, but avoided a second blow, then jumped up and kicked her head. He then gave Bogara a dashing elbow to the chest, and did a back flip to get some breathing room. As he looked up again, he noted that Bogara seemed completely unaffected by his attack. Wasting no time, however, he rushed up again…
…And was immediately hit by a purple energy blast from Bogara’s claw. The blast sent Pole flying back into the forest, crashing down onto the ground.
“I believed you to be stronger, Ultran”, Bogara hissed. “Or maybe it is only that I have fed myself too much for you.”
Bogara hissed loudly, and shot her energy blast again. Pole rolled to the side and narrowly dodged it, then got up again. He now knew Bogara’s power, and it frightened him. He had to fight back with all his strength or he would most surely die…
“You’re quite powerful, Ultran”, Bogara said. “I might be too much for you, but I prefer coming to minimal harm.” And with those words, Bogara raised a claw to the sky. As she did so, Pole saw something speed down at an alarming pace. It soon crashed down next to Bogara, and when the smoke cleared Pole saw something terrible… a second monster. It was tall, grey and lizardlike, with very small arms. Its back was covered in small spikes. Upon stepping out of its little crater, it gave out a high-pitched roar. Pole recognized it as Bemular, the first monster to fight an Ultran on Earth.
But soon it became clear that Bemular had little interest in attacking Pole. He just walked away… towards central Stefansborg! Pole realized this and rushed after him, but Bogara stepped in his way and slammed him with her tail, putting him down on a knee.
“Bemular is not for you, Ultran”, she hissed. “He’s a little distraction for our other friend.”
What do you mean?” Pole said while getting to his feet unhindered by Bogara.
Suddenly, Ultraman Iron appeared! He flew past Bemular and landed in front of the two of them.
“What…?” Bogara hissed, surprised. “Do you truly ignore the destruction Bemular will cause unhindered?”
I don’t have to worry about him”, Iron said. “He’ll get his anyway.”
“Are you putting trust in the humans? They are not powerful enough to stop him from killing tens… maybe hundreds before dying.”
You’ll see. Pole, let’s go!
Pole nodded, and he and Iron assumed a battle stance. Bogara let out a hissing roar and charged them. Iron and Pole sidestepped her, grabbed her arms and threw her to the ground. She got up and suddenly extended her tail until it wrapped around Iron. It then emitted electric shocks, stunning him, but Pole acted immediately, throwing his Polium Blade at the tail, severing it. Bogara screamed in agony, but turned around to face her enemies again. Iron threw the severed tail away and charged Bogara. The two grappled, and Pole ran up and rammed Bogara from the side. In sync with a throw from Iron, it sent Bogara rolling over the few remaining trees. Pole jumped on her, pummelling her back, but a sudden wave of force sent him flying back. He got up again, but his color timer was now blinking. Iron took the advantage while Bogara was getting to her feet and threw a ball of red light at her. It hit her chest, and she stepped back. She soon regained footing and repeatedly fired her energy blast at him. He dodged the first few, but soon began to get hit. It took three shots before he fell. The Ultrans rose and retook their battle stance. They were still in the advantage.

West of Stefansborg, Sweden

Bemular roared as he approached the city. Some valiant humans tried to draw him away using all sorts of equipment, including flamethrowers, hunting rifles and a fire truck’s hose. Bemular looked down upon the punies. Deciding upon the fire truck, he opened his mouth and exhaled a blue beam of pure heat, engulfing the truck in flames. He then proceeded to step on a house, and looked down to find the next thing to destroy.
The C.A.T team, Emelie now with them, arrived in a group-transport vessel, big enough for the entire group but not as fast as the jets. As they disembarked, they gazed upon Bemular.
“What weapon could Ultraman have prepared for this creature..?” Johan muttered.
“Whatever it is”, Emelie said, “we can’t allow it to fail. Johan, you’ll use the capsule when you get the chance. Casper and I will distract the monster from the air.” Johan nodded. Casper and Emelie went back into the aircraft and immediately flew up in the air again. They circled around Bemular, while Emelie fired a ray gun from the open door, catching Bemular’s attention. The monster circled around, firing its heat beam after them, but the aircraft was too hard to hit. Johan finally got to an open area, pressed the button on the capsule and threw it.
What happened then amazed every witness. A big shower of sparks erupted, and when it cleared, a new monster stood there. Like Bemular, it was lizardlike, but much more muscular and covered in what appeared to be stone plates. His spine was lined with spikes. A signal was soon heard through C.A.T’s communication link…
Iwamono ready for battle.”
“What’s this? We created a monster?” Casper said, shocked.
“I’m more concerned about which side it’s on”, Emelie replied.
This soon became clear as Iwamono roared loudly at Bemular. Bemular bellowed, and the fight was on. The two monsters collided, and it was clear that Iwamono was the stronger. Tackling Bemular away, he soon followed up by grabbing and tossing Bemular to the ground. Bemular soon rose and unleashed his heat beam upon Iwamono, but the powerful monster was barely affected. As the two giants fought, the C.A.T aircraft picked Johan up.
“Look, Iwamono is too powerful for him!” Johan said triumphantly.
“We can’t take chances”, Emelie said. “Man the Specium Cannon.”
Johan obeyed, stepping down to a gunner’s compartment on the underside of the aircraft. Harnessing a kind of energy similar to that which Ultramen often used for their attacks, the cannon boasted fantastic power unmatched by anything but the American and Japanese monster attack forces.
Iwamono opened his mouth, and his tongue glowed bright blue. A second later, he fired a laser beam from his tongue. The beam hit Bemular in the chest, and pushed him back nearly 50 meters before falling. The monster, clearly wounded, seemed to have trouble rising.
But as Iwamono triumphantly approached his foe, he suddenly vanished in a shower of sparks. These sparks flew back to the box with the capsules, now in the C.A.T aircraft.
“Iwamono’s gone..?” Johan said.
“He must have limited energy, like Ultraman”, Casper concluded. “Now’s our chance! We’re in position… FIRE!”
Johan immediately aimed and fired the Specium cannon. The cannon hit Bemular as he was trying to rise, and pierced a hole through the monster’s body. Bemular, emitting a faint roar, fell down dead.
“We did it!” Johan said. “We won!”
“Fantastic!” Emelie nodded. “If the Ultrans win their fight, Tanja and Peter are saved!”

Oskarsberg Valley, Stefansborg, Sweden

Bogara screeched, revealing her change in mindset. She was not confident anymore.
“Pole! Now!” Iron shouted. Pole nodded and unleashed the Polium Rain. Bogara managed to dodge the beams, but Iron jumped after her and kicked her head from the air. Bogara stumbled, dizzy, and Pole followed up by pummelling her chest. Iron and Pole both relentlessly punched and kicked until they slammed her into the mountainside. Nodding to each other, the Ultrans unleashed their signature beams, Polium Ray and Hexanium Ray. The beams hit Bogara’s stomach, and a gigantic explosion erupted.
“Did we get her…?” Pole asked.
The answer came as Bogara fell down powerless. She was breathing, but wounded. The monster struggled to get up, and Iron approached her…
“Wait… wait…” she hissed. “I surrender. Don’t kill me. I don’t wish to die.”
“Why should we give you mercy, monster?” Iron muttered. “You’re not like Goruo. You eat any living thing.”
“I’ll leave the planet”, she said. “Whatever you want. Just don’t kill me…”
Iron paused for a moment, but put his arms ready to fire the Hexanium Ray again.
“Iron, wait”, Pole said. “Let’s spare her.”
“Pole…?” Iron said, confused.
“She’s defeated anyway. There’s nothing more she can do against us. Plus she did never specifically attack humans.”
“Are you sure about this, Pole?” Iron said. “She could try to attack us again.”
“By then…” Pole said cheerily, “I’ll be much better.”
“All right”, Iron said. “If it’s what you want. Bogara, you’re free to go. Leave the planet now, before I change my mind.”
“Yes”, Bogara said. “Thank you, Ultrans.”
She rose to her feet, and soon flew up in the sky, disappearing among the clouds.

C.A.T HQ, Stefansborg, Sweden

“I can’t believe you’re letting him order us around”, Johan muttered to Captain Emelie.
“He’s the only way for us to get our teammates back”, she said. “If we do as he says, we’re more likely to get them.”
“What a lazy team”, Peter said, suddenly entering with Tanja and Iron.
“Peter! Tanja!” they all shouted excitedly.
“Where were you?” Casper asked.
“Yumsoda”, Tanja muttered. “We were apparently knocked out all the time. I need ice. Lots of it.” Emelie looked to Iron.
“What was that monster you gave us?” she asked.
“It was a Capsule Monster”, he replied. “Ultraseven of the Ultra Brothers first used them. A capsule with a monster compressed in it for use when the Ultran can not fight himself under whatever conditions apparent. He gave me this new batch to give you as a present.”
“For us?” Casper said, surprised.
“Yes”, Iron nodded. “Ultraman Pole, still an amateur, is here. Per tradition he helps the humans fight monsters. Ultraseven thought you might find use for these when he’s unable to fight for you.”
“I see”, Emelie said. “Thank you, Ultraman. What will you do now?”
“I will return to D.O.G. Possibly retire from them and go back into space later. The mission I came here for is over, anyway. Thank you all for your help…”
“You’re welcome”, Emelie said. “I’m thankful for your aid in retrieving my team. You’re very welcome to come back anytime.”
“I’ll consider it”, Iron smiled. “Farewell.” And a moment later, he vanished into thin air. A few moments passed in silence, until the silence was broken by Johan.
“So what’s for dinner?”

Bogara stopped over the atmosphere to take one last look at the planet. She couldn’t believe her luck in surviving. The Ultrans were kind, after all. In return, Bogara had left them with a parting gift. She had erased Tanja Oskarsson’s memory of ever learning the identity of Pole’s host.
“Beware, planet Earth”, she hissed silently. “I’m not the only one to pay a visit.”

EPISODE XI: HURRICANE HENRIETTA STRIKES

June 14th, 2044

South of Göteborg, Sweden

Two boys were out playing in the forest. Running amongst the trees playing catch, they soon heard a loud noise.
“What’s that?” one of them said, pointing to a strange, whirling cloud.
“Is it a whirlwind?” the other said. “I’m scared… let’s go inside.”
“Okay”, the other nodded, and they ran back to the house. One of the boys’ mother ran out and quickly grabbed them, running inside again.
“Quick, get to the basement!” she shouted. “Hurry!”
As they all hid in the basement, they heard the crushing winds over them. Some time passed, and the mother dared to look up in the house again. But the house was no longer there.

C.A.T HQ, Stefansborg, Sweden

“A hurricane?” Tanja said.
“Yes”, Emelie nodded. “A hurricane just appeared without warning south of Göteborg. Since there is no logical explanation, we have been called to investigate this phenomenon.”
“How big a hurricane?” Casper said.
“We are talking category 5 hurricanes”, Emelie said sharply. “They’ve concluded that it’s moving southwest, so Göteborg is safe. Skrämsby, a small society, is in grave danger and is being evacuated as we speak.”
“Oh… what the heck!?” Johan exclaimed. “It’s gonna FLATTEN the place!”
“I know”, Tanja nodded. “There hasn’t been anything like THAT in Sweden since Hurricane Greta in the 2020s.”
“So this one is what, Helen?” Peter muttered.
“Henrietta”, Emelie said. “Anyway, this is a great opportunity to try out our newly-developed equipment.”
“What is that?” Casper asked.
“Anti-Gravity generators”, Johan pushed in. “We’ve apparently had them in development since Greta struck. They’re supposed to allow top-priority flights in extreme conditions to function normally. They’ve been considering dropping the development since it’s so expensive.”
“Anyway, some of the generators were produced”, Emelie nodded. “To be used as emergency evacuations during hurricanes, for example. We’ve been authorized to outfit our G-10 All-Team Action vessel with one of them to enter the hurricane and try to find out how it appeared.”
“And with ‘We’”, Tanja smiled, “You mean…”
“Yes”, Emelie grinned. “I mean the four of you. Move out!”

Vicinity of Skrämsby, Sweden

The aircraft approached the gigantic, swirling cloud. In the aftermath of the hurricane was nothing. A few fallen trees, some planks, but almost everything was simply gone.
“Just look at that…” Tanja said, shocked, as she looked out. “It’s not even like it’s blown away… it’s as if it was all just removed.”
“I think this job really is for C.A.T”, Johan nodded. “This hurricane isn’t normal.”
“It’s like it’s sucking the materials in”, Casper muttered. “How could it do that?”
“I don’t know”, Peter said, “But I think I’ve noticed something.”
“What?” the others said in chorus.
“It’s been still in this place for a long time. It’s a bit strange.”
“Is that a problem?” Casper said. “Maybe it’s just taking a leak or something. All right, diving in. Antigravity – Activated!” A sparkling field was emitted around the vessel, and Casper steered it right into the hurricane.
“We have to get to the center of the hurricane”, Tanja noted. “It’s probably the most likely place to find out the mystery here.”
“I’m going”, Casper snapped. “Don’t forget who the field leader here is.”
“It’s easy to do that once we’re on the ground”, Johan laughed. “You’d gasp at the sound of a mouse.”
“Well, we’re not landing HERE, that’s for sure”, Peter said. “That’d be cra- what’s that?” The crew looked ahead, and saw a giant figure obscured by the dust clouds. No sooner did they notice it than a lightning bolt suddenly headed right at them! The aircraft took it head-on and started burning.
“What was that!?” Casper screamed.
“Oh shit, we’re crashing!” Tanja shouted. “Brace yourselves!”
The aircraft rapidly lost altitude, but as they passed, they could get a clear view of their attacker. It was a giant monster. It was gray and lizardlike, with blade-like fingers and a long tail. Its mouth was a big, round, toothy hole that emitted a howling sound. It had insectlike, multifaceted green eyes, and on its head were two big antennae. Its name was Fuujin. In the brief moment C.A.T passed, they could see the monster suck in debris off the ground before they crashed down nearby.

C.A.T HQ, Stefansborg, Sweden

“C.A.T unit!” Emelie yelled into the microphone. “Respond! What happened?” The door to Emelie’s office opened, and Josefin, of the lower-ranked staff, entered with some coffee.
“Is there a problem, Captain?” she asked nervously.
“No contact with the team”, Emelie muttered, not touching the coffee. “Something happened.”
“Don’t worry”, Josefin smiled, “they’ll be okay. And Ultraman’s here to help, too.” She smiled and walked away.
“How’d he fight a hurricane?” Emelie mumbled as Josefin left.

Inside Fuujin’s Hurricane

“Uh… everyone okay?” Casper said, dizzy.
“We need to get out!” Johan shouted. “The ship’s on fire!” He and Tanja quickly carried Casper and Peter, both barely conscious, out of the ship, and not soon after the fire reached the fuel tank, igniting it and creating an explosion that could have killed the team.
“So it was a monster all along”, Tanja said as the team took shelter in a hole in the stone ground. “And he’s eating everything. That explains it.”
“He evaded attacks by masquerading as a natural disaster”, Johan nodded. “Quite a clever thing.”
“So what do we do?” Tanja muttered. “We were lucky enough to find shelter, but we can’t get OUT again!”
“Don’t you worry”, Casper said. “Any minute now, Ultraman will show up and save the day.” Silently, Peter muttered “Fat chance”.
A long time passed, though no one in the team could say for sure how long it was. Tanja and Casper eagerly looked out to see if Ultraman Pole would show up soon. Johan tried to catch some sleep, and Peter sat still. To the others, it looked like he was just annoyed, but in reality he was discussing with Pole.
So say we make this big explosion in the cave and disappear through the confusion?
It could kill the others, and what explanation would we have?
True that... well, how about rushing out blindly shouting I’ll save the day?
They’d think you’re nuts, for starters. And it’d still be too obvious.
Before Pole had time to add anything else to the discussion, Peter rose to his feet and made his way to the opening.
“I’ll save the day!” he shouted, and rushed out blindly into the storm, despite shouts and attempts to stop him from Casper and Tanja.
Out in the storm, Peter ran safely protected by his Ultran powers. He finally reached the beast Fuujin, who was busy sucking in debris.
“Bet you didn’t expect THIS, monster!” Peter shouted and held up the bracelet. Fuujin immediately turned around and, not wasting a second, shot a beam from one of its antennae, hitting next to Peter and knocking him down.
Seems like a good plan, doesn’t it? Pole remarked.
Fuujin directed his attention to the persistent human, who had risen again and repeatedly dodged his antenna beams. Suddenly, he was hit by a blast from behind him. Turning around, he saw a human in between some large rocks. The human fired again, and Fuujin prepared to retaliate when suddenly another blast hit him. Turning to this second place, two more humans were shooting at him.
“You keep your ugly, gluttonous mug away from our teammate!” the female shouted. Fuujin charged his antennae to kill her... when he saw a mysterious blue light. Examining it, he saw it transform into a giant, blue man.
Ok, Peter, I admit I didn’t actually think they’d rush out after you, but you just got lucky.
Shut up. Let’s do this already.
Fuujin was the first to attack. His already charged antennae fired a series of blasts at Pole, who stood with his chest puffed out, enduring the attack. He then made a taunting hand gesture and took a ready stance as Fuujin moved towards him. Kicking the monster in the chest, he then grabbed its head and tossed it down. Fuujin rose, and rammed Pole, but when it attempted to attack again, Pole grabbed its hand and tossed it down once more. Fuujin rolled away and rose yet again, but stepped away from Pole. Pole rushed after, not wanting to give Fuujin safe distance, but Fuujin was prepared. Its antennae lit up and Pole started feeling the wind blow towards him at a powerful level. Within seconds, the blue giant was swept off his feet and slammed into the ground far away. With glee, Fuujin approached Pole to attack again, but Pole recovered quickly, got up, and punched Fuujin’s face. As the monster backed, Pole followed up with a spinning back-kick, then a tackle as Fuujin spun around, sending the monster back on the ground. Fuujin rose, roared loudly in rage, but Pole grabbed his antennae, and with a great pull, tore them off his head.
“Look!” Tanja said. “The monster’s weakening!”
And she was right. Fuujin looked more and more tired and dizzy. Gradually, the heavy winds were dissipating. Pole took the advantage, crossed his arms, and fired his Polium Ray at Fuujin. The monster took the beam in the chest and exploded violently.
“He got him!” Casper cheered.
As the team regrouped, Peter emerged from some rocks.
"Where've you been?", Tanja asked.
“I chickened out."

EPISODE XII: MY FRIEND, THE MONSTER

June 28th, 2044

C.A.T HQ, Stefansborg

“My oh my”, Johan said when Peter showed up. “You do look like shit today.”
“Yeah”, Peter muttered, “I... uh... couldn’t sleep.”
“Good morning team”, Emelie said when she entered. “I’ve got good news for you today.”
“We’re going to get six months of paid vacation?” Casper asked.
“No”, Emelie grinned. “You’ll be getting a new teammate.”
“What?” Tanja exclaimed. “Why? We’re doing well enough on our own!”
“So think how much better you’ll be now”, Emelie replied. “We have gotten a boost in our funding due to the hurricane monster. People want to see the monsters go, and lots of companies want to use that wish for some extra spotlight.
“We’re sponsored?” Peter muttered. “That’s annoying. I don’t want to rush around in a plane showing the Coca Cola logo.”
“You won’t. The money’s just donated. No obligations. It makes them look good, and makes us perform well, so who am I to complain? Besides, I managed to find a guy who’s just right for the task.”
“Who’d that be?” Johan asked.
“His name is Morita Taiki, from Japan”, Emelie clarified. “He’s worked at S.T.A.S, but will join us instead now.” S.T.A.S, Strike Team For All Situations, was the recently-established Chinese team, in response to a monster called Dino Zaur.
“Oh, pretty competent then”, Tanja smiled. “Does he look good?” As Emelie was about to answer, seeming to blush slightly, her communicator beeped, and she took the call. Listening for a while, she hung up and said “Monster sighting north of Stockholm. Hop to it!”

Finskog, north of Stockholm

The team arrived around lunchtime and immediately went to the C.A.T agent who’d reported the sighting. He stood waiting for them, and greeted them as they arrived.
“Good day. I’m happy you could arrive so shortly.”
“What’s the situation?” Casper asked.
“In the forest, about a kilometre to the north of here”, the agent informed them, “five campers reported a... giant ape, about 40 to 50 meters tall, walking near a mountain.”
“It’s impossible, isn’t it?” Tanja commented. “This place is one of the monitored areas since that Bogara person squeezed out her Greenmons so nearby.”
“Yeah”, Johan nodded, “they must have imagined it.”
“Not only the campers reported it”, the agent said. “So did seven other people at different occasions, but it was disregarded and nothing was found.”
“It’s at least worth a look”, Peter smiled. “A short walk and that’s it. Wasting dead time.”
“Good idea”, Casper laughed, and the team went off.

Halfway there, they saw a diner and decided to take a little snack. Going in and ordering some food, they sat down.
“It’s nice though”, Johan said. “We rarely find monsters and just end up doing nothing.”
“Except respond to dead calls like this”, Tanja pointed out.
“That’s right”, Johan nodded. “And we get a fat pay for it.” As the team continued their conversation, they saw a boy run out from behind the counter.
“I’m going to see the magic monkey!” he shouted to the woman at the counter. Casper couldn’t help but smile.
“Magic monkey?” he said. The woman looked at him.
“It’s his imaginary friend”, she said. “He keeps saying how he visits it in the forest to the north. I figure that why not, he still spends time with his schoolwork, so I let him do it.”
“Wait, wait, wait”, Peter said. “To the north?” he turned to the team. “Wasn’t that where the giant ape was reported?” The others nodded and rose.
“Aren’t you going to finish your food?” the woman asked.
“We’re going to need a talk with the boy...” Casper said, and C.A.T left.

Arriving at the forest, they looked around at the beautiful hills.
“Pretty neat hiding place”, Johan said. “Look, there’s the kid.” The team ran up to him.
“Are you Alfred Normansson?” Casper asked.
“Yes”, the boy replied. “Go away, this is my special place.”
“I don’t mean any harm”, Casper said. “However, people say there’s a giant ape in this forest, and you seem to know about it.”
“It’s Osaru”, Alfred smiled. “He’s the magic monkey. He’s my friend.”
“The monster is your friend?” Tanja frowned.
“He’s not a monster!” Alfred snapped. “He’s just big, that’s all.”
“And you meet him?” Casper asked. “Does he seem friendly?”
“Of course he’s friendly”, Alfred said. “I can show you.”
“Please do”, Peter said. Alfred took out a flute and began playing. Soon, the sound of something big walking was heard, and from behind a hill, what appeared to be a giant gorilla-like being appeared. It was Osaru. Osaru walked to Alfred and C.A.T, who held their weapons ready.
“Don’t do anything”, Alfred said. “Don’t scare him.” Osaru made some grunting sounds and picked up a handful (By his size) trees, stuffing them in his mouth. As Alfred continued to play his music, Osaru seemed to start dancing to the tune.
“Amazing...” Johan said. “This is truly amazing. This monster accepts humans. I’ve never seen anything like it.”
“Alfred”, Casper said, “Could you perhaps come with us for a while and tell us more about how you became friends with Osaru?”
“No”, Alfred said. “I want to stay with him.”
“Please”, Casper continued. “It would help our work immensely and make many people happy.” He placed a hand at Alfred’s shoulder as he talked, and when Osaru noticed this, he roared loudly and stood upright threateningly.
“Osaru, it’s all right,” Alfred shouted. “They’re friends!” But the giant monkey wouldn’t listen and slammed his fist down on the hills.
“He thinks we’re being bad to Alfred”, Tanja said. By this time C.A.T had pulled their guns.
“Fire”, Casper said despite Alfred’s objections, and the team fired a volley of energy beams at the giant monkey, who hopped around like crazy and walked off to the town! Peter, realizing he had to do it, ran off to a hidden spot and transformed into Ultraman Pole.
From his new perspective, he could see Osaru approach a power line and press his hands down on it, seeming to absorb the energy. Pole stepped towards the monkey, unwilling to fight him out of sympathy for both Osaru and Alfred, but Osaru was not so kind. Upon noticing Ultraman Pole, he roared in anger and approached him. Pole backed a bit, but Osaru charged, causing the two of them to tumble down upon the hills. Pole rose, doing a backflip to get away, but Osaru charged again. Pole hit the monkey with a spinning kick to the side, but Osaru countered with a punch to Pole’s face. The blue giant grabbed Osaru and tossed him down, angered himself, but Osaru got up. The two began to grapple, but suddenly Pole felt a rush of energy shocks go through him from Osaru’s hands. As he stumbled back, Osaru hit him in the chest, then on the chin, causing him to fall. Pole got up, though, and stormed back with several punches to the ape’s stomach followed by an uppercut. As he approached his fallen foe to strike again, the two warriors heard the sound of Alfred’s flute.
Osaru seemed to calm down, and when he arose, he looked to the child who had begun playing his flute with a tear-eyed face. Osaru sat down, looking a bit shameful, and so did Pole. He put a hand on Osaru’s shoulder and nodded in a friendly manner, and Osaru seemed to respond. He rose again and gave Pole a tight hug, and Pole couldn’t help but hug back.

As the team then left, things were a bit quiet.
“What do we report?” Johan asked.
“I think we should be quiet”, Peter muttered. “We can tell the Captain, but nothing should leak to the press. The media would be all over this place and there’d be a bit of a scandal craze about getting him away. And he’s not really hurting anyone.”
“True,” Casper nodded, “We'll just make a small report.”
As the team walked away, Osaru, smiling, returned to his cave, happy to have found a new friend.

EPISODE XIII: GRAVE ROBBER FROM BEYOND THE STARS

July 4th, 2044

Karlstad Monster Research Centre

It was a cold, silent night in Karlstad, and even the ever-active KMRC was now dark. Here, deceased monsters were brought for study. The last of the scientists had left for home, and the janitors had locked the building up.
Suddenly, a purple light shined up in front of the building, and when it disappeared, a dark, humanoid female figure stood upright, obscured by the night but clearly at the size of Ultraman. The figure gazed at the research centre, and flashed her eyes purple, after which several different streams of energy erupted from the research centre and into her chest.
Almost immediately after, Ultraman Pole landed.
Who are you?” he demanded. “Why are you here? What are you doing?” The woman just gazed at him and took flight. Pole took flight as well, pursuing her. She looked back at him and flashed her eyes again before speaking. Her voice was eerie, as if she spoke with several voices at once.
“Don’t interFERE, Ultran - THIS does NOT concern you!” Pole seemed taken aback by her voice, and she suddenly vanished in a flash of purple light.

C.A.T HQ, Stefansborg

“...and that’s the entire report”, Emelie concluded to the team. “Luckily we had an agent nearby... civilians say the darndest things.”
“They just talked a bit and made a lightshow”, Tanja said. “What’s the big deal? Maybe Ultraman got a girlfriend.”
“The pictures don’t look like that”, Casper said while oozing through the photographs sent in. “Ultraman seems to be confronting her. And what came out of the KMRC?”
“I wonder how Ultraman could react so fast”, Johan muttered. Peter smiled to himself. In reality, Pole had just been practicing when he felt a strange energy reaction.
“After the light erupted from the KMRC”, Emelie said, “Scientists said this morning that the monster bodies they had intact, Greenmons and Kradon, had begun decaying rapidly. One of them said, and I quote, ‘it was as if their souls had vanished’.”
“Souls?” Casper laughed. “That’s silly. They really believe that?”
“There wasn’t much else to say about the energy”, Emelie frowned. “Come up with a better explanation. The point is, she caused damage to our property for some reason, and I’d like to know why. This being is sentient, so I believe we can communicate with it. Somehow, we must lure her out.”
“I have an idea”, Peter said. “We still have Bemular intact. They’re preparing to move him to Karlstad right now. Why don’t we try to lure her out with him?”
“Good plan”, Emelie nodded. “However, we aren’t sure we can just talk with her. I need to be sure we can communicate.”
“I have an idea”, Johan said. “Ultraman could talk to her. Maybe he can do it again. If we try to find him, we can have him discuss this with the black lady.”
“Well done”, Emelie smiled. “Ultraman it is. Everyone scatter out and home your systems in on Specium energy. That should make it easy to find him. Once you do, use the Info bomb to relay the message to him.” The C.A.T team nodded and went on its way.

Not long after, Peter stood by himself.
So you understand, Pole? We need to transform and just hang out somewhere to make this believable. You could just stand and practice in Oskarsberg or something.
I get it. However, I’m a bit uneasy about meeting that woman. She seemed eerie, somehow...
She seems to me like a giant-sized necrophiliac, but I’ll keep my thoughts to myself. He then held his left arm up and put his right hand on the Ultra Bracelet, transforming into Ultraman Pole. Pole immediately made a short-range teleportation and arrived in Oskarsberg. Well there, he concentrated his energy to make himself visible on the C.A.T monitors and proceeded to do nothing in particular.

“I see him!” Johan said triumphantly. “This is so cool! I can see Ultraman out of a battle!”
“What’s he doing?” Casper asked.
“He’s... drawing stuff in the mud...”
“Whatever”, Tanja giggled. “Just send him the message.” Johan nodded and fired the Info bomb. Upon impacting the ground in front of Pole, it showed a text with instructions:

ULTRAMAN
PLEASE TALK TO UNKNOWN ALIEN FROM YESTERDAY AND FIND OUT WHAT SHE DID TO MONSTER BODIES
CAN IT BE REVERSED?
OH, AND WHAT’S THE NAME OF YOUR TAILOR?

Pole nodded, and Johan, after watching him a bit more, left.

Open plain, location classified

“This is so cool”, Tanja smiled as she looked upon the dead monster’s still body. “We’re going to see Ultraman do something else than fight.”
“Don’t lie still though”, Casper said. “She might be unfriendly.”
“Where’s Peter, by the way?” Tanja asked.
“I heard he’s in a shelter with some low-ranked agents”, Casper replied. “You know, if we need backup.” The truth, however, was that Peter hid out in preparation for the woman’s arrival.
Suddenly, all people present heard a loud rumbling noise, as if something was digging through the ground.
“She travels by tunnelling?” Johan said. As if to answer his question, the tunnelling thing burst from the ground. It was not the woman... it was a giant rat monster! Its name was Deutalios. It was mostly like a normal rat, except it had longer and more muscular legs, especially the back ones. As it roared a high-pitched sound, the team could see the eerie assortment of teeth it had.
“It’s not the woman! Get it away from here”, Casper shouted. “Open fire!” The C.A.T team, and the lower-ranked operatives present, opened fire upon the giant rat, who shook himself. His fur seemed to stiffen and harden, and the blasts ricocheted off his body. He then proceeded to approach the prone body of the dead Bemular.
“He’s here for the food”, Johan proclaimed. “We don’t have time for this nonsense!” Tanja nodded and decided to use one of the special weapons in C.A.T’s arsenal. She went aside and entered her jet, proceeding to violently tap commands on the console. The jet proceeded to transform, just like the D.O.G jets, and displayed a big dish. She pushed the button, and the Maser beam, brightly yellow-colored and electrical, hit Deutalios’ head. The monster was thrown off his feet, but soon rolled up again and looked around in rage. Just then, another rumbling noise was heard...
...and a new monster emerged from the ground! C.A.T recognized it as Dontosaurus, a monster once briefly spotted in Norway. Dontosaurus rose, shook the mud off him and roared loudly. He was a yellow lizard creature, semi-humanoid but with a big tail and a pair of big fangs.
“ANOTHER monster!?” Casper moaned. “We’re screwed! What does Dontosaurus want here, anyway?”
The answer soon became clear, because Dontosaurus walked to Bemular’s corpse. Deutalios didn’t approve of this and roared to make his opinion known. Dontosaurus turned around, roared back, and the fight was on. The two opponents charged each other immediately. Deutalios managed to ram Dontosaurus’ stomach and then bite his side. Dontosaurus managed to throw Deutalios off him, though, and when Deutalios lunged at him, Dontosaurus was prepared. He caught his flying opponent in his jaws, sinking his fangs into Deutalios’ shoulder. Lifting Deutalios up with tremendous jaw strength, Dontosaurus threw him more than 30 meters. Deutalios was far from defeated though. He curled up in a ball, and his fur changed again to stick out in a spiky manner. He then rolled at Dontosaurus. Hitting his opponent in the stomach again, he then rolled back to strike once more. This time, Dontosaurus unleashed white wave of force from his body, sending the spherical offender flying once more. Deutalios uncurled and charged another time, but Dontosaurus kicked and punched him relentlessly. Finally biting Deutalios in his neck, Dontosaurus roared as his opponent fell down, dead.
“What’s making all the monsters appear?” Johan said, horrified.
“Maybe it’s the stench of death”, Casper muttered. As Dontosaurus began chomping on Deutalios, Ultraman Pole finally arrived. Dontosaurus turned around, furious at whoever disturbed his meal. Pole took a battle stance, and Dontosaurus immediately attacked. Pole sidestepped him and kicked him down, but Dontosaurus stormed back. The two grappled until they both fell, rolling around on the ground, trying to get the upper hand. Dontosaurus unleashed his force wave again, pushing Pole off his body. Pole got up and placed a Polium mine in the air. He then taunted the monster, who stupidly fell for the trap and walked right into the mine which exploded on impact. Pole followed up by a punch to the jaw and a spinning kick to the side. He then held a hand out, engulfing Dontosaurus in a field of energy. Using telekinesis, he then moved his opponent up in the air almost 1000 meters before slamming him down in the ground. As Dontosaurus writhed around, many of his bones broken, Pole jumped up in the air and slammed his foot down on the monster’s head, crushing Dontosaurus’ skull and killing him.
“I get it!” Tanja said triumphantly. “He doesn’t destroy the monster because he’s luring the mystery lady with the corpses!”
It had become dark. Soon, a flash of purple light was seen and the mystery woman appeared again. Now, however, she was seen clearer. She had a metallic, mask-like face like the Ultrans, but her body was entirely black. She had spiky shoulder pads, a transparent, short cape, and a very long black ponytail. She didn’t waste time, instead immediately flashing her eyes like before, and Pole could see streams of energy flow from the three monster bodies.
Hey, you”, he said. “What are you doing this for? Who are you?” The woman looked at him.
“My name IS NECRONA Seijin. I feed UPON souls FOR nutricion and you are a DISTURBANCE”, he heard, again with her eerie multi-voice.
Riiiight...” Pole said, “You wouldn’t mind doing that somewhere else? They were trying to study the monsters you affected, and they decayed into useless goo.
“Not my PROBLEM” Necrona Seijin said.
There’s not only that”, Pole continued. “You attract monsters, it seems. We’d all like it if you would kindly do your business elsewhere.
“I don’t CARE about your SAFETY. My food is always IMPORTANT.”
Well, I hoped we could solve this...
“ I intend TO continue WHAT I do now.”
Pole wanted to object, but Necrona light-flashed her body again and vanished, leaving Pole standing in the cold plain as the wind kicked higher.
Necrona Seijin...

EPISODE XIV: BATTLE AT MIDNIGHT

July 10th, 2044

C.A.T HQ, Stefansborg, Sweden

The team sat still, with little interest awaiting the arrival of their new member. Peter chewed on bubble gum, Tanja was reading a comic book (Adventures of Ultraman Elite), Casper looked at a magazine about aircraft, and Johan just looked absent-mindedly out the window. Emelie, on the other hand, stood upright, looking at the clock. The new member, Morita Taiki, was late by half an hour.
“Chickened out, I say”, Casper smiled.
“He’ll be here”, Emelie reassured them.
“What makes him so special to you?” Johan asked. “You act like he’s worth as much as the four of us.”
“Well at least two of you”, Emelie grinned. Peter popped a bubble and smiled.
“What a burn”, he explained. Almost seconds later, a young Asian man in a C.A.T uniform entered the room.
“Morita Taiki reporting for duty”, he said. “I apologize for the delay, but I got stalled by a news report of an abnormality in the Stockholm harbor!”
“Wow”, Casper said. “Nice entrance.”
“Thank you sir”, Taiki smiled. “I suggest, however, that we waste no more time on me. I am, after all, here to serve the team.”
“I suppose”, Peter said. “You’ll still get a welcome party, though.”
“I pushed them for that”, Emelie smiled. The C.A.T team looked shocked. Captain Emelie... looked FRIENDLY? How… why… what?
“As Morita said”, Emelie turned to the team, “there have been reports of an abnormality in Stockholm. Apparently, the fish is dying out, and fish skeletons are covering the surface. Since there’s no explanation to be found, we’re getting called in. I suspect…”
“…A monster”, Tanja grinned. “Like you always do.”

Stockholm Harbor

Apart from all the dead fish, the day was floating on normally. The weather was nice, the sun was shining, and everyone went along with their own business.
Suddenly, a monster burst out of the water. It looked like a gigantic, humanoid sharklike creature. Its head was long and had a short, sword-like protrusion on the snout, and a fin on the back. Its mouth was filled with frightening teeth, and its hands possessed quite intimidating claws. It emitted a roar that was not entirely unlike the sound of an elephant, quickly sending the people off running in fear. Its name was Fukumono.
Fukumono roared his peculiar roar again and stepped further into the harbor, approaching dry land. Boats turned from the harbor in terror, shook with the rough waves Fukumono emitted, and some smaller ones tipped over by just that. As Fukumono heard a horn signal from a large ship, he turned to it, enraged at the disturbance. Opening his mouth, he expelled a big mass of acid at the ship. Hit with the cascade, the ship slowly burned apart, and fukumono roared with glee before turning around and walking to land again.
That’s when C.A.T’s jet squadron arrived. This time, they were not four. They were five, as Taiki had been provided his own jet.
“C.A.T unit scatter!” Casper shouted as the combat leader. “Cat 2, 3 and 5 attack from behind. Cat 4, you go with me.” The others acknowledged the order and split up. Peter, Tanja and Taiki flew around to Fukumono’s back and began emptying their weaponry upon him, while Casper flew straight for his face and Johan followed him tightly behind.
Fukumono, enraged, turned to the closest target, that being Casper, and expelled his acid again. Johan reacted immediately and shot a beam at Casper’s jet, immediately emitting a spherical shield that reflected the acid back on Fukumono. As the monster screamed in pain, Casper shot a missile from his jet. The missile hit Fukumono’s mouth, causing him to accidentally swallow. A moment of silence followed, then a thundering noise from inside the monster’s body. As a cascade of smoke emitted from Fukumono’s mouth, he finally fell down dead into the water. After the inevitable splash, the people watching started to happily shout, applaud and cheer at C.A.T’s success.

July 12th, 2044

C.A.T HQ, Stefansborg

At C.A.T’s headquarters, everyone was being cheery and happy. Although the team rarely took itself seriously in truth, they didn’t often have a chance to actually throw a part. Alcohol was prohibited while on-duty, but Emelie scraped in the reserve team for a few extra days. The reserve team usually handled the little free time the main team could be granted, and even then it was rarely more than two replaced members. This time, Captain Emelie pushed them in for an entire week, and arranged for a nice welcoming party for Taiki.
This is an Earth feast? Pole asked Peter inside his head, as Peter sat with a beer in the corner.
Sort of. It’s just a party to welcome Taiki to the team.
Oh, I figured it was a tradition.
Nope. If you want to see a nice tradition, wait until… he didn’t get further than that before Tanja gripped his arm.
“Come on, you lazy head”, she smiled, a bit drunkenly. “Let’s dance!”
“I, uh, I don’t dance”, he attempted, but she just pulled him up.
“You do now!” she said and dragged him onto the dance floor.
In another corner, Taiki sat with Johan and Emelie, who was clearly very intoxicated.
“But you’re Japanese”, Johan said. “How come you were on the Chinese team?”
“There’s a high demand for Japanese monster fighters”, Taiki smiled. “Since we’re the country most used to it.” Johan nodded when Taiki explained it.
“So why’d you move here?” he asked again.
“There really isn’t much action going on in China”, Taiki said. “I heard about some very frequent incidents here, like Flamosaurus, Skodd, Greenmons, Kraken and Keela. I figured I should be where I’m needed, eh?” Johan nodded.
“Well, you were a real help with Fukumons”, he said.
“Speaking of which, those weapons weren’t in my files…”
“We bought ‘em with the new moneys”, Emelie giggled. “Same way we bought you!” and she burst into a hilarious laugh.
“Ignore her”, a passing Casper said, “she’s drunk. Speaking of which, that raise we were talking about, Cap?”
“Sure, sure, whatever”, she said before walking off to the bar… again.
As Peter, not having touched any alcohol, looked out the window, he saw something outside. It was an Ultra Sign!
“Sorry, Tanja”, he excused himself, “I really need to go to the bathroom.”
“Aww, how boooooring!” she complained. “Casper, let’s dance!”

Outside C.A.T HQ

Peter rushed out in the night. The message had, according to Pole, said “meet me outside”, so he didn’t need to go far.
He soon saw someone looking at him. It was an attractive, black-haired woman in her mid-30s dressed in a black trench coat and matching clothing under, including gloves and boots. She also wore sunglasses, even in the dark. He stopped looking at her. Was she the one giving the message?
She approached him slowly. When she finally reached him, she stopped, staring him in the face with a face devoid of emotion. She reminded an awful lot of Bogara.
“Who… are you?” he asked.
“My name is… Morgan”, she replied. Another moment of silence followed, before she added “You are the host of Ultraman Pole.”
“Y-you know!?” he said, shocked.
“You reacted to the message. It is obvious.”
“What do you want?” he asked, a bit nervous. She didn’t reply. He was going to ask it again when she suddenly pushed him in the chest with an open palm. The move somehow sent him flying several feet before landing in a bush.
“Hey, are you insane!?” he yelled as he got up. She just kept her hand out, even acting oblivious to the fact that Peter now pointing his gun at her.
“If you make use of that firearm”, Morgan said, “I shall incinerate you.”
“With what?” he muttered. As a reply, she emitted a purple lightning bolt from her open palm, impacting the ground in front of him. He took a quick step back, but didn’t fire.
“What are you!?” he yelled.
“Interested”, Morgan mumbled. “And I’m not the only one.” As she took a step forward, she added “Now defend yourself.” Peter got time to emit a confused “what” before she moved, at lightning-fast speed, up to him and delivered a punch to his jaw. Peter was sent flying again, but rolled to his feet, protected by Pole’s powers from any serious harm.
Those moves… Pole said, this woman must be an Ultran!
“Are you Ultran?” Peter asked. He’d taken away his gun and stood now in a hand-to-hand combat pose, even though he was unable to employ Pole’s powers as efficiently as Morgan fought.
“Hah hah hah”, Morgan smiled, “I am not. You know me as Necrona Seijin.” As she said this, Peter gasped.
“It’s YOU?”
“Indeed. I came to this planet originally to feed, but you fascinate me, or more rather your guest.”
“What?” Peter mumbled.
“This heroism”, Morgan said. “ don’t comprehend it. What do you have to gain from saving this little meaningless planet?”
Fulfillment”, Pole’s voice came. In Peter’s head, he spoke as well. Transform. I wish to talk to this woman. Peter nodded and transformed. In his place now stood a human-sized Ultraman Pole.
Necrona”, Pole said, “I’m more interested in your disregard for others’ business.
“I don’t SEE why”, Morgan said, now attaining her familiar multi-voice while shifting into her true, entirely black form. “ It is AS you say not MY business.”
That doesn’t mean you can mess it up! You’re more of a problem than you seem to think. Earth is clearly not your kind of planet.
“How RUDE of YOU”, Morgan said. “Are YOU telling me TO leave after just one DATE?”
For God’s sake, speak so I can hear you!” Pole moaned.
“Very well”, the woman said, shifting into Morgan’s voice again. “But your heroism amuses me. I think I shall watch it in action for the night.”
What?” Pole asked. Morgan smiled, and suddenly a bizarre-looking monster emerged amongst the buildings nearby. It was hard to see in the dark, but it was almost completely shaped like a human male.
“Corpus”, Morgan said as she faded into thin air, “battle Ultraman. If he does not wish to fight, kill humans until he does.”
The monster made a sound that was as if a human breathed heavily, and looked around. Corpus, seeing no Ultraman, turned upon a nearby building and slammed his fist down on it. The building’s roof immediately broke down, but Pole reacted and grew to giant size, challenging the monster.
Corpus saw him, and breathed heavily before charging. Pole slammed him aside, but noted several small objects fall off where the blow connected. Looking closely, he saw that they were humans. Corpus was made out of dead humans!
Corpus rose and held his hands out. From them, a hailstorm of human bone parts flew upon Pole, who was taken aback mostly out of surprise.
NECRONAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!” he shouted in rage and punched the disgusting creature’s chest, causing yet another rain of corpses to fall. Still, Corpus stood unharmed. It didn’t matter wherever Pole hit, Corpus didn’t have any bones to break, and didn’t need muscles to attack. Pole, mostly out of rage, threw a Polium Blade at the creature, decapitating it. Corpus’ body stumbled for a while before falling. Pole was surprised, but saw a purple sphere amongst the corpses that had made the head.
Immediately after, Necrona Seijin appeared in giant form. Flashing her eyes purple, the sphere flew up and entered her chest. As this happened, the corpses faded away.
“Good WORK Ultraman I AM very pleased.” Pole charged her, furious at her treatment of the dead, but Necrona waved and faded into thin air once again. Pole, alone, decided to transform back to Peter.
Let’s go back to the party, Peter said. There’s nothing we can do to trace her.
That’s true, Pole muttered, and they went in again.

EPISODE XV: DARK ULTRAMAN POLE

July 18th, 2044

C.A.T HQ, Stefansborg

“Where’s Peter today?” Tanja asked the team.
“He’s too ill, apparently”, Johan answered. “He better be here tomorrow, though, he’s going to join me investigating some oddities in Kiruna. I don’t want that trip alone.”

Emelie frowned. A second ago, she heard someone knocking at the door. Firstly, civilians didn’t even have access to the grounds around the building. Secondly, if they had clearance to enter, she’d have known about it. She looked at a screen showing the surveillance camera over that entrance. It was a black-clothed woman.
Emelie pushed a button opening the door. The woman nodded politely.
“Good day, C.A.T Captain”, she said. “I would like to inform you about a monster sighting.”
“Why didn’t you use the phone?” Emelie muttered. Her hand was ready to grip her gun.
“I wouldn’t be taken seriously”, the woman smiled. “I want to report a FUTURE monster sighting.”
“What?”
“There will be a monster emerging in Helge Valley. You’d best be there before it gets into Stefansborg.” And with a friendly salute, she just walked out of sight. Emelie stood dumbfounded for a moment.
“Delusional”, she concluded and closed the door.

Peter’s Home

Peter was very, very dizzy. Talking to Pole could be straining, and he’d been affected by Pole’s raging emotions lately as well. Currently, he was laying back-down on the bed staring at the ceiling, hoping it would stop spinning sometime soon.
Way to mess up my paycheck, pal, he told Pole.
I SAID I’m sorry! I didn’t realize disturbing the dead was less sensational than you spending another day at work!
You quit whining. At home, I can’t help you find Morgan or Necrona or whatever she wishes to be called.
Sorry, then. I’ve been feeling a little bad ever since I met her.
Do you have to take it out on me?
If I could change that, I would.

Helge Valley

Morgan stood smiling as she gazed upon the landscape. Around her were corpses… but they stood up. A human way of describing it would be “zombies”. She smiled. The word fit, somehow. She looked at one, smiling, before kissing its forehead gently.
“You look much better this way, darlings”, she whispered.
Her eyes flashed purple, so brightly it was visible under her near-opaque sunglasses. Immediately, as if ordered, the zombies began moving to the bottom of the valley. After reaching their goal, they began piling up on each other. Morgan smiled. Corpus’s duty was fulfilled, but Ultraman still held some amusement for her. As the pile grew, it began taking a strange form. It became a new zombie giant, but this one was shaped exactly like the dead Bemular! It roared, sort of a mix between Corpus’ and Bemular’s sounds, and began walking mindlessly around.
“Zombular”, Morgan smiled. “C.A.T will be here soon… you WILL fight them UNTIL Pole arrives.”

Peter’s Home

Peter! Pole said sharply. We have to transform! I feel an odd presence… like Corpus!
All right, Peter said. He stood up, though very dizzily, and performed the ritual. Within seconds, Ultraman Pole stood in his place, but immediately shifted into a field of shimmering dust, which flew out through the open window and away to Helge Valley. On the way, this dust formed the giant form of Ultraman Pole.

Helge Valley

“C.A.T unit, scatter!” came Casper’s typical entry. “Target the head. Use missiles.” The response was immediate. The entire C.A.T team circled around Zombular’s head and fired the special missiles. The monster was too slow to avoid the blast, and its head was engulfed in a violent explosion. The body stumbled around before falling down lifeless.
“Wow”, Taiki exclaimed, “That was fast.”
“Yeah”, Johan agreed. “I thought it’d be much more… what?”
The team gasped as the body of Zombular rose again. The corpses that had made up his head floated back in position; he regenerated completely! As the shocked team was too surprised to react, Zombular fired Bemular’s heat beam from his mouth, hitting Casper and sending his jet circling down to the ground.

Pole approached the area, ready to fight the monster, but something hit his side! He fell out of the air and crashed into the ground, but managed to get up to see who struck him. He then saw Necrona Seijin standing in front of him, holding out a hand after her energy blast.
It’s you! You’re behind the monster, aren’t you?
“Yes”, the twisted woman nodded. “But it IS just A way for ME to keep C.A.T AWAY from our fight.”
Decided to fight at last!” Pole roared.
Pole, what’s the matter? Peter asked in his head. You’re acting so… savage.
Shut up, Pole hissed back. This is it. I’m going to destroy that woman!
Pole charged Necrona thoughtlessly. She just sighed and stepped aside, causing Pole to crash into the mountainside. Pole rose, and fired his Polium Rain upon her. Necrona skillfully jumped out of the way, dodging the blasts, and fired another purple energy blast from her hand. The blast hit Pole head-on, sending him flying into the mountain wall once more.
“Fun, Ultraman you always STRUCK me AS the calm calculating TYPE”, Necrona said. “BUT you charge LIKE a beast, THOUGH way less WELLPLANNED.” She then laughed tauntingly, while Pole rose once more. In the next moment, Necrona was the one to charge, prompting Pole to do the same. The two giants met with extreme force, as Necrona launched a quick combination of strikes to Pole’s chest and head before tackling him down on the ground.
“So INCREDIBLY boring you are ULTRAMAN”, Necrona said as her opponent slowly rose. “I found YOU quite exciting EARLIER…”
She’s powerful… Pole thought, way more powerful than Bogara. Way too powerful for me…
Get your act together, Peter yelled inside Pole’s head. She’s only as powerful as you make her! You’re Ultraman, of course you can beat that woman!
Not her… Pole replied, and fell down on his knees. At the same time, something peculiar began to happen…
Necrona looked on in surprise as a black cloud engulfed Ultraman Pole. It was completely opaque, and even her magic eyes couldn’t see inside.
“SOME new attack, Ultraman?” she said, but the cloud was completely still. For an entire minute, nothing happened.
Suddenly, a rain of energy blasts flew out of the cloud, hitting Necrona and sending her toppling over. The beams reminded of the Polium Rain, but were darker...
Out stepped Ultraman Pole. However, it was not REALLY Ultraman Pole. He had changed. His blue color had been replaced by a purple one, and his silver areas were now blue, including his head. He didn’t know what was going on. He just knew that he felt… better.
“Ah how CUTE you’re going FOR a NEW style!” Necrona said as she rose, and held her right arm out. A crescent-shaped blade appeared on her wrist, and she took it off with her other hand and threw it at her foe. Pole ducked, but the blade turned around in the air and moved towards him again. Noticing this somehow, he turned around and slammed his hand down on the boomerang, shattering it. Necrona gasped in surprise, and was unprepared when Pole suddenly rushed at her, giving her a hard tackle to the chest, a kick to the side and a punch to the face.
The alien woman dizzily stumbled back. A small crack had appeared in her masklike face.
“You HURT me, you MEANIE!” she screamed, and charged him. The two exchanged several blows, but Necrona failed to do any damage to her foe. Pole countered all of her attacks and delivered a series of strikes that sent her down on the ground again. He jumped down on her and slammed his fists down repeatedly on her face. As the woman screamed in terror, her metallic face continued to crack up, and some purple liquid leaked out. Finally, she fired an energy blast from her hand into his face, distracting Pole long enough for Necrona to push him off and get up, though unsteadily.
“I surrender!” she said with her human voice, calmingly… persuasively. “I surrender, you win!”
I don’t care”, Pole muttered. He crossed his arms to fire the finishing beam and then fired, but Necrona teleported away in the last second. Pole did not notice this, and as he fired his X-shaped beam, it was different. It was thicker, bigger and more intense than usual, and it was dark purple. It hit the landscape where Necrona had stood, causing a tremendous explosion dwarfing Pole by far.
P-pole... what’s happened to you? Peter asked.
Forget about me, Pole said. Necrona escaped…

“Look!” Johan said. “The monster’s… dying…”
And true it was. Without his controller present, Zombular’s components fell apart lifelessly. The team, confused, went down to investigate the occurrence, but the corpses were just that… dead, and nothing else.
