I've never really had any. The closest person who I might describe as a "hero" to me would be my mother.

I don't see why Batman couldn't count, Kex. I'm sure there are a lot of people, in all seriousness, that think of Batman as their hero.

George Lucas, Christopher Reeve, My Dad, My Uncle Art, William Shatner. Mostly entertainers and family. Kind of strange really.

Like me, for example. The man is a master of making good of his situation, and is a symbol of self-achievement.

Plus, he has said the most awesome quote in the world.

"Are you dense? Are you ********* or something? Who the **** do you think I am? I'm the goddamn Batman!"

Ptftftf. honestly I just see Batman as a billionaire with to much money, so he buys all the latest gadgets.

My hero would easily be my father, grandfather, or my great uncle. My father because he has never given up on me, and always making me do my best. My grandfather and great uncle because they fought in WW2, while my great uncle fought in both WWs. but never saw the end of WW2.

I can certainly understand the reverence you must feel towards these men. As a veteran(of the U.S. Navy) I've always had the utmost respect for those men(and women) who served in WWI and WWII. My father served in the U.S. Navy for the last two years of WW2.

My relationship with my father, unlike my mother, was often, and sadly, estranged. This in no way has ever diminished my respect for the man, his life, his accomplishments and the things he tried to teach me as I grew up. He was often gone on business much of the time as I grew up and I didn't see him as much but I knew he was out there, working his tail off to provide for his family.

I'm glad you feel as you do for the men of your family you have mentioned. thumbs up

That Batman quote was from Frank Miller's All Star Batman and Robin, The Boy Wonder series from DC Comics. Frankly, I despise Miller's version of Batman, especially in that series. He comes off as a psychotic jerk who is downright abusive. I stopped reading that series by issue #4. I'll stick with Grant Morrison's Batman.

I find it rather amusing to see him differently. The series is a great work.

Most comics with Batman are really good. Except early Justice League adventures. I never liked them.

Deadpool > Everything, ever.

I beg to differ sir. Some scenarios I see far more likely:

Godzilla > Deadpool

The Hulk > Deadpool

Juggernaut > Deadpool

The Thing(Ben Grimm) > Deadpool

Chuck Norris > Deadpool

Godzilla I can't speak for.

Deadpool has already beaten the Hulk (I think it was in Deadpool # 3 or 4).

Deadpool has already beaten the Juggernaut.

Deadpool ran like a sissy girl from the Thing.

Chuck Norris is a human who isn't even cool.

Brenden Foster. Until recently I'm sure few people recognized this name and even fewer knew anything about this eleven year old boy, who died last week(on Friday) from leukemia. When doctors informed this young man and his mother that he had about two weeks to live, Brenden Foster didn't feel any self pity, never asked himself "Why me?" and never allowed the news of his impeding death to cast a pall on his outlook on life. This young man made his last wish known: he wanted to feed the homeless and hungry in his area. To that end, and with the help of his mother and others inspired by this boy's bravery in the face of death, Brenden Foster turned his wish into action. I think a lot of people, me included, could learn a lot from the example of this brave young man.

This boy was taken too soon. sadlyicon

As great as my fondness is for comic book superheroes I also believe there are a lot of people in this world of ours who are heroes in their own right, and without any costumes or superpowers to speak of. These are people of sincerity, unselfishness, honesty and a simple belief that doing for others is more important than doing for themselves.

I'm going to post articles about these kinds of people. I hope other members of Monsterland Forums will do the same. Feel free to reply to these articles if you like.

Topic starter - meet a full time bus driver, Jorge Munoz, who spends more than half his weekly paycheck, and every week, to help feed those who are hungry or aren't able to regularly feed themselves: http://www.cnn.com/2009/LIVING/03/19/cnnheroes.jorge.munoz/index.html

In Bangkok, Thailand, a Thai firefighter resorted to an unusual tactic to coax an eight year old autistic boy, frightened because it was his first day at the school, into crawling away from the edge of a third story ledge in the school building. The firefighter, Somchai Yoosabai, retrieved a Spiderman costume he had from his station(and kept for school fire drills), donned the costume and was able to get the boy, who apparently loves superheroes, away from the ledge and carried the child back inside the special needs school. In North Platte, Nebraska a quick thinking six year old boy named Tustin Mains, in the back seat of his father's truck and, seeing that his father had passed out(from low blood sugar), jumped into his unconscious father's lap, grabbed the steering wheel and kept the moving vehicle, going about 15 MPH in a suburban neighborhood, from crashing into other motorists. A local police officer spied the young boy at the wheel of the car and managed to intervene and successfully put the car into park: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/30877657/?GT1=43001

Kudos to both the young boy and the police officer. thumbz up

Near Granville, Iowa a 25 year old named Jamie Carrion, driving a pickup truck loaded with her young son and daughter and some family possessions, hit an icy patch, the truck leaving the road and turning over. While Jamie Carrion struggled to find her cell phone in the overturned truck and tend to her two year old son, four year old Averie Carrion had already managed to get out of the overturned truck and started walking in 21 degree weather with ice and and snow nearly two feet deep in places. Four year old Averie managed to trudge a quarter of a mile to a farmhouse and tell the occupants her mother was in an accident and in trouble. The couple living in the farmhouse raced to the scene of the accident and assisted paramedics who arrived a short time later. Jamie Carrion, her four year old daughter Averie and her two year old son suffered, thankfully, only cuts and bruises.

Pretty impressive stuff for a four year old girl. thumbz up

A nine year old boy and cable TV technician are being credited with saving the life of a baby after the (adult) female babysitter holding the infant was attacked by her son's pit bull. The cable TV technician physically held the dog down while the nine year old boy dialed 911. Police quickly arrived on the scene and were forced to kill the pit bull, shooting the animal. The baby was taken to a nearby hospital with serious bite wounds but is, thankfully expected to make a full recovery. Shame they had to kill the dog, but I'm sure they didn't have a choice. The story could have turned out so much worse than it did. So it's good to hear a positive survival like this.

They say disasters bring out the best in people. I agree and not just adults. A six year old Atlanta(GA) girl, troubled by the TV footage of the Japan earthquake disaster she saw, decided she wanted to help victims of the horrific earthquake and tsunami in Japan. The girl began selling artwork she made and has generated over $300 thus far in funds that will ultimately be donated to the American Red Cross Japan earthquake relief fund.
