Which do you think is the best King Kong film? Cast your vote and explain your answer. All replies welcome. bravo clap

My vote: I voted for the 2005, Peter Jackson-directed film. It is a marvelous work, with the best CGI I have ever seen. Aside from the ending there is absolutely nothing else I can think of that I do not like about this film. thumbs up

Unlike you Packmule, I wasn't very impressed when I saw the new Kong film at the cinema, maybe it's just one of those films (like Final Wars) which I have to watch a few times in order for me to like it. I stick with the 1933 version for the moment.

The 1933 King Kong film is stellar. No doubt about that. thumbs up

The American version of King Kong vs. Godzilla for me.
It is the only King Kong film I have seen besides the 2005 film (for which I really didn't care for all that much...)

I can honestly say I enjoy each of these films, which is often not the case with a poll like this! I did, however, choose, King Kong vs Godzilla the Americanized evrsion, just because for so many years, it was a comfort film of sorts for me. As for the other entries....

King Kong ('33)-Really enjoy this film, it was obviously, the first Kong film I ever saw and for that reason alone, it holds a special place in my viewing enjoyment.

King Kong ('76)-I saw this film in the theatre, thanks to my Dad and it has some enjoyable moments and the fond memories of seeing this with my Dad keep it special.

King Kong ('05)-I thought this was an excellent film, but I hate to say it, Jack Black annoyed me to the point I wish he'd been squashed at some point. I must admit, the CGI effects were fantastic and the scenes of the group running with the dinos was absolutely breathtaking.

King Kong Escapes-Simply one of those films that is fun from beginning to end and it's easy to sit and watch this over and over, again.

King Kong vs Godzilla-The uncut Japanese version could probably join my choice, the Americanized version, just a lot of fun for me and I really can't say why, other than it's easy on the eyes.

Son of Kong-Oh yes, I do enjoy this hastily made sequel to the original '33 film....I hear plenty of people less-than-pleased with the effort, but I think it's lots of fun......'Baby' Kong is definitely child-like in actions and his innocence adds a lot of charm to this film.

Me as well. I am no fan of Jack Black, though obviously someone is, as he continues to appear in films. I wonder why he was cast as Carl Denham in the 2005 King Kong film. Black comes across to me as nothing more than a chubby, beady-eyed blowhard. His acting skills are, IMO, mediocre at best. eyebrow

Packmule, I believe you forgot to add "King Kong Lives" to your poll. (It's the sequel to the 1976 Kong. There are also some similar films like "Konga" or "Mighty Joe Young" (both versions).

You are correct sir. I have amended the poll list accordingly. King Kong Lives(1986) should be included on the poll list. As for the others you mentioned, they are similar titles, and if they were a voting member's choice for favorite they could vote for "other" and specify, mentioning these films about giant apes, or even other films like A*P*E(1976), a Korean film and King Kong ripoff, or the much better Shaw Bros.(Kong Kong) film The Mighty Peking Man(1977), this film featuring a giant ape-like creature. Thanks for the heads up Johnny. thumbs up

I honestly didn't feel Denham's character was that annoying in the original film, but Black's characterization made him extremely annoying andactually took a little of the enjoyment away for me. I still thought Jackson did an outstanding job, but feel a better choice could have been made for the role of Denham.

If Konga has been added to the mix, that is another huge favorite of mine! I don't know what it is, but British sci-fi/horror films just appeal to me, no matter how outrageous the concept of the film or how poor most people feel the end-product is. I love 'em! Mr Green

As do I. I understand that Peter Jackson worked himself very hard during the filming of King Kong, which he also did with the Lords Of The Ring films. At the end of filming for the 2005 Kong film Jackson was utterly exhausted from working 18-20 hour days, frequently seven days a week. It is, I believe, the grueling hours he put in during his directorial work on the Kong film that prompted him to decide to take a year off. eyebrow

My apologies for the omission of Konga(1961) from the poll list. Though I would not have voted for it in the poll it should have been in the list-it is a fun feature I enjoy watching periodically, to see Michael Gough get his comeuppance(literally) at the hand's of Konga. nod

Are you British by any chance?
By the way, have you seen Gorgo?
That's a good British Sci-fi movie. :D

I voted for the original '33 KING KONG. It's amazing how spectacular those effects are considering it was made in '32 or '33. Not to mention the actors. All of whom put in marvelous performances.

GORGO is a favorite among kaiju fans. I was first exposed to it back when I was a little kid and loved it ever since.

GORGO is a favorite among kaiju fans. I was first exposed to it back when I was a little kid and loved it ever since.

And it was recently upgraded by way of an updated DVD release, with a new print, some new extras, and a very nice 5.1 audio remix. I ordered this classic monster movie online, direct from VCI Entertainment, Dan. The link: VCI Entertainment

The DVD was about $9.99 plus shipping. VCI also mailed me a nice catalog with a surprisingly good collection of classic older titles from various film genres. You can request a catalog of their DVD titles by phone or by email(from their website) thumbs up

I've got the previous version of the DVD and let me tell you it's a very dark copy. During mama Gorgo's (Ogra) rampaged the picture is so dark you can't even see her in many shots. Still, $9.99 is a great price for the newer edition. Eventually I'll upgrade but I'm in no hurry.
