For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

In 1972, Takeshi Kimura, who had been working under the name Kaoru Mabuchi since 1966, decided to retire from screenwriting due to personal issues. He left behind a story at Toho that later was split into two films. Godzilla vs. Gigan and Godzilla vs. Megalon.

There were two versions of this story he wrote. One involved Godzilla, Rodan and Varan in a battle between Ghidorah, Gigan and a new dragonlike creature named Mogu. Gigan was given an extremely bizarre additional power, the ability to launch a spiked ball from his right hand.

The other had Godzilla, a new kaiju god named Majin Tuol and Anguirus battling Megalon, King Ghidorah and Gigan. It also included the Godzilla Tower, a concept later carried into GvsGigan.

So how did these two become what we know today? The answer lies with one man, Shinichi Sekizawa. Shinichi Sekizawa decided to work on the second story but drop Majin Tuol and Megalon. This became Godzilla vs. Gigan. Alien Miko the villain in both stories, was dropped.

For Godzilla vs. Megalon, the leftover creation Megalon was selected by Sekizawa to be the villain starring a new superhero Toho had created. But this time it wasn't for TV, it was for a movie! This was Jet Jaguar, and Jun Fukuda suggested adding Godzilla since he knew Jet Jaguar wouldn't sell alone. He also brought in Gigan.
