MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

About a week or three ago, my brother asked me to watch this little film "Hellraiser" with him on our almost daily movie nights. I knew he had seen the film, but he let me know before that he has only seen the first half of the film right before the Cenobites show up. What I saw was nothing less of one of the most original and psychologicaly disturbing horror films I have seen in some time (not beating Prince of Darkness). It was just a cool film with a cool premise. I would easily give it a 9.5/10. And then I found out in the two weeks to come that the first two sequels would come on.

The first sequel was "Hellbound: Hellraiser II". It may take some people time to warm up to the ideas the film brings up - particularly the whole "Leviathan" thing (which once you watch the film enough you start to think of it in an McEcher-like thing). It tries to bring up new concepts like multiple boxes and Kirsten getting back her father but neither are explored. It is all about getting back at the doctor who is treating Kirsten, using this one chick who looks like Brad Pitt named Tiffany, and sacrificed one of his patients to bring back Julia - a character form the first film. It has alot of nice imagery and nice to see a unique new Cenobite but some aspects of the film - including Pinhead, Butterball, the Chatterer, and the Female Cenobite being human once is not exactly my cup of tea - kind of kills the supernatural element. Though it makes you wonder how the box came into existance along with the other dimension and stuff. But of course, in the fourth film, it's pretty much a rip off of the Puppet Master franchise claiming a toy maker made it. A 7/10 this film gets.

The third sequel "Hellraiser 3: Hell On Earth" is maybe the worst of the ones I have seen thus far (and of course the director being related to the director of CHILDREN OF THE CORN 3 hints at that). Evidently, (spoiler up ahead), the thing that came out of the bed in Part 2's ending has turned from a torture box filled with the cenobites to being a giant turning stone erection which just holds Pinhead. Someone buys the thing and gets out of the box - the Lament Configuration. He dies of massive head trauma and a bunch of hooks in his skin. So, a reporter tries to uncover everything. It obvious that the film is cheap - especialy with the Vietnam scenes which the trees look very American. But, it did give us like NOES3 (which was good) a theme song for the series, with boh Motorhead and Ozzy Osbourne collaborating on the song HELLRAISER, with Lemmy getting the honors of music video performance while Ozzy released his recording on one of his albums.

So what do you forumers think of the series? I thought that the first two worked good and the third was rather lackluster except for Doug Bradley who was great and really had one hell of a job to do. Really, nice to see what really started the torture porn horror film which films like SAW and HOSTEL and even to an extent PASSION OF THE CHRIST spawned from. Just a really, really cool film series as long as you lower your expectations with each passing film.

very funny

Uh, question: how are you able to distinguish between trees indigenous to the United States and those used in a movie in which you see them only for brief moments and as images on your TV screen? I doubt even a botanist or an arborist could be this discerning.

I like the first two "Hellraiser" films. I thought the second one played off nicely from the first. I have seen Hellraiser 3-Hell On Earth and while I thought it wasn't as good as the first two it was still solid.

The foliage looks very, very different than what you would see in one of Stone's Vietnam films, a Rambo film, ect. Just looked too different.

No. I guess that the HBO/STarz Channels showing the first 3 films times for each one being shown within 2 weeks of eachother was just a fluke. IDK if I totaly want to see the rest though. I have come up with an idea for a hellraiser film and well, the more films I see the more the mythos is built on and it is quite limiting.

Hellraiser Bloodline(1996) is decent. I believe you'd like it though not as much as the first two installments. One "Hellraiser" film I can predict you'd dislike: Hellraiser Deader, which I thought was piss poor.

What is your opinion on "Inferno"? I hear it get alot of hate but for the lack of time Pinhead is in it, it seems to be smart. Especialy with the end.
