For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

I was deeply saddened today to see the news that long time actor(and director) Leonard Nimoy has died. He was 83.

https://tv.yahoo.com/blogs/tv-news/leonard-nimoy-dies-at-83-171803235.html

He had been admitted to a hospital recently complaining of chest pains and had been diagnosed years ago with heart issues.

Leonard Nimoy, who acted in both movies and on television, will forever be known to both casual and die hard sci-fi fans as half human/half Vulcan alien "Spock", the executive officer and science officer of the USS Enterprise on the NBC TV series Star Trek, which originally aired from 1966 through 1969. Nimoy also appeared in episodes of Mission Impossible and also served as narrator for the 70's documentary oriented TV series "In Search Of".

The original Star Trek TV series spawned six(6) full length feature films and Leonard Nimoy reprised his role of "Spock" for all of them: Star Trek-The Motion Picture(1979), Star Trek II-The Wrath Of Khan(1982), Star Trek III-The Search For Spock(1984), Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home(1986), Star Trek V-The Final Frontier(1989) and Star Trek VI-The Undiscovered Country(1991). He also appeared in two episodes of the TV series Star Trek-The Next Generation(1987-1994) as well as the ST "reboot" film directed by J.J. Abrams called Star Trek(2008).

The acting industry and the world of sci-fi in general has lost a true icon today. For me personally, the original Star Trek TV series was the first to actively engage me and make me a lifelong "Trekkie" because of the work of Leonard Nimoy and his portrayal of "Spock". I have been a lifelong fan of the Star Trek film franchise and an even greater fan of Leonard Nimoy the actor. Growing up as a kid watching "Star Trek" on television, I feel like I've lost a friend today after seeing the news of Leonard Nimoy's death.

He will be greatly missed. sadlyicon

I completely agree with your post, Lee. From what I've hear about Nimoy he seems to have been an absolute great man an he was certainly a wonderful actor! He portrayal of Mr. Spock was perfect. He was a man of many talents and he will be missed.

Ugh. It's with great sadness I must inform to the board that Wes Craven, directors of The Last House on the Left, The Hills Have Eyes, Nightmare of Elm Street, the Scream Series, Red Eye and more, has passed away at the age of 76 from brain cancer.
(Seriously, screw cancer)
