It was posted this morning at Comcast.net that legendary operatic singer Luciano Pavarotti has died. He was 71. Pavarotti, diagnosed with pancreatic cancer about a year ago, succumbed to the disease at his home in his native Italy. Luciano Pavarotti is considered one of the all-time great opera singers and arguably the best tenor ever. I am admittedly not a great fan of opera but I heard Luciano Pavarotti sing on a few occasions. His voice was absolutely awesome. If there's a heaven you can bet this man is singing for God now. I was very sad to read this a day or so, ago. I always found the character of 'Miss Moneypenny' to be a lof of fun. Miss Maxwell also voiced the character of, Atlanta Shores in one of my favorite 'Supermarionation' series, Stingray.

It was posted today at Yahoo that Max McGhee, a former wide receiver with the Green Bay Packers, has died. He was 75. McGhee fell off the roof of his Minnesota home while blowing leaves-efforts to resuscitate him were not successful. Max McGhee played wide receiver on the legendary Green Bay Packers teams of the late 1960's coached by Vince Lombardi. McGhee was the star of Super Bowl I, in which Green Bay defeated Kansas City 35-10 in early 1967. For more info click the link: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=ap-o...ov=ap&type=lgns

It was posted at Yahoo.com this AM that former San Francisco 49ers head coach Dick Nolan has died. He was 75. Nolan, the father of current SF 49ers head coach Mike Nolan, had been stricken with prostate cancer and Alzheimer's disease in recent years. Dick Nolan was an outstanding player in the NFL for nine seasons before retiring and then joining, in 1962, longtime friend Tom Landry on the Dallas Cowboys coaching staff. Later Dick Nolan took the coaching reins in San Francisco in the late 1960's and by 1970 had helped this team make the playoffs, something it would do again twice. Nolan also coached the New Orleans Saints from 1978-1980. For more on the life and career of this man click the link: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=AqvT...ov=ap&type=lgns

Iconic motorcycle stuntman Evel Knievel, who made a career performing death defying motorcycle jumps, has died. He was 69. It was posted at CHFB(Classic Horror Film Board) that John Rocco Roberto has passed away. I never met this man and admittedly do not know much about him. I do know that he founded Kaijufan magazine(long out of circulation) and, along with J.D. Lees, was instrumental in the facilitation of early "Kaiju Cons"(which ultimately became "G-Fest"). G-Fest is an annual Godzilla/kaiju/tokkusatsu convention, usually held in Los Angeles or Chicago, which features special guests, a dealers room, films, forums and other activities.

I'm going to pin this topic thread, for a while anyway. Click the link to see SciFi Japan's tribute to Mr. John Rocco Roberto, who played an integral part in formation and operations of some of the earliest Godzilla conventions, and collaborated on a magazine called Ultrafan, which was renamed Kaijufan(now out of circulation). I think you'll find this man's longtime promotion of Godzilla and all things kaiju remarkable: http://www.scifijapan.com/articles/2008/01...erto-1962-2007/

He certainly did. I have many issues of Ultrafan, which was renamed Kaijufan, this magazine the result of the late Mr. Roberto and some collaborators. It was a very entertaining magazine. I was very disappointed when it went out of circulation. John Rocco Roberto's contributions are essentially immeasurable to Godzilla and kaiju fandom. I regret that I never had the chance to meet him. sadlyicon

New Zealander Sir Edmund Hillary, the first person to successfully climb Mount Everest, has died. He was 88. Hillary gained lasting fame when, on May 29, 1953, he and a Sherpa guide named Tenzing Norgay reached the summit of rugged Mount Everest, the tallest mountain on Earth, at just over 29,000 feet(approx 29,035 ft). Hillary later drove a tractor across Antarctica to further enhance his reputation as an adventurer. The article link: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22597658/?GT1=10755

Actress Suzanne Pleshette has died. She was 70. The actress, diagnosed with lung cancer in 2006, died at her home of respiratory failure. The actress was most famous for her television role on The Bob Newhart Show, in which she played the wife of the psychiatrist(NewHart). She also starred in many films, including the Alfred Hitchcock thriller The Birds(1963). The article link: http://movies.msn.com/movies/article.aspx?...293625&GT1=7701

I loved Suzanne Pleshette's performance in The Birds(1963) and also thought she was terrific on TV alongside Bob Newhart. Such a classy, beautiful woman.

Actor Heath Ledger has died. He was 28. Ledger was found naked and unconscious earlier today in a Manhattan apartment owned by actress Mary-Kate Olsen. Pills were scattered near Ledger's body, which has authorities believing the young actor's death may be a drug overdose. An official cause of death has not yet been determined.
Heath Ledger's breakout film was considered by many to be Brokeback Mountain(2003). Ledger also appeared in many other films, and most recently portrayed "The Joker" in the upcoming "Batman" film The Dark Knight(2008), set to open in theaters this summer. My thoughts go out to the well being of this young man's family in this time of tragedy. I havent seen too many films featuring this actor, but I noticed right off the bat that we were the same age. It saddens me greatly to think of him, myself, or anyone else dying at an age like this when there is yet so much more for us to do. Whatever the cause may be, I hope he now rests in peace.

Long time actor Roy Scheider has died. He was 75. There was no cause of death released but the actor had been battling multiple myeloma for the past two years. Though Roy Scheider's list of film credits is lengthy he is probably best known for his portrayal of Amityville Police Chief Martin Brody in the 1975 blockbuster Jaws, a role he would also reprise three years later in Jaws 2(1978). Arthur C. Clarke, widely considered one of the greatest science fiction writers ever, has died. He was 90. Clarke, who authored over one hundred books and other written works gained lasting fame after writing a book in 1968 called 2001: A Space Odyssey(1968), which was made into a ground breaking film directed by Stanley Kubrick in the same year. Actor Richard Widmark has passed away. He was 93. The actor's first film was Kiss Of Death(1947), in which he played a smiling, laughing killer. His career would span another forty years. My personal favorites of this terrific actor were Madigan(1968), in which he plays a tough NYC detective, and The Bedford Incident(1965), in which Widmark played a no-nonsense U.S. Navy destroyer captain whose ship engages in a deadly game of cat and mouse with a Soviet submarine during the Cold War.

Actor Charlton Heston has died. He was 84. Heston died with his wife at his side at his California home. Details of his death have not been officially released. The story link: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080406/ap_on_en_mo/obit_heston

...this man was one of my favorite actors, with stellar performances in favorite films of mine like Soylent Green(1973), Planet Of The Apes(1968), The Naked Jungle(1953), Earthquake(1974), Touch Of Evil(1958) and Ben Hur(1959).

I suspect Turner Classic Movies will amend their programming schedule to put together a day long movie tribute of this man, and feature some of Heston's best films.

May this great actor Rest In Peace.
