Actor Dennis Hopper passed away today too. I read a few months ago that he was expected to pass on soon as he was very ill.

http://www.cnn.com/2010/SHOWBIZ/05/29/obit.dennis.hopper1/index.html?hpt=T2

Truly a sad this month since we've lost quite a few celebs including Ronnie James Dio and the Bassist for the heavy metal band Slipknot.

I saw recently that Dennis Hopper was fighting prostrate cancer. I'm glad he was surrounded by family and friends at the end. This man was a fantastic actor and will be greatly missed.

Long time actress Patricia Neal has passed away. She was 84. She succumbed to lung cancer at home, surrounded by her family.

The actress, whose career spanned over sixty years, won an Oscar for her portrayal as a housekeeper in 1963's Hud, which also starred Melvyn Douglas and Paul Newman. Sci fi fans will always remember her for her role in the 1951 classic science fiction film The Day The Earth Stood Still in which she befriends "Klaatu"(played by Michael Rennie), an interstellar visitor who has traveled to Earth with a dire warning for humanity.

For more on the life and career of this remarkable woman click the link: http://tv.msn.com/tv/article.aspx?news=534803&GT1=28103

One of the reasons I became interested in dramatic films was Patricia Neal's marvelous performance in Hud(1963).

She will be greatly missed.

Long time actress Ingrid Pitt, who attained cult icon status due to her roles in Hammer horror films, died Tuesday of this week in London(UK). She was 73.

I haven't seen all her movies but I enjoyed watching Ingrid Pitt in The Wicker Man(1973), The Vampire Lovers(1970) and Where Eagles Dare(1969). She will be greatly missed.

Yeah, this is sad. Forbidden Planet, which Nielsen stars in, is my #1 favorite sci-fi film. And Airplane and the Naked Gun movies are a definite high point for his career.

Very sad news. Leslie Nielsen was hilarious in Airplane!(1980) and "The Naked Gun" films. I also liked his performance as the no nonsense captain of the doomed "Poseidon" luxury liner in 1972's The Poseidon Adventure.

He will be greatly missed.

Ryo Ikebe dead at 92. I've only seen him in Gorath, Battle in Outer Space, and War in Space. Some good performances from him, although I don't believe I've ever seen him in a Godzilla film.

Long time actress Anne Francis has died. She was 80. She passed away January 2, 2011(Sunday) at her home with friends and family around her. The actress had been battling both lung and pancreatic cancer.

Anne Francis will probably be best remembered for her 1960's "Honey West" action TV series and also her role as "Altaira" in the groundbreaking 1956 sci-fi film Forbidden Planet.

The opening theme for the TV series "Honey West":

Not sure if this would concern anyone, but Guitarist/songwriter Gary Moore passed away just a couple days back. He used to play guitar for Thin Lizzy, and had a very extensive and successful Solo Career as well. A real shame, if you ask me. Nono

Long time TV and movie actor James Arness has died. He was 88. Arness' death is being attributed to natural causes.

When John Wayne declined a role in a new western TV series being developed by CBS he recommended James Arness for the role. The role Arness accepted was that of U.S. Marshal Matt Dillon and Arness would make the character an icon in the TV series "Gunsmoke", which aired on CBS from 1955-1975, an incredible run for a TV series of any kind. Arness, a tall, rangy and ruggedly handsome man, was the perfect fit for steady, deliberate and good hearted tough guy U.S. Marshal Matt Dillon.

James Arness also gained considerable notoriety among sci-fi film fans for starring in the 1954 sci-fi thriller Them!, a tale about mutant, giant ants enlarged by exposure to A-bomb radiation. Arness' character in this film was an FBI agent who worked with scientists and the local military to combat the marauding mutant ants.

James Arness also starred as the alien humanoid plant thing in the 1951, Howard Hawks sci-fi classic The Thing From Another World. Arness spoke no lines while portraying the hulking, hostile humanoid alien but he didn't have to to make his character memorable to sci-fi film fans: his tall, rugged and square shouldered physique, along with excellent makeup effects, added considerable menace to the character in this movie.

James Arness will be missed. http://www.accessatlanta.com/celebrities-tv/james-arness-of-gunsmoke-966380.html?cxntlid=thbz_hm

He certainly will be missed.

Topic: long time TV and movie actor Peter Falk has died. He was 83. Falk's most notable role was undoubtedly as police detective Lt. Columbo in the 70's TV series Columbo, Falk playing the rumpled, disheveled looking but brilliant police investigator.

I also liked Peter Falk's performance in the 1981 action comedy All The Marbles, Falk playing "Harry Sears", a hustling and wisecracking manager of a pair of beautiful women wrestlers.
