Understandable. I say that because my parents each had their own recliner in our family livingroom-my father actually had his and my mother had none, but after haranguing him about it he bought my mother her own recliner as well. Both would watch TV from their recliners every night. My father would usually fall asleep nightly, and begin to snore. My mother, annoyed, would wake him up by throwing a small pillow at him, which would conk him on the head. nod |

I watched nearly all of this game, the Denver Broncos Vs Cincinnati Bengals, won by Denver 24-23. I was shocked when the Bengals botched that last PAT(point after attempt). It goes to show that you can never assume anything, or take anything for granted, in the NFL. nod |

I just saw a stat last week.....in the 60s, this area of PA had a white Christmas 9 out of 10 years, in the 70s, I believe they said it was 8 out of 10 years. In the 80s, it dropped off to 6 out of 10, 90s it was 5 out of 10 and so far in the new century, 3 out of 10. Some years, we'll get snow as early as October and it will snow all season, this year, it's been just far too mild. |

 My Grandma and Granddad used to be the same way. They didn't have recliners, but they'd settle in a cahir and on the sofa in their TV room and it wouldn't be long before Granddad would be nodding off. Grandma would look over and see him and jack the vomume up to an alarming sound, Granddad would jerk awake and look over at Grandma with disgust, but by that time, she'd have the volume down and be looking all innocent! Carol and I call him, 'Skeet', Dad has always called him, 'Tiny Man' and Mom and most the rest of the family call him, Scott. My Dad's sister always refers to him as, Scottie! When Mom was pregnant for Skeet, I wanted to call the baby, Scott, if he was a boy and my brother, Michael, was, at 4, in love with a little girl named, Amy Sue, so had Skeet been a girl, he'd have been, Amy Sue. Mom wanted Stephen/Steven and suggested that as a first name with Scott and his middle, to me, but I really liked, Scott and Mom said when he was born, he looked like a Scott. ;) |

Very true, but they mentioned the placekicker hadn't missed an attempt in, I believe they said, 159 attempts? I swear, any time an announcer says something like that, suddenly a fumble is made or a PAT or field goal is missed! |

Definitely a pattern there, eh? eyebrow I read a few days ago that the gradual "warming" of the poles may threaten the existence of the polar bear. thumbs down I often wonder just how much global warming is damaging this great planet of ours. I read an internet article not too long ago that suggested it was possible that, at our current rate of consumption of fossil fuels and the various natural resources of the planet, that the Earth may be used up, so to speak, in as little as 50 years.

laughing smiley I have a lot of fond memories of the shenanigans that went on between family members, many of which were very funny. Having a great dane for a pet in our family growing up, "Max"(the dog's name) was a very large specimen: he stood over 6' on his hind legs and weighed, in his prime, over 145 lbs. He was a big, lovable dog, but often didn't know his own strength. This dog, nicknamed "Mixie" by my father, once pulled my father off his feet while on a leash, taking off after a small opossum near our backyard woodline. My father was dragged several yards before he managed to get to his feet and get the huge dog back under control. "Max" often would, in a playful mood, jump up on me or my father. We were usually ready for the dog to rest his front legs on our shoulders, but on at least one occasion we both weren't, and this giant dog knocked both of us to the ground.

Sure seems that way, doesn't it? crazy I hate to see a play like that decide the outcome of the game. I'm sure the guy who snapped the ball felt really awful about it, and there is the tendency to blame this lone player and his miscue for the loss. Cincinnati head coach Marvin Lewis showed a lot of class in declining to single out the player whose bad snap resulted in the Bengal's failed PAT after their potential game-tying touchdown, instead saying that his team lost the game based on many plays(or non-plays) during the course of the game, which I also happen to believe is absolutely true. faster <!--emo&shifty eyes--> <!--endemo-->

I'd LOVE to own a Great Dane! We had an Irish Wolfhound for a short time, she was, unfortunately killed, when she was less than a year and she was already, huge. She didn't know her strength or size and it was hilarious, because she often wanted to be a lap-dog! |

The funny thing is, Skeet's far from being a tiny man! He's big and strong, but from the time he was a wee lad, Dad has always called him that! Personally, I like nick-names, they make me feel kind of special, unless of course, they were mean-spirited! |

I also agree, usually a loss or a win isn't the result of a single play, but a combination of plays, be they good or bad, throughout a game. Football, baseball, basketball and hockey are 'team' sports....I feel it takes a combined effort by all participants to win or lose a game. |

Yes. It's also preventable, from what I have read. That prevention would be predicated on a serious reduction in the consumption of fossil fuels(e.g. oil, kerosene, coal, and gasoline) by the world populace, something that appears to have little chance of happening, at least in the immediate future. Reduction of global warming would also have to be partly based on the development of alternative fuel sources, e.g. solar energy, or alternative fuel sources for cars. Again this seems, at least too me, to have little chance of happening, at least in the near future. thumbs down |

It's been very mild up here in Michigan too. Today it was in the 50's and sunny. It felt like early Spring here. I've become a firm believer in global warming. When I was young we'd get snow by mid-November and always have a white Christmas. Over the last ten years or so it's been progressively warmer and less snowy. This year is no exception to the trend as we've got nothing but mild temps and rain. Really sucks since it worked against my Christmas spirit. |

Great danes make for wonderful family dogs. They have, by their nature, a very gentle disposition. "Max" was the greatest dog, from a companionship perspective, that I ever knew. When he had to be euthanized, in 1980, because of cancer, I was, like both my mother and father, distraught. :( Great danes, because of their size, need room ro run. We had a huge backyard behind our house, which was good for "Max". These dogs also consume a lot of dog food-we went through about 25 lbs of dry dog food a week. Great danes also leave behind, not surprisingly, large piles of crap, so a family owning one should have two things for this: 1) a good "pooper-scooper" for removal of the piles, and 2) a designated, and reliable person to remove them nod As you might expect, Kimi, I was the family's designated poop remover

Growing up we had a huge black man that did yard work at our house, before I was old enough to do it. The man's name was Alfred, though, as he told me and my parents, everyone called him Alfie. Believe me this nickname was definitely a paradox, when looking at "Alfred", who stood about 6'3" and weighed about 250 lbs, all muscle. :ph43r: |

Hehehehe Can't say I blame Alffie for prefering that to, Alfred. Some names just sometimes have an 'old' sound to them, you know? I question the common sense of many people, when it comes to naming their children. Can you imagine a 90-year old woman being called, Taffy or Fawn? It's like calling a 2-year old little girl, Mrytle or Mable.....I had two great-Grandmothers with those names and my gosh, it was as if, they were old before their time, with names like that! I can't see myself being 80 and called, 'Kimi', although, I prefer that to 'Kimberly', but still you really need to think when you name a child...will this name work ALL through their life?

According to the Farmer's Almanac, Kimi, mild winters are usually followed by mild summers. This almanac, though very old and very traditional, is often downplayed by meteorologists and other scientists in the weather industry.

When it comes to names and nomenclature the most bizarre thing I can recall is an elderly woman that I did yard work for when I was a teenager. She was a friend of my mother's friend, that kind of thing. Imagine my surprise when, during my first day of work at this old woman's house she comes out yelling "Dammit, come here!". Initially I thought she was referring to me-turns out she wasn't of course. The object of her repeated shouts: her house cat, who she told me she named God Damnit. She also informed me she called her cat "Damnit" for short. The cat did answer to this alleged name... eyebrow I also once did a hardscaping job(building a retaining wall) in 1997 for a very nice couple in their twenties who referred to their cat as "Shithead", or "Shitty" for short. crazy |

My bosses daughter, an 18 year college freshman, worked with me and my crew one day a couple of weeks ago, to make some extra $. She is really into horses, and wants to be either a horse vet after college or a horse trainer/caretaker. She told me that her PT job while in college requires cleaning out many horse stables on the campus of her college(an agricultural/tech facility), which entails the shovelling of massive amounts of horse dung out of these stables. Believe me, Kimi, horse "pies" dwarf their bovine(cow) counterparts. I once saw a pile of horse crap that was three feet across.
