Welcome to MONSTERLAND FORUMS! We are a casual and friendly online community of movie fans who like to talk about giant monsters, horror and sci-fi in cinema, on television and on Blu Ray/DVD. There are forums for sports, casual chat and video games as well. For those of you who like making art, writing stories and creating videos, our community includes a forum for these submissions as well. Check out our main index page and other board forums! Anyone is welcome to join our community!

MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

:<!--emo&lol:-->Posted Image<!--endemo--> I bet it would be rather unnerving! I have seen my Mom do this, on occasion and it does stop your heart for just an instant. My Dad isn't easily creeped out, but he said the sight of his wife was bad enough, but when he saw me as a tiny baby, he nearly freaked and then nearly fainted! Hahahaha

if they always have more DVDs you want than you can afford to buy, that is good. Those that have little or nothing you want to buy, that is bad. This may sound like something simplistic, even semi-assinine, Kimi, but I wonder sometimes if those that decide what major retailers stock for DVDs should actually just go back to a simple deduction like what I just mentioned.

Excellent observation, Lee and quite true! You know, I used to rip and roar and complain about the stores in our area, not carrying anything I was interested in, most of the time and Carol said what I like, most people wouldn't be itnerested in. I know what she said was true, but I also felt many retailers limit their inventory to the releases of today and only going back about 10-20 years for films. I wish they'd allow customers to fill out surveys of what we're interested in and what we'd like to see a store carry. I'd probably still be in the minority, but it might shake things up a wee bit.

My father made a remark like this once to a business associate/friend at our house. My mother's reaction: she thumped him hard on top of his head.

It honestly does and that makes shopping at a retail store so tough for me. There's still a ton of classic sci-fi/horror and other classic films in other genres that could be released, but companies drag their feet, it seems. Then, if they do release a title, Circuit City and Best Buy won't carry it! I went to Best Buy, three, in fact, when the three Amicus titles were released back in August from Dark Sky Films.....And Now the Screaming Starts, The Beast Must Die and Asylum and couldn't find one! I stopped and associate and asked if they might be in another section and I had to help spell the titles and then was asked, 'Are these old films?'. I replied that they were from the 70s and was told they would special order the titles for me, but they wouldn't be carrying them in their store! very angry

I have absolutely nothing against teens and 20-something adults, but not every DVD buyer is 15-25, there are some of us well above those ages and while we will buy films made today, we'd also like access to titles made 30-50 years ago, too! beating the admin

Indeed. Back in late 1999 when I first started buying DVDs, and was much more naive about what was on official R1 DVD and what wasn't, I shopped heavily for discs at Suncoast Motion Picture Co(in a mall) and at a Best Buy near the mall that housed the "Suncoast" store. I would ask retail associates in these two stores if they carried Mothra, Battle In Outer Space, Gorath, The Return Of Godzilla, The H-Man, and Matango. Based on the blank looks I got, and the confused and vague responses I received, I felt as though I was talking to them in a foreign language. freak out

:<!--emo&lol:-->Posted Image<!--endemo--> I know, it seems I get those exact same looks, regardless of the age of the person I am talking to. shock Then, I have to spell the title of the film, offer a year it was produced/released, give an actor/actress and finally a director, only to be told....'It's not in our system, are you sure there is such a film?'! very angry

That sounds like something that Ray Barone's(Ray Romano) dad might have said to his wife(Ray's mom) on Everybody Loves Raymond. That was a funny TV show. happy dance

And my response after they said that would be: "Do you really think I would drive 15 miles here, nearly getting in two car wrecks in the process, then damn near get run over walking across the store parking lot, just to walk in here and admire your store decorations...further killing time by engaging in conversation with a store associate and making all of this the hell up?????" freak out

:<!--emo&lol:-->Posted Image<!--endemo--> What little I have seen of that show, it would seem like something Frank would say. My Mom loved that show, there were times, I'd forget she watched it and I;d happen to call during the show and Mom would be laughing so hard, I'd have to call her back after the show was over. One that she especially seemed to enjoy was a Thanksgiving episode, I believe, where Ray's wife's father and new girlfriend came and I guess the girlfriend was an elderly woman and everyone was so shocked and Ray's Mom was afraid or perhaps Frank did say something that she (Frank's wife), reached up and smacked him right across the face. :<!--emo&lol:-->Posted Image<!--endemo-->

More thread drift(ain't it grand? tongue-1 ): though I have never been a "sitcom" person I have enjoyed, over the decades, many comedy television series. My top ten, in no particular order:

1. Sanford And Son
2. All In The Family
3. Night Court
4. Three's Company
5. Everybody Loves Raymond
6. Benson
7. Taxi
8. Barney Miller
9. The Jeffersons
10. The Mary Tyler Moore Show

Honorable mention: Seinfeld

It's funny, my paternal Grnadmother's family came from Wales, England and Ireland, I'm not sure, but my Grandmother might have been a first generation American, but anyway, she was extremely proud of her heritage and I think she used phrases and such that she heard growing up and I think I picked some up from her, but 'brilliant', that has to be from the commercial. That's cool. :) Many years ago, long before both my grandparents passed away, someone on Granddad's side of the family did a family history that was quite fascinating. A member of Granddad's family....some sort of clergyman offered the prayer bfore the Mayflower set off for America. He didn't make the trip, but he offered a prayer. Then, another member of Granddad'd family married a Native American and she had the neatest name......Thankful Hawk! I love stuff like that. Mr Green

My father and I once sat down with some really ancient diaries passed along on my father's side of the family. I never knew my grandfather, who died, at age 77(1885-1962), in the year I was born, 1962. My grandfather did keep excellent written records of his life, and his own father, who would be my great-grandfather, who was born in 1848, and worked on a plantation in South Carolina. My great grandfather, who wholly disapproved of slavery, taught, in secrret, all of the slaves who worked at this plantation how to read and write-later, after the Emancipation Proclamation of 1864 was signed into law by President Abraham Lincoln, my great grandfather helped sneak a great many slaves off the plantation, at great personal risk to his own life, and help them move north by train, as many of the newly free black men, as he wrote, wanted to move north in order to join the Union Army.

Reading of my great grandfather's exploits was like reading a history book.

I feel very fortunate to have had my paternal grandparents with me for 29 and 38 years and my maternal grandmother is still with us, she's going to celebrate her 80th birthday on 02 April. I lost my maternal grandfather when I was 2, but actually can remember a couple of times with him!

I miss having Grandma and Graddad around, as it was great fun, picking their brains for memories of their youth. Dad has even said there's been times he thought he wanted to know something and was going to ask Grandma and/or Granddad and suddenly remembered, he couldn't ask them! That's sad and scary at the same time!

Seniors, that is, elderly folks, should, IMO, always be revered, and respected. I consider Mrs. C, my 86 year old landlord, as the grandmother I never had before, but, fortunately for me, I have now. thumbs up

It's funny, my Mom and Dad's family's were neighbors and both Grandma's and Grandfather's were friends, but they all couldn't have been more different. Dad's parent's were a good 10+ years older than Mom's parent's and my relationship with my Grandma's was quite different. Grandma Davis was more nurturing, although very devilsh and full of fun while Grandma Repsher is not as nurturing and she and I have butted heads on several occasions, but I love/loved them both dearly and wouldn't change my relationships with either. It's odd, Grandma Davis has been gone almost 13 years, now, in fact, at the end of this month, it will be 13 years and I miss her every single day.
