Welcome to MONSTERLAND FORUMS! We are a casual and friendly online community of movie fans who like to talk about giant monsters, horror and sci-fi in cinema, on television and on Blu Ray/DVD. There are forums for sports, casual chat and video games as well. For those of you who like making art, writing stories and creating videos, our community includes a forum for these submissions as well. Check out our main index page and other board forums! Anyone is welcome to join our community!

MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

I used to walk through the woods(behind my house) on weekends, as an early teenager, and at night, alone, imagining that a werewolf or some other monster was following me. Do this enough times and when you hear, or think you hear, a twig snap near you, it'll raise the hairs on the back of your neck. It sure as hell did mine. loco2
Hey, ya just never know. shifty eyes Anything could be out there.

Anyone else love Jonny Quest? I like that show a lot. The 60s version. Someday I think it would be awesome to make a movie of that, unless someone else does first.

Anyways. Race Bannon was pretty ace in that. I'm thinking about looking like him on Halloween. Not the scariest costume, unless you're a bad guy that is. It's a pretty simple look. Red shirt, white hair, jeans, and boots.

I have the Jonny Quest(1964) TV series on DVD. It's one of my favorite all time animated cartoon series. thumbz up

Trivia question: what is "Race" Bannon's real first name? ( tongue-1 )

I've seen a few blurbs on the internet about a possible live action Jonny Quest film but nothing more than the occasional rumor.

Darn. I just saw it on IMDB the other day. But now I've forgotten it.

EDIT: Looked it up. Roger T. 'Race' Bannon. mummy1 Haha, this emoticon reminds me of a certain episode. ghosty And this one reminds me of another. That invisible monster episode scared the living heck out of me when I was a kid. The monster is a lot like Forbidden Planet, and that movie also scared me more than any other movie ever has. There must be something about invisible and indestructible monsters that particularly scares me.

"The Invisible Monster" episode is a great one. I also especially like the episodes about the scientist(who kidnaps Dr. Quest) and the giant mutations(spider, crab) and that huge dino at the end. I also liked the episode in which the UFO is taken into Quest's laboratory and it turns out to be this walking spy robot, with the single moving "eye". Very cool!

Guess I never responded to this. I think I still need to see that spy robot one. I remember it from the intro anyway.

I've been seeing more and more yard Halloween decorations in neighborhoods around town. Yesterday we drove by a house that had eight inflatable decorations, including a witch, the Franeknstein monster, and Scooby Doo.

Well, Halloween is about six weeks away. I'll post the programming line up for AMC's "Fearfest" as soon as it's up at AMC's website. I'll post TCM's schedule later today. I have always liked Turner Classic Movies' line up a lot better...at least in recent years.

My paranormal research group is doing this investigation tonight with a couple of contest winners and a couple of local newspapers. One of the newspapers is going to be streaming the event live starting at around 10 pm PST tonight. Not sure how entertaining it will be, but check it out if you're bored tonight.

Well, I thought there's no better way to resurrect the Halloween topic thread by posting an article about competitive pumpkin growing. This "sport", if you will, first came to national prominence at the World's Fair events back in the 1800's. The first huge gourd, weighing in at 400 lbs, was one of the first to garner it's owner an award.

Now pumpkins are routinely grown tipping the scales at over 1500 lbs. In 2010 Chris Stevens grew a gourd that weighed an astonishing 1810 lbs and was recognized by the Guiness Book Of World Records as being the largest gourd on Earth. This year the record is expected to be broken with pumpkins exceeding a full ton in weight. Anyway, I'm going to watch some pumpkin launching contests, because that seems like the right thing to do. big grin

And I can't wait for the bar Halloween parties; all those french maids and nurses running around...

For Halloween this year I'm watching horror and sci-fi movies all month long. So far I've watched "An American Werewolf in London" and "John Carpenter's The Thing".

Not sure what all I'm going to watch I know for sure The Howling will be thrown in there at some point this month as will all the Univeral Monster movies except The Invisible Man and The Mummy films as I don't have those Legacy collections.

heyo

What are the pumpkins "launched" out of: a cannon? A huge slingshot? Or do people simply get drunk and hurl them off of building rooftops?

You've never seen pumpkin launching?

Ok, it's kind of a slingshot, but it's not. They have these machines; some guys have motorized, others have mechanical, that have counterweights and gears and stuff like that built in to sling the pumpkin to the maximum distance. The contests are really fun to watch; every once in a while you can catch it on the discovery channel. In all seriousness, it can be very interesting; especially when they show what goes into making the machines. It's like Junkyard Wars.

You've never seen pumpkin launching?

No. Back when I was in college we used to take rubber tubing from the biology building, run it through each side of a cut in half one gallon plastic carton, tie the tubing to columns in our barracks(it was a military college) and create makeshift "sling shots" for hurling softball and volleyball sized soaking wet wads of toilet paper "spit balls", these things fired at cadets walking around down on the quad(floor) of the barracks. This is the only thing I've ever done that involves "launching" anything. loco2

Hell yes; just got finished watching Frankenstein (1931). Well, actually the last forty-five minutes of it. I've never seen it before, and it was a pretty good flick. Frankyz

AMC's Fearfest for 2011 is IMO better than last year's. This year the "Fest" is hosted by George Romero and a lot of his zombie horror films will be broadcast. AMC is also mixing in more older films as well. I have most of the 2011 Fearfest movie line up posted at this message board. I'm going to post the remainder of it tomorrow(Tuesday).

Yes though not on AMC. I'll watch my DVD copy of it instead. I'm going to watch the first three "Halloween" films on DVD in a couple of weeks.

Walgreens(the one located very close to my residence) is selling some cool looking Jason Voohees and Freddy Krueger overhead masks. I'm thinking of buying the "Jason" mask and simply adding it to my collectibles table.

This is the funniest Halloween decoration I've ever seen. very funny
Besides the costume parties, I still haven't made up my mind about what I'm going to do this year. My sister doesn't have any decorations, and me being fresh out of my parent's house, neither do I. I thought about sitting in the bushes in the front yard with some black cats and wait for the pranksters to start messing around. In the neighborhood across from us, there's a bunch of idiot teenagers that like to mess around late at night, and one night they lit a string of firecrackers and threw them in our yard. No damage, but it was annoying.
I'll probably just stay at home and watch movies though. I've been keeping an eye on TCM and AMC; earlier this month I caught Frankenstein, and later on this month; I believe the 29th they're showing Godzilla, King of the Monsters on TCM.
