Welcome to MONSTERLAND FORUMS! We are a casual and friendly online community of movie fans who like to talk about giant monsters, horror and sci-fi in cinema, on television and on Blu Ray/DVD. There are forums for sports, casual chat and video games as well. For those of you who like making art, writing stories and creating videos, our community includes a forum for these submissions as well. Check out our main index page and other board forums! Anyone is welcome to join our community!

MONSTERLAND FORUMS was created on January 29, 2006 for the purpose of giving fans of giant monster films and other sci-fi/horror movies a friendly online meeting place to discuss all of their favorite films and other things of interest like video gaming and sports.

MONSTERLAND FORUMS has 180,000 posts. This online community, while over twelve years old, is currently no longer as active as the early years(between 2007-2009). Still, we have a half dozen members who continue to participate here.

For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

Thanks, Lee, but I can almost feel a prequel to this series, coming along, eventually, can't you?

Thanks, Lee, I'll look into that! :) My main problem is, many of the photos I want to use as avatars are large photos and it's when I try and reduce the size, that I see they become quite fuzzy. :(

Eh...maybe. I understand what you're saying. A film that shows how "Jigsaw" went from a man just told by his doctor he has terminal cancer to a twisted and malevolent maniac. I wouldn't mind a "prequel" like this being made. I mean, what can they do in "Saw 4" that hasn't already been shown in the third installment? eyebrow

I saw where the third "Jeepers Creepers" film, which I believe is still in development, was possibly going to be a prequel of sorts-the time setting for "Jeepers Creepers 3" was going to be in the Old West, circa the early or mid 1800's. This may, or may not be, the final storyline for the third "Creeper" film.

especially given the small budgets.
Though not always small(cheap) sets. Example: The Masque Of The Red Death(1964), which Robert Osborne(of TCM) pointed out used the same sets as were used for the film Becket(1964). thumbs up

It just seems when Hollywood has gone as far as they can with a film, they decide to look back and see what brought about the circumstance of a film. I agree, seeing 'Jigsaw' going from a.....I'm assuming a normal/stable man to one that is totally off his rocker, would or could be interesting.

Hammer Studios often used the same sets when making films back to back. I think in the right creative hands, this practice could be done and done well. thumbs up

Corman was a master at that! Didn't Corman pen a book about directing all those films and never losing a dime? I'll have to check into that at Amazon, I'm sure I saw a Corman book at Borders, years ago.

Last night, Carol and I ran to the Chinese Buffet for dinner and had to go into K-Mart for cat litter and cat treats...the usual fun items and I naturally wandered back to the Christmas section. In their ornament section, they have a Godzilla ornament that has Godzilla's roar, when a button is pushed! :D

I haven't removed the ornament from the box yet....not sure I will, but the bit right behind Godzilla appears to have, Mothra, Rodan, King Ghidorah and Mechagodzilla in the background! Godzilla is in color, but the background is gold in color and the ornament is in a bubble type package, so making out the others is a bit tough....if I decide to pull the ornament out, I'll look at it a little closer.

While Godzilla won't hang from ym tree.....I perfer a more traditional Christmas tree, I am thrilled to have this ornament! B)

For Halloween, even after all the films we screened for SHOCK IT TO ME! the previous weekend, I watched NIGHT OF THE LIVING dead and LAMORA: A CHILD'S TALE OF THE SUPERNATURAL.

You know, and with no disrespect to traditional Christmas trees, but I wouldn't mind having a Godzilla shaped Xmas tree this year... tongue-1

Kimi, I noticed you mentioned "cat litter" and "cat treats" regarding your sojourn to K-Mart...you have a cat in you residence? eyebrow

It's still a disturbing little film almost 40 years later... I saw it on the Big Screen for the first time last year, and I didn't realize the impact the film projects in its original format -- having seen it all these years only on television -- or how gruesome some of the scenes really are. The film will certainly outlive its sequels and imitations far into the future.

 Now, that would be an interesting tree! As you are in the landscaping business, Lee, do you trim/shape shrubs? I bet with a little work, you could probably whittle a regulation Christmas tree into something very cool! Mr Green

Yes, that would be Heiney Butt. Mr Green When we originally were moving to this apartment, it stipulated no pets. We put up a photo and info on HB all over and no takers. So, the day before we were to begin the move, Carol stopped in to drop off a check and explained the situation to one half of the owner/Landlord and said we'd continue the search to find HB a home, but could he just move with us, long enough to find a new home. The Landlord and his wife are very sweet people and she said she didn't see how one small cat was going to cause problems, so they let us keep him......I still question at times, if that was being kind to us! ;)

I'd love to see this film on the big screen!

Some of the gruesome scenes happened so fast on screen, you almost aren't sure of what you saw and I think that's where our inagination really kicks into over-drive and we can make things so much more gruesone than they were....that's great filmmaking, in my opinion! thumbs up

That would be neat. I love anything associated with Godzilla.....a couple of years ago, while in south Florida with Carol, to visit her family, we ended up in a comic book store that had the coolest figures...a huge rainbow Mothra and a couple different Godzilla figures....I wanted them in the worst kind of way, but the price tags were rather high for me. A mug, I could probably afford. :)

Cats. People either love them or hate them. I love 'em. I have a cat named Aly and my girlfriend Jennifer has one named Bella. We just moved into a townhouse together and luckily our two felines get along rather well. Initially Bella was a little unhappy to see another furball running around. She used to hiss and growl at little Aly but now they're great together. It's really cute when they touch noses. :)

Back on topic: If I had a Godzilla ornament I'd put it up on the tree in a nanosecond. I'd like to get some STAR WARS ornanments too. If I had my way my tree would be trimmed with Godzilla, Darth Vader, the Millennium Falcon, Star Destroyers, TIE Figthers, Luke Skywalker, Boba Fett, and SUPERMAN!

Amazingly enough, I was NEVER a cat person! I only picked up Heiney Butt for Carol, as she had to leave her cat behind, when she moved north. The funny thing is, as much as HB drives me insane, I do love him to pieces. He likes me to hold him like a baby and cuddle him and Carol calls him a traitor, she'll beg and call him to come to her and if I'm in the same room, he lays on top of me, rather than her!

Mom bought me some Star Trek Christmas decorations several years back and I cherish them, because she picked them out, but for me, the tree always has to be traditional. I do use the decorations/ornamets as simple displays on an every day basis, though, so they do see the light of day. :D

^I grew up with a dog so throughout my entire childhood I'd never even petted a cat. It wasn't until I was a teenager when my family got our first cat, Joe. Ever since then I've loved cats. Kaijufanatic, much like your cat mine also loves to be cradled and hugged.

Anyone else around here suffering from post-Halloween withdrawal? Symptoms: sweaty palms, restlessness, periodic headaches, and an occasional urge to hurl the TV remote out the window. The cause: lack of decent horror movies on television, and the continued "Sci-fi original movie" repeats with terrible acting and cheap-looking CGI effects. No cure, but treatments range from a horror movie marathon at Turner Classic Movies, a free, year-long subscription to Monsters HD or The Horror Channel, or a $1000 giveaway of horror DVDs from Best Buy. faster <!--emo&shifty eyes-->Posted Image<!--endemo-->

For me, I do the norm, as in, have relatives come over to my house and have a large turkey dinner, blah blah blah.

But Before dinner I was host my own little movie marathon where I choose 3 films to watch.

Last year I chose all Godzilla films but this year im broadening it to King Kong vs. Godzilla, King Kong Escapes, and Pearl Harbor.

Anyone else have any traditions they would like to share?

Funny, I never thought I'd find myself holding a cat, let alone loving one and here I am, acting all goofy over this cat of ours. :D Another thing HB does, if he wants my attention, he'll get on his hind legs and reach up to me....I'll bend down and pick him up and he acts just like a small child.....looking over my shoulder and purring away!

Not knowing much about cats, Dad was here one time and he got laughing about how HB wanted to be cradled like a baby and I mentioned I'd never seen a cat want to be held like that, but Dad said, since we'd done that to him as a small kitten, he didn't mind it, but try that with a stand-offish older cat and you might get a swat across your face! freak out

My tradition for Thanksgiving now includes dining with Dad, Carol and any combination of my two younger brothers. Dad either joins us or last year, he hosted the event. We have the traditional turkey with all the yummy trimmings. You have to love a holiday that encourages, gluttony! Mr Green

As a young one and before my parents divorced, they hosted Thanksgiving for their parents, so Thanksgiving morning was very exciting, we'd wake to the smells of the roasting turkey.....anyone else remember parents or grandparents popping the turkey in the oven late the night before, Thanksgiving! Then, we'd eat breakfast and Dad would usher us into the livingroom, where we only received one channel, CBS and we'd watch the Thanksgiving Day parades.....they were tons better, I think, than today's efforts. Both sets of grandparents would arrive and my paternal grandparents always brought our Advent calendars with them, which was very exciting and then the women would work in the kitchen and the men and my two younger brothers and I would join them in the livingroom. After a huge and delicious meal, off to the livingroom went the men and we kids while Mom and our Grandmothers would chat in the kitchen and clean up. We'd watch football in the livingroom, until it was time for dessert and then we basically napped and were lazy the remainder of the day.

Such an exciting time as a kid. The following day, 'Black Friday', Mom and Dad would get a sitter for us and they'd shop all day. Mom said it was just about the only time she could get my Dad into a mall and she made the most of it. After that, it was tons of shopping through the JC Penney and Sears catalogs. Sorry for the ramble, but so many wonderful memories for me, it's a time of the year I love and look forward to new memories and look back fondly at the old memories. :)

Thanksgiving officially kicks off my own holiday season of Christmas viewing, so usually Thanksgiving night, after folks have gone home, we pop in any of the following DVDs:

-Miracle On 34th Street (1947)--Since this film begins on Thanksgiving, it's neat to watch!

-White Christmas--Any excuse for me to watch this holiday favorite!

-Any of the Rankin & Bass Christmas TV classics

I mentioned this in an earlier thread, but when I was a kid and once we had cable, WWOR which was a kind of superstation out of either NJ or NYC would have a marathon of films on 'Black Friday'. That was always a wonderful day for me as a kid.....great films all day and tons of yummy leftovers. :D

Indeed. I've noticed that TCM's programming has been very heavy with older dramas(1940's/1950's) starting just after Halloween. Speaking of DVD collections, mine, at DVD Aficianado, now sits at 518 DVD titles. That does not include my DVD-R inventory, which is about 50, and my VHS inventory, still hanging on at 12. How many DVDs are on your list at this site(or comparable site), Kimi? eyebrow
