For some time now we've been hearing from George Lucas and Lucasfilm Ltd. that there is a live-action Star Wars television series in the works. The purpose of this thread is to serve as a bulletin board for SWTV info. If you hear any new info regarding this exciting project feel free to tack it up here. Let's keep the Force alive at Monsterland. I'll get it started:

From: http://www.hollywood.com/news/detail/id/3484376 :

Quote:

MARCH 15th, 2006:

The series will focus on the missing years between Revenge of the Sith and the original Star Wars movie, released in 1977.

Producer Rick McCullum said at Monday night's Empire Awards, "We're very excited--we just got confirmation George Lucas has committed to writing the Star Wars TV series.

"I guess this is the news all fans have been waiting to hear."

Filming on the TV series is expected to commence next year.

October 7, 2005:

ComingSoon.net attended the Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith DVD junket at Skywalker Ranch on Thursday, October 6th. At the event, "Star Wars" producer Rick McCallum talked about both the new 3-D animated Clone Wars series and the live-action series in development.

He added that "the live-action television series is something we're planning for just at the beginning of 2007 and we're just starting to interview writers and trying to really figure out, you know, which direction... It is going to be much darker, much grittier, it's much more character-based. He envisions somewhere like 100 hours between 'Episode III' and 'Episode IV' with a lot of characters that we haven't met but have been developed in other novels and other things. So, we're really excited about that because I think finally we can have the opportunity to answer everybody's questions once and for all by the time we finish the series."

Asked where the live-action series will be shot and in what kind of format, McCallum said that "principal photography will take place all around the world, probably with a base in Sydney. And, yes, we will be shooting in hi-def. Or, if anything else evolves within the next 12 months, you know, that would replace hi-def. I don't see that happening, but there may be new and more, or less expensive cameras with more optical imagery or optical discs that we record on. But basically it will be hi-def, yes."

Frank Oz, the voice of Yoda in the films, was also present and addressed a question whether or not he and Yoda will be part of the two new series. "Rick and I haven't talked about it yet. I am involved in the animated series right now. We're here at the Ranch as Rick said and we're currently working on the project and I'm very excited about that. The live-action is a little further out, so we haven't had those discussions yet. But knowing George and knowing the franchise there's going to be animated characters in there, we just haven't discussed them yet."

Ian McDiarmid, who played Emperor Palpatine, was asked a similar question about revisiting his character in the TV series. "Nobody really knows the details of the television series, I don't think that's because people are being particularly coy. I just think a lot of things haven't been decided yet. But I know that George's intention is to follow one of the characters who's been less highlighted up to now, but has been very popular with audiences. And sure, if it's the period between the movies, the Emperor has to be referred to. But you'll remember he was referred to often without actually appearing in the first Star Wars movie. And Peter Cushing was his very effective representative. So, I suspect there might be a number of very effective representatives, but you know, I always answer my telephone."

So there ya go. That's about all we know about the show for now but I'm sure by the end of the year we'll have more concrete info and possibly some photos. THANK GOD Star Wars is not over yet!

I liked the lastest three films although the last one was best out of the three.

As for the expanded universe there are over 50 novels out the with 80% of the including the original characters (luke Skywalker and co) starting from the "courtship of princess Leia through the Vong war and then to the "legacy of the force series.

I have read all of them Upto but not including "Sacrific" and have gotta say they have kept me going on my Starwars fix, if you read science fiction they are well worth the read.

I read most of "The New Jedi Order". For the most part I enjoyed the series but I felt it dragged on for a bit too long. The Yuuzhan Vong were an interesting threat and Luke was more kick-ass than ever.

Never read any of the "Legacy of the Force" series but I understand a lot of fans are not happy about events that have unfolded.

Timothy Zahn's "Thrawn" trilogy was solid. I even have the 18-issue comic adaptation from Dark Horse Comics. If you loved the novels I highly recommend picking up the trade paperbacks comics. Good stuff.

See, that's tough. I used to love Darth Vader. Then I had a bad experience with a Guy in a Vader Costume and then Revenge of the Sith Came out and Darth Vader didn't kill the Jedi! He kill a bunch of defensless kids! So, that ruined the whole Vader being all powerfull and evil in my eyes. Personally, I like Darth Maul. And yes, I know he was killed be Darth Vader in a Comic book, But He's faster, can use all Dark Side Powers and has all of his limbs in The Phantom Menace. Darth Maul could take Darth Vader (in the Vader Suit). Vader's weakness in Force Lightning.

My favorite "Darth" has been Maul since I first saw the 1999 SW film. I like how he employed two light sabers(and not just one). I also thought his appearance was very menacing, what with the horns(or whatever those things are called) and the face paint. Maul looked about as evil as the Devil himself.

True. True. I've seen it far too many times. I just remember they used that line for a lot of the trailers when the movie was first released.

I was thinking about the last time I actually watched Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace(1999), and it dawned on me I watched it once, after I bought the DVD of it, I believe back in 2000. That, and the fact my short term memory suffers a bit sometimes, may be why I didn't remember the lines from Maul. I hope. freak out

He only spoke about 2 or 3 lines so it's easy to forget the fact that he spoke. Boba Fett only spoke a few lines in EMPIRE and had no dialogue (except for the screaming) in JEDI.

^I'll spoil it, I don't care. Jason goes to the Dark Side. Mara Jade is killed. I know those were two key points as to why the series is not well liked by fans.

There's a reason why you couldn't find them, Jae: there aren't any. freak out

I've never used them so it's possible that's why I've never noticed the absence of any. There are code "add-ons" at Invisionfree Skin Zone that, I believe, include the "spoiler" tag. I'll look into incorporating an add on of this type into this message board, either today or tomorrow. Thanks and sorry about this. :)

Has anyone seen the New Clone Wars Trailer that's coming out with the movie Speed Racer. It was leaked yesterday and taken off of youtube. But I found it somewhere else.

This looks so good. I'll admit, I was scared at first. But the Lightsaber fights and the Space Battles look too good! Not crazy about the likeness (if you want to call it that) of Count Dooku.

Yeah, it looks awesome. And that is Samuel L Jackson providing his voice for Mace Windu. ;)

I'm still far more excited about the live-action series.

The animation certainly gets your attention. When I look at this CGI animation and think back to some of the stuff I grew up on in the 60's the difference is mind boggling. It makes me wonder where we'll be in the next forty years.

In 40 years I'd say animation (such as this) will be indistinguishable from live-action. I've no doubt Lucasfilm could've gone more photo-realistic with their animation style but chose to go the pseudo-anime route.

yes that I can understand but was that not the same as killing off chewbacca and then Anakin Solo both of which were bit characters although Chewbacca more so.

As I say I have not read Sacrifice yet but had heard Mara had been killed and was to start with a little upset but that being said it will add new twists to the series and beyond.

The books are more moving away form the ROJ characters and more to the younger ones like jaina, jacien and Ben.

Initially I considered this article for the "Fortean Crypt" topic thread but then reconsidered, given its "Star Wars" context.

In Wales(UK) a man dressed as Darth Vader, wearing a garbage bag for a cape, assaulted two men who are members of a religious sect calling themselves the "Church Of Jediism". Arwel Hughes attacked Barney Jones and cousin Michael Jones with a metal crutch. Thankfully neither of the two was seriously injured. In court an attorney for the Darth Vader wannabe told the judge his client felt remorse for his actions and had no recollection of the incident because he'd consumed nearly 2.5 gallons of wine before seeking out the two "Jedis". The judge suspended Hughes' one year sentence and ordered him to pay restitution to both of the Jones, and also pay court costs: May the farce be with you: man dressed as Darth Vader sentenced in assault

LOL, George Lucas getting more money.... I used to be a big Star Wars Toy Collector. Then I realized that most of the stuff coming out was repackaged, repainted stuff that was already out. Now, I just buy the New stuff. The Orignal stuff.
