For some time now we've been hearing from George Lucas and Lucasfilm Ltd. that there is a live-action Star Wars television series in the works. The purpose of this thread is to serve as a bulletin board for SWTV info. If you hear any new info regarding this exciting project feel free to tack it up here. Let's keep the Force alive at Monsterland. I'll get it started:

From: http://www.hollywood.com/news/detail/id/3484376 :

Quote:

MARCH 15th, 2006:

The series will focus on the missing years between Revenge of the Sith and the original Star Wars movie, released in 1977.

Producer Rick McCullum said at Monday night's Empire Awards, "We're very excited--we just got confirmation George Lucas has committed to writing the Star Wars TV series.

"I guess this is the news all fans have been waiting to hear."

Filming on the TV series is expected to commence next year.

October 7, 2005:

ComingSoon.net attended the Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith DVD junket at Skywalker Ranch on Thursday, October 6th. At the event, "Star Wars" producer Rick McCallum talked about both the new 3-D animated Clone Wars series and the live-action series in development.

He added that "the live-action television series is something we're planning for just at the beginning of 2007 and we're just starting to interview writers and trying to really figure out, you know, which direction... It is going to be much darker, much grittier, it's much more character-based. He envisions somewhere like 100 hours between 'Episode III' and 'Episode IV' with a lot of characters that we haven't met but have been developed in other novels and other things. So, we're really excited about that because I think finally we can have the opportunity to answer everybody's questions once and for all by the time we finish the series."

Asked where the live-action series will be shot and in what kind of format, McCallum said that "principal photography will take place all around the world, probably with a base in Sydney. And, yes, we will be shooting in hi-def. Or, if anything else evolves within the next 12 months, you know, that would replace hi-def. I don't see that happening, but there may be new and more, or less expensive cameras with more optical imagery or optical discs that we record on. But basically it will be hi-def, yes."

Frank Oz, the voice of Yoda in the films, was also present and addressed a question whether or not he and Yoda will be part of the two new series. "Rick and I haven't talked about it yet. I am involved in the animated series right now. We're here at the Ranch as Rick said and we're currently working on the project and I'm very excited about that. The live-action is a little further out, so we haven't had those discussions yet. But knowing George and knowing the franchise there's going to be animated characters in there, we just haven't discussed them yet."

Ian McDiarmid, who played Emperor Palpatine, was asked a similar question about revisiting his character in the TV series. "Nobody really knows the details of the television series, I don't think that's because people are being particularly coy. I just think a lot of things haven't been decided yet. But I know that George's intention is to follow one of the characters who's been less highlighted up to now, but has been very popular with audiences. And sure, if it's the period between the movies, the Emperor has to be referred to. But you'll remember he was referred to often without actually appearing in the first Star Wars movie. And Peter Cushing was his very effective representative. So, I suspect there might be a number of very effective representatives, but you know, I always answer my telephone."

So there ya go. That's about all we know about the show for now but I'm sure by the end of the year we'll have more concrete info and possibly some photos. THANK GOD Star Wars is not over yet!

Ummm...I'm not registered at the Star Wars board and I'm too lazy to sign up. What is the link about, Lee?

The site itself has a variety of features: the forums, a shop, and other SW related stuff. I haven't looked at it very much...which is why my reply is so vague. tongue-1

I just got back from seeing The Clone Wars. My expectations were pretty low but I ended up enjoying the film quite a bit. The action sequences were very cool and the animation was great. The movie was definitely written with younger fans in mind but if you go in with that expectation it's pretty good entertainment.

Let's get to the live-action TV series already, George!

I heard bad stuff about the new animated film but I'm going to keep an open mind until I see it myself. If it is geared for younger viewers it probably pissed off all those 30-somethings that grew up in the 80's and swear they are the biggest fans ever, angry because it doesn't feel tailored to them. I have a couple old buddies like that, and those guys can definitely get annoying.

Y'know, I hate to say this but I'm just bored with Star Wars right now. I'm barely interested in the Clone Wars series and haven't watched any of the films in quite a while. I think it's due to a lack of any live-action projects that's causing my enthusiasm to wane (just like Godzilla). At least there's still the live-action series to look forward to.

Perhaps not for much longer, Dan with this news: George Lucas has begun casting for the long awaited "Star Wars" live action TV series.

As much as I hate the prequels and think Lucas has become a hack, I wouldn't mind acting in that TV show.

Ever wondered what happened to young Jake Lloyd, who portrayed a very young "Anakin Skywalker" in the film Star Wars Episode I - The Phantom Menace(1999)? So have I...until now: http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/buzz_log_anakin.html

I was watching the original Star Wars Trilogy (Episodes 4-6) on Spike HD Christmas Eve and I was just wondering... what's the word on Blu Ray releases for the Star Wars series? (Episodes 1-6) The DVD releases did the series some justice, but them being shown in HD looks really sweet also.

There has been no official announcement about when the "Star Wars" films will get a Blu-Ray release, Russ.

There is one site that says that, according to it's "industry sources". the "Star Wars" films, at least some of them, will being to release as Blu-Rays in 2011...and that a Blu-Ray "box" set of all six films may get released in 2011. Source: http://www.thedigitalbits.com/rumormill.html

At this point it certainly appears that we'll have to continue to play the waiting game for them. winky

Know what I do when I lose interest and get bored with a particular movie or series? Make myself sit down and watch it. That usually revitalizes my interest.

Looks like all six "Star Wars" films are going to be re-released(and theatrically) as 3D movies: http://robojapan.blogspot.com/2010/09/george-lucas-moving-forward-with-star.html

I'd be annoyed by this, but the lengths Lucas has already gone to milk Star Wars, erase the theatrical versions of the original trilogy, and avoid doing anything unrelated to Star Wars has already jaded me. I have no desire to see the original trilogy converted to 3D, or even see the prequels again period. All I want is for the theatrical versions of the original trilogy to receive the same level of treatment as the enhanced versions. That means, whenever a new media format comes out, like DVD or Blu-ray, I want the theatrical versions to get a release alongside the enhanced versions.

Would you settle for a sequel trilogy of films set after the last of the six films already released? Here's why I ask: http://gizmodo.com/5671722/george-lucas-reported-creating-new-star-wars-sequel-trilogy-thats-not-about-the-skywalkers

If Lucas was involved in any way other than producer and story creator, like in the actual writing of the screenplay or the direction, then I'd rather not see it. In fact with Lucas involved at all, he would probably ruin it. He has too much power. No one will say no to anything he wants to do with these movies. Lucas wants to CG everything but the actors? Done. Nobody questions him.

I'd like to see a Darth Bane Trilogy, or Republic/Imperial Commando trilogy. Darth Bane is awesome and I've heard Republic Commando/Imperial Commando is pretty good. Either way, adapting existing material leaves less room to eff up.

I may buy that, eventually. I love Blu-ray. But it's still disgusting to me how far Lucas has gone to attempt to eradicate the theatrical versions from existence.

I'm hoping that they make the theatrical versions available like they did with the DVD's. But with all the tons and tons and tons of extra special features that will be on these discs, I won't be dissapointed if they don't.

Yeah, the special features would be nice to have. And I do want to own the special editions in addition to the theatrical versions.

The DVD releases of the theatrical editions sucked. No 5.1. No anamorphic widescreen. It was just a transfer of the older laserdisc release. That said, I still want to own them.

i would have thought that there would already be a thread for this, but it turns out (from the places i searched) there wasn't. to start this discussion thread off, let's talk about the latest upcoming event for the star wars saga:
STAR WARS 3D
yup, it's confirmed by lucasfilm. each year, starting 2012, a star wars film will be converted to 3D. this is the confirmed order.
2012: THE PHANTOM MENACE
2013: ATTACK OF THE CLONES
2014: REVENGE OF THE SITH
2015: STAR WARS (or, A NEW HOPE)
2016: THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK
2017: RETURN OF THE JEDI
what do you guys think of this? personally, if they do a good job with the converting, it might work pretty well. but we have to keep in mind these films were never meant to be in 3D.
