For those who enjoy giant monster movies be sure to check out THE MEG, opening in theaters on August 10th, 2018. This film, based on the 1997 book "Meg", written by Steve Alten, features an enormous, 75 foot long Megalodon shark! Other giant monster movies that we fans can look forward to: GODZILLA KING OF THE MONSTERS(in 2019) and GODZILLA VS KONG in 2020! PACIFIC RIM-UPRISING(2018), the sequel to 2013's "Pacific Rim", is about to release to Ultra 4k and Blu Ray. In these movies, 250 foot tall robots defend Earth from an assault of other worldly giant monsters(kaiju).

Seems like only yesterday when we were getting early glimpses of the first TRANSFORMERS movie. Now, here we go again with our countdown to TRANSFORMERS: REVENGE OF THE FALLEN.

Check out USA TODAY for some cool pics of the upcoming movie.

It looks like almost the entire human cast is back (Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, John Torturro, Josh Duhamel). And of course the Autobots (Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, etc) and Decepticons (Starscream, Megatron) will be returning. However, this time around we'll finally be seeing fan favorites like Devastator and Soundwave!

Okay, so I watched Dark of the Moon earlier today. My thoughts:

The action was definitely easier to follow, and it was great. The rest of it was an irritating cesspit of poorly written and dumb as hell human characters, complete with the exploitation of various tragedies and other bits of history around the globe. The stuff that audiences, including myself, complain about from Revenge of the Fallen is toned back to an ALMOST tolerable level, but none of it is actually 100% gone.

At one point when Sam and the gang are trying to enter the city and it went back to the Nest Headquarters, I could swear I saw a video of the Challenger Explosion playing on one of the screens in the background. I'm serious, it looked just like that shuttle as it began to loose its balance. Read into that what you will.

Sam has also devolved further into a whiny, tantrum-throwing little baby. This is the guy we're supposed to root for? In the beginning he claims that he's a hero yet all he did in the other movies was run around carrying a McGuffin that the Decepticons wanted and shove them into robotic chests. The boss lady was right, that basically fits the description of a delivery boy.

All in all, if they had cut out half of the movie and rewrote the human characters to be more likable, I'd probably have liked it.

EDIT: I'll also say this - the Decepticons seem to be getting nastier with each movie. In the first one, they were pretty clean. Still looked evil as all hell, but pretty clean. In the second one, I noticed a couple of them were slobbering, and the small group of Insecticons from the cartoon were made into thousands of little robotic Decepticon spies.

In the third movie, we have Megatron with a bunch of little spider robots crawling around in his gears and motors (more graphic than it sounds) and Starscream spewing out what appears to be vomit with every syllable he utters, sometimes right at the camera. There's also some kind of red oil meant to look like blood every time a Con is blasted or ripped apart, though whenever an Autobot is killed or injured, this effect is curiously absent. I would have hated to be one of the viewers at the IMAX 3D showing.

Micheal Bay, we don't need robot slobber, vomit and parasites to make our decepticons look evil. It's just uncomfortable and disgusting, and it clashes with the glorified violence of the movie. Either glamorize the action or show it for the gritty thing violence is, you just can't have it both ways.

This bit of info... wrecked my evening...

I have to laugh at one of the comments on that page, too.

Quote:

I would not worry about Michael Bay directing it but worry about who writes it being that all Bay is doing is directing a script he is given.

Here's the thing: Erin Krueger was the writer for Revenge of the Fallen. Take a minute to remember how LOATHED that movie is by audiences 'round the world. Bay claimed he learned from the mistakes of RotF, but then he went and hired THE SAME GUY for Dark of the Moon. And you just know they're writing this crap together. They're both chortling their butts off with every terrible joke and stuffing every bit of tragic history into the backdrops for movies that couldn't be more unworthy of it.

Though I hope to god they fire the writer and have somebody with somewhat hire standards come on board. That at least would help.

Well, since we're getting a fourth Transformers movie, I'll post the same question that was asked on ign.com. Which Autobot or Decepticon would you like to see in the fourth movie that hasn't been shown yet?

Would love to see another combination Transformer in the next movie...maybe one for the Autobots instead of the Decepticon. Dinobots would be nice but as for a villain...no idea...

http://www.hubworld.com/transformers/shows/prime

It airs saturday nights on The Hub. (channel 179 on Dish Network) It uses the same animation like on Clone Wars, and both Prime and Megatron are voiced respectively by Peter Cullen and Frank Welker. (the original voice of G1 Megatron)

Unicron? I'd like to see Arcee in a much bigger role as she's become my favorite character (next to Prime) from Transformers Prime.

Hmmm. For the life of me, I can't remember that part in ROTF. But, Arcee was twin bots, so you never know. I'm hoping they take a cue from Transformers Prime and include her in the fourth movie. I think having a prominent female Autobot in it would b the right way to go. (I'd even include Arachnid!)

Season 2 has been great so far. Glad to see them even incorporate an Insecticon into the mix.

I would say Unicron but I don't think it would play out well on the big screen for some reason. The Insecticons wouldn't be a bad idea though

It's the kind of thing that one might forget having seen the movie only once, right in the middle of the major action sequence and just kinda there.

But, Arcee was twin bots, so you never know.

I'm fairly sure both of them were shot up. Arcee was the hot pink one, and I distinctly remember her being shot to pieces. If I remember correctly, it was soon after one of those damn twins SURVIVED getting sucked into Devastator.

I suppose a slight case of DEATH won't prevent them from bringing her back in the off-chance they decide to resurrect her. They've already resurrected two characters in one movie. Arcee coming back isn't likely, though. Transformers is usually thought of as a bros-only kind of franchise, despite having a very large female demographic, and this goes double for when Micheal Bay is behind the wheel.

*Sigh* at least there's hope: rumor has it that there will be a theatrically-released movie for the Prime series. Crossing my fingers for that.

Michael Bay gets pissed at Hugo Weaving:

http://filmdrunk.uproxx.com/2012/10/michael-bay-feuds-with-hugo-weaving-over-transformers-diss

Is it just me or does it seem like every time somebody of note says something even remotely negative about the Transformers movies, Bay throws a hissy-fit?

Weaving has been saying some uppity things here lately, and he probably could have worded that a little differently, but jeez; I thought Bay's response was a little childish. I see where the guy's coming from, but Weaving's comments didn't rub me that way at all.

I can't believe they're making another one of these.

It's not you, McCoy. winky

I like a few of the comments the author of the article penned:

Vince Mancini

Michael Bay sure seems to get hurt little feelings any time one of his actors points out that Transformers has all the cultural value of those Olestra chips that made your asshole leak

Vince Mancini

Like that when Michael Bay thinks selfless charity, the first thing that comes to mind is rescuing elephants. Not cancer kids, not battered women or clean drinking water, elephants. “You don’t like it, bro, you can go rescue an elephant!”

Vince Mancini

I guess it's true what they say, if you want a friend in Hollywood, buy yourself a yacht full of Bengal tigers

very funny

Seriously. I didn't really think about the elephant thing until the author pointed it out. It is a good point. When Bay lashes out like that, he does so with all the grace of an angsty teenager starved for attention.

Yeah, I can certainly see Wahlberg as another one of Bay's zany stereotypes. He'll probably be talking like he does in that video the whole way through

There's still going to have to be a lot more news on this before I am even remotely interested in it. So far, the only thing I've heard is Mark Wahlberg's name. While I like him as an actor, it's still hardly enough for me to actually want this to happen.

The comments section makes me laugh. "Unicron better be in it!" "We want Grimlock and the Dinobots!"

Like the appearance of one or two more iconic bots will save these movies. If he focuses less on eye candy and cheesy jokes and more on the Transformers, it might be a little more enjoyable. Oh well; the world continues to spin, I guess.

WOW. Talk about making a bad design choice worse. The fans HATED the flames on Optimus in the previous movies. It's something that just doesn't suit him well. He's an iconic hero and a hardened war general - the shining beacon of hope for all Autobots and the people of Earth. Flames make him look more like a bouncer some biker bar. Not to mention it doesn't really ring true with "robots in disguise" subtlety.

So Bay says "screw the fans," turns around and makes them more obvious?

I never understood the appeal of flames on ANY NORMAL VEHICLE to begin with, but I think even someone who was into that sort of thing would say "dude, seriously, take a step back. That looks ridiculous."

Transformers 4 finally gets its title. Transformers: Age of Extinction.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2013/09/03/transformers-4-title-buzz-chinese-cast-new-car

I know Michael Bay gets a bad rap for these movies, but I've been a Transformers fan since Day 1 thirty years ago, and I'm looking forward to this one.
