This looks beautiful! It' this year's big buzzed about giant creature flick riding the waves of awards and rave reviews. Past years got us critically acclaimed giant monster movies in theaters such as 'The Host', 'Big Man Japan', 'Monsters', and 'Trollhunter'. Luckily though this one got picked up by Fox Searchlight so it's bound to reach more cinemas than it's predecessors did. The tiny star is even receiving some serious Oscar buzz and I hear it's a real tear jerker. The giant creatures look great too! Starts it's limited run in theaters very soon on June 27th. so look for it!!!! Check it at "Undead Backbrain":

Just saw this brilliant and beautiful little film! It's a very touching story and the little girl and her father both give amazing very Oscar-worthy performances. Be prepared as it's a real tear-jerker too. Hopefully they won't be overlooked come Academy Awards voting time. Another really cool thing I loved about this film is that the giant creatures are brought to life via old school costumed live animal fx[a la "Killer Shrews"] and are super-imposed to look gigantic[a la "The Giant Gila Monster"] as they're stomping the town that's created with miniatures[ a la "Godzilla" films]!!

OK, so I figure since I've seen it I should shed some light on the subject since so many are curious about the film and have so many questions. The film is a bit hard to describe. I wouldn't call it a straight-up giant monster movie by any means but there are giant monsters featured in the film that play a big part of the story. So, basically, not as much a giant monster movie as say "Monsters" or "Trollhunter" but probably more of one than "Demeking". In that film the monster wasn't seen until the very end and only very briefly[although when it did appear boy was that somethin' beautiful]. In this film scenes of the giant monsters are scattered throughout building up till the grand finale[and incase you're wondering- no this is not a monster vs. military type of flick]. Yes, it is indeed a critically acclaimed drama about a poor little girl and her father struggling to survive and we'll probably be hearing lots more about it come Oscar time[and hopefully so], though with that being said, I loved it and still highly recommend it and agree that more people should go out and see/support this little gem. The acting is astounding, cast are very likeable and the setting fantastic and represented nicely with cinematograhy that brings to mind "District 9" and "Monsters". I totally loved that the giant creatures are brought to life via oldschool costumed animals like in "The Killer Shrews"[instead of dogs it's pigs] and super-imposed to look gigantic like "The Giant Gila Monster" plus there's even a sequence in which the monsters stampede a town of miniature buildings[like the "Godzilla" films] which looked great. No the fx aren't particularly convincing in every scene but that's part of it's low-budget charm. I'm loving all of these new filmmakers coming on the scene with all of these daring new spins on the old giant monster subgenre like "The Host", "Outlander", "Monsters", "Big Man Japan", and "Trollhunter" plus now we can add this film. So, if I had to sum it up by relating it to other films...I'd say, and this is gonna sound very odd, until you actually see the film then I think you may agree, but I'd call it; "Monsters" meets "Where The Wild Things Are". Yeah, I know, what an odd couple. Here's some images to give ya an idea of the giant monsters:

Something tells me this film will be getting a wider release and a bigger push for Oscar now.: coolbeans
